La Vague in Dumfries & Galloway

Firstly I would like to say this review is no reflection on the waiting staff who are lovely Vague us set in a beautiful location and should have everything you want However the utter bad manners and rudeness of the man I presume is the owner or manager will stop us returning sadly. The bad temper was not directed a us but sadly his staff in front of us Our waitress had made a simple error and given us the wrong bill She was clearly wary of telling as he was already being extremely unpleasant to another member of staff This is not the first time we have seen this so can only vote on our feet.

Checked website for menu before booking, looked great, 12 starters, appetisers, 9 lovely past dishes, 3 risotto, 5 pollo, 2 steaks, 3 fish. arrived, ignored for 20 minutes, ordered drinks, came 15 min later, then the menu, sandwiches, burger and pizzas. ordered our mains, another long wait, 1 hour 20 mins since arriving, meatball sandwich ok, overpriced, best part was the menabrea beer

Not very efficient. Not enough staff. Lots of boards telling you what rules & regs they follow. Too long to wait. Wanted food but was informed there was a one hour wait which was a lie. Very expensive for what it is. They need to go back to basics!

Fabulous lunch with gorgeous sea food for starters and mains. Would highly rec the specials on the menu. Wine recommendations were great too and complimented the food brilliantly. Will definitely come again ☺️

Hair in food! Dirty cutlery and crockery! Cross-contamination between meat and other ingredients on other plates! So bad that I gave the staff food hygiene instructions before leaving. Avoid!

Had a fabulous lunch today, transported to Italy with fabulous, authentic food. Friendly and good service. Will definitely return.

Called into La Vague for a late lunch Friday afternoon. We were given the usual friendly greeting by the owner, Anouar and seated by the window with the never tiring view of the river. Drinks arrived a few minutes later. The Specials Board had the usual assortment of mouth-watering dishes. We were drawn to the Pan-Fried Lemon Sole dressed with fresh mussels and served in a white wine sauce and accompanied by fresh vegetables. The fish was soft and meaty and the skin had just the right amount of crispness. The dish was beautifully presented and really delicious. As always the quantity was generous but there was just sufficient room for us to manage a follow-up plate of ice cream and sorbet. We rounded off a very satisfying meal with a coffee and liqueur. The owner and waitresses were very attentive throughout and we spent a very enjoyable and satisfying two hours at the Bistro. We will be back soon. Thanks to all.

What an amazing lunch with Ian Challand, Joe Challand and Phil Beale Great freshly prepared food and lovely service by the staff. The Chef/owner touched every table whilst we were there and made us feel exceptionally welcome!! We will definitely be back and hopefully the sun will shine and we can make use of the beautiful picturesque outside area by the side of the river!!

We waited 1 hour for two sandwiches .. when questioned why it was taking a while, the manager came back with "it is busy" "we are serving indoor first". There must have been 4 tables indoor with a couple people on at this point. When we told her we were happy to wait however it would have been nice to be warned, her back was straight up, no apology and she became snappy then kept saying "it is busy" We explained we were not having a go merely trying to support her in making communication better. However, due to the rude response and lack of empathy we are NOT happy and do NOT recommend.

Lovely stop on a river walk for lunch. Staff very friendly and attentive. We enjoyed a lasagne and a chicken and mushroom sandwich which were lovely. Highly recommended to all who maybe passing they also have coffee and cake available for lighter dishes.

Lovely spot by the river BUT unfortunately the obnoxious manager/owner totally ruins it. Won't be returning until he is gone!

Excellent English Breakfast with quality ingredients, nicely cooked and well presented! Nice coffee. Great service … except (and we were advised upon arrival) the credit card machine wasn’t working!! So we had to do a banks transfer as we didn’t have enough cash.

Visited la vague for breakfast and lunch over the weekend, food was excellent on both occasions and the service was first class. I will definitely be going again.

Decided to go for lunch last Friday and how pleased we are that we did. The Trent-side Bistro was decorated for Christmas and felt very warm and inviting. Immediately we walked in we were greeted with smiling faces and made to feel very welcome. We were shown to a table over-looking the river and immediately asked if we would like a drink. The drinks were quickly served by a friendly, smiling waitress who then took our order for lunch. We went for two meals off the ‘Specials Board’. I had a swordfish steak dressed with fresh mussels and served with penne pasta in a delicious sauce. My wife had Boeuf Bourgignon with mash and green beans. The food arrived in reasonable time, served by the owner who is also the head chef. He engaged in friendly conversation and was obviously concerned that we should enjoy the meal. Both dishes were excellent - delicious and plentiful to the extent that there was no room for the Pannacotta that we had been promising ourselves. We finished with coffee and more friendly conversation with owner and waitresses. Overall a leisurely and very enjoyable lunch. Impossible to fault any aspect of it. It was hospitality at its best and we will soon be back. Thanks to all.

Visited with friends for a coffee. Used to come regularly but put off by various signs outside advising to wipe feet before entering. This previously had been a very busy cafe, popular with walkers, dog-walkers and cyclists- no longer made to feel welcome now . Very quiet on our visit on a beautiful sunny day- very unusual. Staff were unfriendly and did not seem happy to be there. This is a lovely place in a beautiful spot- such a shame.

We stumbled across this place and so glad we did! The staff were friendly and it was a lovely relaxed atmosphere. The food was absolutely delicious and had so much flavour. Was done really well. We all had something different, and said how nice it was. Chef came out to see if the food was ok. Definitely 10/10 and can’t wait to go back ☺️

Went here today the chicken stroganoff was Devine and the cheese garlic bread delicious what a lovely place so chilled and the host so very attentive would highly recommend. Go check his beef burgeoning tomorrow it’s been slow cooked as we speak

We found this place by accident, stopped in for a coffee and cake after a walk along the river. We were well received by lovely staff, nice cake and coffee and a hospitable owner who came over to chat. We went back for lunch the following day and the experience was great. Lovely, mainly Italian food, staff and atmosphere. Its not cheap, but worth it!.

We found this lovely tearoom when trying to find a picnic venue for the Lincolnshire MX-5 Owners Club. 9 cars arrived and we were very much welcomed and well looked after and an under roof patio area was made available for our sole use. There was a bit of confusion as some of us decided to have warm food rather than a picnic but all was sorted with speed and efficiency. We can thoroughly recommend this place for lunch. Its position next to the river Trent is outstanding and the food is lovely too 👍

My friend and I went here for Breakfast on Saturday. Beautiful setting by the river. We were served by a wonderful young man called William, he was a delight, very polite, attentative, knowledgeable and friendly. My friend had a full English and I had eggs benedict with smoked salmon, the food was just as wonderful as the staff! Highly recommended this place if you are looking for fantastic customer service, freshly cooked food in a spotlessly clean, idyllic setting. Will absolutely be returning here again!

I really like this place. The setting is beautiful, the staff are without exception friendly and professional. Service is prompt and you are always made to feel welcome. The food is freshly prepared, so may take a little while if the place is busy. Not really a problem if you consider that this is a restaurant and not a cafe. Been there plenty of times over the last eighteen months, and have never had a reason to score the occasion anything less than 5 stars.

Had breakfast. Place totally empty except for 1 other person and plenty of staff. Beautiful restaurant.
