Do not stay here if you're a female traveller staying alone. I was looking forward to my stay at the end of a work trip to spend a further night meeting a local friend for dinner. Upon check in I was told that the heating had been turned on in my room, which I understand as fully appreciate heating costs, but the room was absolutely freezing. Towards the end of the staff member showing me to my room, she said that no staff stay on site at night and the pub closes at 10.30pm so you will need a key to access the pub. I thought this was strange so asked if anyone else was staying. I was told a man in the room next door. I was running late to meet my friend so during my car journey I reflected on what the staff member said and did not feel at all comfortable staying alone with a male guest. Anything could have happened. Staff not being present on site was not told to me upon booking. After the meal with my friend I returned to the Lamb Inn to explain my situation to the staff member and went to collect my belongings as I didn't feel comfortable staying. She agreed with my situation yet the Lamb Inn are refusing to give me a refund via expedia. I am£70 out of pocket as I then went to stay at a Premier Inn where I felt safe. Shame, I was really looking forward to my stay here. To the owners, do not promote your business as a hotel if you do not have the capability to run it like one!

A family meal while visiting family in Devon. The atmosphere was welcoming and cosy with open fires and cosy spots to sit. We all enjoyed our meal, the fish tacos were fantastic, the Thai curry was spicy and delicious. Kids burger got a glowing review. Puddings were all enjoyed - the sundae was super. The price was reasonable. A lovely cosy village pub, we look forward to going back.

Dreadful Sunday lunch, cold plates, tough beef, tough potatoes - a first - one carrot, one thin broccoli spear, half an undercooked parsnip, all served on a strange purée. Can’t believe we were charged £18+ each for it. Won’t be going back, we have been several times over the years. Shame.

We have always loved the Lamb and the food. We are disappointed now. The food was a mix of powerful flavours which were not balanced , they did not complement each other. Even the desert included flavours which tasted strange . It was very quiet. We would like to return but only when the food has improved.

Our first time at the Lamb for a while, and sadly it didn't live up to expectations. The pub had long been known for great locally produced food, great beer with a warm and lively atmosphere. We visited mid-week and found the experience to be rather underwhelming. The menu has some wonderful dishes on it, alongside some pub classics - not exciting, but a solid menu. We ordered a variety of starters and mains. The waitress returned to our table to deliver our food and told us there had been a mistake in the kitchen and that the mains were being prepared to come out with or before the starters. It seems to us that the chef wanted to go home promptly, as the kitchen closed at 8pm and this was as around 1945. My wife had the cod tacos and they were brilliant - tasty, well presented and truly creative. My children had the kids beef burgers and I had a chicken burger. The burgers weren't great. The children's burger was just a plain burger in a bap, (no option for cheese etc). They both complained the burger was dry. My chicken burger was tasty, but the chicken was overcooked and therefore quite tough on the edges. The chips were fantastic! Dessert was good. We were informed the kitchen had no cream and that meant a couple of the dishes were off/needing to be adapted. Three tasty puddings (ice creams and the sundae) arrived and were enjoyed by all. Overall it fell below expectations. Perhaps our expectations were too high, but it isn't a shadow of what it once was. I hope our visit was not typical. The Lamb holds a special place in my heart and it is painful to write a review that isn't gushing with admiration. But sadly it was the worst meal we had out this week. Another local pub the following night showed us just what was missing. A plea to the Lamb team - rather than defending criticism and feedback (which your reviews are full of), embrace it and improve. It's an amazing spot but it isn't hitting the mark at present. It can be so much more than it is today.

I have long loved this pub, lovely interior, cracking food and good beer. But the last two visits disappointing. Food not up the standard we are used to. We came as a group of 9, and were asked to order a few days beforehand. Food came out lightening quick, (urr so quick that we didnt have time to put our cutlery down before the mains were out!) - apart from mine. 20mins late. They had forgotten. Poor burger, stodgy. And worse still no apology or discount for the lateness of the meal. They’ve lost their edge. Real shame.

