Sadly now run by a chain and set of accountants dictate m the menu rather than a chef. Not sure if it’s lost mmm renamed as far badger now or still lamb and lion. Food and service ok but portions sparingly measured

Liked the service, ambience and meal. Stake and ale pie with mash was delicious. However one small criticism where menu states served with seasonal vegetables. This should have been singular, as it came with one very small pot of peas.

Had the Sea bass on chowder which was served Luke warm and a small portion to be honest .Poor desert menu. It appears to charge restaurant prices in a pub environment. Friendly staff. Not great value. Nice location and beer garden.

Nice place to stay, very central to attractions and close to station. Polite and helpful staff. Not suitable for disabled people or those that have difficulty climbing stairs, as there are no lifts or ramps. The room was clean and well presented, a bit small, and decor is very dark, there are tea and coffee making facilities, iron and board in room, and a fan.

We had a lovely evening meal here whilst staying in York. Two courses both were delicious, I would definitely recommend and wouldn’t hesitate in going back.

Ate in here with friends last week for the first time. the pub itself is Ok with lots of small rooms and a big beer garden. The menu wasn't extensive - usual stuff and not very inspiring. Friends had Fish and chips or Burger which they said was Ok. I chose the Salmon and whilst it was ok, the portion was barely a starter portion . Cheesecake for dessert was ok but nothing special.

York is justifiable famous for it's great pubs ,so many that you need a week to visit them all which is exactly what my twin brother Stephen and did in February before we started an eight days holiday in Prague. This is a special pub ,established in 1756 ,interior is superb ,nice rooms,great decor and furnishings,period details and plenty of seating options spread throughout this pub both inside and outside in their amazing looking igloo's and all housed in a fantastic Georgian era building. We were here on a Wednesday early afternoon ,we had just done a complete walk of the famous Roman Walks ,we were definitely in need of a beer and dropped into The Lamb & Lion Pub,a pub we always look forward to visiting . The pub was busy,it was in fact standing room only ,we got served no problem and we both opted to have Timothy Taylor's Brewery " landlord " ,served in pristine condition ,we just kicked back and took in the great pub we were in. My pale ale was really good,a golden ale,crisp,well balanced ,hoppy and bursting with taste,just what we needed after our lovely walk around the walls ,it was just so good being in such a great pub enjoying a great real ale. We both really enjoyed our pale ale's in here before we moved on and as on every previous visit to here we had a great time. The Lamb & Lion Pub is easy to locate along High Petergate. A great pub,if you're in the area most definitely well worth checking out.

Unique and quirky old pub, love the place! Rooms small but comfortable. Central York within 5min walking distance to shops. Food is amazing !!! Staff attentive and friendly and made us very welcome Parking expensive in York but worth paying that little bit more to park nearby places r get a taxi.

Called in for a couple of pints after having a meal at Mamma Mia round the corner. Drinks were lovely, ambiance was great and the staff were helpful and good fun.

The Lamb&Lion in York is a brilliant pub on High Petergate that offers a superb range of food and drink's and is one of the many pubs/bars and restaurants we visited on a six day city break in York. The Lamb&Lion is an excellent inn and was established in 1756'this superb pub is in an area of York where there are some superb pubs and is a great pub to relax and have a few beers or a tasty meal. Housed in a period Georgian building'this pub has a multi-roomed interior with many interesting fixtures and features and great seating options throughout the whole pubs interior and at the rear of the pub theres a beergarden with winter wonderland igloos which look absolutely amazing. We visited the Lamb&Lion while in this part of York centre as there are some historical old pubs we wanted to visit and when here this pub was really busy. On our visit we had a Timothy Taylor's cask ale each which were superb and very well priced.This is a brilliant pub as is this area of York and well worth a visit and is so easy to find from Exhibition Square bus stop it's a minutes walk.(This is my first review of the Lamb&Lion). We popped in after a meal in the centre for a drink. They had seating inside igloos in the beer garden at the back, with blankets and little heaters, was really cute and cozy. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, were very chatty and made us feel so welcome. More people should come and experience this, as it has been a highlight of our trip to York.

Not entitling this review ‘hidden gem’ was like a kid trying to pull a powerful magnet off steel. Behind an historic building on an ancient street leading to the Minster lies a pub beer garden with great seating options, a friendly atmosphere and flanked by the city walls there’s a real unique quality here. The pub grub hit the spot and the friendly service sealed the future return with friends.

The staff here are absolutely amazing, went completely above and beyond for us during our visit. We visited on a really cold and wet day and were immediately welcomed and taken to our table, which was covered by a big umbrella and had a gas heat lamp next to it, with our server making sure it was warm enough for us. Our served kept coming back to make sure we were all warm and okay and despite her being soaked she was super cheerful and very friendly. Food was really nice and well priced, the home cut chips were the best I've ever had, drinks are a bit more pricey but our overall experience was great.

