After walking my dog I love the fact that if the weather is bad we can still go inside for something to eat or drink .The staff are all fabulous and helpful. but Diane always has a lovely warm, friendly welcome and always goes above and beyond to make you feel at “ home”. She is knowledgeable on the menu and drinks and makes the best Hot Chocolate. She is an asset to the pub and Ember Inns.

Excellent service nothing was to much trouble. A big shout out to Neil for going over and above to make sure my food was good as I have an allergy. 5 star service Thankyou

I was looking for a place in Durham to have an early dinner - the Duke of Wellington was chosen and I can honestly say it was a very good choice! To begin from, no problem with a parking space. Quite spacious interior, which has retained the character of a typical British pub. Variety of good draft beers at the counter. The list of dishes on the menu is not very long, but there is certainly something for everyone, and we did not have to wait too long for the dishes to be served. I am sure I will visit the place again, if I am in Durham.

Fantastic night out. Great food. Good beer, Great value for money. Very enjoyable quiz. Great, friendly staff. Altogether a good night. Will be back.

Pre booked meal for 6 at Duke of Wellington Durham, and the atmosphere and food were excellent. The staff are friendly and efficient even though there was a trainee who, with support from colleagues, delivered the same excellent service and to top it all there was a very competitive quiz which most of the pub part took of. Will visit again soon.

How far would we travel for an Ember Inn? We know it's worth it! Understand Ember Inns have c150 UK venues & we've got 3 within easy travelling distance to us and I know if we're away we'll certainly look up where the nearest ones are because they're excellent. Not only do they have a wide choice menu you get excellent meals at a fair price. We had fish dish, pie and lasagne and all were really good....beautifully cooked. We're also lucky in that our locals have good clean décor, nice staff and great service.. Cant fault them and feel really satisfied afterwards. Thank you.

The atmosphere is lovely and the staff are really friendly and efficient but its the food. I had the fishcakes which I had had previously on my last visit,they were delicious This time they were not nice at all. The coating was chewey and had a burnt aftertaste which made them hard to cut up. The fishcakes were one of the more expensive meals. It was my second visit and seems like the standards are slipping already and the food is not consistent...Shame.

I recently dined at The Duke of Wellington and had a wonderful experience. The pub's charming and cozy atmosphere made it an ideal setting for a relaxed evening. I opted for the beef & red wine lasagne which were cooked to perfection. The service was excellent, with friendly and attentive staff ensuring a pleasant meal. The Duke of Wellington is a great spot for a satisfying pub dinner. Highly recommended!

I recently visited the Duke of Wellington with my two young kids and had a fantastic experience. The food was really good, and the two-course meal cost us £50, which was reasonable for the quality. The staff were amazing—very friendly and accommodating, making us feel welcome. The food arrived in a timely manner, which is always a plus when dining with little ones.

Spent a few dsys with my brother in Bearpark... visited the DUKE om 2 occasions for lunch and dinner. Cant praise the food enough...1st class.. We were served by DIANE on both occasions,cant fault her service it was beyond excellent..Nothing was to much bother to her ...5star staff service. Will be back at some stage,looking forward to Diane's service again

Love this pub. Always clean and welcoming. New menu has been launched and the food is always delicious. The tandoori chicken skewers were delicious. Decided on a dessert Eton mess sundae was well presented and looked and tasted amazing. Friendly clean pub with a massive choice of delicious food

Absolutely lovely warm friendly welcome from Diane, as always. I always love coming here because I feel like part of the Duke family. Diane always goes above and beyond. She is so knowledgeable about the menu and I often ask her advice. She now knows my likes and dislikes and always makes me aware if something new is available that she thinks I will like. She is extremely professional, thoughtful and courteous. I’ve noticed how flexible she is and covers all rolls. She is a great Team player and helps and encourages new members of staff. Diane is an absolute star. She is a credit not only to the Duke but the Company .