My partner and I just got married at the lamb inn on 20/03/24 This lovely pub/inn lives up to the lovely photos on its website and more. We wanted a elopement wedding and Nick, Vikky and the rest of the staff was soo amazing. We had to bring our daughters last min and it was no issue at all, everyone was so accommodating.. I was greeted by a very friendly member of staff screaming, 'eek your the groom' Was lovely. Nick was constantly helping and ensuring was we OK. He even knew the nerves were kicking in and even offered me on my wedding day to go pour my own pint. Vikky was lovely, helping my beautiful wife into her dress and running around turning music on and filming our wedding. She also help us pick our photographer hannah frost who is amazing and finding a place for my wife to get her hair done. She made me laugh as my partner was ready coming from our suite.. shouting at me 'get in now!!' It was charming she cared so much. I had the best day of my life at this place with these wonderful people. The food..... omg the burger, the burger is the best burger I've ever ate. My wife had the brownie for pudding on our wedding meal and she told Nick was the best brownie she's eaten. The breakfast was lovely.. we didnt realise had to book in a time and was early but Nick did his best and got us seated an fed. The venue... I LOVE IT!!!! The garden, is beautiful honestly I took photos of everything, I fell in love with the place. The cobble road outside the pub, the path leading upto our suite, ahh its beautiful. They have a huge tree, a place for young kids to play, the outside garden has a throne.. which I obviously sat on. My wedding pics look amazing cause of this place. Inside its very clean and rustic vibe. The fireplace is stunning. The tap room has a novelty sheep's head (don't worry it's a toy not a real sheep's head lol) The whole place blew me away and I just had the best of time. My wife and I will travel another 6 hours to get to you as we live in Lincolnshire because The Lamb inn is apart of my love story. Thank you sooo much Nick vikky and the rest of the team.. I'd give you 10 stars if I could. Love Karl Emma, Grace and Winter xx

My partner and I went to Sandford for the weekend and we chose to stay at the Lamb Inn. A beautiful location in a quaint little village. When we arrived the owner already knew who we were which was lovely and very welcoming. We were promptly shown to your room. We were in room 6 which was lovely. Not the largest of rooms but plenty of space and provided everything which was needed. A nice little coat rail by the door and a place for your shoes. An en suite with a good size shower. There was a TV to watch though we didn't use this facility. The bed was comfy and the window could be opened but restricted by a cable which is of course, a fantastic security feature. Biscuits, still water, fizzy water, tea, coffee and hot chocolate were all provided in the room and replenished each day. Once we had unpacked we headed back down to the pub area which was excellent. As some one who really enjoys a good traditional pub feel, the vibe here was brilliant so we had dinner and some drinks. There were even playing cards on the table in case you wanted to have a little game of something. Staff were very friendly and attentive and after ordering our food, it came very quickly. I had the burger and it was HUGE, no room for dessert afterwards thats for sure! In the morning we had breakfast at 9am. They serve a continental breakfast which was really nice, served in another room within the pub (the other side of the bar) which was a great touch as it just separated the dining experience of dinner. Once we sat down we were asked if we wanted tea or coffee, each of which were served in their own containers (small tea pot for tea and a small cafetière for coffee) and a small jug of milk on the table. Warm croissants and pain au chocolats were then provided and on the bar there was orange juice, apple juice, yoghurts, fruit and a selection of 3 cereals to choose from and help yourself to, all served with deliciously creamy freshly sourced local milk! Wholegrain or sourdough toast was also offered so plenty of energy provided for the day ahead. The location was lovely, almost like going back in time and I would not hesitate to go back again!

We stayed in Sandford for 5 nights, & ate here on our first night. The menu looked appetising, & we both ordered salt & pepper squid. We received 4 small squid rings each, that had no hint of salt & pepper. My wife's whitebait were simply fried, - not dusted with flour , as she anticipated. I had slow roasted belly of pork. - This was good. Service was slow, although the landlady did apologise. They are hot on marketing, & appear to have a lively social scene, so I would not say that I wouldn't go back, & I accept that based on one visit, this review cannot give the entire picture.

My wife and I stayed several nights over a weekend. From the moment we checked in, we were greated warmly by the staff and they couldn't have been more attentive our entire stay. The room was beautiful, done simply but stylish with a huge comfy bed and even a cafeteria so we could have real coffee instead of the usual instant in a hotel. I am more of a shower person (and the shower was great) but the free standing bath was so good I could have stayed in it for hours. The continental breakfast was a perfect way to set us up for the day. Some nice Cereal and coffee followed by fresh croissants was just the right amount for a day of walking without being too heavy. The food was so good we ended eating here several times, twice in one day infact, with an incredible Sunday roast with all the trimmings and one of the best burgers I've ever had in the evening. I can't recommend the food enough! All this paired with some delicious ales, I never wanted to leave. Sadly we had to but I can't wait to plan my next trip back!

