Great pub with lovely food and a great selection of drinks. We were served by Paul who was really friendly and made the experience that much better!

Food was great and so was the atmosphere. I always try and find an Ember Inns on my travels and I would certainly recommend this one. Keep up the good work.

Lovely cosy pub and tasty food! Great atmosphere. Our party was well looked after, and my steak was deliciously cooked to perfection! There were a great selection of drinks including wines, gin and whiskey. I will certainly be recommending this pub. Thank you.

Neil and staff are always friendly and helpful and the choice of drinks is quite extensive backed up by a wide and varied menu.

Steak sandwich was tough. Ignored at bar whilst asking where our food was 40 minutes after ordering.

Llegué para un brunch de fin de semana ya que no habíamos comido aquí por un tiempo - quedé impresionado con las nuevas opciones de menú, así que decidí probar el desayuno brioche - y wow que era encantador! Personal amable y buen servicio sumado a la gran experiencia, sin duda recomendaremos este lugar a otros amigos y familiares.

Food was good enough. Probably wouldn’t rush back. Staff were friendly and efficient though and service was quick.

Decent beer selection and good food for a chain. Would recommend booking for su day lunch although we were lucky. Beef rib roast was particularly good.

Service is amazing, decided to order 2 drinks to save going back to bar while eating, waiter said to let him know when ready for 2nd drink and brought to table so it was freshly poured. Food was delicious, cooked to perfection and service was quick. Lovely atmosphere in pub too.

We visited 3 times over a weekend while staying near Durham, and on each occasion the staff were excellent. Found us a table the first night because they were full, but managed to fit us in. The food was great, the service was great. Very friendly with a great atmosphere. Well done Kirsten and all the team.

Called in for Sunday lunch but did not serve chicken off the bone and my fiancee doesn't like bones so can't comment on the food.

Had a great meal recently with friends. I had tandoori chicken skewers and it was fabulous. Chicken was so moist and tasty. Accompaniments so tasty. Would definitely recommend

After walking my dog I love the fact that if the weather is bad we can still go inside for something to eat or drink .The staff are all fabulous and helpful. but Diane always has a lovely warm, friendly welcome and always goes above and beyond to make you feel at “ home”. She is knowledgeable on the menu and drinks and makes the best Hot Chocolate. She is an asset to the pub and Ember Inns.

Warm & welcoming establishment which we visited on Bank Holiday Monday for lunch with family. Our reserved table was ready for us upon our arrival & both the meals and drinks were excellent.

I was looking for a place in Durham to have an early dinner - the Duke of Wellington was chosen and I can honestly say it was a very good choice! To begin from, no problem with a parking space. Quite spacious interior, which has retained the character of a typical British pub. Variety of good draft beers at the counter. The list of dishes on the menu is not very long, but there is certainly something for everyone, and we did not have to wait too long for the dishes to be served. I am sure I will visit the place again, if I am in Durham.

I love this place. The food is good and the staff are very friendly. The only problem is that almost all of the tables are booked in advance, so you are very lucky if you can get a table when you just walk in off the street. This is very unusual for a pub. If they didn't allow this we could get a table every time we go.

We come every week for the pup quiz and we always have an absolutely fantastic time! Staff, food and atmosphere is lovely.

Pre booked meal for 6 at Duke of Wellington Durham, and the atmosphere and food were excellent. The staff are friendly and efficient even though there was a trainee who, with support from colleagues, delivered the same excellent service and to top it all there was a very competitive quiz which most of the pub part took of. Will visit again soon.

How far would we travel for an Ember Inn? We know it's worth it! Understand Ember Inns have c150 UK venues & we've got 3 within easy travelling distance to us and I know if we're away we'll certainly look up where the nearest ones are because they're excellent. Not only do they have a wide choice menu you get excellent meals at a fair price. We had fish dish, pie and lasagne and all were really good....beautifully cooked. We're also lucky in that our locals have good clean décor, nice staff and great service.. Cant fault them and feel really satisfied afterwards. Thank you.

The rain stopped us from enjoying the lovely outside area but inside was comfortable, warm and welcoming. The Sunday roast was hearty, tasty and plentiful, the staff went above and beyond to meet our needs. Highly recommended!

The atmosphere is lovely and the staff are really friendly and efficient but its the food. I had the fishcakes which I had had previously on my last visit,they were delicious This time they were not nice at all. The coating was chewey and had a burnt aftertaste which made them hard to cut up. The fishcakes were one of the more expensive meals. It was my second visit and seems like the standards are slipping already and the food is not consistent...Shame.

I recently dined at The Duke of Wellington and had a wonderful experience. The pub's charming and cozy atmosphere made it an ideal setting for a relaxed evening. I opted for the beef & red wine lasagne which were cooked to perfection. The service was excellent, with friendly and attentive staff ensuring a pleasant meal. The Duke of Wellington is a great spot for a satisfying pub dinner. Highly recommended!

I recently visited the Duke of Wellington with my two young kids and had a fantastic experience. The food was really good, and the two-course meal cost us £50, which was reasonable for the quality. The staff were amazing—very friendly and accommodating, making us feel welcome. The food arrived in a timely manner, which is always a plus when dining with little ones.

Staff are lovely and welcoming. It’s always a good day seeing Chris, Dan, Kerri, and the gang whenever I come in.

