We recently enjoyed dining at Armathwaite Hall Hotel and Spa. The hotel has a warm and inviting atmosphere and all the staff were welcoming. We dined in the conservatory overlooking the beautiful gardens and stunning views of the lake. Our meal was delicious and the presentation was fantastic. Our server, Dom was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. Thank you for recommending the irresistible sticky toffee pudding. Overall, we enjoyed a memorable dining experience at an elegant setting. We look forward to returning.

Excellent food and service We went for my birthday meal on 29th March Staff were so friendly and welcoming. Had a cocktail in the cocktail bar, staff made the most beautiful drinks. Meal in the lake view restaurant - staff were welcoming and friendly. The hall is a hidden away gem and very beautiful, the view of the lake on an evening is very special. For our meal we had: Mushroom potage - amuse bouche (to die for). With the most amazing freshly cooked bread rolls Beetroot and feta salad - excellent pallet cleanser Chateaubriand. To share Cooked to perfection. Carved expertly at the table by Alwin. Served with chunky chips, portobello mushroom and sliced tomato. We opted for extra sides of carrots and broccoli (just amazing) and a blue cheese sauce I couldn’t manage a pudding but they sounded devine. Great value for money Throughly recommend a visit A truly excellent place to eat Thank you x

Loved this hotel the restaurants were lovely - the brasserie was quiet but the food - Seabass and fajitas was lovely and the fine dining chateaubriand was excellent including the peppercorn sauce along with the staff. All staff very friendly. We stopped in one of the original rooms which was lovely but a little dated. The spa was very pleasant, however adults seemed like a spend a lot of time drinking in the hot tub and we struggled to sit around due to towels on beds etc. The surroundings are lovely- lots of walks of all types where around the gardens/lake or further a field. My only feedback - please remove the dead palm from the great stairs! You had lovely fresh flower arrangements in most of the rooms but some of the indoor plants need a bit of tlc.

Attended the lakeside restaurant as a non resident (was unable to stay as no rooms for dogs were not available, but that would have been another story). This was a celebration for our Ruby Wedding Anniversary which at 40 years was worth celebrating in Style. My first disappointment was that there were no tablecloths on the table, the brochure portrayed there was. But that aside it was set beautifully Starters of scallops were delicious My lamb was also delicious although a little rare for my liking my taste buds got and education The same could not be said for my husband's seabass which at £28 you should at least expect it to be cooked fully but unfortunately it wasn't When this was pointed out the response was exceptionally disappointing as the chef apparently stated that because of the freshness of thier fish it is often served translucent but when my husband pointed out that it was raw and not translucent to be told it was a matter of taste was exceptionally condescending but it was to be replaced Obviously the chef was not happy and the replacement was served as the server stated "well done" and she was right it was overcooked as since when is fish served well done!!! Obviously rather than create a scene my husband did not complain or tell me till later Dessert for me did not live upto expectation either but was well presented and very tasty This did put a blot on the evening there was some redemption in the fact they presented us with a plate saying happy 40th anniversary with a chocolate each (but I expected that in a 4 star establishment) Coffee was arranged for us in the lounge but left us feeling like second class citizens as we were not resident So thanks but no thanks for helping this be a memorable occasion but for all the wrong reasons. I don't think we will return for future celebrations

I was in charge of booking somewhere for our 5 year anniversary this year and I left it to the last minute. Of course The Lake View Restaurant was fully booked (for the month!) but they put me on a cancellation list and managed to fit us in for a festive Sunday lunch. The whole experience was so special. Perfect for our special occasion. We were greeted with a congratulations upon our arrival and treated to exceptional service and outstanding food. My partner said it was the best beef he has ever had and it was the best seasbass I've ever had. We were taken to the lounge after our desserts and enjoyed hot drinks by the fire - we had to take our mince pies home as could not manage those! We will be recommending Armathwaite Hall to all.

I came here with some colleagues for Afternoon Tea at Christmas. Whilst the afternoon tea was nice, it wasn't amazing, certainly not worth the money. The prices are very expensive and they seem to be going up year after year. You are mainly paying for the location and ambience I think. We got a small free cake as it was one of our birthdays. The staff were friendly.

To be honest, I have never tasted this terrible food. I really don't understand why people gave this much of a score to this restaurant. The view, the atmosphere, and the service are excellent but the food tastes terrible. Tastes really weird... even coffee and sparkling wine taste bad... why? Isn't a good coffee easy to make? How can wine tastes bad? This was the case even when I felt really great and was starving. Never recommend unless you want to save some time to go to another restaurant.

