Lake Yard in Poole

It's been a few years and this lovely Harbour side restaurant is now a Members' Club. However, if you have business in the Marina - Elliot Brown in my case - you can get a guest ticket. I think at other times if they are not too busy you could possibly eat here. Anyway, great situation. Good service and an extensive Menue. On this occasion I opted for the Ploughmans, delicious and all the ingredients were really fresh, but on WHITE Bread? The Americano with cold milk was superb. Sometimes an excuse for an average Coffee. Not here. Great Ice Cream for Dessert and another Coffee - Macciato this time. Hayling Seagoon

I visited on a Tuesday and then The following Thursday . I ordered the same dish sea bass. Tuesday dinner was lovely. Thursday dish was completely different with cold raw tomatoes and capers. Dry the food is not consistent which is probably why it is not busy for food. Such a shame as a lovely location and fab staff

Great location and vista, efficient and friendly waitress but dreadful food! Pancakes were cremated and my fried egg was so hard it had clearly sat on the plate for an age.The chef has clearly not an ounce of pride in what they are producing. My family has enjoyed lunch and dinner here previously but we would categorically not come for breakfast again. At best it could be described as mediocre.

Great friendly place to catch up with friends. Lovely selection of coffee, teas and drinks. Friendly service and a warm welcome.

I came here with some friends who are currently members, the food and the place itself was nice enough but the staff and management need some major adjustments. All the staff behind the bar were definitely underage, there was only one member of staff that looked over the age of 14! They all had a scent of alcohol and cigarettes which is very unprofessional in my opinion, especially as an exclusive place which is members only! Also a side note, the staff should not be moaning about their managers and coworkers when there are customers in earshot! Although I heard one member of staff saying they had worked a 12 hour shift with no break and I’m sure this is illegal so will not be returning which is unfortunate because I did really enjoy the food

I join as member thinking it would be a nice place to go for lunch with my boat. The membership costed £100.00 a year. They have a very small capacity because of shortage of staff. Every time I tried to book, they have no capacity. Food is average and service is OK. The young staff do try hard to please. Don't pay to join as member. Andrew from Poole

Having read on Trip is Advisor that visitors were welcome we arrived at Lake Yard for dinner. We were advised by a young man who came to meet us at the door that it was a members only club and that we could not eat there. All this was stated in a rather rude manner.

Luckily we are within walking distance of Lake Yard . What a fantastic place. Sitting in their restuarant right by the water you have one of the best views in Poole. We had a fantastic meal 2 nights ago. A special mention for the belly pork with black pudding bon bons and black garlic mash! Couldn't quite manage a desert but the Calypso Coffees were wonderful. The service as ever was faultless. The staff are so friendly and basically are very good at their job. There is a wonderful relaxed atmosphere there too and they have a lovely bar if you just want a drink. We often pop in for coffee after walking the dog but will definitely be going back again soon for dinner.

Such a wonderful afternoon spent with family to celebrate Father’s Day. The food, setting and service was fantastic. Thank you for making this a memorable day for myself and my family

Had dinner here with friends on a table of four. There is an under cover decking area which was ideal for outdoor eating, with heaters for when the sun went down. Great service and well prepared food. Its actually in the boatyard so the restaurant is not visible from the road. Need to book.

We went here as it was recommended, the view was amazing as was the food. I had the Mussels with the Thai sauce which were one of the best I have had. The staff were polite and the service was really good. The one way system is good as is the social distancing.

Very nice evening with old friends. Great burgers and one said best ever moules mariniere ! Has a nice and relaxed atmosphere and was able to take the dog who sat under the table. Staff very attentive and friendly

My £9 Delicatessen sandwich featuring warmed chicken breast and local charcuterie in fact had zero chicken and tbh a bit stingy on the other bits. I didn't complain at the time, I thought I'd miss-read the menu until I took a look on the way out. Disappointed with myself, but also the Lake Yard. The sweet potato fries were first class. The Staff were charming and the venue has served good food in the past. What happened guys...

