Lakeside Chippy in Cheltenham

Has a small fish and chips absolutely gorgeous the batter was crispy and the fish was nice and moist the chips were lovely as well. Highly recommend them nice friendly staff.

Wow… what a great find! We tried Lakeside for a Friday night Fish & Chip treat for my birthday. Having looked at the Google rating and reviews I decided that this may be a good option being closer to us than some of the other Fish & Chip takeaways in the Cheltenham area. I called ahead to ask if a pre-order was possible and had a very cheery and professional lady take my order for collection 15 minutes later. Upon arrival there was a huge queue stretching out of the door which to me was a great sign of what we could expect for our fish supper. As I made my way to the counter to explain that I had a pre-order everyone else was chatting about the quality of the offerings from this shop. As I waited I noticed that the ‘Fryer Man’ was asking people in the queue if they needed anything cooking as they moved down the line. I thought this was a great touch and ensured less waiting in the long run. I gave the lady my order number and she proceeded to make my order up there and then… no sitting in a bag getting soggy here! After paying a very reasonable amount for three fish and chips plus trimmings we were in for a great treat. The haddock was amazing, crispy batter and such tasty fish inside. We ordered two large chips between us and they were huge and really yummy. Mushy peas and curry sauce were also top notch! All in all, amazing quality, super service with very friendly and efficient staff… such a great find in the Hatherley locality… go there… you won’t be disappointed. We will be using Lakeside as our go to Fish & Chip shop now! Thank You! 🤩

Every now and again we pop to Lakeside for a treat. On Friday early evening the place was full of customers. There were plenty of staff serving so the queue moved quickly. We ordered 3 mini cod portions and a regular portion of chips. By the time we left, the queue was outside the door - that's how popular Lakeside is. The cod and chips were as good as ever. The batter was thin and crisp, the cod flesh was pure white and the chips were not greasy. The portion sizes were generous and prices very reasonable. Highly recommended!

Have only visited here twice having recently moved to the area and this was recommended to me. Food on both occasions has been absolutely outstanding, possibly some of the best I have ever had from a fish and chip shop. The thing that impressed me the most is the guy, I can only assume he is the owner. Literally everyone who came in the door was greeted and treated like a long standing friend. New or a faithful regular, you are treated and greeted like a friend and as such, you are only served the very best of the best! Truly one of life’s rare but precious gems!

When on holiday, I travelled 20 minutes to get to this chip shop and I wasn't disappointed. The main reason for visiting was for the gluten free menu. The chips were really nice and the portions were generous. The gluten free batter was lovely and light too. They double checked the order and the staff were really friendly. Would definitely recommend this chip shop if visiting the area.

Great Fish & Chips shops. A little hidden away but very popular with the locals. Expect to be waiting in a queue at peak times on a Friday or weekend!

Visiting Cheltenham, I was told Lakeside is the best fish and chips in town. I've not tried all the available options, but I can confirm that any competitor would have to be going some to be better. Staff are friendly, happy to chat and banter, the fish and chips is very good, not too oily, tasty and fresh, reasonably priced and with good portion sizes. Don't take my word for it though, go along and try it for yourself🙏

We needed to try a different chippy, so came a bit further than most. Busy time 6.30, 10 in the queue and 4 waiting (after ordering). Chap behind says he's been coming 20 years and the boss has been here 9 years. Cooked to order, fresh, crispy, hot well cooked fish, without being overcooked. I was very impressed. I shall come again.

Excellent chippy, gluten free options were great and the staff were very helpful and friendly. Chips great and batter perfect. 1 mark dropped for the fluorescent and oddly sweet tasting mushy peas, but otherwise highly recommended .

Ordered 2 large battered sausages a large cod large chips and 2 pickled eggs. Sausages were raw, chips hardly fed 2 people and completely forgot the eggs.

I went on a Wednesday and ordered a quarter pound burger and large chips. The burger would of been one of the best burgers I have ever had from a chippy. However, the chips were dry and tasteless. I asked for salt and vinegar on my chips but barely got any. The service and atmosphere was great at the business. Hoping it was just a one off hahaha!!!!

Best Fish and chips in Cheltenham. Gluten and dairy free is always a saviour. If you don’t live near Call up to order and collect. Feeds 2 of us for under £20 every time and leaves a smile both our faces and our bellies. All Staff work tirelessly. Will see you next week.

I ordered small sausage and chips and when I got the sausage I was amazed how actually small it was.I asked for salt and vinegar and OMG I think I might have a heart attack with all the salt on my chips.Not happy at all.

Many thanks to Lakeside Takeaway, used them to feed a hungry army of children at our party just round the corner, food excellent, well received by all, and to top it off delivery as well. I've been up and down the country going to all sorts of places and no one shop has managed to beat Lakesides' chips. I attend religiously to this great place. You meet great characters not only behind the counter but the front as well.

I’ve lived in this area all my life & always shopped for fish n chips elsewhere until the current owners took over several years ago. Now I wouldn’t dream of shopping elsewhere for fish n chips in Cheltenham. After 40 years of avoiding this chip shop they are now without a doubt the best chippy in the town.

This is a real gem of a place. Proper fish and chips, decent prices that won't break the bank and excellent friendly service. The fish is always a good size portion, with tasty crispy batter and perfectly cooked chunky pieces of cod, the chips are always good and the curry sauce is very much to my liking. If you want good fish and chips you won't find much better in Cheltenham.

I would rate this as not only the best fish n chip shop in Cheltenham but the best one I have ever been to, and I have had chips from Scotland down to Cornwall and most places in between at one time or another. Staff are always friendly and helpful, great menu with lots of choice.

It has been to long time for a meal from the Lake Side .. The fish was and is the best in Cheltenham.. If and it was a regular fish I had the large must be a Whale ( not Cod) . And the chips where very good too.. Must go again soon...
