Met a family member for a coffee and a chat. After paying was surprised to see I'd charged for a 'tip', a 'service charge' whatever., but I'd paid before receiving what if ordered. Good customer service should be 2nd nature and not because the staff member has been paid extra to do so, up front! If the customer thinks it's been a good experience & feels the staff member deserves a tip then that would be at the customers discretion. I get it, it's not a well paid job so tips help a lot. However if the staff you have are the type you really want to be the face of your brand then they should make every customer feel special, Happy customers breed happy reviews online, to friends, workmates, tourists etc and help you grow your business with positivity. The coffee and everything else about the visit was great so don't take above as a criticism, it's merely an opinion. Money is tight all round so paying extra without prior knowledge can have a knock-on effect.

I came here for a catch-up with a friend who was up in Edinburgh for a visit - I suggested Lady and the Bear because it is such a great location, has a lovely view of the meadows, and is near where I live. The coffee we ordered was lovely as always - just the right temperature and very sweet latte art, the barista was charming and the pastries were tasty. We had these Cypriot pastry swirl things with what I think was cardamon and Nutella - they were lovely and not like anything I've ever had before. I would 100% recommend this place for catching up with friends over coffee and a snack, the brunch ordered by the table next to us looked lovely too - must try next time.

Visited this place with a friend last week for hot drinks and a cake. I ordered a drink with hot milk and asked for it to be extra hot. My friend had tea. Both or our drinks were tepid, and asked to have them changed. I went for a different drink, as I felt the same one would be equally as cold. My friend changed her tea for another tea, and that was still tepid. When we mentioned this to the server again, she went off to get the manager/owner. When he came out and towered over our table, he was not happy, and stated that never before had he had so many complaints from one table. I asked how hot he boiled his water and he said 85deg. I mentioned that this wasn’t hot enough, and he replied, ‘I’m the expert, not you!’. I used to train people how to make drinks when I worked in Starbucks. He also told us that we were not welcome in the cafe ever again, and to not come back. We were so taken aback. We told him we’d like a refund, and he did give us one, but when my friend told him to keep the tip for the server, he told her that he is in charge of his staff. Eh? He also argued that my first drink was not cold, and that he tested it. Bizarre. The cafe looks so nice from the outside. It could be a lovely place, if it wasn’t for a couple of things. It’s very expensive and ran by a very aggressive person. Not what we expected.

This is a very nice looking place and handy for the Meadows area. The young woman on the counter was friendly, pleasant and helpful throughout. There is an tempting display of savoury and sweet pastries and snacks and a comprehensive drinks menu. There appears to be a separate area for those wishing to use a laptop, which is considerate and well used; probably because it is very close to the University. I was there to meet a friend. We ordered two hot drinks and a pastry and were served promptly. My friend had asked to have her drink extra hot, but it was tepid. I had tea, which was also tepid (it happens). Both were changed buy the server without question. My second tea was, however also tepid. The server said that she'd used the hot water from the machine, so it should have been boiling and went to fetch the manager. I explained to the manager and he said that the tea was at the correct temperature of 85 degrees. I had no way to measure the tmeperature, but as a tea drinker, I was clear it was not hot. The manager responded by saying that all the other customers seemed happy and the only two complaints had come from our table. There followed further details from him on the correct temperature of tea-water. At this point I did say that I found his implication offensive and that we would like to receive a refund and leave. We did receive a refund ("as a gesture of good will" - which it didn't feel like) and although I offered that the server keep the tip as she had been nothing but courteous, the manager responded with "Don't tell me how to manage my staff." I have left out some details for the sake of brevity, but we will definitely not be back. We went to Summerhall next door and had a steaming hot cup of tea.

We were 5 of us, 2 ordered The God Father, the presentation was average, covered in sea of olive oil. Too much sauce & potato was not crispy, just greasy. 1 ordered pancakes with Nutella & strawberries, Nutella was not spread, it was just dumped in the middle like ice cream. Another ordered pancakes with prosciutto, maple syrup and banana. Both pancakes had too much sugar all over. Absolutely overpriced. Almost £20 per head for brunch. I question the quality of everything else. They did not have smoothies available, toilet drainage was almost blocked. I would not go back. However, the service was good, staff were friendly. If you want to go there for a coffee & a hot chocolate, go ahead, they were decent.