As locals we often visit here at lunchtime or for coffees . Service and food is good. However they do not offer non dairy alternatives for hot drinks . I visited a few weeks ago and they also had run out of earl grey tea . So had to settle for Hot water and slice lemon . They need to get with the times , I am sure I am bot the only person who wants a latte with non dairy milk

I have been a number of times, and the lake yard always delivers a consistent service and good food at a reasonable price, considering the location. The Thai mussels are a good addition to the menu

A pleasant evening was had at Lakeyard. Customers must be aware before they order that there are separate prices for members and non members about £1.50 per dish. For starters we had Tapas Salt cod croquettes, medallions of beef and Spicey chicken all very good. Main course 3 delicious burgers all well cooked and a very nice whole lemon sole. All with good fries and fresh salad. Sadly dessert was not as good, Lemon tart-over thick and under cooked pastry. Although chocolate brownie was quite nice. Service was lacking.

After the razzmatazz of Christmas , you will find this restaurant an oasis of calm . The food is the usual high standard and served in a pleasant manner

Went to this place for lunch prices at bit high bu assume because of the yachties and apartments on the mariner one has to pay for the privalage my wifw had sea bass which was quiet small and i had sausages and mash 12.95 TWO SAUSAGES ON A SMALL CIRCLE OF MASH AND A FEW SPRIGES OF BROCOLI. desert sticky sponge with a blob of ice cream 7.50 thats more than some of the good grub ressies in the area All in all i think i will give it a miss.One questuon i have how do think 15 quid for a hamberger is exceptable

This off the beaten track is one of our favourite places in Poole to eat and/or drink. Fantastic boat side view over Poole Harbour and plenty of free parking. It's a convivial spot to bring friends for lunch. The service is good and the prices are reasonable.

Our second visit what a disappointment. Service very very slow, waited over an hour for our food, no explanation. Dissatisfied with Quality of Fish and Chips, batter was soggy not crispy. Told the waitress, her response was "I'll let the chef know". I hope she did. Rib eye steak was tough. Gave up waiting to be asked what we would like to drink . . .ended up going to the bar. Needless to say will not be rushing back anytime soon. Staff should be encouraged to smile more and be customer friendly.

The food was excellent, the tapas is good for a starter and the tempura prawns were also good. The lamb for the main course with the minted mash was lovely. The service was quick and the staff were attentive

Tapas starters were very good. Salmon linguine had an inch of oil in the bowl. When I notified the waitress she said it was supposed to be like it. I DONT THINK SO!

Do you want a Summer Treat ? Visit this interesting boatyard ! A pleasant , relaxing atmosphere with attentive staff .An excellent menu ,carefully cooked ,with the emphasis on sea food .

This was the second visit in about a month. Friendly meeting, shown to table and offered drinks immediately. Orders taken and enjoyed drinks. First course was enjoyed, and table cleared, and we waited, and waited, and about 25 mins later we asked how the order was going and after a check with the kitchen, we were told it was being plated. 3 plates arrived shortly afterwards. The men were served first, and one of the two females theirs. When the last plate arrived we were asked if any one wanted any sauces, although only one person had a knife, we had to ask for cutlery. Despite it being obvious if any one looked, we were asked how many lives and forks were needed, and then they arrived. The main course was alright, crab was very moist, and both of us needed to take care with the bits of shell in the crab meat, which had not been carefully dressed. When we had finished, we waited at least 30 mins before anyone came and took our plates away, and we had to ask after that for a dessert menu. Overall, very slow and inattentive service, and it had not improved since the last time we were there, when we made comment to the management, who apologised. This time the management said they had 5 new staff, who need trains, and we certainly concur with this assessment.

Regularly visit lake with friends and colleagues for either socials or business meetings. Both occasions are very well catered for. The food is always top notch with lots of locally caught fish on the menu. The beers are fantastic and I challenge anyone to find a better guiness in the area.

