My wife and I had a sunday lunch today and it was lovely. The beef was great as was the rest of the vegetables.I have marked it down as a yorkie was missing on the trio of meats and a gravy boat should have been included with this lovely lunch. Well worth a visit.

Have stayed here 3 times now, and have always found it clean, reasonably priced and very handily placed for my purposes. The food is 'pub fare' and is very palatable, reasonably priced, and along with a good selection of beers.

Stayed for a couple of nights and enjoyed it but the noise in the early hours was horrendous. Would come again but request a room at the back. The room was very spacious but a little dated. Tea and coffee, complimentary water. The staff very welcoming, lovely bar with nice menu. Tasty food. Good location with free parking for guests. Will stay again but ask for a room at the back

Tried this pub as it had some good reviews so we tried the Sunday Lunch. Whilst the staff were most pleasant, polite and attentive, regrettably the standard of food was terrible. Our lunch arrived at the table luke warm. The plates the food was served on were cold which did not help matters. The waiter quickly took our plates away and returned with warmer meals but not piping hot. The stuffing was missing from my turkey and the crackling was missing from the pork. They were both on the original meals served. I know the restaurant was busy but this is no excuse. All meals should be served hot and as advertised. Will not be eating here again - very disappointing.

Shocking. We paid for room only for a quiet relaxed recovery weekend. Took us 28 minutes to be acknowledged at the bar to check in as the only member of staff was busy talking and serving someone else. We got the Lambton Room. Hotels alway have toiletries in the bathroom, not this one. Apparently they haven't had any delivered for months. Why isn't this mentioned at the time of booking? The Bar staff told us to lean across out of the shower to get hand soap from the soap dispenser by the sink to use as shower gel, shampoo and conditioner. Would need extra long arms to reach from the bath and very thick skin to withstand the hardness of hand soap. Bathroom was gruby and dirty. Hairs in the bath and on the floor, soap stains all over the floor, filthy radiator and skirting boards. Now the bedroom. The bed mattress was filthy. I always pull back sheets to check. The headboard was thick with dust, probably accumulated over a year or more. The windows were too dirty to see out of. They don't do vegetarian breakfast so we had to go elsewhere. Scratches up the door and on the wall above the headboard. And to top it all my recovery from surgery abd being in hospital was cut short on the first night when we discovered our room was directly over the stage where a rock band were performing until 11pm. We just couldn't sleep through the constant thumping. Pointless talking to the staff. They just wasn't interested.

Decided to pop into the Lambton with my two grandchildren for lunch. Unfortunately my first option was unavailable but the chef made a suggestion with another fish dish. This meal was lovely, food hot, service fantastic. Well looked after, warm friendly environment, the girls really enjoyed it, felt comfortable. It felt like it was all around ensuring we had a lovely experience. Big thank you to Vicki who looked after the girls ensuring they had activity sheets etc. Huge thank you to Sam and Ian - for looking after us. It may not be the most ext. The first room they put us in called the cuthbert smelt like it had a raw sewage leak in the bathroom, we were moved to another room without any problems. Not the best first impression however not the staffs fault, who by the way were all lovely and welcoming. With it being our 11th wedding anniversary we went to a meal with family and returned to the hotel at maybe 2/3am. We tried to sleep but both found the bed massively uncomfortable, we felt like we were tilted backwards, as it was early hours there wasn’t a lot we could do. My husband is a veteran who has a injured back from his service in the army so when we discovered the actual issue with the bed in the morning I was absolutely livid. The divan base was broken and someone has used a ironing board to try and fix it. When we told the staff downstairs they were aware of it? They stated management were also aware. It’s totally unacceptable and regardless of price a comfortable bed in a hotel should be a priority, a broken one is just disgraceful and dangerous.sleeping with metal underneath your neck and back. I’ve contacted the management via email but received a generic response with no name saying they will look into it, however we have heard nothing.