Staff were excellent and location great. We had two salmon starters, 1 feta salad and 1 belly port. These were ok, salad was deemed very good but radish needed more pickling. Main course were not good. The beef was delicious and melted in your mouth but all the veg was badly under cooked and served Luke warm, lamb was arse end of the cut and risotto didn’t resemble risotto. Although tasty again under cooked. We then had Eaton mess and sticky toffee pudding followed by coffee and chocolates. Nobody complained about the puddings and coffee served hot. Staff were good but the main man never asked if we’d enjoyed our meal I wonder why. We mentioned the veg to reception who did they would pass on but I cannot recommend this, place unfortunately. At £180 for four it didn’t offer any value for money :(

Booked Sunday lunch to use a voucher paid for my 60th birthday in the 'lake view restaurant'. Was sat next to a radiator with no view whatsoever. Took 40 minutes to take our order, over an hour for starters. When main course came, cold plate cold veg, sent back. Came back to me with same veg and meal on, but microwaved to within an inch of its life. Sweets poor. Overall over 2 hours spent. Overall experience 1/10

We came here for Afternoon Tea in December but only getting round to reviewing it now. We were seated in the conservatory area which was nice. The selection of food on the afternoon tea was great - all sorts of different things. There was a small portion of prawn cocktail which I was about to give to my friends as I don’t really care for prawns, but I decided to try it and it was lovely. We were even given a free dessert as it was my friends birthday. The price for afternoon tea is on the expensive side, but I guess you are paying for the location too.

Strangely enough, although I have lived in Keswick for 15 years this is a restaurant i have never visited before. However as post shut down ,My favourite hotel restaurant has not yet opened, MY friend and I thought we would give it a go, Ater an aperitif and a look through the menu in the lounge, we were escorted to the dining room which overlooked the lake, We had both ordered the same thing from an understandable limited menu Prawn and crayfish cocktail, which was very good, followed by perfectly cooked rare roast beef which had an excellent flavour and extremely tender served with a nice variety of veggies and of course roast potatoes, , My friend had a pannacotta for dessert whilst i enjoyed apple crumble and custard, We then went back into the lounge and enjoyed coffee. The service throughout was excellent and the staff friendly and efficient, We will definitely be back

We came here for afternoon tea as my lovely colleagues had treat me to a voucher when I left to go on maternity leave. I’d requested a table in the conservatory as there is a nice view over the lake. Unfortunately it was hot that day so even hotter under the glass. The afternoon tea was nice with plenty variation, and it came with unlimited tea or coffee. The staff are excellent - really helpful and friendly. I’m not sure I’d have found it value for money had we paid for it though, as it expensive for what you get.

Came for afternoon tea with my husband’s parents- beautiful views but what a disappointment everything else was. We were shown into a very narrow conservatory and asked if anyone wanted tea or coffee? The waiter spoke very poor English and left us with tea/ no milk and returned with another member of staff and the food. We live in the North East and have enjoyed beautiful afternoon teas at Matfen Hall & Slaley Hall to name just two, and the difference in the food offered at Armathwaite and the price charged was incredible. We each had 3 very small sandwiches- ham, cheese savoury and egg- nothing exciting here, a very small smoked salmon and cream cheese on a biscuit and an equally small minced steak pie. We also had the usual scones but not the usual size - these were to put it politely - tiny. There was then an assortment of cakes. It was a beautiful hot sunny day and unfortunately we were plagued by wasps. This is definitely not one for a return visit.

Family of three . Booked for evening meal. Disorganised generally front of house. Bar staff good, to the right of reception past seating area.Very pleasant amuse bouchée x 2. Homemade bread . Food a bit clever clever i.e. more about appearance than quality. Duck's egg really clever in concept however just in middle of pesto pool. Trout surprised me. Great big clod of undercooked fillet, just like salmon fillet but not good. Dessert rhubarb missing any genuine taste of rhubarb . Cheese selection average and without labelling individual cheeses on platter what is point of telling you on menu? Just a blind tasting session.'Nice coffee and brandy. Wines well priced. Emporer's new clothes venue with chef who cooks for himself not guests. Would not consider going again. It's no good in my opinion. However if you want to say you've been that's ok.

We went for lunch on the advice of a neighbor and we were not disappointed. This is just a few miles off of the A66, and although I originally thought it was a big pretentious, the food cashed the check. Great flavors, perfect portion sizes. Great ambience. My only complaints (and they are small) is the waitress needs more polish because she came off a bit tense and frenzied (and there were only 3 tables to serve) and the table linens had a fairly large stain (clearly washed-in). We also had to pay the bill at hotel reception which was a bit odd if you weren't familiar with that expectation. Still, we highly recommend. We can't wait to return and try dinner.