We took my seafood loving mother to Lake Yard for lunch and had a first class meal. The service was spot on and the food was really excellent. We shared a plate of calamari as a starter which was superb and a generous serving. My chicken and chorizo risotto was magnificent and the pint of London Pride that accompanied it, in prime condition. Of course the view out on Poole Harbour provided a perfect setting. Highly recommended.

The waitress Had to be flagged down after being seated for 40 minutes,luckily had gone to the bar for bottles of wine.

Great young vibrant team that serve you. Food excellent and deputy Manager always makes us feel welcome...along with the Manager. Met my husband here 4 years ago do makes this venue even more special plus our kids love it here too x ❤

Tried to eat here twice over the half-term break after eating here 8 months ago and enjoying it.

Just popped in as I'm traveling the South of England over a two week period and I thought I would try this place as I have tried the surrounding pubs over the last few days...the reviews of the place took my fancy. The setting and clubhouse itself was absolutely sublime and I was greeted in the kindest of manners by the lake yard staff. I ordered a seabass dish for my main and the portions were great! The staff offered me deserts to my delight and I indulged in a sticky toffee pudding which was astonishing! definitely worth the money. In my opinion this is my favourite restaurant in the Poole area. Not one thing I could fault. Well done lake yard staff!

Lake Yard is a good restaurant in the marina with sea views. Good selection of food and drinks. A bit more focus on the service would make it excellent!

We had a large table yesterday for 17 and Lake Yard treated us all superbly! We have been going there for a large family do once a year for a few years now and I have always meant to write reviews before. I have always spoken highly of the restaurant and recommended it to others and so have other family members but this time I wanted to defiantly make time to write a review on here as it was so well deserved!

heard great things about the food at this restaurant so decided to try it yesterday. how very disappointing.

A friend recommended this place to my wife. I bit difficult to find but once we did we enjoyed a lovely coffee. Views and atmosphere of the place impressed us. Will try it again for lunch sometime.

Superb evening with friends, staff fresh and young and full of smiles. A real nice warm feeling here. We have also become members.

We arrived in torrential rain and gale force winds so we couldn’t appreciate the view across the harbour. However the venue was attractive and welcoming with a busy bar area. Tables were well spaced.

Friendly, cheerful, helpful staff. Coffee came with a tasty mini pastry. Weather good so sat outside, option of open or under cover.

We enjoyed a lovely meal in beautiful surroundings to celebrate an 80th birthday. The meal was well presented and we were served by efficient and friendly staff.

Lovely location but sadly spoilt by indifferent staff.... the day we visited it was 25% occupied yet when we asked for a table we were told they weren’t sure they could accommodate us..... eventually we were seated. Then menu has a good variety of dishes, we had a burger (ok) and a Mediterranean sandwich (awful..... mixed leaves, one bit of tomato and an olive!!!) very different to the descriptions on the menu.... in summary, lovely location, very indifferent staff and mixed food. Very hit and miss.... and leave the sandwiches!

Food was quite good and reasonably priced. Table was prebooked for our large party but we felt relatively rushed at times. Service was good but some of staff are less than engaging. Wouldn’t not go back but wouldn’t rush to do so either.

Our second visit to this lovely restaurant. The first so I could collect my Elliot Brown watch, the second for new battery to be fitted.

We sat outside as we love the view. The tempura prawns were the best we’ve ever tasted- you’ve got to try them. Everyone enjoyed their meals. It was a wet and windy day so the summer dress I’d packed to wear had to be swapped for casual clothes. This didn’t matter as there is a comfortable relaxed vibe. Can’t wait to go back.

My review relates to my visit last year but I am still that aggrieved that I am going to leave this review now. I ordered the roast beef which IIRC was around £15/£16 to only be given one of the smallest slithers of beef imaginable. I called over a waitress and mentioned the portion size to which I was told sorry the kitchen has run out of beef. No offer of an alternative meat, no offer of a discount, no apology, I left extremely disappointed and felt totally ripped off. I won't be returning.