wow, what can i say? we had our wedding reception and evening do in the function room and were not disappointed, everything down to the smallest detail was perfect, there was tea, coffee and hot chocolate in our room (the Lambton) with plenty of biscuits to munch on, the bed was comfortable and the linen was immaculate, the team had put two extra beds in for us as we stayed the night before our wedding with the kids and those bed were great, comfortable and again immaculate linen. There was plenty if towels in the room and soaps and shower/bath gel which had a lovely smell to it. The function room itself was well presented with a great choice of drinks at the bar, the tables looked beautiful with clean linen and personalised table runners, the chairs looked lovely with the seat covers and personalised sashes on. the dance floor was just the right size and the music was great especially the golden oldies (country roads) and new music as well as the cheesy pop music you have to have at a disco like the YMCA! we asked for requests too which the DJ happily obliged. the staff especially Neil, Lisa, Alex and Josh did everything they could and more for us and our guests they were smiling and very welcoming to all the guests, they made great attention to detail in the things we had asked for and enjoyed having fun with all the children aging from 18 months to 10 years 2 of which are autistic and they made the time for them which is greatly appreciated when you have a child with autism because then they are not singled out or treated any differently. The facilities of the toilets and baby change area were so clean and were easily accessible for the guests as well as the disabled toilet. The pub itself has great facilities including a pool table, bandit machines and outdoor seating areas which are nicely decorated and comfortable to relax in. The general décor of the place is wonderful and so welcoming, there are plenty of places to sit including booth areas, high stools and sofas/arm chairs, they also have high chairs available and a lovely children's menu with a colouring activity sheet for them to do whilst they are waiting for food. The morning after our wedding we had breakfast which was tailor made to what we liked and was a lovely portion to set us up for the day. would highly recommend to anyone wanting to have a function or even just a meal in a warm and friendly atmosphere.

Had a good couple of nights stay here at the Lambton Arms. Was feeling slightly sceptical before arriving as it was so cheap (especially in comparison to other places during the Queens Jubilee bank holiday weekend and school half term!) but turns out it was really good value for money. Managed to park the car in the small rear car park - parking free if staying...you just need to get a ticket when you check in to display. Not sure where we would have gone if there were no spaces. Check in is at the bar. A sign saying so would have been useful but the check in process itself was quick and friendly. Was expecting a small twin room but actually had a really spacious room on the top floor with double bed (or maybe twin beds pushed together) and a sofa bed so was more than happy with that. Bedroom was clean and comfortable. Decent bathroom. Definitely a little tired but nothing wrong with it at all. It was on the top floor and there's no lift so anyone with accessibility issues may need to consider for their own stay. There was some street noise at night but hey...it was a weekend night! Again, families with young children may want to consider but it didn't disturb our sleep! We had tea in the bar area the first night. There was a fab singer on and the food was really nice. Service was good. We had breakfast the following morning but to be honest...was a little disappointed with it but not enough to raise any complaints...we just went somewhere else the second morning. We had a wander to the Riverside Park on our first morning which is well worth a trip. 10 minutes walk away with a cafe, good play park, splash park and riverside walk. Nice to get a bit of fresh air. The main purpose of our stay was to attend a concert at the Stadium of Light and in lieu of the fact we couldn't find anywhere closer at a good price (or that wasn't already fully booked), was more than happy with the Lambton Arms.

Stayed two nights in the hotel when we arrived was greeted by manager who was professional and friendly that's where the good points stop was told we was at top of hotel which was three flights of stairs as we got higher the smell got worse passing half painted walls and the stained carpets dust everywhere passing locals that clearly rent rooms out there . When we got to room the smell was overwhelming we had to spray a whole can of deodorant to dull the smell !!! The room was so so old fashioned like nor this century walls marks and dirt all over bed covers dirty bathroom was so so smelly sick inducing not joking we tried to open window to get some air in the room which opened a tiny bit . Kettle we couldn't use as was very dirty !! This place is very cheap but you still expect some kind of standard which was missing can't believe anyone would think different from us we never expected a Palace but come on at least try . Never ever will return would of been better of sleeping in a park . Stay away even if you think it's cheap.

