Brilliant food. I asked the waiter for a recommendation and he suggested the ghost Naga lamb. It was beautiful. Lots of depth of flavour. Highly recommend

I took my 83 year old mother here on Saturday. We got a drink at the bar as we were early. Booked a table for 3 people. They took us to our table with only two chairs and didnt' bring us another chair, I had to get it from another table. We waited 20 minutes nobody came to the table. I got up and asked the bald headed waiter who turned out to be the manager. If someone could come to the table. He said so rudely "You have a drink don't you" no body came, so I asked him again if we could order some food. Again he spoke so rudely and said "if you don't like it LEAVE". If I wasn't with my mother I would have left, but didn't want to spoil it evening for my mum. I will NEVER go here again. The manager should be fired so rude and disrespectful. NOT HAPPY.

🇮🇳 food, very good and deliciously prepared. Very nice atmosphere with appropriate service. Reservations are recommended. We had not made a reservation, but we were lucky. Our own parking space is a big plus

I ordered food for a party of 35 persons, the staff were so helpful, the food was wonderful with so many of our party saying it was the best curry that they’d ever had. Can thoroughly recommend the Dower House if you love a curry and great service in a very clean, very well run restaurant

Our go to restaurant when back in Bawtry. Not disappointed in the welcome, ambience, food and value for money. Last here abt 2 yrs ago. The menu has been freshened up but lots of familiar dishes. Poppadums and pickle tray was crispy and fresh.

We have not been to the Dower House for quite a while due to circumstances, albeit we were regular visitors before. I have to say that the staff made us so welcome on our return, having not seen us for quite some time and it was as if we had never been away. The food and service were amazing and we intend to go back again in the next couple of weeks……..a big thank you to all the staff working at the Dower House, the No1 Indian restaurant in Yorkshire for me !!

Tired decor and basic toilet facilities detract from the silver service and smartly turned out staff. Food was average and not particularly well cooked. I found a small sliver of shinbone in my lamb dish and got a blasé matter of fact response when I pointed it out. Not worth the premium prices for the meals. Won’t be back until it gets a refurbishment.

Ate here with friends who lived locally at the time , around a year ago. The place was heaving and very very hot. We were shown to table quite quickly and our starters arrived fast as well. I’ve eaten in a lot of Indian restaurants over the years in a few different countries. The Bhaji and pakora selection we got was minuscule in the extreme and tasted stale. The mains arrived and frankly, i hate places that serve the chicken cubed. Feels and tastes processed. Also, a medium curry was too hot almost to the point of being inedible (and I do like spicy food) Our friends enjoyed it but we ourselves won’t return now that they have moved away. Felt it was overpriced for the experience as well.

Clean place with polite staff, starters were very good but the mains were very bad, ruined the whole meal. The bill was higher than most Indian restaurants.

What can I say, as always everything was impeccable. From the service through to the fayre, all top drawer. Can’t wait to return again sometime soon!

As a party of 5 who went on Christmas Eve as a family spending over £200 we found that the food was mediocre, the table service was appalling. One man with no hair was particularly rude, grunted when we spoke to him and had little in customer service skills. There are a lot of staff whizzing around and the bar staff were friendly admittedly but given that they brought out the wrong dish, the grumpy man who made us feel uncomfortable, the two round tables pushed together for a party of five that made us feel disjointed and the rice which was not very hot is why we’ve given the review accordingly. We did leave a tip (after all it was Christmas) and we hope this review helps them to improve their service. Such a shame we had the experience we did.

After a lovely reception from Ronnie and Rafi, it was straight to the bar for a bottle ( or two) of Jean Paul rose! We once lived in Bawtry, and after cocktails at the best bar in Bawtry ( The Market Bar) we headed to the Indian institution of Bawtry! As always the consistency of fayre was on point. The staff charming and efficient. Everything good, and as usual no complaints.