We were on holiday visiting friends in area. When we arrived we were asked if we had booked and were given impression we were lucky they had a table for us without booking! It turned out that there was quite a few tables available during our time there. Staff were friendly and our orders were taken quite quickly but we waited quite a while for food although this was probably so we could all eat together. Food was quite nice but I was disappointed with my prawn sandwich, bread was very dry around the crust and prawns were tasteless which for the price was very disappointing. Having said that everyone else said there food was nice.

We went on a weekend, attracted by a tapas menu that turned out to be available only on weekdays. Lucky mistake. My weekend roast beef was classic, and the other 3 were equally happy with their choices. Attentive, but friendly and casual service, orders taken and requests carefully listened to and passed on to the kitchen. Great meal, great service. Not budget, but overall good value. Thanks.

After finding that the 2 restaurants near to our hotel were fully booked we spent ages looking online for somewhere to eat in the evening and came across The Lake Yard.

Although this is part of a marina and functions as a club, the general public are welcome as well, albeit without the members' discount. Four of us had dinner here on two successive evenings and had superb cuisine on both occasions. The stone bass was as good a fish dish as I can ever remember and the steak the following evening was excellent too. The setting overlooking Poole Harbour was very pleasant and the service was friendly and efficient. A real gem in suburban Poole.

Ive been visiting the lakeyard sporadically for a number of years, every visit hoping they will improve and get it right. Unfortunately it just gets worse leading me to write my first ever review in desperation. Last night we couldnt order starters as the kitchen was closing (2040hrs), the sirloin steaks were all very overcooked and very expensive. The additional ‘King Prawns’ cost £6 and consisted of 3 small king prawns in a bowl.

Stopped here for an over night stop with our boat and was looking a good choice to begin with but all came apparent very quickly.

Whilst sailing around the Solent we decided to pull in to Lake Yard Marina for the night. We managed to get a finger walk ashore berth which was very handy. The cost for this was extremely expensive given that that facilities were very poor. One shower, one toilet, 2 sinks all of which were contained within a cubicle no bigger than a broom cupboard (a slight exaggeration but you get my drift). A nice little marina but shockingly woeful facilities for the price.

The Lake Yard marina is situated at the north western end of Poole Harbour and has uninterrupted views from its generous patio area right across to Brownsea, Arne and the Wareham Channel. The patio is secluded from cross breezes so is a real sun trap. The main bar features a wide range of ales and ciders as well as robust selection of wines to suit any budget. The food is well matched to the location: there's plenty of fresh seafood and all courses are tasty and well presented. There's always plenty of seasonal specials, often featuring locally caught fish, and prices are consummate with the location and clientele without being extortionate (as they can so often be in eateries this close to the harbour). Staff were cheery, informative and patient and happily accommodated us at short notice even though they were obviously busy (I would recommend booking as the Lake Yard is used by both members and non-members of the marina and can get very busy especially on warm, sunny days). The decor is, as you would expect, nautical with wooden floors and boating regalia; photographs of the marina's owners in their powerboat racing heyday adorn the walls but there's nothing contrived or gimmicky. All-in-all, I can thoroughly recommend Lake Yard for a special dining experience or simply to chew the fat over a couple of pints whilst staring at that view.

Highly recommended so decided to lunch here. The only reason I’ve marked a four instead of five star is the slow service. When it arrived, the service was friendly and informative, The location is just great on a sunny day - not sure about winter months but would try. I may moan about the wait but...... the food was exceptional - try the tapas!!! Superb!

We dined at Lake Yard on a Wednesday evening. The restaurant was fairly busy, including some people sitting outside. The staff were very pleasant, professional and attentive, and the meal - I had lemon sole, my wife had chicken in tarragon sauce - was first class. I would definitely recommend Lake Yard.

Visit tonight and it was great. Atmosphere was great as usual. Staff were friendly and attentive. The food was so good, cooked to perfection, hot and fresh. Hoping to work my way through the whole of the menu.