I made a general enquiry regarding the online offer of the December lunch menu for £26.50. Although I realised this was Christmas themed, the website did not give a sample menu so after my email requesting this I promptly received a reply, always a good sign! I made a reservation for 12.30 and we waited in the lounge and admired the beautiful decorations while perusing the wine menu and taking in the surroundings. We were pleasantly greeted by the staff and our order was taken from the multiple choice menu. We both chose the melon and pineapple starter, minestrone soup, turkey, cheese board and chocolate fondant for dessert. Excellent service from Hugo in the restaurant, very attentive and exceptionally well mannered. I remembered him from an earlier visit for afternoon tea and he truly deserves to be praised. All four course were of high quality and for £26.50 extremely good value. To finish we had coffee and mince pies in the lounge. This is an offer not to be missed, book today !

Enjoyed the afternoon tea but it could be improved by ensuring the service is more attentive (had to gain waiter's attention as he never once came to us). Would have liked to have been asked if we would like more sandwiches. Was then told I would be charged extra for refills of tea - when I spoke with manager he confirmed this had been a mistake as the waiter was training but what a shame I had to ask to speak with him to resolve this. In truth, it was an okay afternoon tea. Sorry, but Sharrow Bay does it so much better.

This year, whilst on holiday, my one of our party celebrated their birthday so I booked a table for six for lunch. When booking, I was asked whether it was to celebrate any special occasion and I mentioned the birthday. The lunch, as usual, was superb. When the desert arrived, a special birthday plate was presented by the Maitre D' much to the surprise and delight of everyone. The whole staff are to be commended for the service, the food was excellent and the ambience is just special. Oh and by the way, the cost of lunch is very reasonable - not much more than you would pay in an ordinary restaurant.

Whilst staying in Windermere we had occasion to celebrate a birthday. So of course, a special event calls for an extra special venue. One such place is Lake View Restaurant at Armathwaite Hall Country House Hotel and Spa, a boutique style hotel tucked away on a secluded edge of Bassenthwaite Lake just past Keswick. At first the location seemed quite remote but it actually turned out to be one of the more appealing features. From our lodgings it required a good fifty minute drive. However, the scenery along the way was stunning and the traffic almost non-existent.Although dinner is served from 7:30pm, we happened to arrive a few minutes early which afforded us the opportunity to take in the spectacular views of the lake and nearby Skiddaw Mountain. Set amid 400 acres of park and woodlands, the place seems a world away from anywhere else.Upon entering this stately 17th century country house, one is struck by its old world charm and traditional ambience. We were attended to immediately and offered pre-dinner drinks in the lounge where a cosy open fire awaited. Preferring to eat straightaway, we declined and were instead ushered to our table in the restaurant. The restaurant is magnificent to say the least – oak panelled walls, high ceilings and a glorious large bay window. Not by any design of our own, we were spoilt by being given arguably the best table in the restaurant - yes, the one in front of the bay window. Our five course dinner was a fixed price of £45.95 per person and while it was perhaps one of the more expensive meals on our UK trip, it was certainly worth every penny. Each course offered a wide and varied selection of dishes, mostly prepared from locally farmed ingredients. There were even a couple of flambé dishes that are cooked in the restaurant (a culinary treat we sadly rarely see these days in high class restaurants). Also on offer was an extensive wine list that would surely satisfy the most ardent of wine lovers. All of our dishes were well portioned and well presented with just the right amount of time between each course. And, needless to say, the wait staff were impeccable. We wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant to any one that truly appreciates fine dining in a more formal atmosphere.

We enjoyed a visit to the botanical gardens & decided to stop in to their cafe /restaurant for a bite to eat I must say that the views were stunning looking out onto the gardens , we were lucky enough to get a table on the veranda where a local choir were singing & it made our day The food menu is quite limited but there were a nice selection of cakes available & lots of unusual teas too The food we did order was delicious .. but they were small portions for the price ( I must admit it was one our most expensive eats while on the isle of wight!) All in all a great setting to enjoy a cup of tea & drink but maybe wouldn’t go back for food

Fantastic! Welcomed in with a friendly smile, the ladies were lovely at all times. Hot drinks all tasty, served with a cute little biscuit on the side. I had the steak burger, which came in a toasty hot bun, with proper grated cheese on top & between the two burgers that melted beautifully. This was served with chips & salad. It all tasted so good. Highly recommend, we'll be back soon :-)
