La Vita in Glasgow City

I have been here before and didn't really have a problem but today was my daughters birthday she's 5, she wanted pasta so we thought not far from the train station we will go here. The service from the second we walked in was Poor the man at the front desk was arrogant didn't interact with us at all just dumped us at a table n walked away, we were there for a while before a waitress took a drink order for us, Again no smile barely any interaction I asked what her dairy free options were as my baby boy is allergic her response was just look and take the dairy out of everything, that's not really how it works so thankfully I had packed a wee extra for him as the attitude and response I got I didn't want to risk it. Onto ordering food again the girls face was about too trip her up it was so dour , we asked if my wee girl could get brocoli through her pasta she made a face as if how stupid of me to dare ask for such a thing. Trying to keep my cool of these arrogant people around us I tried to just ignore it, then another girl came over with our food dumped the plates on our table but served all of the plates right at the bit my baby was sat at who of course instantly tried to go for the "HOT" plates not a enjoy your meal or anything just dumped them n walked away, I asked for a garlic dip I didn't get a response just walked away 5 mins later showed up with a tiny sauce again just dumped on the table n walked away. I wanted to do something special for my wee girl so went back to the front door to ask if they could do her a bit of cake with a candle or anything and the girl at the door seemed too nice to be working there tbh she said no problem I'll sort it, Our dour waitress was walking about the place with my daughters ice cream in the hand with the candle kind of gave the game away arguing with 2 male customers who seemed a bit taken back at how they were spoken too. Thankfully they stuck up for themselves as they looked like a pack of wolves about to attack paying customers! Finally the ice cream that was now just cream with a candle on it made its way over n the girl from the door sang happy bday while the dour one just dumped it n walked away clearly got the same manners as her colleagues. 100% would not go back here. The saying they have got a stick up the A**e comes to mind. The staff are horrible food was rotten also was lovely last time I was in such a shame.

Booked online about a week before we went - got shown our table then asked to move upstairs as they needed our table for a large party coming - upstairs was too warm, noisy with several hen/birthday parties going on. We asked to move back downstairs - got a table for 2. Literally as soon as we’d finished they brought the card machine over . We were still drinking a cocktail . Baring in mind we didn’t get served till after our time slot due to moving tables twice / hounded to leave within an hour and a half of our booked time slot Totally spoiled the whole dining experience which was unfortunate considering the food was decent Won’t be rushing back

We had booked a table at 5.30 and called to advise we were running five minutes late. Turned up at the restaurant and stood in a queue for a further ten minutes and told to take a seat at the bar while waiting for a table(?) Whilst waiting there, a waiter dropped a full tray of drinks, spraying a mixture of liquids onto my wife’s clothing. No acknowledgement was given or apology offered. We were then shown to a table in the middle of a busy passage, on the way to the toilet and provided with incorrect menus. Five minutes later a waiter came and apologised after being made aware, apologised for the issues and brought the manager over. She then moved our table and offered us a free drink. Ordered off the Classico menu, four tapas and a dessert each. Food was really nice but didn’t have much time to enjoy it as we shovelled it down to make sure we left in time to make a show we were booked into. We had made staff aware of our required time to depart. We ordered two ice creams and then asked for the bill to try and speed up our departure, finding out it was wrong, and was quickly corrected by the same original waiter. We then had to leave after waiting 25 minutes for our desserts without success. Spoke to the manager on the way out and she suggested taking ice cream away with us or having a dessert from the cabinet. I explained that wouldn’t be suitable as we were walking to the theatre and couldn’t take it in with us. My impression is they try to cram too many people in and make as much money as possible which is a shame as the food would have made me want to go back.

