Generally heaving, but nice little, off the main street, pub that avoids the worst of the tourists that invade Covent Garden.

Great place for a beer. Or a fight. Or a beer and a fight. But just leave it at a beer and everyone goes home happy.

Been coming here just before Christmas for around 20 years with my rugby club for Christmas carols. A traditional, joyous event which many of the pub’s other customers used to love singing along with, filling everyone with seasonal festive cheer. Tonight however, just as we were launching into a full rendition of Good King Wenceslas, some officious killjoy goon strutted up in a high-viz jacket and rudely interrupted us, informing us that singing carols is now not permitted. The luminous grinch employed by the (presumably) new landlord was under strict orders to put a stop to Christmas. Such a shame. This used to be the go-to pub in Covent Garden. Now a miserable, soulless and joyless place. Probably one best left to the tourists that are superficially impressed by the history. For Londoners, there are 1001 better nights out.

Probably my favourite of the many pubs I visited on a mini break to London. Lovely pub inside, good selection of beers and very friendly staff. Can't fault it.

Sammanfattning Lamb and Flag är mer än bara en pub – det är en upplevelse. Här möts Londons historia, charm och genuina matkultur i en härlig symfoni. Wonderful and unexpected. We managed to escape the crush of tourists around Coven Gardens and found this place tucked away in an (almost) alley. It was crowded, and everything in London was crowded, but we asked for the dining room and were directed upstairs. It is clearly from an earlier century but well preserved and presented a great atmosphere. It was also not crowded up there, had a full bar, and we had an extraordinary meal. We would go out of our way to return here one day and we recommend it highly for others interested in excellent food and a wonderful atmosphere.

Popped into the Lamb and Flag for a couple of drinks. Great traditional style pub with a great atmosphere and quite a bit of history to it. Slightly off the touristy route which makes an ideal location but still busy. Food smelt great although I did not eat that day.

Busy ..with a great atmosphere..

My friends and I had dinner here recently and it was excellent. The 3-4 guys behind the bar/restaurant bit upstairs were so nice and helpful, fish & chips / curry sauce / extra tartar sauce too all excellent!

The atmosphere is awesome. We upset everyone's day by arriving 10 minutes early. Not sure if we were punished for that but we were given roast beef that was like shoe leather with gravy. The last peice was tender. But the brag on their website stating how their chefs prepare the freshest and best meals. This is a huge stretch. I'm sure this will be called up to being a rude American. I would only return here to have a pint in an awesome looking place. But looks can be deceiving. Highly Overrated.

It was really busy, but we got served quickly. Nice pub inside, with good beers and wine. Friendly staff, too. We didn't eat, so we can't comment on their food

We had a table booked for 11 people today which included 2 children age 4 & under. The service was excellent, everyone very helpful & polite, especially on such a busy day being Rememberance Sunday. We were celebrating 2 birthdays so took cakes along for after. I have to say Hannah was particularly helpful with looking after them & helping to get them set up & ready to take to table. Thank you Hannah. An excellent multitasker!

On the plus side, my partner loved her Pan Roasted Salmon and the Cauliflower Cheese when it eventually arrived. The main reason we went was for a roast. The Lamb Shoulder I had was very overcooked, possibly because our meals took so long to arrive. We only got our Cauliflower Cheese side just before we finished everything else. We’d asked for water straight away but eventually went and got it ourselves. Would have had dessert but didn’t want to risk it. Won’t be going again. Just to be clear, this was the Lamb and Flag in Rose Street, off Bedford Street in Covent Garden.

Lovely staff and a very lively atmosphere. The place looks and feels (and smells) like a pub. Would recommend for the experience.

One of London's legendary pubs that is worth the detour! Very good food accompanied by a wide choice of quality beers, in a warm setting. I recommend!

Very good English boozer. Covent Garden prices but quick bar service and plenty of space inside and out to have a catch up. Excellent selection of British real ale so would recommend for locals and tourists wanting to get ‘the feel’ of an English pub.

I havent been to the Lamb and Flag for ages... used to be an afterwork favoutite.... and I would still recommend it as a drinking pub. Sadly I booked a table of four for Sunday roast...and I cannot recomend. Have you have ever bought one of those Iceland Roast ready meals for under £3, well Icelands are 5 times better. The portion I got was smaller than a kids portion (we mentioned this and they did come out with more beef to their credit, it was served on a side plate and looked just like two trainer inner soles). Our bill was £170 for four below average roasts and two bottles of Merlot. I regretted not booking Gouchos, 2 mins away and it would have been 10x better and the same price. We had wanted a pub atmosphere but but but but but.......lesson learnt.. it is now just a tourist pub. Surely the Lamb and Flag can do better, even it is for tourists!

Cracking old pub, didn't eat but the mood was good, the food looked great and the beer was lovely.

This is a must do if you want to have a pint and take in the atmosphere of a historic pub while in London. You feel like you took a trip back in time as soon as you walk through the door. The servers were beyond friendly and the beers were delicious.

