Have visited a few times now, food is average at best, quiche was more like scrambled egg in pastry. Waited almost half an hour before drinks and food was served, on what was not a very busy day. Ladies toilets need a good clean. Staff very friendly, although one in particular is extremely loud when walking about and taking orders!

Waited over 40 minutes for our drinks. Got served cakes on extremely chipped and broken plates. Waitresses were lovely just slow service. Coffee tasted burnt. Cake was very bang average.

Good value for money and Food was amazing. Service could do with being better, no check backs to see if we were ok or wanted any more drinks. See that tables were not being wiped down.

Visited with my elderly mum. The carpark is a fair size but only has two disabled spaces so we were quite a way from the door. The place was quite busy but we found a table quite quickly. There is a good selection of food both hot meals and sandwiches/ toasties etc. I had the jacket potato with Coronation chicken. It came with a dressed side salad and coleslaw and it was very nice. A proper baked potato, not microwaved and crispy. It wasn’t too massive either. Unfortunately my mum ordered the Brie and bacon quiche which was not good at all. The quiche was stone cold, tough pastry and full of salty bacon with no cheese taste and hardly any fluffy egg. It was more akin to a bacon and egg pie. My mum had to leave this and take it home for the dog. Judging by how busy the place gets it must be popular and it wasn’t pricey but I don’t think I’ll go back. P.s. by the till the cake fridge did have some very tasty looking cakes and tray bakes which could also be taken out.

Very popular coffee/lunch spot. We were at the caravan business next door so stumbled across Laings by chance the first time, enjoyed it so much we went back the second time by choice. Unless you book be prepared to wait for a table over the lunch period as is gets busy. All the food we had was tasty and very good value for money.

Really enjoyed this. We were a party of 7 and all enjoyed it. Would recommend the fish finger sandwich. Service very good. It was busy so I would book.

We visited early in the morning around 9.30, cold wet miserable day, we have been before. On entering the place was empty except for 2 people, We were asked, Good Morning can I help, table for 2 please. We were asked, oh have you booked? Erm no. Although it gets quite busy late morning and lunch time as we noticed last visit. We found this funny, but the thing that gets us is how loud and condescending the lady who we think is the Manager speaks to people. ,like she is doing us a favour, it’s very off putting and not the first time. The staff are lovely polite and helpful, so we let it pass, the service is good the food is average nothing special except the cakes which are yummy. This lady doesn’t put us off going but certainly needs taught people skills.

Queued to get a table for quite a while. After 35 minutes nobody had been with menus so had to go to counter just to order 3 coffees. After a further wait of 20 minutes our coffees arrived. The iced latte was like milk so had to order 2 expressos to get the taste of coffee in the latte! We then waited another 15 minutes for the expressos !! For our 3 coffees we waited a total of 1 hour 50 minutes! Avoid !

I have been here many times and generally enjoyed every aspect of the visits. However, recently, the service has been gradually getting worse. On our recent visit we booked for 12.30 and arrived on time and were shown to our table. 56 minutes later the meals arrived! At no time in those minutes did any member of staff come to tell us there was a delay. When the meals eventually did arrive, there was only one word from the waitress. "Enjoy". The location is good as is the food, but it seems that the emphasis is on making more money by cramming in more customers rather than showing respect to them. The attitude of the owners/managers needs to change. The service can only be described as appalling.

Went with friends for lunch. Ordered cheese and onion quiche with a side of chips. I was expecting a slice of creamy, cheesy, quiche. What came was a deep, round pie style 'quiche' which was hot - I wasn't offered a choice of hot or cold. That in itself was not an issue if the quiche had been nice. But it had not only been microwaved so the pastry was soft but there was no cheesy flavour and had a texture of baked egg - in fact there were large lumps of egg white in it where it hadn't been whisked enough. A quiche in my opinion and baking experience should be well beaten, with cream and a strong enough cheese that you can taste it, and a soft texture. I have had food here before and it was nice but this was SO disappointing. I left over half of it owing to the texture and lack of flavour. I didn't complain at the time as I had tried almost half of it - but come on Laings - go in the summer to Hutton In The Forest tearoom and see what a real quiche should be like - blooming lovely. For the record - the chips were great and the side salad with a balsamic dressing was lovely.

Great restaurant/cafe just off the motorway but no traffic noise. We stopped for a light lunch and despite being very busy were given a table. Coffee was excellent. The menu is extensive including Sunday roast which looked plentiful and fresh. Big plus is that it is dog friendly and our pooch slept under the table. Staff were friendly if a bit rushed. Decor was barn like, clean and tidy. Def will make a return visit with a bigger family group.