After this service I question why we go out to support local bars and restaurants.When seated at our table the waitress tried to put the heater on but was out of gas and said she would get her manager to change the canister. Cut a long story short after asking another 3 different waitress nothing was done. If someone had just come and said it was broken then that would have been ok but no.We had 50minutes left on our table and to be fair we would have stayed for another 2rounds if the heater would have been sorted.Shocking

Visited the Lamb & Lion today for a long-anticipated birthday lunch with old friends however the weather was very wet, cold and windy so we were glad to have a well-covered table with a heater nearby.Our host Molly was cheerful, helpful and an absolute credit to the establishment - and all of the staff who were struggling to deliver meals and drinks in the outdoors in torrential rain and chilly temperatures deserve a mention.Food was very nice but we look forward to coming back in sunnier, warmer weather when we can make an afternoon of it, instead of slowly getting hypothermia - no fault of the venue!

Been here many times before and clearly new management since. Arrived with friends of mine to a rude gentleman by the name of Mike who from the off looked annoyed by our arrival. We were then led through the pathway to the beer garden where we placed our drinks order, manager didn’t seem happy in manner and came off with an attitude problem. The girls on staff were very welcoming and chatted to us while we waited. Girls are a credit to the place. Shame the manager is the opposite.

This has got to be one of my favourite places to visit - the food was delicious, the view was amazing & the service was outstanding! The manager Mike made us all feel very welcome (he even gave me a cosy sheepskin throw to sit on). I will definitely go back there again!

We’ve been coming to York for years now and we always visit the Guy Fawkes which is a great pub, amazing food and excellent staff, but we decided to try their sister pub the Lamb and Lion and what a regret. We sat outside in the beer garden and there were rats in our immediate area, as we were leaving there was one rat just near the entrance too, mentioned this to the bar staff and they laughed it off. The whole place is dirty and the service and staff are shocking verging on rude. Wasn’t impressed with their covid procedures either. One to miss.

Although the pub is a warren of lovely little drinking places it is the beer garden that is the selling point. Looks directly onto the Minster. Both sunny and shaded areas. Always make sure we head here when in York.

Asombroso. Qué hallazgo. Estábamos muy agradecidos de encontrar este lugar en nuestro viaje a York. Bien ubicado cerca del ministro y las paredes, fuimos a tomar una copa como parada en boxes mientras caminábamos por las paredes y regresamos más tarde para cenar. Espacios encantadores, ambiente (por dentro y por fuera) y comida fantástica - Camembert y halloumi eran perfectos - ¡el mejor halloumi que había probado en mucho tiempo! Muy recomendable para visitar York. ¡Definitivamente volveremos!

Hermoso lugar oldie woldy con pequeñas habitaciones encantadoras para descansar y disfrutar de su bebida. El personal, muy amable y servicial, no nos dejó esperando mucho tiempo en el encantador bar antes de mostrarnos el hermoso jardín en la parte de atrás, donde se puede ver la catedral a través de los árboles y la muralla de la ciudad junto al jardín.Cervezas muy buena presentación del almuerzo muy agradable pero decepcionado con el bistec demasiado masticable y la salsa de queso azul era como verter leche sobre el bistec demasiado fino (y estaba caliente). Tomate de champiñones delicioso, patatas fritas muy buenas también. Lástima que el bistec no lo fuera! Tranquilo caro también. Pero está en una hermosa posición privilegiada a 2 minutos a pie de la Catedral. Justo dentro de la calle Peter's Gate York.

Cenamos en este pequeño y acogedor pub / restaurante en el centro de la ciudad y disfrutamos muchísimo de la experiencia. El menú es bastante limitado, posiblemente debido a la pandemia, pero la comida estaba bien preparada y tenía una buena relación calidad-precio para el centro de la ciudad. El servicio fue bueno y la comida estaba bien presentada. ¡Una noche agradable!

Vine a almorzar tarde hoy para el cumpleaños de mi esposa (1 de septiembre en la calle). Me senté afuera y pedí 3 de los bocadillos y un entrante. ¡Todo era encantador, excepto los bollos de pan que estaban duros como una roca y no comestibles! ! ¡Intenté quejarme por un reemplazo, pero nadie despejó la mesa durante más de una hora! Cuando finalmente se lo mencionamos al camarero, él dijo que se lo diría al chef, y luego regresó para decirle que le había "dado al chef una mierda". Ningún reembolso no es útil en absoluto. Además, cuando fui a usar a las señoras, que está justo al lado de la cocina del pub y la puerta de la cocina estaba abierta, escuché al mismo camarero decir que otra mesa se había quejado de un sándwich de atún. Cuando el chef se disculpó, el camarero dijo: "¡Oh, no te preocupes, no eres tú, son esos malditos idiotas de arriba!" ! ¡Servicio repugnante!