I love the curry's 🍛😋 at Dower House! I visited on a Thursday night recently, a small group of 3, around 18:45, there were a few tables available and it filled up towards 8pm. I booked online 💻 and it took 24 hours before they replied. So I'd say if you wanted to make sure you're booked in contact the restaurant and book 📖. You enter through the side door 🚪and arrive at a check in desk, if nobody is there continue through and left onto the bar and they'll seat you from there. A nice pint of kingfisher 🍺 We had a couple of poppadoms each and a pickle tray, it was all really fresh and the lime pickle was easily the best I've had in ages! 💯 I had Chicken Dansak for main, a nice sweet curry 🍛 😋 and some pilau rice and a garlic chapati (not on the menu but they were happy to make it - it was really garlicky 🧄🧄🧄 🤩) It all tasted great 😃 We all had a starter and a main, + 1 garlic naan, 1 rice 🍚 1 chapati - 2 pints 1 pint of coke and we had white coffees ☕ to finish. It came to just over £100 which I felt was reasonable for the quality and service. The place was clean and tidy and the staff were all friendly 💪👍🤩 My photos didn't come out very well, I only managed the starter! Pakora photo, which tasted great. I can't wait to go back again 😍

NIce place to visit and has quite a few free parking bays but there doesn't seem to be any Blue Badge spaces. The inside is tastefully decorated. The the staff are friendly and make you feel welcome, atmosphere was relaxed, the background authentic music was at a level where you could converse with ease. Good menu to chose from with reasonable prices. Our party of 12 was attended to in a timely fashion, the staff appear to be a well oiled chain! People that smoke may find it disapointing that there doesn't seem to be a covered smoking shelter. Wheelchair users would find it challenging to navigate inside. Toilets are on first floor which is OK for the fit and able :-) Everyone in our group enjoyed the food, no compliants.

We ordered for a group of family and friends as a takeaway from these guys-they went out of their way to be helpful and managed me calling and changing and rearranging things a few times - will definitely use them again as the quality was fantastic - everything was well balanced and fresh, and left a “curry savvy” group of folks all singing the praises of both portion sizes , flavour and quality of ingredients. Impressive. It rounded off a great day for everyone. Thank you!!

The Dower house is a favourite of ours , but after receiving a very poor meal as a take out last weekend we are left unsure as to whether we would now return or recommend. The regular dish I ordered lacked taste and was very watery with no consistency, my husbands and daughters dish was equally not the usual standard. After addressing this with the owner and not being encouraged to return in anyway I think a new Indian restaurant will have to be found. As a regular customer I was disappointed with his response !1

Amazed to read some of the negative reviews. We had a takeaway last night. The food was ready 2 mins after we arrived to collect. Probably one the best curries I've had!

Food is reasonably tasty but all that comes with it is not. Our 9pm booking was moved to 8.30 at their request. We arrived 8.32 and sat in the drinks area for 57 mins until our table was ready. Main courses are £2-3 more than they are down south- what the hell? There must be better available elsewhere

We have been to Dower House many times & travel quite a long way just to eat there because we have always really enjoyed our food and experience until our last visit which has put us off for good! When we ordered I asked for mild lamb korma with a boiled egg. I have this every time I go but this time the waiter said " I have never heard of that and I don't believe we have ever made that for you ' I explained that I have it every time I visit but he was adamant and started yelling at me in front of all the other diners saying that he has worked there 19 years and the lamb korma has never been served with an egg before. I asked if he could check with the kitchen if they could hard boil an egg like they normally do for me but it turns out that according to our rude waiter no one in the kitchen can boil an egg. If that is the case they have no place working in a kitchen!!! When our food came out it was not anywhere like the previous standards and my mild lamb korma without the egg was extremely spicy and inedible. My partners meal lacked any flavour and the service from our waiter continued to be offhand and unprofessional. Overall it has put us off ever going back and when there are such other lovely places to eat in Bawtry I suggest give Dower House a miss! Disappointing!!