Small and crowded, but they were very accommodating allowing several tasters before selecting your pint. Cute outside area, great atmosphere. Fun alley to get through to find it.

Coming from Australia I was looking for a traditional English Pub for dinner and drinks before a show. What an amazing pub,great food, amazing service and incredible atmosphere. Highly recommend!!!

An all time favourite, if you can find it!

The atmosphere was very nice, music and beer; classic English pub. It was also a frequented place by Charles Dickens. It has a history dating back to the 1700s. Definitely spare at least half an hour.

Great experience in what I can only assume was a typical British pub. Had some great beer and good food. It's definitely worth stopping in for a pint or two!

Good pub in covent garden. Small and only worth visiting if you can stand outside. It's a fullers pub, so the beer is decent, but outside of a charming location it's nothing special. Worth popping in.

This is a popular old beer house that will leave a long lasting memory. The fish and chips were delicious, and the Guinness was so good that we each drank two glasses of Guinness. The seats on the first floor were full, so I went to the second floor. The staff on the second floor were very friendly, so I had a drink and left in a very pleasant mood.

Really interesting building, quirky and a great spot for a drink, I wouldn't necessarily recommend it for food but that could be because I chose badly. I just didn't enjoy it. Their specialty is lamb sausages. The issue is they come with chilli sweet potato mash and it just wasn't very nice. And there wasn't much of it if I had liked it! £20, 3 sausages, inedible mash and bit of watercress greenery. The lamb sausages might have been the specialty but I couldn't taste anything because of the burning chilli mash. I don't think it really represented value for money either.

Le pub se trouve dans un coin de rue à deux pas du célèbre Covent Garden et ses halles couvertes. Nous y sommes allés par hasard, en fonction de notre localisation et des avis qui étaient très bons. Nous avons été installés à l'étage et nous avons choisi un fish and chips ainsi qu'une steak and ale pie. Nous avons chacun pris une boisson et une carafe d'eau nous a été apportée. Les plats étaient bien préparés et très bons. Nous n'avons pas pris de dessert. Les plats ont été servis rapidement. La salle est très joliment décorée, le personnel est accueillant et sympathique. Nous en avons eu pour 50 £ environ, ce qui est un peu plus cher que la moyenne mais bon, nous étions dans un "monument" de Londres, donc l'addition grimpe un peu plus vite, service compris. Allez-y assez tôt car les clients affluent vite et ce, dès 18h. Sinon il est toujours possible de réserver une table. Une adresse typique de Londres.

never go there I've been in London for several days and this is the most racist house. It is basic to intentionally not take orders. This is a house where you clean up the food you are eating. Can't speak to the menu though they brown bag crisps which are very nice in my opinion. Beer selection was lovely and although I didn't eat there the food looked good especially the crispy beef & cheddar nuggets. Service is quick and the atmosphere is top notch. Little gem which was good and not too busy by the tourist trap that is covent garden. Worth a visit

excellent service and a nice environment, the only flaw was the food which did not live up to the name, exorbitant price for the two starters and two main courses taken.

We loved our dinner here! The fish and chips were the best ones we had on our entire UK trip and the pan-roasted salmon was so good as well. The upstairs atmosphere felt very cozy and almost like you really could be sitting next to Charles Dickens.

I will say one of the traditional pubs in the uk. The crowd and atmosphere is amazing. The staff are nice. Services were quick. Went during weekdays so not crowded. If you follow the map from Piccadilly or Tottenham court road then the suggested way is a bit confusing and you will pass by smelly garbage which is behind this bar. Nothing related to when you arrive at the pub. So enjoy the pint time and chit chat with your friends/colleagues their. Thank you!

It was the best meal in my trip. I'd like to visit again on my next trip. An older man took the order, he was very nice. On my next visit, I want to enjoy it skillfully and cheerfully in better English. Thanks for the delicious food and kindness.

Loved this pub since the 1980s. Always try to drop in when I'm back in London. Excellent vertical drinking outside in the summer.

True British pub experience not to be missed! But hard to locate, tucked away in an alley, but worth the exploration to find it! Lot of history associated with it too, including Charles Dickens! Try the bangers and mashed! And the true apple cider adult beverage! Worth the try!

Very friendly staff and a very nice cafe

I went there in mid-July. It was very hot inside because there was no air conditioning. I went without a reservation. We ate on the second floor without waiting and the female server was really friendly. The food wasn't very tasty, but it was okay.

We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves at the Lamb and Flag twice over 3 days. Once for dinner and once for Sunday roast. Food was delicious and we had outstanding service from Hannah. She was a joy and helped us so much. Definitely recommend this iconic spot. Pork Sunday roast highly recommended. Fish and chips scrumptious.

Superb beer, great pub and location

An old favourite, I always try to get to this pub when I'm in London. Tucked away in a tiny street off the beaten track in the Covent Garden area of London, this pub is a gem.