Booked online, very prompt confirmation. We visited The Lamb Inn on the 3rd of September. Sunday roast was delicious. I had chicken and my other half had beef. Chicken was superb and I tried a little bit of beef which was also great, really succulent. Generous amount of veg and gravy. Really liked the interior, very homely but also with an artistic touch. Comfy seating. Clean bathrooms. We also had desserts, even though we were full up after the roast he. I had mandarin sorbet which was very refreshing and OH had a brownie. Raspberry coulis was beautiful. We thought that prices were very good. Young gentleman working that day who greeted us and took our orders was very welcoming, smiling and friendly. Thank you, sorry don’t know his name. If we are back in Devon, we would most definitely visit again. Yum!

Bar staff shutting pub 30 minutes before advertised times when people are still in the premises. Refused custom literally as walking in the door of the pub whilst other customers are sat at the bar. Advertised times have the pub and restaurant open at the times we were refused service without any reason for this and the doors of the pub were then shut and locked with others still inside. Seemed rather unreasonable, when staff will not be able to actually close until customers have vacated the premises.

After having a long exhausting drive to the Inn to be greeted by the staff and looked after at dinner was so relaxing. The room we had (3) was well maintained and quiet. I had the stuffed aubergine without the cheese. There wasn't an alternative I could have (e.g. side of avocado) which most restaurants would offer. As a main meal, I expected it to fill me up without needing to pay for a starter and pudding. It didn't. I was so hungry afterwards that I ate another whole meal when I got home!! I am a small ish person with a normal appetite. Considering the price, I was very disappointed. I thought the service was pretty average too - good but not particularly friendly or welcoming. I wouldn't choose to eat here again.

Stayed here at the Lamb Inn for two nights recently whilst visiting family in the area. No complaints whatsoever, we received a very friendly welcome on arrival, the room was nicely furnished and comfortable. Although there is no private parking, we were able to park virtually outside one night and in the nearby public car park on the other. The continental only breakfast has had a few negative reviews from some, but it was perfect for us and those complaining should maybe consider the difficulties worthy businesses such as this have experienced over the past few years. This business and many more like it deserves to succeed and should be supported and not be subjected to petty moans. We’ll certainly be back next time we’re visiting family in the area…

On arrival we overheard the young lady telling guests that different foods were off or they’d run out of this or that. We ordered our meal and were told that there was a delay because they were busy. Four tables! We waited approximately 50 minutes; my husband had mushroom risotto and I had chicken goujons, home made chips and salad. I was assured by the young lady that it hadn’t been reheated; the chips weren’t ‘plump’, but ‘shrivelled’, the goujons seemed to have been left in the oven too long, not burnt but hard and dry.The young lady said that we should have said something before, but to be perfectly honest I couldn’t wait another 50minutes and also, if the chef thought my meal was good enough to send out, a second meal wouldn’t have been any better! She did say that it was the head chefs day off. I’m so sorry that this delightful place was a disappointment.

I love a roast me. There always seems to be a toss up between size and quality but this roast is exactly the right balance. Hearty enough to fill you up but absolutely delicious!

I stayed at The Lamb Inn for a few nights and ate at the restaurant for breakfast and dinner each day. This place is wonderful! The chef prepares an array of incredible dishes, but my favorite was the locally sourced Duck. Perfectly prepared! Really friendly staff, charming atmosphere, and great food - you can't go wrong here!

We stayed here (x 3) recently and the accommodation is great. We had a separate building with its own staircase entrance and a free standing bath that you could watch the TV from.Breakfast was a particular highlight and has been constantly referred to as the best yet during our holiday.

Visited / booked a Sunday lunch here after popping in for a few still ciders last Thursday evening Glad we booked as the place was fully booked this lunchtime The Lamb is a great little village Devon pub that sells a good selection of real ales, ciders and wines - the staff are friendly and pleasant - there is free WiFi if you want it - children are welcome The dining area / bar is quite unique with a couple of sofas placed between the tables (there is also an adjoining restaurant area which we didn’t use)We hadn’t dined here before (although we did have and recommend the home made pork scratchings with apple sauce to complement a Crazy Goat cider (also highly recommended) on the Thursday evening) but liked the look of the menu / food on offer (see photo)We both ate from the Sunday lunch section of the menu - I had the duck, my wife the nut roast (see photos) Both dishes were extremely tasty and well complemented by a large Yorkshire and a variety of veg including cauliflower cheese - the portion sizes were goodI then had the sticky toffee pudding and my wife the bakewell tart (see photos) - again both were really good (I particularly liked the honeycomb biscuits with the sticky toffee pudding)Despite the pub being really busy the service was efficient With drinks and a coffee the bill came to well under £50 - which we think was great value We recommend the Lamb and would eat (and drink) here again - thank you

Was in the area and wanted some lunch and The Lamb was pointed out to us that it was the closest. The food we ordered was very well presented and cannot fault it. It's a bit out of the way but if in the area, try it, it's good.

