We had an excellent Greek style meal here last week - Spanakopita (spinach and feta pie with filo pastry), salad, coleslaw and hot potato salad. It was on the specials board and was delicious. We come here regularly as there is always something on the menu that suits everyone. Staff very friendly. We’ll be back!

First time trying this place. Staff pleasant enough and a nice place, but way overpriced. £ 12 for a cheese burger and chips, not even big portions. I won't be going again.

Been here a few times for breakfast. Always quick and friendly service and get your moneys worth with food. Lovely outdoor area to eat when weathers good. Only reason I give 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the opening hours, there is a bar here but it shuts at 5pm on a Saturday which seemed strange when the weathers so good, especially with their amount of outdoor seating nd the fact it’s the only place to get a drink within walking distance of many of the houses in the village

Absolutely no customer service, extremely overpriced and all is blamed on covid.Paying over the odds for a 3 piece breakfast and a coffee for can be justified when the customer service is up to par and in a lot of places expected, when the venue has a view or nice outside, unfortunately we have been let down massively. The covid signing in is a shambles and seemingly exasperated by a server with memory loss which made the constant asking really annoying, the extra cost is then blamed on covid and ppe and training, if we could have only seen a hint of that! In my opinion they are trying to claw as much out of customers as possible before the season is indoor only which is disgusting. Having worked in the hospitality industry for decades this place is in no way worth more than one star. The staff need training and ongoing mentoring to turn the corner on this. I am willing to come back if they are willing to massively change their tune if not then the small sandwich shop has better customer service and better prices. Or try Wessons down the road where you can take another person for brekky the prices they charge, and service and friendliness is 100%better.

We've been to the Lakeside cafe a few times when camping at Horam manor Campsite. We usually get breakfast here at least once. The setting is lovely, overlooking a fishing lake with seating outside if you are so inclined. There's also a small children's play area. Inside, it's cheap 'n' cheerful with much of the old barn charm about it. Dog friendly and enough space around tables for our party's three dogs to not be a nuisance. The breakfast menu is fairly limited to pancakes, waffles or cooked breakfast - which comes in variations based on how many items you want. The coffee is not great! The food is ok.We recently visited for Sunday lunch which is essentially a carvery. The meat was amazing, locally sourced from a butcher with some amazing gravy action going on. Unfortunately that is about where the praise ends. The roast potatoes looked suspiciously like they were frozen, pre-cooked "Aunt Bessie's" and the Yorkshire puddings the same. That's just a big no-no in my book, no excuses. At £14 a head I expect proper roast potatoes.

Lovely cafe with a nice view of the lake. Lovely food too. Only thing I think would be an added asset is more vegan options, there is 500 vegans in Hailsham and surrounding areas and this could be a nice place to come on a regular basis for me and other vegans or dairy intolerance. Example a vegan breakfast could be a hash brown, vegan sausage, etc and lattes offered with oat or soya milk. A vegan burger option would be great too as would like to come to dinner on a Saturday evening.

First visit to cafe itself and not disappointed.Rather restricted menu unless you are a lover of burgers - that seems to be the rage most places you go. If there before midday then there other items available.Hot and cold drinks available, plus items from the bar.Plenty of inside seating and outside as well Down below is a lake handy for those wishing to pass the time fishing.Prices are a bit higher than expected, but there's no competition and overall it's a nice spot

Booked for Sunday lunch while staying at the nearby campsite - 16 of us! 14 of us chose the carvery and we weren't disappointed. We eat out frequently but this was by far the tastiest, tender meat we've had in a long time. Other meals chosen were good and puddings fab. Only slight disappointment was frozen roast potatoes but the rest more than made up for it. I don't like eating outside, it was a very warm day so we sat just inside near the door. There was a rack with dirty crockery waiting to be washed and this attracted flies. The window cill next to the table had out of date "what's on in the area" leaflets as well as a lot of debris and in the left hand corner hanging down was a spiders web. We both had a decaf coffee and waited a long time for the harvest chicken. The waitress dropped some of my salad on the floor as the plates were coming from the kitchen. The chips served in a pot were soggy, they are usually crisp. The chicken consisted of very thin slices of "watery" chicken coated with a burnt coating of maybe breadcrumbs not entirely sure if they were breadcrumbs. On top of this was a rasher of bacon that needed more cooking and a horrible cheese covering, we did not have the bbq sauce.I left most of my lunch but at no time did anyone enquire if the meal was ok or was there a problem with mine.We did not have any cakes etc but noticed that these were in an open fronted case and in the heat would I expect be dried out. They were not busy on this day at this time. The boss man was walking around with another male talking loudly and did not seem interested in the few customers, this was left to the two young girls. The place needs a jolly good clean and a new extractor to get rid of the greasy smell.I cant see us going back, we are local about two miles away. We have only just started going back and wondered if things had improved but obviously not.We spent £26 and I would rather have given this to "another charity".