Just a bit poor. Error on bill charging us for drinks we didn’t have. Service as unbelievably slow. Like order a drink once one has landed. Food ok but I’m in no rush to go back.

It's Sunday night and I'm at a loose end and still trying out the various local restaurants having only moved back into the area recently. The venue was busier than I expected (always a good sign) and I was soon seated. Service was steady (not slow but occasionally things took a little longer than they should) but it was clear they had staff training that evening. Always polite though. My meal was OK. My starter was not amazing but nothing wrong with it either. My main, although tasty seemed lacking in spice. Again, nothing wrong but nothing to set my world on fire. But it wasn't cheap. I have had much better curry for less money in recent months so it just felt slightly over priced especially given the location hence a solid 4 stars. So I may well return and if you are in Bawtry, it's the best curry I have had in the town to date so you won't be disappointed.

My partner and I visited Bawtry last Sunday 28th of August and discovered the Dower House restaurant. We were very fortunate to get a table as it was busy. The service was impeccable and the food was 5 star! My partner loves hot spicy curry but I on the other hand have to have extremely mild curry which a lot of places don't really cater for. I have to say my curry was out of this world!!! It was so delicious and the staff had really paid attention to what we both like. My partner loved his curry to, very spicy just as he likes it! I want to say a HUGE thank you to the team at Dower House. You really looked after us and although we live in Sheffield we will definitely make the trip back to you as this was my favourite curry ever!!!

We ate here on Saturday night . Our rice was appalling and grey in colour and was supposed to be pilau rice . My Chicken Dhansak was so hot I took most of it home and had to add yoghurt to it to cool it down . The waiters appeared disinterested . All in all a disappointing dining experience .

We had a lovely evening meal last week and the food was fresh and authentic. Plenty for me to have as a vegetarian. Naan bread slightly overdone for my husband’s liking. Good selection of drinks too. Will return.

This was my first (and last) visit to the Dower House. I'd been looking forward to it since moving here 2 1/2 years ago but was bitterly disappointed. I informed the water when I ordered that I have an allergy to bell peppers and cannot even have anything that has touched them. When my starter arrived, I fortunately noticed that there were piceces of green pepper in it! I called a waiter over and explained that I had said that I have an allergy. Ahother man (the owner or manager I think) brought me a "replacement" but then said that all of their "gravies" (sauces) are blended with green peppes in them. I have eaten in many Indian restaurants all over the country and have never heard that before. I've also cooked the dishes I like from scratch using authenitc Indian recipes and they haven't had peppers in them. Maybe it's a regional variation, but I've never had a problem as long as I've told them. But to serve someone the very thing that they've told you they are allergic too is a disgrace - and dangerous. They just didn't seem to care! We should have left then, but I agreed to have Chicken Tikka - something I wouldn't normally have as I don't like dry dishes. It seemed like they couldn't wait to get rid of us. Our main course was served and none of the dishes were put on hot trays (unlike the next table) and we weren't offered desserts or coffee. I found the owner/manager quite rude and obnoxious, and I never got an apolgy for what could have been a very serious incident. Funnily enough, when I rang to book the table I said to my friend that I thought they were a bit rude, just saying it's booked and putting the phone down. This man needs to learn to communicate in a much more pleasant manner. My friend said her food was "okay" but I did not enjoy mine - and the mint sauce that came with the poppadums was very runny and horrible.. I will certainly not be returning here, but I'm sure I'll have no problem finding a decent Inaian restaurant that actually makes you feel welcome and caters for a food allergy locally. I;d have given them 0 stars if I could!

First time we’ve been to Dower House. £50 spent and a weekend of food poisoning to follow. Messaged the restaurant when I was well enough to let them know but so far, I have been ignored 🥲

Had chicken Jalfrezi which was tasteless and watery sauce. Chicken tasted dry as well. Not impressed.