First visit with work colleagues before heading out to a larger get together and we were not disappointed. The small plates suited us fine and the bread on table was a nice touch. The meatballs were tasty but the actual sauce I couldn’t get enough of, it was delicious and the small pizza was far from small…..pepperoni just the way I like it. Very reasonably priced and every one of us thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Italians love their food, love to chat with family and friends, the table IS the social experience - so I've been told by my Italian friends. La Vita Spuntini on Gordon St. does great food. You just don't get a chance to enjoy it. Yeah, the place is buzzing and, of course, they want to make money but not everyone wants to eat it and beat it: for some of us being in a restaurant enjoying good food and good chat IS the night out - not just the lining on our stomachs before heading elsewhere. There are enough folk who want to do that to allow a bit of time for those of us who don't. There was an almost neurotic edge to staff and management's urgency to have our table back within an hour and a half, and only reluctantly extended it to an hour and 50 minutes when we said we'd ordered à la carte and not from the tasting menu - so much so that this attitude alone will mean we won't be returning. A couple of staff members were lovely and, as I said, the food was great hence giving three stars. The Covid induced regulation of time limiting tables should only be allowed in restaurants that still have tables 2m apart, have hand sanitiser on entry and insist on everyone wearing masks.

We had dinner here & didn’t book. We only had to wait 15 mins for a table for 5. The table we were given was for 4 with a seat stuck on the edge. We got served quickly but found the menu a bit confusing. Food was nice & my son really enjoyed his pizza. . The restaurant itself had a lovely decor but was very warm. I had looked at the George Square menu online and wish we’d have gone there as they seem to have a better selection with risottos etc.

For starters the restaurant was ridiculous hot. Tables far to close together. I had to eat with my jacket on my lap as waiters kept knocking it off the back of my chair to get to other tables. The food was good. However since the restaurant was so hot we asked for a jug of water 4 times before it actually came 30 mins later in 2 little glasses. Asked for a jug again and 2 pint glasses came. Asked why we hadn't got a jug and apparently the table was too small for a jug. The other 2 seater tables all had large bottle of water on it but we had to ask for a bottle instead of a jug. I mean WTF. Anyway we were ready to leave at that point. No one came to ask if our meal was OK. Overall terrible service but OK food.

Horrific experience at this restaurant. Visited with work colleagues and told the server before I ordered that I was allergic to nuts. I had three small plates from the Fixed Set menu. I then went on to have the bread and butter pudding dessert. At no point was I given an allergen list and it was not noted on the menu that what I picked had nuts in it. After having a couple of bites, I could feel a reaction happening, starting in my mouth and working down to my throat. I ended up having a full allergic reaction to this dessert. I asked the server are there nuts in this and at first she said no it’s just bread and butter. She then came back to our table and said they had changed the recipe and added a caramel sauce. I asked to see the ingredients but was not given this information. At this point I was gravely unwell and a work colleague had to drive me home, on route we had to stop on the hard shoulder of the motorway. I had to get out as I was violently sick. I was lucky and I survived this reaction by quickly taking medication however the next person may not be so lucky. After I had left the restaurant, my other work colleagues pressed the server to find out what was in the caramel sauce and she admitted there was nuts in it. My colleagues also informed me that the manager had said that by the time the server gave me my dessert, she forgot about my nut allergy. The lack of care by this restaurant is absolutely shocking and I strongly recommend that if you have any allergies do not eat here as they do not take it seriously and the staff are totally incompetent.

This saturday evening we’ve had my granddaughter birthday party and a wee (big) family dinner! We were sat upstairs that was far too hot to be honest. The heat upstairs was the only thing that let us down a little bit, but apart from that everything else was amazing, food was splendid! we got the 5 pm menu that you can get a prosecco, the tapas was lovely and we shared most of them because the portions were very generous, really liked the mushroom pasta and specially the broscheta ! The service is absolutely fantastic, we got taken care of by Ysa (wee girl with transparent glasses) , she was really helpful and friendly, and we all sing happy birthday to my granddaughter. The gentleman with glasses that seemed to be a manager was lovely as well. Felt a bit rushed out in the end but it’s okay! busy busy place. We’ll be back 100% thank you for this lovely day!!!