We have visited before and on a glorious spring day we went for lunch with family. There is a brand new menu and also a new fab outside covered eating area. Service as usual was excellent and we had mostly sandwiches which are mighty and...

We went on a Saturday with friends for a birthday lunch. It was our first visit and we were very impressed by both the location and the general ambience. The food was to a very high standard and the staff were welcoming and attentive. I had chicken saltimbocca which was very good but as it is served 'stacked' it doesn't come with much veg. Luckily my partner had steak with a generous serving of chips which he was willing to share. We would definitely go back again.

I just rang to make a booking for my birthday. When I told the guy on the phone I wanted to book for 15 people he almost laughed! He then went on to say 'well we already have a table of 20 that night anyway' he then put me on hold to check upstairs if we would fit. After a wait he came back and advised me to put my request on an email to them!? He didn't even offer me the email address, he just said oh it's on our website. This is a great shame as most of my family are members with them and visit regularly. I guess they are far to busy for my business! Also be carful with payment, one of my family members have been accused of not paying the bill when indeed they had.

Wonderful friendly service and great tasty

We were lucky enough to visit The Lake Yard for lunch with friends at the weekend via their boat, however you can access via the road. My wife had the cod and chips which she said were excellent and the rest of us plumped for the tapas selection. We had 8 different ones (meat, fish and veg) and we all agreed that they were some of the best we had ever had.

It's been a while but once more we turned up in the boat on spec and were lucky enough to be given a berth.

The setting is literally in a working boat yard. The informal setting combined with a pleasant eating area, good stocked bar, good service and quality food makes this a great venue for most occasions.

My first visit to Lake Yard. Friends took me for a belated birthday lunch. The food was stunningly good. Great fish dishes. I just need to hone my skills at eating whole fish off the bone. Willing to try. I will be back! Thank you for lovely meal whilst the rain came down. Might see the view next time? Big thank you to friendly staff too.

Ate here last year and it was amazing in every way. The Food yesterday was average but the service was very poor. The staff were very disinterested in our table. The restaurant wasn't busy either!

Our family of 6 all visited Lake Yard for dinner this evening and we left disappointed. The food was lovely, we can't really fault it but the service was terrible. We felt like we had been dumped outside in a tent, in the cold and when the 'members' diners in the restaurant felt the cold they closed the door on us. When we came to pay we advised that we felt this way and mentioned how cold it was and the response who got was 'Oh'.We won't be visiting again. Wouldn't recommend this place if you're not a member.

My friends and I researched seafood restaurants in the area and decided to book the Lake Yard. The friendly staff greeted us at the door and showed us to our table by the patio area. The starters were wonderful. My friend and I had the mussels and they were to die for and the men choose a trio of fish starters which again were lovely and the dressing on the salad divine. My friend and I shared a starter for mains battered prawns with chips and the boys choose lemon sole and sea bream.we shared a banofee pie between 4 of us. The food was sublime. After our meal we moved onto the patio which is on the marina and watched the boats coming and going. What a lovely time we had. Thank you

Lake Yard is a terrific place for a drink, for a meal, or simply to relax with a newspaper. The location is very pretty, overlooking part of Poole Harbour at Hamworthy, and you don't need to be a member of the boat club to go there. Staff are friendly and the service waiting time reasonable for the high standard of freshly cooked produce offered. The specialities are fish dishes, but the steaks and burgers are equally superb. The bar has a good choice of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks and the ambiance is always enjoyable. Be sure to watch out for special evenings such as the jazz nights and the happy hour every Friday, and remember to book for dinner as it's very popular.