Stayed at the Lambton Arms Hotel for one night 17th June 2021 as I was attending the Durham vs Lancashire T20 cricket match that night. FYI the Riverside Cricket Ground is a pleasant 15/20 minutes walk away through Riverside Park. The double room was of a good size. Plenty of room had there been two people staying there. However, I was a solo traveller so plenty big enough for one person. The room was clean (apart from one issue - see below) as indeed was the large bathroom. Complimentary tea, coffee and bottled water in the room, so very good value for money. I was in room 12 which is at the top of the stairs so going up and down these stairs certainly keeps you fit!The staff at the Lambton Arms were excellent and very friendly and I was certainly looked after.I did have one issue with my room, which was outside of the Lambton Arms control to be fair, however they did a wonderful job in rectifying the situation, It was a hot day on the 17th and after cleaning my room, the staff had (quite rightly) left my window open to let in some fresh air. Unfortunately while the clean room was empty a bird (most likely a pigeon) had flown into the room and left bird droppings on the floor, table and bed. So I wandered down stairs to point this out to the staff, who came back to the room with me to see it with their own eyes. The lady (sorry - didn't get her name) was very apologetic and promised to re-clean the room for me. This was done while I was out and I came back to a super clean room with window closed! Not fully closed so cool fresh air was still allowed into the room, but closed enough to not allow in any uninvited guests. Funnily enough while I was in the room a pigeon landed on the window ledge but there was no way into my room this time.As mentioned, the staff did a great job in cleaning the room again for me, and I was offered a free drink and free breakfast by way of an apology. This was gratefully accepted. The breakfast was great by the way. As was the beer - not drunk at breakfast time I hasten to add.So overall a great stay, very good room in a good location, and best of all the staff were friendly and very helpful. Excellent value for money. Will definitely be back next summer.

The menu in the restaurant caters for all tastes and the breakfasts are excellent value. The staff are all very polite and happy to help especially Lisa, the waitress that looked after us during our 2 day stay. I am absolutely gob smacked. We have all been barred from the Lambton Arms hotel pub Chester Le street because the children had a temper tantrum ( which is a normal occurrence for a 2 year old may I add). Not to mention we go once a week and spend about £100. They didn’t even have the decency to talk to us in person and went through a 3rd person. Customer service at its finest- what a disgrace!! I would have understood for the two youngest but not for children that weren’t even there. You say your a family pub yet you have barred 3 families from your pub who have been comming for 10 years on weekly basis for lunch! I am so shocked.

My wife and i called into this ph to have a sandwich and chips on a Saturday lunchtime. The ph was very busy as the football was on (sunderland) with very few tables available. We found a table in the corner and checked the menu and ordered two sandwiches, homemade chips and homemade onion rings. The food is ordered at the bar and arrived approx 25 mins later and looked very nice.It tasted very nice with the chips a real hit and the onion rings great too.The only let down was the steak in the steak and mushroom sandwich being a little tough/large. The addition of a steak knife may have alleviated the toughness by cutting it into smaller pieces.Overall we shall return as the stottie/panninis were both fresh and tasty and homemade chips/onion rings were excellent.