Meant to eat somewhere else, but it didnt work out. So found this place and asked if there was a table free. Considering it was a friday evening, we were lucky to get a table. Place was packed with mostly every table taken. Servers were helpful, place was clean and tidy. I cant drink soft drinks anymore and dont drink alcohol, so there wasn't much choice for me. Stuck with water which was a bummer for me. Anyway, the food was freshly cooked and good. I had the small pizza and couldnt finish it, I have a small appetite but managed dessert!

Thought we would try the Gordon Street restaurant for a change as been to La Vita in George Square a number of times. On entering the restaurant is very traditional, smaller than the other but lots of charm and the staff were very friendly. We shared cheese arancini for starters and then ordered 2 small mains to share. We ordered a bolognaise pizza and lasagna. The pizza was flavorsome, thin and crispy, the lasagna was ok however I have tasted better and would not have it again.

My 2nd visit, my 1st one was with husband and neither of us were fans. However my friend loves the food and the tapas options. We ordered bottle of wine and 3 dishes each from tapas menu. I had chicken wings, dry and tasteless though the dip was good, arrancini (meat option),again dry, underseasoned and bland and lasagne which had overpowering taste of rosemary (least it tasted of something) once again i was dissapointed with the food, same as 1st visit. However staff are nice, accomodating and helpful. My friend seemed to like and enjoy her dishes, and it seems to he a favourite place of hers and many other people as it is always busy. I however feel that there are plenty of other Italian restaurants in Glasgow i would much rather visit where the food is definately better. I certainly wont be going back for a 3rd visit, but each to their own.

Was part of a group of 5 here for dinner midweek in early December. We arrived promptly and spent almost 20 minutes standing at the front entrance while staff faffed around, claiming they weren’t sure we had a booking, then accepting we did but asking if we could split into 2 groups as they had no tables big enough. Our reservation was for 6.30 pm Eventually, after standing our ground we were seated at a single table (which was clearly for 4 as it was far too small). The menus were handed out (only 4, we had to share). One of our group was given a Christmas hat - the rest of us ignored. While we were waiting for the order to be taken we witnessed a large group (maybe 20) arrive and be treated appallingly. They were also left standing in the middle of the restaurant while the staff tried to persuade them to sit at a series of tiny tables joined together. It was impossible for people to get in and out and the people had to move the tables themselves to make it work. 45 mins after we arrived our order was taken. We then had to wait a further 15 mins for our drinks order to be taken. So we have now been there an hour and are utterly fed up. We ordered drinks , 2 alcoholic, 2 soft and 1 tap water. The alcoholic drinks arrived, we then had to ask twice more before the soft drinks were brought and, despite a further 2 polite requests the tap water was never brought. The food was mediocre at best - chicken stroganoff with rice and chips?! Turkey with slices of orange to bulk it out but no pigs in blankets. We had planned eat 3 courses but when it reached 9.30 we decided to cut our losses an go home without dessert. I have never experienced such dreadful service by people who clearly could not care less. Our bill was presented to us and when my friend queried if there was service charge included (as it seemed higher than expected) he was met with the comment “no, but most people add 20% for a tip”. I’m not sure what he added but I certainly don’t think the service merited any kind of reward. On examining the bill we realised we had been charged for 3 courses each. What a scam outfit all round. More than 3 hours of my life I won’t ever get back - safe to say I will never return and hope anyone thinking about visiting reads the (pretty consistent) opinions on Trip Advisor.

Visited with friends between Christmas and new year. When we arrived we were surprised that is was a Christmas menu only as this had not been made clear when booking. The restaurant was also far too warm. The food on offer was however good quality and at a fair price. However the overall service was poor. Bar service was very slow and the wait time from ordering a drink to receiving it was unacceptably long. One round went “missing” and had to be chased. The starters all arrived at different times and we had the same issue with mains with a 5 min gap between first and last. Staff were not attentive and every time we wanted more drinks, we had to attract the attention of a server as they were not coming round naturally. Overall, the experience was ok as the food was good but expect far better service than we received.