I have just had a beautiful lunch at the Duke of Wellington. The chicken, bacon and avocado wrap is truly delicious and has an exceptional filling on top of flat bread. We were served by Diane and she is so professional and knowledgeable. My grandson is gluten free, she knew exactly what he could have to eat. Thank you Diane and the rest of the team for making a wonderful lunchtime experience.

Back at the Duke again for lunch to try something from the new season menu. The Hunters chicken schnitzel was delicious . We were served by Diane , who was great, very knowledgeable about the menu . She was polite and friendly too.

£31.50 for this delivered. Really though. U trying to tell me that's what u get for ssme price in pub. Disgraceful

Food was just OK, service by inexperienced youngsters.

The meals were delicious, however the prices for drinks, even soft drinks were way overboard and just too expensive, was able to buy 3 cans of alcohol drinks for the price of one Fanta.

My first visit to the Duke of Welly in about 30 years. It used to be a 'go to' for Sunday lunch and food at other times. How is it possible to do an awful 'Scampi and Chips'? Well, if you start with that cheap scampi (is really even true scampi?) that is formed and looks more like food pellets you'd serve to farm animals, then that's a good start. Add chips that were similarly uniform but neither skinny fries nor chunky, you're nearly there. Shrivelled peas and a chunk of lemon later and the job is complete. Not cheap either. Yes, decent scampi, an attempt at chips that are not a reminder of the 1970's would cost a few pennies more and would erode the somewhat excessive profit margin you are making on this. I'm sure the staff, who were very nice, have no/very little say in this matter. Ember Inns.....not good enough. I'm not a food snob by any measure but this was sub-Wetherspoons fare.

Lovely space in a great position. Was just passing and had fond mmorues from years ago so dropped in. Quite quirky and welcoming but looking a little shabby to what I remember. Kind of place where the other customers look at you bcos they know you're not local. Was a very ignorant customer who obv knew the bar person and got served before us, despite him arriving at the bar after us. Yokel locals alright.

The food was lovely , the staff were very attentive and nothing was any trouble , the service was quick and the overall atmosphere was lovely , we celebrated our daughters 40th birthday, with 14 members of family, it was a very enjoyable night , the only slight thing that we would of liked to all be on one table but it was explained to us that because of where it was situated, near fire exit it had to be two separate tables, but we would all return again

Very nice place to eat i like fish and chips but it must be cod or im not interested. Call be old fashioned or boring even .but if im the one eating it im the one paying for it.

We took advantage of the offer for 33% off the total bill to have lunch. Excellent service as usual from Diane and the food was delicious (I especially love the chicken tikka curry!). Kerri ensured that our daughter was fed quickly as she had to return to work. Thanks again for the warm welcome, appetising food and excellent service.

Table was not ready when we arrived on time. Had not been cleared or cleaned before we arrived. I wouldnt normally mind but when you have booked and paid a deposit you expect the Table to be ready on time. Food was great. The rib of beef sunday roasts are lovely

Random pit stop on our way home. Very friendly and helpful staff. Good menu with lots of choice. And very reasonable prices. Ordered two mixed grills and they were gorgeous! Really well cooked succulant meats, with the char marks that add even more flavour. Very generous portion. Enjoyed very much.

Been meaning to give this venue a try for a while now and went there today for the first time, what a hidden gem 💎. Well rounded menu's with a decent amount of choices all at reasonable prices. The long haired Colonel went for the half a roasted chicken 🐔 with barbecue sauce (other sauces are available, myself I went for the mixed grill food arrived at the table relatively quickly and both meals were really good wife scoffed hers like she hadn't been fed for a couple of days 😋, the mixed grill was really good proper chicken breast cooked well on a open flame grill 2 really good quality sausages Gammon really good and the rare steak cooked to perfection (it's hard to find a decent chef 👩‍🍳 that knows how to cook a decent RARE steak) chips mushroom and peas 🫛 were nicely accompanied by onion rings. The steak was excellent and of great quality well matured and no gristle. I would thoroughly recommend this restaurant, service at the bar was also polite and welcoming.