I wrote a negative review some time ago but since then we have visited twice. What a complete change. The staff were lovely on both occasions and the food/drink was too. Definitely worth a visit.

Went for coffee and cakes. Toasted tea cake was burnt. Strawberry tart very disappointing. The cream was off. Took the strawberry tart back but they still charged us!! We visit 2-3 times a week so will be a long time until we return.

Visited this morning with my daughter, she had full English, I had American pancakes. Absolutely perfect, service was good and quick , and a nice buzz in the restaurant, food was tasty and hot . Went for a late lunch as i know it can be busy. Plenty of available tables and order taken quickly. Food arrived soon after ordering which was good however it took the waitress over 30 mins to remove our used plates and only did so when I caught her attention. Ordered coffee and cake but again it took almost 30 mins to make 2 lattes and plate 2 slices of cake despite there only being a few people dining. Waitresses were slow and too busy talking to each other to take any notice of their customers, very disappointed, won’t be rushing back. Food was only average to be honest but quite pricey for what it was

Absolute chaos today 40 minute wait for food it was bedlam short staffed full restaurant but still they let people sit down knowing they couldn’t cope with the people that were allready in time to look elsewhere for a less chaotic place

Very disappointing, shown to our seats waited a good 10min for the waitress to come back to take our order then another 40mins for food to arrive, my lunch was very disappointing I ordered katsu chicken curry fries the curry was definitely not katsu it tasted like a cheap chip shop curry

Exceedingly poor planning and service. Booked a table for Father’s Day with my 2 month old daughter and partner. After battling to be shown to our seat - literally ignored by a staff member - our order was then taken after 30 minutes of waiting despite being told “I’ll be back in two”. The waitresses were few and far between and not easily visible to attract attention. We were then advised that there would be “at least an hour” wait. Clearly under staffed and lacked the capacity to fulfil their orders. A shame as this was previously a great establishment but my recommendation is to avoid on any day where it is likely to be a little busier than normal.

Stumbled upon this place as was visiting a business next door. Firstly they are dog friendly, the member of staff we had couldn't have been more helpful. Our daughter wanted fries before fries were able to be ordered but they gladly accommodated. Pricing was as would be expected. A little gem in our opinion.

I have just had Sunday Lunch here today I have just been reading some of the comments so now its time for mine.I would like to make this a posative one ! If i could give my sunday luch 12 out of 10 i would it was Lush Lush Lush.The beef was melt in the mouth mash roast and all the veg spot on compliments to the chef. It was just commong to end of lunch service i was seated with out a problem given menu without a problem order taken and drink arrived with in mins I have worked in the industry and dealing with the moaning public has never been easy.Sometimes they just moan for moans sake What they dont realise is that good food takes time,i for 1 will be back thank you and well done.

I would rate it 0 if possible as it is extremely unorganised and over priced. There is not enough staff and the staff that are working choose to stand around the counter gossiping rather than seating customers. My drinks sat there for 10 minutes before I got them they came stone cold when I asked for a replacement a young lady that had short brown/blonde hair with glasses rolled her eyes and took them away without apologising. Food came 40 minutes later, it wasn’t very warm but was okay. I got a jacket potato which was hard in the middle so I left most of my food. My friends didn’t complain about their food but said it could of been hotter. The one we think is the owner and daughter are very rude and abrupt to there staff. The short one we believe to be the owner came to the counter when it was noticeably busy and asked for a drink for herself then walked off without offering any help. The one we think is the daughter who is tall and who we seen coming from the pink building came over and was shouting about the list of drinks that was on the counter. She then went behind the bar and took over telling the young lass behind the bar to move and do something else. This place isn’t professional at all a lot of improvements from management need to be made to make it less chaotic as all the girls do is complain. We explained at the counter about the issue with the drinks and food but no notice was made to my comment and was charged full price with no apology off them. Would definitely not recommend as service is awful and food isn’t worth the money

Only reviewing due to multiple bad experiences regarding the customer service here. Each time I have been the food has been lovely however on my first visit myself and friends were accused of one of us not paying. After explaining to the staff member she had they argued with me but agreed I did not need to pay for the item. On the 2nd occasion I received a call asking where I was for my booking. The staff member on the phone was rude and when I told them I had doubled checked my message they told me they would have to call me back. I do appreciate when they did call back she apologised however the initial phone call was rude and unprofessional. During my booking today, we found a short white hair in our food. When I told a member of staff the response we got was “oh” and she walked away. There was no offer of replacement, no apology, nothing. Safe to say due to the customer service, I will not be returning anytime soon.