Just had a lovely visit. We were a large-ish group and they accommodated us no problem. The coffees were perfect. Bagels and spanakopita were delicious and the service was nice. Will definitely return. Oh, and they’re dog friendly too!

lovely coffee with perfect mugs - big chunky blue ceramic ones - with great foam, great creamy texture, great service from lovely staff, and really lovely interior design (very Greek and light and summery). A little pricey but honestly worth it for the vibes. 🐻☕️

I do not recommend this place. They were so awkward and unfriendly. I went there for a ice coffee to take away, the price on the menu was a little more than £4, less than £4.50 as far as I could remember(not accurate). I thought OK this is the centre of the city so a bit pricey but it’s understandable… I did not expect their service is really not nice. After I tapped my card(just common UK debit card) and paid, the guy who was serving the coffee complained that I did not pay tips.I literally saw the machine was showing tips/service fee 50p added, so I said, oh, tips included but they got so defensive and said no no it was not because you tapped your card too quickly. I felt really confused but I did not argue about it, It’s a small thing,I did not want it to ruin my day. Later on I saw my bank statement and they literally charged £4.95 for that small take away ice coffee-so that 50p tips were obviously added and paid but they were giving me attitude?!Not even mentioning their coffee was nothing too special. This review is not only about their price, it is more about their service and attitude. Not worth it.

Absolutely delicious food and great service - will be back! Lovely atmosphere. Food was ever so slightly slow to arrive but we barely noticed, and staff brought over a free cinnamon bun without us saying anything. Overall a lovely brunch and would recommend.

What a friendly cafe with excellent food and service. We came here for the second time recently with friends and despite us bringing 3 noisy babies the staff couldn’t have been better to us, making sure we were well looked after and right at home. Lovely food, my family enjoyed the omelette and Greek pork pastry. Delicious and would highly recommend to those with (and without) children!

We were here to get 1 hot chocolate on the 2nd January. Everything was nice and the atmosphere was great and staff were friendly. But it took 10 minutes and we were first in line. Someone was taking orders but no one was actually doing anything apart from cleaning tables. The hot chocolate was topped with cream and freeze dried strawberries and was actually incredible at the top, but the coffee was lukewarm. This place just feels a few steps away from being amazing and I hope the owners sort it out.

The hospitality here was second to none. I felt like I was in a family owned cafe, off the beaten path on the Continent. I ordered the Eggs Benedict and they were some of the best I evet had. I'm frustrated that we didn't discover Luscious until the last morning of our stay in Edinburgh. Well worth a visit.

Young white guy with blonde hair was so rude the moment I walked in. He was the only one at the counter and took forever to take my order even though he was doing nothing. I ordered a pastrami on rye dine in and got it toasted. After patiently waiting 30 whole minutes at my table, no sign of my sandwich (which was already made and all he had to do was toast it). I walked up to him and asked where it is and he looked like I was an inconvenience to him. He asked annoyingly “what did ya order again” and then took a sandwich from the bar and started toasting it. He then rudely plopped it on my table with no real care. Not once did he apologise or admit his mistake. The sandwich itself was okay but definitely not worth the price. There were barely any pickles and it was toasted so poorly - it was as if he put it on the toaster for only 10 seconds. While I was there, I also witnessed another incident where an older woman politely told the same waiter that her food was served cold and he didn’t apologise and begrudgingly took it back to the kitchen. He brought it out again and the woman complained that although her food was hot now it was a mushy mess that looked inedible. He looked so annoyed but thankfully the manager took over and apologised repeatedly with great professionalism. In summary - average and expensive food, extremely rude and uncaring waiter, but manager was empathetic and caring.

Hanams was one of my favourite restaurants in Edinburgh so I was excited to go back. I assumed it was going to be the same as the menu hadn’t changed much. It appears to be run by different people now who aren’t from the Middle East. The food is nowhere near the levels it used to be. The lamb was overcooked and the chicken didn’t have the authentic clay oven charring. It was almost like it had been cooked in an air fryer or oven so seriously lacked flavour and not what I was looking forward to. We ordered prawns for main which arrived with no bread and a small amount of salad. Not really what you expect for a main meal, especially given it was about £20. The Halloumi fries were quite nice but nowhere near as good as they used to be. The place was empty on a Friday night which I think tells you this place has went downhill as it used to be difficult to get a table at the weekends. Despite being empty we had to go up and ask for the bill as the service was poor and the staff weren’t very attentive. I’m afraid I won’t be going back, which is a shame as I used to love this place.