Great place to sit and get some work done in an evening with a drink and some snacks. Staff are friendly, and the atmosphere is great.

The service and staff were lovely. My son enjoyed his burger. However I was sorely disappointed with the Haddock and chips. The Haddock was on the small side. The mushy peas were almost non existent and I didn't eat the chips.

Booked for 4pm on Sunday. The roast was all sold out by the time we arrived (4pm). They don’t do any other set meal courses for Sunday, even if the roast is out. So it makes the prices not worth the standard of food really. We got salt and pepper calamari. The salt was just poured on, you couldn’t eat it there was that much. Buffalo wings were nice. Southern fried burger was okay but the chips were big standard and on the bad side. Kids meal was decent. They have lovely log burners and the staff are okay. It’s dog friendly.

We visit here fairly regularly and really like the staff and atmosphere. You see the same faces most of the time and they recognise regular custom. The menu could change more frequently or more specials and that would make it slightly better from the food perspective but the meals I do have- I enjoy- usually opting for the haddock which is great. Keep up the great work!

This is our second visit and it definitely was different from our first, we ordered from the 3 course set menu between 12-5pm Starter was amazing garlic bread and beer battered mushrooms. the main in my honest opinion was absolutely gross. Ham egg and chips, let's just say it was so bad we had to exchange both our mains (we both had ham egg and chips. The ham wasn't ham at all it was boiled gammon with un rendered fat on (Raw), the meat itself was drowning in some sort of fatty like liquid (never had wet ham before) the smell of the ham was off almost like a few days old (no marbling) but almost like they got too much out the day before and that's what we ended up having. The ham was so wet the chips were soaked in this liquid. However I did complain and requested 2 new dishes in replace of them and we went for Sausage and mash (honestly amazing) going forward I will get this. But the way the ham was has actually made me go off ham in the future. Desert was nice Belgian waffles only downside is squirty cream not fresh cream, I'm sure this is due to wastage and costs.

Came here on spec, no problem getting a table, service was quick food was very tasty. Had the Sunday lunch with pudding. Will visit again soon

Very poor & disappointed in service & food. We reserved a table for 7 prior & waited over 5 minutes at the bar as staff were serving other people, fair enough but a slight acknowledgment or a “we’ll be with you in a minute” would of been nice as one member of staff was actually standing right in front of us doing a hand pull pint, ignoring anyone’s existence. 7 people, 1 starter, 7 mains,5 desserts. I had a rump steak, it had a lot of gristle, most of the steak was left, poor frozen chips, garden peas, tomato and mushroom (very limp), the onion rings were really nice and the peppercorn sauce tasty without being over the top. 2 people had the slow roast beef rib and it looked beautiful, and slid off the bone, the roasted root vegetables with this looked lovely and were tasty. Very short on the gravy tho, it was served with an accompanying small gravy boat, however this had only been filled to approx a third full. Aasked the waiter for another bottle of wine as he brought a coffee out & his reply was “youll have to go to the bar, ive got to bring your desserts out” fair enough, but could of been said slightly nicer. i went to the bar, again a long wait, three lovely more mature ladies followed me but managed to get served before myself and a gentleman who had been there before me. He actually spoke up (very politely) & said he had been waiting so long and the member staff just said he woukd be next, & failed to acknowledged this comment and continued, when the ladies walked away she said i did not know they were gonna order separately( this is irrelevant, they should of have been served in turn. I returned to our table with the bottle if wine after about 10-12 minutes, having missed all the desserts & alot of the conversation Overall a poor experience, the place definitely needs more staff at busier times we were booked at 6pm on a Saturday night & some training in customer care

This is an amazing place so relaxing and always a warm welcome from all staff members, special mentions to Dan and Matt who are always smiling and interacting with costumers, place is clean and the food is great overall love going in and relaxing by the fire place. Have been to DoW a few times now and always happy with the atmosphere and food quality. Good for a meal and catch up with mates without it being loud (though quiz nights are a laugh) - the regulars are pleasant and staff are lovely and approachable.