Spent a few dsys with my brother in Bearpark... visited the DUKE om 2 occasions for lunch and dinner. Cant praise the food enough...1st class.. We were served by DIANE on both occasions,cant fault her service it was beyond excellent..Nothing was to much bother to her ...5star staff service. Will be back at some stage,looking forward to Diane's service again

Love this pub. Always clean and welcoming. New menu has been launched and the food is always delicious. The tandoori chicken skewers were delicious. Decided on a dessert Eton mess sundae was well presented and looked and tasted amazing. Friendly clean pub with a massive choice of delicious food

Absolutely lovely warm friendly welcome from Diane, as always. I always love coming here because I feel like part of the Duke family. Diane always goes above and beyond. She is so knowledgeable about the menu and I often ask her advice. She now knows my likes and dislikes and always makes me aware if something new is available that she thinks I will like. She is extremely professional, thoughtful and courteous. I’ve noticed how flexible she is and covers all rolls. She is a great Team player and helps and encourages new members of staff. Diane is an absolute star. She is a credit not only to the Duke but the Company .

I have just had a beautiful lunch at the Duke of Wellington. The chicken, bacon and avocado wrap is truly delicious and has an exceptional filling on top of flat bread. We were served by Diane and she is so professional and knowledgeable. My grandson is gluten free, she knew exactly what he could have to eat. Thank you Diane and the rest of the team for making a wonderful lunchtime experience.

Back at the Duke again for lunch to try something from the new season menu. The Hunters chicken schnitzel was delicious . We were served by Diane , who was great, very knowledgeable about the menu . She was polite and friendly too.

Food was just OK, service by inexperienced youngsters.

The meals were delicious, however the prices for drinks, even soft drinks were way overboard and just too expensive, was able to buy 3 cans of alcohol drinks for the price of one Fanta.

My first visit to the Duke of Welly in about 30 years. It used to be a 'go to' for Sunday lunch and food at other times. How is it possible to do an awful 'Scampi and Chips'? Well, if you start with that cheap scampi (is really even true scampi?) that is formed and looks more like food pellets you'd serve to farm animals, then that's a good start. Add chips that were similarly uniform but neither skinny fries nor chunky, you're nearly there. Shrivelled peas and a chunk of lemon later and the job is complete. Not cheap either. Yes, decent scampi, an attempt at chips that are not a reminder of the 1970's would cost a few pennies more and would erode the somewhat excessive profit margin you are making on this. I'm sure the staff, who were very nice, have no/very little say in this matter. Ember Inns.....not good enough. I'm not a food snob by any measure but this was sub-Wetherspoons fare.

Lovely space in a great position. Was just passing and had fond mmorues from years ago so dropped in. Quite quirky and welcoming but looking a little shabby to what I remember. Kind of place where the other customers look at you bcos they know you're not local. Was a very ignorant customer who obv knew the bar person and got served before us, despite him arriving at the bar after us. Yokel locals alright.

The food was lovely , the staff were very attentive and nothing was any trouble , the service was quick and the overall atmosphere was lovely , we celebrated our daughters 40th birthday, with 14 members of family, it was a very enjoyable night , the only slight thing that we would of liked to all be on one table but it was explained to us that because of where it was situated, near fire exit it had to be two separate tables, but we would all return again

Very nice place to eat i like fish and chips but it must be cod or im not interested. Call be old fashioned or boring even .but if im the one eating it im the one paying for it.

We took advantage of the offer for 33% off the total bill to have lunch. Excellent service as usual from Diane and the food was delicious (I especially love the chicken tikka curry!). Kerri ensured that our daughter was fed quickly as she had to return to work. Thanks again for the warm welcome, appetising food and excellent service.

Everything was fab, in particular the manager Kerri was super friendly and hospitable. I would definitely return if in the area!

Table was not ready when we arrived on time. Had not been cleared or cleaned before we arrived. I wouldnt normally mind but when you have booked and paid a deposit you expect the Table to be ready on time. Food was great. The rib of beef sunday roasts are lovely

Random pit stop on our way home. Very friendly and helpful staff. Good menu with lots of choice. And very reasonable prices. Ordered two mixed grills and they were gorgeous! Really well cooked succulant meats, with the char marks that add even more flavour. Very generous portion. Enjoyed very much.

Been meaning to give this venue a try for a while now and went there today for the first time, what a hidden gem 💎. Well rounded menu's with a decent amount of choices all at reasonable prices. The long haired Colonel went for the half a roasted chicken 🐔 with barbecue sauce (other sauces are available, myself I went for the mixed grill food arrived at the table relatively quickly and both meals were really good wife scoffed hers like she hadn't been fed for a couple of days 😋, the mixed grill was really good proper chicken breast cooked well on a open flame grill 2 really good quality sausages Gammon really good and the rare steak cooked to perfection (it's hard to find a decent chef 👩‍🍳 that knows how to cook a decent RARE steak) chips mushroom and peas 🫛 were nicely accompanied by onion rings. The steak was excellent and of great quality well matured and no gristle. I would thoroughly recommend this restaurant, service at the bar was also polite and welcoming.

Neil was great behind the bar. Once again, the food was super. Should come here more often. Hope to be back soon.

Great service and lovely atmosphere!

Great place to sit and get some work done in an evening with a drink and some snacks. Staff are friendly, and the atmosphere is great.

The service and staff were lovely. My son enjoyed his burger. However I was sorely disappointed with the Haddock and chips. The Haddock was on the small side. The mushy peas were almost non existent and I didn't eat the chips.