Cooked to perfection & very reasonably priced. We returned for dinner after a bike ride.. Again - delicious. And the next morning.... More breakfast...The staff were patient helpful & friendly. There is a little well stocked & immaculate bar & deli goodies to buy, as well as decent ice cream & pick and mix for the sweet toothed. We really can't fault the place. Lovely setting, cannot fault sitting outside looking over the lake. The inside of the barn is lovely too, done out very well. Food wise - I'm not sure. They serve food all day but not an all day breakfast. When my mother asked to make her own breakfast they said they didn't do that and had stopped serving breakfast. Fair enough, it was after 12pm. However when my partner asked for a breakfast roll with sausage, egg and bacon this was fine?!We were confused if you could have a breakfast roll why couldn't we have a breakfast. Staff were OK slight slow on the uptake, did provide us with a chuckle when asked if we would like cutlery with our beans on toast. Overall I wouldn't return, I feel there are other places which I would prefer to attend.

Went with my husband and 2 boys (age 9&11). The choice of food was much better than you'd expect from the outside and cover lunch and dinner selections. The portion sizes are good and reasonably priced. My pulled pork burger was really tasty and my husband said his scorcher burger actually had some heat to it. Top this all of with very friendly staff and a 5*hygiene rating and you'll find it a worthy refuelling point

Visited 3 times, once for snack, one Sunday Carvery and one midweek lunch. All very good.Carvery - meat was cooked superbly and veggies served in hot separate dishes with plenty of roast pots and homemade gravy. Nice bottle of Merlot reasonably priced. Harvey's beer on drought was nice surprise !Midweek lunch - disaster Harvey's drunk dry on Sunday - barman assures me extra ordered in future. Extensive menu - had the panini sausage and onion - well cooked and very tasty. OH had mozerella, tomato and pesto panini equally good. Staff very helpful and smiling. We'll definitely be back.

The Lakeside Cafe looks a bit scruffy and untidy on the outside but has a charm of its own once over the doorstep. The staff were friendly, the menu is extensive with a small 'posh nosh' section. They serve wines and beers as well. The emphasis is on snacks and light meals, burgers, baguettes, sandwiches etc. Our lunch was excellent and very reasonably priced. They are open for breakfast as well. Apart from a Sunday Carvery, they don't have a 'lunch menu' as such but what they do offer is plentiful, nicely cooked and presented.

We went here for Sunday Carvery. The food was fine, although nothing special and not particularly cheap at nearly £10 for one course. Vegetables were served in individual portions, could have done with more. Not much atmosphere. Could have done with table clothes to make it a little smarter.Didn't like the fact that I was asked to hand over my credit card as soon as I sat down. When I queried this I was told some people had 'done a runner'. Definitely room for improvement. Is probably better in the summer when you can sit outside, so would be ideal for families on a sunny day.

We have frequented this place for the last few months with our cycling club. Today was the last straw, the management are clearly doing really well and happy to bark at customers for asking for a simple egg sandwich. We will be taking our cycling club elsewhere from now on. A very bad attitude indeed.

Opted here to meet up with my parents for a cuppa and catch up whilst they were in the area.Decided to eat whilst here....sullen girl behind the counter didn't say hello or welcome us. Didn't offer to explain what breakfast options available. Failed to inform us that toast was an extra charge.Food was lukewarm at best. Sausage was poor quality...obviously more breadcrumb content than meat. Toast was cold and covered in margarine. Barn was cold and they decided to leave the doors wide open whilst bringing in deliveries which meant a cold draft went right around us.Won't be revisiting.

We regularly stop for a snack and hot drink after my daughter rides next door. Martin and his team are welcoming and adaptable, and will cater for all fussy eaters and diets! We have eaten there many times and will continue to patronise this café,

We popped in here at the end of a Sunday afternoon, just after the rain had stopped. We fancied some cream tea.Service was very polite but a little slow (we had nearly finished our tea before the scones arrived). The scone was nice and plenty of cream and jam.My daughters milkshake was however more milk than flavour, which was s little disappointing. All in all a 3 out of 5 experience.

Visited here several times while staying at the campsite. Always very welcoming and the children really enjoyed the mini assault course. Food was tasty and reasonably priced, although would be nice to see homemade burgers. Alcohol a little on the pricey side. Would definately recommend to others

Being a bit of a Sunday roast connoisseur I’d heard good things about this pubs Sunday roasts! Booked it up (recommended) and had the three meat roast! Way too much for me BUT oh my god was it delicious. The meat was melt in mouth, Roasted potatoes just right, all homemade and with the biggest Yorkshire pudding I’ve had. The gravy stole the show, it was delicious and I’d love to know how they made it taste sooooo good! 10/10 (my first ever) I’ll be back for sure!

First visit for us to The Wheel Inn. We went there for lunch and we were not disappointed. The burgers were so good. The flavours were great, the beef was perfect and the portion size was just right. My wife had the steak which was cooked perfectly. Staff were super friendly and attentive. Everything was very reasonably priced too. All round great pub with great food and lovely staff.

We were looking for a place to have coffee and cake after Michelham Priory house and garden visit. We discovered this lively and quirky tea garden. It was very busy with groups of families and friends. It was organised and provided a friendly service.