We had our family Christmas meal at the Lambton Arms in mid-December, 2015. My sister made the booking and we paid our deposits in advance with the balances paid in full 2 weeks prior to the day of our party. Some of us went for the traditional turkey meal but I opted for steak and chips for a change. The meat was tough and hard to chew although the chunky chips were nice. The service was slow. Unfortunately, two In our party could not join us on the day as they were ill. She asked if they could have a partial refund, excluding the costs for the their deposits. The response was that they didn’t give refunds but offered to ‘plate up 2 meals’ to take away. This wasn’t suitable as the couple were ill, lived 15 miles away and it was snowing very heavily outside. My sister then asked if they could offer vouchers as credit towards 2 meals for another time. They replied to say that they didn’t give out vouchers. She subsequently wrote to John Weir, Managing Director, Wear Inns, Castle Eden who owns the Lambton Arms and received a reply from his son Scott saying that they didn’t give full refunds. She responded to say that she didn’t ask for a full refund only the money for the two who couldn’t attend, excluding the money for their deposits. She has never received any further response to date. Hence, it’s a two star rating only from me for the chunky chips. A one star rating for the customer / after care. Hence, if you are thinking of going here for Christmas you may wish to consider somewhere else.

My husband and I went on spec for Sunday lunch... Lots of meat choices and also portion size choices... Recommend the extra large... Many yorkshires, plenty of meet and beautifully cooked veg... Reasonable prices... Definitely recommend a visit!

Very tasty meals at very good prices, good service and a pleasant place to relax and enjoy, my relative enjoys a trip down town for lunch and this is one of her favourites.

Great quality burger! The bun, bacon and egg were all top notch. The beer is canny and the staff are also canny too! Merry Christmas!

Arrived for lunch and were not disappointed. Excellent pub grub and service at NE prices. Big plate of fresh fish and chips was £5. Massive bar so lots of space to sit and watch the world go by. Parking at the rear. Good choice on the menu.

Two lunches and two pepsis for £18. I wasn't expecting gourmet food or great portions but I hold my hands up, I was wrong! The food was huge! All real home made food! A large oval plate full of meat, mash, roasties, stuffing and three huge Yorkies and then a separate plate of veg! Amazing! I'm a big eater and could hardly manage half of it! We had a lovely visit and sat and had a few hot drinks after while we waited for our train home! These were also a great price at just £1.75!

I visited while I was out with friends, the food is mediocre at best, takes an age to be served for anything. The staff try their best whilst being barked at by an angry red faced blonde woman, that isn't dressed to be in charge. It's no wonder the staff aren't customer focused if she is the manager. Good luck to the staff and any visitors!

Clean pub, lovely quality food, fair sized portions, new menu so staff didn't have a clue when we ordered, took a while but worth the wait and that.

Good portions of food and a good price :) very filling and very clean. Nice to see a place in Chester le street with cleaners who actually know how to use a duster and not just a push along hoover. Food was very well cooked so won't be the last time we go and leave with full bellies.

We had my works Xmas party at lumley castle to go to and being cheap didn't want to pay the £200 a night they asked for a room so looked nearby and found the lambton arms on late rooms. I hit on and paid £40 for the night and got what is labeled a "superior room". The room is advertised with jacuzzi bath and 4 poster bed. The jacuzzi bath was there and worked fine however the bottom two posts of the bed had been removed/detached not sure why?The room was clean and tidy but very dark due to only having lamps and no overhead lights again not an issue until the next morning when you notice the wallpaper has damp and was coming away in some places. For £40 and a place to put my head down for the night I was happy enough it was cheap and clean. Had I paid any more than this I would have complained about the issues but if your in need of somewhere to get your head down and you can get it for the same price go for it if it's more expensive than this I wouldn't bother.

Breakfast baps are yummy especially with the extras you can have in them like black pudding and fried eggs. Very good farmhouse breakfast. Very good value and tasty. Good coffee. Use their car park and get your pound back off your meal. Very good service, friendly staff

I visited this pub restaurant with friends after a funeral in the town. Two of us ordered steak baguette. This came with a small (well, tiny) salad and (under cooked) chips. My friend's sandwich was OK, so she said. I must have drawn the short straw because mine had more gristle than meat and most of it was left on the plate.I complained about this to the girl behind the bar. She asked if I would like to see the manager. After hanging around for a while, no-one came, so I went back to the bar, at which point, the girl said the manager was not available. She asked me to write down my name and phone number and said the manager would ring me that afternoon. Needless to say, no-one phoned.I would have thought that, in the absence of the manager, someone would have been delegated to deal with complaints. In addition, is it not normal for someone to come and ask if the food is OK? But no-one did. Oh, and one more thing - I wanted to pay by card, but I was told that their machine wasn't working. The food was poor, the service was shoddy, the promised phone call never came. Not to be recommended!