1st time at this restaurant, myself and daughter in law went in and order drinks , then my husband and son came in with baby in a pushchair a gentleman who'd been sat at the entrance came in after them and said you cant bring under 5s in here due to steps and the layout of the restaurant, we wasn't aware as we'd not booked it and bare in mind she's only 7 months old. He was very rude and didnt handle the situation very well . He explained there were signs all over stating this . We didn't see any so he brought us a menu that had the littlest writing saying this . We was a party of 7 so in the end they did let us stay . The food and service from the rest of the staff was really good . Not sure if the guy was the manager or the owner . But certainly wont be getting our custom again .

Visited Dower House restaurant on a few occasions. Attentive staff & eager to please. Staff smarty dressed. Restaurant typical Indian decor. Food a little different to usual Indian restaurants. Extensive choice. Well presented & very tasteful. Will definitely return & would highly recommend.

Tastless, chicken korma tastes like mushroom soup

Tuesday night with friends whom we hadn’t seen in over a year could only mean one thing, large table at the local Indian restaurant. As ever they didn’t disappoint . Lovely warm welcome from the owners and his family and staff. Excellent round table with big lazy Susan in the middle. Immaculate surroundings, attentive staff and excellent food. Great value for money both in terms of drinks and food with a top notch service .

The food was terrible. How they can let those poor effort of onion bharji’s to be served, very poor. Didn’t think anyone could go wrong with a korma. Just tasted of pepper. Will not be returning. The staff were rude and seem to not want to be there. Didn’t want to give it one circle

The food was very tasty but the restaurant was let down by surly, inattentive waiters. Perhaps the regular customers are treated in a more friendly manner. We have not been in years and I won’t hurry back.

Ignorant member of staff when asked a question about seating made a comment on what I was wearing set the tone for the rest of the evening food nice but pricey wont be going again .

I haven't been to this restaurant for a long time and that will be the case again!! We had booked for 4 people at 7.30. I got greeted by a rude gentleman who just basically sat us in a waiting corner and left us there. It was 30mins before we got offered a drink and a full 50 mins before taken to a table after I asked what was going on. When being served we noticed the waiter was more friendly with a regular group and was amazed to see them turn up 30mins after us, sit down 10mi s after us and still get their starters before us. All the way through I was on edge as I believed we had done something to offend. It was the first night out with friends where I was still sober inthe taxi on the way home. Strangely as we was finishing the waiter was oddly smiley and pleasant but that soon changed again when he didn't receive a tip for service 🤣 The food was good but over priced. I do not mind paying more when the service is quality but I feel I wouldve had auch better evening in Lancers or over the road at China Rose where the service is always top notch. A completely ruined evening and I will not be returning.

Poor service, Poor quality food... If Ignorance and rudeness is what you want, then go to this establishment.... BUT... Lancers, over the road offers great food (and larger portions)... Plus the service comes with respect and a smile.... The Dower House is a very poor experience... Go elsewhere.

I came here for my 24th birthday with work friends, our waiter was Mo R, he was so lovely! What a genuine polite man, he went above and beyond. I even had a birthday cake with sparklers ✨ Not to mention the food is amazing!...

The food is absolutely perfect and the service even better. All of the staff are so welcoming especially Mo. The price is extremely reasonable.

Best curry house in the region!

Went here last night 31 July 2021 worse Indian we’ve ever had was recommended by a friend we were shown to table in bar are was given food Menu then asked what we would like to drink waited a long time for drinks then nearly half an hour before they took our food order before we were shown to table one of our friends had lamb chops for starter they looked burnt were black and hardly any meat on them I had butterfly Chrips prawn which was hard and tasteless mains were no better my friend had chicken korma she said was tasteless my hubby had lamb chops which were black hardly any meat like our friends starter and I had genghas kan masala supposed to have had some king prawns in it and there wasn’t we won’t be coming here ever again there were plenty of staff but they looked like they couldn’t be bothered to serve us waiting long time for drinks there are much better Indian restaurants than this only came here as it was recommended food horrible and tasteless 😡😡😡