Visitamos el lunes a la hora del almuerzo y estaba bastante ocupado, era un día muy soleado.Conseguí una mesa mientras mi esposo fue y pidió bebidas, hay escalones empinados hasta la cervecería al aire libre, por lo que definitivamente diría que no es apto para discapacitados.Vimos el menú en nuestros teléfonos y optamos por sándwiches con pan ciabatta, estábamos usando comer fuera para ayudar en el esquema 3. 75 fue muy razonable. Pedí el bistec plano con pesto, estaba muy sabroso, la ensalada fue una pérdida de tiempo ya que estaba muy floja pero no es gran cosa, también pedimos una porción de piel en papas fritas que estaban muy bien. Definitivamente vale la pena otra visita tal vez para probar una comida cocinada adecuada que se veía muy bien que se estaba sirviendo. Mi marido dijo que su sándwich de pollo también estaba muy sabroso.

Hermoso pub convenientemente ubicado dentro de las murallas de la ciudad. Enorme jardín de cerveza en la parte de atrás en el que siempre es agradable sentarse, desde donde se tiene una vista de la Catedral y las paredes. En el interior también es encantador, muchas habitaciones pequeñas, todas cuidadosamente decoradas.Gran variedad de bebidas y la comida es excelente. Un poco más caro, pero vale la pena. El personal es amable y servicial. En general, es un pub fabuloso. :)

We would like to commend Dan who works for you. After a slightly disappointing night due to COVID (we had been unable to get in most bars) we had decided to call it a night and were waking back to our hotel marmadukes. It was only 8.30pm. We thought last ditch attempt to get in somewhere and we also really needed to use the facilities and although we’re weren’t able to drink inside Dan let us pop in to do this. After chatting for a little while Dan popped in to see if he could accommodate us at all and managed to make space for us in the secret garden! Such a nice well mannered young man. He’s an asset to your bar. We had a lovely time and although only stayed for one as I’d not brought a jacket with me the drinks and atmosphere were great! Thanks for saving the night Dan. X

The room was ok but really dark but we were upgraded to deluxe double room the only thing is we stayed in room 11 and found that the windows are not double glazed and the street was noisy at night as well as early morning. The breakfast was hit and miss as 1 of the chefs didnt know how to cook a fried egg or poached. The secret garden is really nice and relaxing to sit in and just chill. Dan was really amazing he couldn't do enough for us as we cant nagging him for advice on wat was opening and if booking was needed for various venues which it is. Alice the assistant manager was really good, professional and lovely to talk too. The only advice is to for any fresh towels and toiletries is to leave the used ones outside your door and ask for fresh ones as the chamber maids are not allowed in while your staying there cos of Covid 19 so please be prepared. As for the hotel itself it was really nice,friendly and have cask ales on for ale drinkers and the food is really good too. Worth a visit and really close to all amenities

My first pint after lockdown in the fabulous beer garden at the Lamb and Lion. Dan and the team have done a great job making the place safe and it is clear that loads of work has gone in to getting ready. The staff were super friendly and careful and you could see how much care they were taking with their hygiene etc. Oh and it was a great pint of Tim Taylors too. Well two pints to be fair. Will be back again soon

First post lockdown pub visit. Didn't disappoint. First class food, drink and service. Clean, warm and friendly as ever.

Was too cold for the excellent garden, so I sat in the bar and watched the world go by outside. Food was really tasty and better than my prior visit.

It was busy in the Lamb & Lion on a Saturday at lunchtime, but the food was swiftly delivered and there was a good selection of beers. Our food was not amazing but there was enough of it and it tasted good.

Planned a leisurely stroll round York with Sunday lunch. Did a bit of research online before hand and decided on the Lamb & Lion on Petersgate. Even though we didn't have a reservation, the four of us managed to be seated in the main restaurant (I would recommend booking) and had a fabulous lunch. Everything fresh, massive yorkshire puds, oodles of gravy and a very welcoming host who was great fun. Price was also very reasonable as was the cost of drinks.Would definitely recommend!

He estado aquí en varias ocasiones y cada vez he disfrutado de la comida y el ambiente. Situado justo dentro de las paredes, siempre es amable y el personal es eficiente y la comida excelente. Mi única queja es que esta vez visité a un vegetariano y encontré que la opción era prácticamente inexistente. Terminó solo comiendo papas fritas y un sándwich. Genial para el comedor de carne, pero el menú vegetariano necesita una actualización.

Food was absolutely amazing, nicely presented and very tasty, Jojo in the restaurant was very friendly and attentive, our thanks to the whole team, keep it up 😁

Lovely ambience, friendly staff and quirky seating in alcoves and smaller rooms.Not the most generous portions for the main course, but well cooked if a little simplistic.This was the first pub meal we've had in York, so we couldn't really recommend it on the basis of this visit.