My partner and I love this place. The location is amazing and on a warm sunny day there is no better place to chill and read the Sunday papers! They are always busy so it is best to book but you won't be disappointed. The fish is lovely and if you prefer a light lunch, the sandwiches are good. We will definitely keep returning

We booked the restaurant in advance for a birthday party lunch , 46 in all. We ordered from a suggested menu in advance and received an estimate cost. Everything was perfect. Seonagh had done a super table map over a chart of Poole harbour. We had Pimms and canapés on arrival. The food was superb and everyone enjoyed it and said so. The service was terrific , lovely helpers with smiles , nothing was too much trouble. It took all the angst out of arranging a special do. Alastair the chef was highly praised.the choices were: chicken Saltambocca , sea bass, grilled hallumi asparagus salad. Followed by pavlova, profiteroles or cheese. Absolutely fabulous . The restaurant opens to members and non members. The setting is amazing with views to Arne. I recommend this restaurant without reservation

Title says it all. Booked for friends birthday and we were not let down. Very relaxed evening. Food was lovely, good menu and loads of choice. Staff were really friendly and looked after us. Beautiful view of the harbour. I would not hesitate to recommend this place and can't wait to go back.

We go here quite often as it is a hidden gem, the fish is always excellent and the scenery / vibe of the place is amazing. Love it!

Have been a member at Lake yard for two and a half years and drink there every day.The staff are wonderful and the crowd great fun . The food is up and down depending on who is in the kitchen at the time .The location and view from the restaurant and bar are fantastic and it is wonderful to sit in the sun on the quayside and watch the setting sun.

Ok here we go, i suppose i should state that this is my absolute favourite restaurant and bar but I will attempt to be unbiased. Go there, eat drink and enjoy, you'll love it.There you are, clear and succinct.

Once again we had a superb lunch. Tapas to start were good and plentiful. The Lemon Sole was the biggest, freshest and best cooked we have eaten in a long time. Unfortunately the hand cooked chips which are usually very good were a bit dry. We asked for a jug of tap water, it came in a very nice re-sealable bottle but........it was Luke warm, definitely not re-filled that day and the bottle was dirty. When we asked for it to be replaced it came in a jug with ice cubes and lemon....perfect, really should be like this from the off. We had a lovely seat in the sun on the terrace but what has happened to the service. There were only 10 people eating but we waited 30 mins for starters and the same for mains. Come on Lakeyard, you can do better, and can someone tell the young girl with the ring through her nose not to use the word Madam in every sentence.

We had an excellent Sunday lunch with good friends. Our fish main courses were very good indeed. The service was first class and all the staff were helpful and friendly. The restaurant has a superb view of Poole Harbour.

We had a family lunch here for 12 people,and we were lucky to get booked on very short noticeIt's a bit concerning when you first drive into the area,we were not sure we had the right place!!Lovely inside,we had a nice lunch,although the service was extremely slow,only 2 waitresses serving the whole restaurant But it was delivered with a smile and very friendly atmosphere

Went for lunch when staying in Poole for long weekend. We had a table outside as it was a lovely sunny day. Lots of choice and daily specials on menu reasonably priced. Everyone in the group enjoyed the food and service was good and friendly. Will definitely return when next in Poole.

A 5 star review may raise expectations, but don't come here expecting Michelin star type food. I'd describe it as approaching fine dining. So why 5 stars? Firstly, we didn't find any restaurant that just cooked and prepared fish so well. Also the atmosphere. - a boat club where visitors are allowed was friendly. No "club members only" vibe here. Then great service. Super view onto the bay. And the food was excellent. I suggest fritto misto followed by sea bream. A very good and short wine list - their choice of Sancerre not one I know, but slightly more restrained and elegant than most.And then the bill. Starters, main and a good bottle of Sancerre: £85 for two. Great.

Have eaten here many times - brunch, lunch and evening meal. Always a fab atmosphere with amazing, gorgeous tasting food. My personal favourite being the squid with a sweet chilli dip.

Had lunch here the other day, what a treat. Simple, but delicious dishes. Friendly, attentive staff who listen and are happy to help. Fab coffee and a gorgeous boat yard feel. Well worth a visit and in the most gorgeous spot on the harbour but away from all the chaos. Fabulous