The DoW is a brilliant eatery and local. The staff are top notch. The meals are good and excellent value for money. They serve a choice of real ales, The quiz on Thursday is a legend.

Martin and Kerri are awesome! Great breakfast and really friendly service!

I am a regular at the Duke and when you visit it's like going home for the day. The team have a laugh with you and aren't scared to have banter. It's a great locals pub and it has massively improved in the last few years since management changed. No longer feels like a massive restaurant/pub divide. Really doing a great job, well done!

Came for food with a work friend, good came quickly and was cooked to perfection. Steak was mouthwatering and the slow cooked rib was devine. Very helpful Martin as the staff member. Also the other two servers Keri and Alice very helpful. Top marks to the chefs Ben, Emma and Ryan for top quality food. Shame I forgot to use my discount voucher. At the Duke of Wellington again for lunch with my husband . We both had Hunters chicken to eat , lovely hot and really tasty, just what was needed as it was such a cold day outside . We sat at a table near to one of the fires which was so cosy. We both enjoyed a large cappuccino too. We were served by Diane, she was as usual very friendly and attentive making sure that everything was OK for us. It's so nice having somebody who gives such good customer experiences on a regular basis.

Food was inedible, told the girl who collected the plate with the food still on said she'd let the kitchen know, no apology, etc full steak sent back as unable to cut through never mind eat £13 I'll never see again but I'll not be seeing that place again also it was a cold place coats needed, gone downhill was never great but 'it will do' certainly won't be back

The chicken tikka was great, and the atmosphere was perfect just to chill and have a good time. It wasn’t too loud and it wasn’t quiet enough that it felt empty. The staff and people all were soo kind,

We took a team trip for curry night and were treated to excellent service, stellar food and a pleasantly cheap night. Service was speedy, the curry night was great value for money. Madi and Martin made for a great time.

The pub was busy but even though we only wanted drinks before returning home, we had first class service from Diane, Martin, Kerri and Dan. We are regulars, but always receive the warm welcome that the character Norm did in the sitcom “Cheers”. Our home from home. Superb staff, superb customer service despite all the stress they work under.

Had a lovely meal tonight, however the glazed potato starter was boiled potatoes, asked a member of staff and they said it was a menu error, didn’t reflect the price for boiled potatoes, however everything else was great !!!

We always have a great experience at the Duke of Wellington. The team are always friendly and are very accommodating to our little boy. They take the time to talk to him and even had a chat about his favourite thing. (Mario😂) Food is always nice and well priced.

I bought the chicken and ham dinner. The chicken was amazing but the rest of the meal was horrible. I.m hoping this was a one off as £35 for 2 drinks and 2 meals definitely was not worth the money.

Sunday lunch. Very nice pub. Rather disappointing lunch tbh. The roast potatoes were I think the frozen ones. They were very dry. Not home made. It was ok. Very edible but not something you'd go back for. Staff very nice. To be fair other food on the menu might be great but Sunday lunch very mediocre.

Pre booked a table for 8 and was very dissapointing placed near the door so cold just like the vegetables on my plate , Christmas dinner with no gravey or cranberry sauce , then charged as extras when we asked , will not be visiting...

Friendly staff and reasonably priced drinks. The pub menu has too many fried foods. The walk in entrance was super- big tree and lights and well presented bar. The rear seating are near the slot machine and tv is not as pleasant and rather intimidating....

Had no food but nice place hadn't been there for ages

It was busy but the layout and decor made it feel like a light and airy place. Didnt feel crowded even with the large number of customers present. Food was excellent quality and even with 11 of us for an Xmas work meal all of the courses came out at the same time. The staff were helpful and accommodating even to the point of helping us take a photo of all of us, and there was still a lot of serving going on. No complaints from anyone in our party as we were all too busy complimenting the experience. Would definitely recommend.