I have been several times for food, lunch and dinner and the quality is always very good. Excellent value for money. I have had sweet chilli chicken flatbreads, fish and chips, chicken burgers and quite a few desserts and they always surpass my expectations. Also drinks not too badly priced. Always have a good time, always enjoy my food, first place I think of going to after work for food or drink. Please give this place a go, I love it!

Staying in the local area for a few days, we wanted a reasonably priced breakfast. The Lambton Arms Hotel fit the bill, after talking to a local up the main road in Chester-Le-Street, who recommended this we were not disappointed. From the outside you would think it might be a bit pricey, but it wasn't. For under £5.00 per person we got a full English breakfast with drink. The place was Huge, Spotless clean and the staff really friendly.

Had breakfast here on Sunday, after having rang the day before to check what time they stopped serving, as there is no information either in the pub itself or on the web site, & was informed 11.00, only to hear the gentleman behind the bar inform is colleague at around 10.30 that he was stopping breakfast orders so they could get Sunday lunch started, & a couple were refused service, not very good! The breakfast itself was OK, but we ordered toast & when it came it was the most anaemic looking toast I've ever seen! I'll be telling them I don't want singed bread next time, I want toast.

This used to be the best hostelry in Chester-le-Street but now it is so similar to all of the rest. Serves food all day but the menu is limited.

Had the rump steak. Asked for medium. When the steak can out it was still mooing and from the look of it, it must have ate my chips. Had 13 greasy chips, rock hard peas and half a grilled tomato. Was asked if my half eating dinner was ok, said no it was bloody disgusting. After 10 minutes was offered a free drink. Was offered no refund As I had to pay for my meal before I ate it. Would never eat there again

We have eaten here a few times since my last review & the menu has changed slightly. The "small dumplings" have been removed. I've had the gammon on 2 occasions & have had no complaints & I see also they have amended the dessert menu not to include the ice cream in the 2 for £5.50, mind you the prices have increased & I'm not sure why the pancakes are excluded from this offer when they are the same price as everything else that is?

This pub is ok when they actually have food on they advertise a carvery till 8 we turned up at 5.30 it was our 35 wedding anniversary and we wanted to go out for a special dinner we were going to have all three courses and a few drinks only to be told they didn’t have any carvery left really bad management to run out of food two and a half hours before closing we ended off coming home and our special meal was beans on toast it’s a ok pub for a quick meal but don’t go there for any special occasion they will just let you down

Ordered BBQ chicken loaded fries and was served frozen chips not fries with frozen strips of chicken covered with cheese and a squirt of BBQ sauce. Husband had pie of the day, said the pie was nice but the gravy was lumpy and too thick won’t be going back there again

Discussed pint Guinness gone upto £5.90 a pint, said to staff, cost gone down and owner has put up Guinnes to a very high price, even the staff agreed really hike up price, they too thought it was pure greed. Will not use this pub again.

Visited first time after lock down (I believe it’s opened under new management) on a Saturday afternoon. Booked a table for food and glad we did as it was very busy. The service was slow but this was mentioned on our arrival as they were under staffed and didn’t predict how busy it would be. However, the atmosphere was fab (lively, sport on the TV and a range of music was been played) and at the time we hardly noticed the wait between drinks and food! We ordered three different meals (Yorkshire Pudding, Cheeseburger and chicken and cheese baguette) portions were huge (for £6.95 each) and delicious. Lager and cider were reasonably prices too. Hopefully the place gets a well needed refurb under new management as it is the only negative - but I appreciate the pub has just recently reopened and Rome wasn’t built in a day! We’ll definitely be back.