Having lived in Sandford Square quite a few moons ago, with The Lamb being my local, I thought that I'd pop in during a visit to friends. Blimey - it's been launched into gastro-niceness-land. No sign of the old bloke at the bar, with his trousers held up with string, accompanied by a Jack Russell. In fairness he's probably no longer with us. But the piano's gone too. And there's tons of dining tables everywhere, which does make it easier to eat as those little round ones only had room for your pint. Looks like you can kip there for the night too...but no longer on the sofa by the fire. And there's a cinema? In a pub? Ah well that's change for you. Still a nice place though. I was hungry. It was fully booked (Booked? What is this question "Have you booked?"). But the lovely old warm beating heart of The Lamb sprung into action and the man (Harry I think his name was) found me a place anyway bless him. And the food was an eye opener. I was prepared to settle for gammon, egg and thick cut chips, but the menu had words like "Scallops", "Dauphinoise" and "Gnocchi" on it. And kale...people go to pubs and eat kale? I think that I'm getting old. That said, the Lamb Koftas and salad were lovely, so I daresay everything else on offer would have fulfilled their promise. All in all, a bit of a culture shock, but a pleasant one as my memories of the place did battle with the new reality. I think I'll give one of those rooms a go next time I'm around. The Lamb's still a great little place...well done to whoever's got it now.

As a frequent traveller, it is very seldom you find an Inn which has superb rooms and amazing food. Lots tick one box but only a few tick both and I’m pleased to say The Lamb Inn gets 2 massive ticks!

We went after a recommendation from my daughter for a lunchtime meal. The lunchtime menu offered a good selection for what we wanted. We ordered burgers which were filling, well presented and freshly prepared. All produce is locally sourced. There was a pleasant pub atmosphere. Parking might be a problem if it was busy. Booking in advance would be advised. We might well visit again if the opportunity arose.

We visited last minute & they accommodated us without any hassle. Lovely warm welcome in this gorgeous cosy pub. We ordered the spiced tomato soup which was delicious the rosemary bread was my absolute highlight! I had the duck main and my husband had the pork belly both were absolutely faultless! Generous portions and perfectly cooked! We both agreed these were probably the best pork belly and duck dishes we have ever had the pleasure of eating. For dessert we had the kahlua brûlée...delicious!! The perfect end to an amazing meal. The staff were lovely and very attentive & the courses were perfectly timed. We can’t wait to visit again, so lucky to have this on our doorstep! Thank you

We drove 40 miles to visit this pub with friends for lunch using a Groupon Voucher and were not disappointed. The quality of the food was excellent and great value with the voucher. The pub is quaint, snug and well appointed. The staff are excellent and they have a good selection of real ales to supplement their offerings.

We stayed the night en route to Cornwall. Our room was upgraded at no extra cost and dinner was delicious served in a warm bar with a roaring fire and lovely relaxed atmosphere but great service. We were Really impressed. Only one complaint. Our room needed a dark blind as well as curtains as the beautiful old lamp outside shines all night.

Visited for lunch as part of a groupon offer and had a great meal. We had the burger and chips and bacon with salad which was served in a delicious ciabatta bun. The burger was tasty, filling and tasted home made. My wife had the ciabatta fish goujons which was great too & my father in law had the fish of the day (hake) which was excellent too. We really enjoyed our lunch and would recommend & return.

We’ve gone to the Lamb as our local pub for many years and whilst the experience has not always been consistently perfect, generally it’s been a relaxed, charming village pub, unstuffy with surprisingly good food. However, we took friends on a Sunday evening and had a really disappointing time. Anywhere else and we would refuse to return. The service was very polite from a young man struggling on his own to both run the bar and serve the food, whilst it appeared a cluster of staff? drinking in the garden were enjoying some downtime for the evening, so maybe that’s the reason. We had French onion soup which was simply a bowl of sliced onions that had been cooked in butter/oil. No stock / soup at all! Just fried onions, quite weird! We used to enjoy complimentary home baked bread with balsamic etc..not any more. Duck confit was fine, as was the Caesar salad, indicating perhaps no professional chef on duty? All the vegetables served with main courses were very unpleasant. They seemed to have all been cooked in oil, were limp and greasy! Ew! The fish wasn’t filleted, so mouthfuls of bones to unhappily contend with. We’ll try again once the new owners have more time to sort the problems out, but so far, not good and heartbreaking to see a local pub slip this way.