We visited early in the week and it was chaos. A system whereby customers were queuing at the counter at both ends one end to pay and the other end to wait for a table (both queues were very long and merged together blocking the pathway with people on top of one another and staff not knowing who was waiting to pay or who was waiting for a table etc. The place didn’t seem to have enough staff on, none of the staff seemed to have an idea of what they were meant to be doing or who was meant to be doing what. When we were eventually shown to a table that had supposedly been wiped down it hadn’t been wiped down very well with big chunks of crumbs and chocolate left behind on the table amongst the wet cloth marks and food on the chairs yuk. The food when it came was quite nice but it was pennies off £20 for two hot drinks, a baked potato and a soup so it wasn’t exactly cheap or reasonable prices.

Out for lunch with a friend. Great menu choices, the food was delicious and was warm and cosy by the log burner. It was very busy but the staff were very attentative.

Coming back from Scotland we called in here initially for a coffee but upon viewing the menu we opted for some food as well, I had the club sandwich with garlic mayo, skin on chips, coleslaw and salad and my partner had the hummus and falafel wrap with sweet potato fries both were absolutely delicious, we also had coffee and cake , the cake portion was huge and very nice, definitely recommend this place and will be returning very soon

An independent Coffee shop which has the best breakfast in Carlisle. Can’t understand the negative reviews at all. People are far to trigger happy to give one star. Foods always been good and service friendly. I will be back when I’m next up from London.

We haven’t been here since before covid hit so decided to go today. I was disappointed with the new layout of the place, has lost its original charm and welcome feeling. Staff are ok but not very welcoming and one member of staff needs to be shown how to wear a mask correctly, it was barely covering her mouth. My partner had a BLT which was he said was good I ordered Nachos with steak and cheese which wasn’t the best.To drink I ordered Tea, the cup was stained and didn’t look very clean and the tea pot was the same. I’m not sure we will be back in a hurry. Such a shame as we used to love coming here.

Delicious homemade food, and wonderfully decorated surrounds! Definitely a must try and I would definitely recommend. Just a heads up it gets rather busy during lunch time, we arrived around 11.30am and shortly after most tables where filled - maybe a good idea to book if your arriving within the lunch period. Even though it was rather busy the tables are all distanced so this wasn't a problem to us we still felt safe. The staff work hard to make sure everyone is seen to and are happy to help/assist in any way. From what I can see they seem to have all relevant procedures in place and you must wear a mask whilst not seated.

I visited Laing's yesterday with my mum. I feel saddened that people have to write the negativity so here I am with what was a great experience had at Laing's! The food was amazing, we couldn't fault it in any way except the portion size was rather large and we couldn't squeeze in one of their amazing looking cake! The staff were so friendly and helpful it sure was a busy Monday I guess but they still had the time to make we felt welcomed and most of all safe. They have track and trace sheets that are to be filled out in your own time whilst sitting at your table. They have made an excellent job at redecorating the coffee shop out, I felt the whole ambiance was great. I understand some people may be up tight about the current situation with the crisis but lets all be nice to one another and smile behind our masks! We will definitely be back for sure!

We are in a midst of a health crisis and it is places like this that are leading us to a second lockdown. No track and trace. Very busy, clearly understaffed. Random and unclear signage. The space where people queued to pay led to people actually leaning against our table. We left.

I took my sister and mum here last week and what a lovely experience we had. Staff were very friendly, attentive and all wearing face masks which was good to see. There was a little bit of a wait for the food but this was to be expected as they were incredibly busy and were taking people's details for track and trace. When the food came it was delicious, I had the Chicken Goujons and the others had baguettes which came with a side salad. We will definitely be back very soon.

After normally having an amazing experience at Laings I was very disappointed today. There was a confusion with my order to begin with which meant my food didn’t come with my partners food, I excepted that miscommunication can happen and just asked that my food come as quickly as it can. The lady said it would be no longer than 5 minutes. After 25 minutes my food had still not came to which I asked someone to check on it and they hadn’t even begun to cook it. At this point I told them to leave it as we had been in the restaurant for over 1 hour and I went home having not ate. The most annoying part was how hard it was to get someone’s attention to explain what had happened and by the time I caught staffs attention it was far too late to fix.

Visited here yesterday with my mum. The food was amazing, the staff were so friendly. Made you feel so welcome and safe. We could see how busy all the staff were and still got the best service. Will definitely be back!

Visited yesterday. We're where to sit. Contact details not taken? Waited 40 minutes without a menu! When drinks did finally arrive they were lukewarm. Won't be back!!