We have been meaning to pop into The Lamb for a couple of years and the reviews were all excellent. However, the website is a little out of date, the ownership has changed recently and the rooms and service were a little tired. We stayed in a garden room which was comfy and cosy with a wood burner inside and a seating area outside. The evening meal was booked for 7.30 but by 9pm our order still hadn't arrived so we went back to our room to chill. The meal was delivered to us 15minutes later. It was okay but nothing special. My fish was particularly bony and I wasn't impressed after the write ups we had read. Perhaps they had a busy evening in the kitchen and we were unlucky. The whole experience wasn't cheap and I felt that we could have had a better time at another establishment for less money which was disappointing.

We hadn't been to The Lamb before and joined friends there for a Saturday lunch recently. We (and the dog) were warmly greeted by the staff on arrival and a most convivial session followed. The food was simple and tasty but it was the cheerful service and warm atmosphere that made this outing so special. We'll certainly be going back!

We went for lunch with my cousin and his wife, who live in the area and had a very nicely prepared meal of local ingredients cooked and presented thoughtfully. A very enjoyable experience in a cosy setting. Beer and cider selection was good too. Recommended if you like something a little bit fancy with your comfort food, but don't want to be over-cheffed.

We now live not far from the Lamb, in fact it was one of the reasons we liked and moved to the area. Hence we were a bit apprehensive when the old owner, who established its reputation, passed the baton to new people in Dec 2017. However, we have been in for drinks, coffee and now twice for a meal and the atmosphere, friendliness and quality are as good as ever. A super 'destination' country pub. Long may it continue!

We were going to Devon to see our daughter for her birthday and wondered where we could stay. She suggested The Lamb Inn and told us that as well as the Inn, the food was excellent too! There was a good choice of food, and when we got our meal in the corner of the Inn by a warm fire we found that the quality was excellent too. During the week that we stayed there, we explored most of the menu items and were well impressed with the consistent level of quality. This being near the Sandford Orchards Cider makers were were able to sample a glass or two of 'Old Kirton', which turns out to be a local way of saying 'Crediton'. A fine beverage indeed.

Meeting friends for lunch was our time to catch over ,what we hoped would be a pleasant lunch and it exceeded all our expectations. We all had starters and main courses which were sublime. The beef just was so tasty and melted in the mouth and I believe the pork was equally good. The veg were cooked to perfection as were the Yorkshire puddings and the cauliflower cheese. I just wish it was closer to home!

I'm always a bit apprehensive going into a strange pub But the bar staff were fantastic. We were soon chatting and seated. We went in to book a table for the evening, I think it was Natalie that dealt with us very lovely bubbly lady with great smile. We sat and had a beer I had a pint of otter very very nice. We sat and watched the locals come and go it was a great atmosphere. We ordered our bar meals at 18.00 I had pie of the day chicken and bacon it was just awesome, sourced from local butchers my wife had lamb rosemary sausages again from local butchers. Both of the meals were really nice the whole evening was just perfect it was the best night out we have had in a long while. Credit has to go the whole team as they all work hard and it is the hub of the community I must go back. There is plenty of parking outside the pub.

Traditional English pub inside with a few tables out the front (although there were wasps around the day we were there so had to venture into the inside which was charming and comfortable). They also have a courtyard too. The menu is small but the food is tasty. The staff are friendly and helpful. It is easier to park up in the Village Hall park because there isn't much parking out the front on the street.

Sandford is a lovely village, quite off the tourist trail. The Lamb is at the centre - albeit with no parking of its own. But it's worth searching for a space! We went for lunch with friends (we were the only ones there but it was a Monday) and enjoyed the onion soup, sausage and mash, roast pork sandwich, fish of the day which was a beautiful hake cooked with capers. The only snag was that the avocado and feta salad arrived with no avocado! It is testament to the quality of the salad that it was only half way through that our friend noticed. The measure of a place is how things like this are dealt with - when it was pointed out, not only was the waitress very apologetic, bringing a plate of avocado, the chef himself came out and apologise profusely. We all make mistakes and nobody minded this one. We took drinks and a lovely apple, cinnamon and blackberry crumble in the beautiful garden at the back with lovely views of the surrounding countryside. At £60 for the four of us including drinks, we thought this was excellent value.Visited 8th May 2017.
