On first appearance and also with the slightly chaotic service, I thought that we were in for a long night... but I was surprised with the quality of the food. It turned out to be a great night with a very good meal, and value for money as well. It´s a restuarant for the locals of Notting Hill as opposed to a restaurant that you would make a visit to. Close to Ladbroke Grove tube station. Good lively atmosphere.

I got treated to a delicious 3 course meal here for my birthday and it did not disappoint. It's not easy to find halal French or Mediterranean food in London, so finding this was like hitting the jackpot. The food was delicious, from the Aubergine mille-feuille starter to my main of roasted corn-fed chicken breast with spinach cannelloni, gratin dauphinoise & tarragon sauce. And to finish off, the Tarte Tatin was just the perfect end to the meal. I’ve read other people’s mixed reviews of La Sophia,...

La Sophia is a cosy fusion restaurant which marries French and Mediterranean flavours. We decided to go for the fixed price menu with a steak dish and chef special - duck breast. The steak good as it was - wasn't out of this world. The duck breast however was a complex dish, was flavoursome and tasted great. The service was good although on one or two occasions I struggled to catch their eye. Would definitely recommend a visit.

The La Sophia team provided a great night out for 20 adults. We were celebrating a birthday and the chef provided a great cake on the night too. The Halal food made the night for many of us. We were not used to having so much choice on menus. The Halal Venison was my favourite. The food was great quality and many of our party are likely to revisit in the near future. The waiters were very patient given we had such a large party. The Chef even came out at the end of the evening to wish Happy Birthday. Sousan was very helpful and responsive while I was booking the night. All in all a good night in West London!

Fulfilled all the group's hopes for a pre-xmas reunion with a wine tasting and food pairing by a relative who has just completed a wine course. He had researched all the BYO restaurants in London. This place has a few drinks by the glass but not a whole wine list. However, they were able to supply bottle coolers and pourers. Our dessert was a matching of sweet wine with Tarte Tartin. The Tarte Tatin was wonderful. I have to admit I was surprised that we did not receive anything before the starter. The decor is dark and cosy. Children in a birthday party downstairs were away from us and our drink. The soup and chicken with potato were what I wanted. Did not taste much of the truffle oil mentioned on the menu. However the tarte tatin was wonderful and made a lovely ending to the meal. The service was faultless. They caught our eye from the back area whenever we looked up, came over, wrapped leftovers for a takeaway, served our wine in an ice bucket as requested, changed the drinks glasses, left us having a wonderful time with goodwill all round to our companions and the restaurant staff at the end.

Unimpressed with the food, I ordered lamb shoulder as a starter with Rib eye steak for mains. Both were dry, the complimenting sauce wasn't nice at all. A cocktail (non alcoholic) cost £5.50, I ordered a guava and mint cocktail which I saw them using Rubicon guava juice for!!! That was ridiculous! They also serve Just Juice for orange juice, if I knew this was the case I would never have ordered it. The staff were waiting for us to leave even before we had ordered as some of our group were late. This made the vibe a bit weird initially! Went here for my mothers birthday. On arrival the door was locked, which meant we were left outside for a few minutes looking through the window like 'whats going on' - slightly embarrassing. Nice warm welcome once they realised we were there though. Our waiter was friendly and very attentive. We ordered a couple of Mojitos which took about 15 minutes to arrive, probably because the restaurant was full. Drinks were just okay..not the best, not the worst. My mother had the non alcoholic Pina Colada which tasted kinda cheesy. We ordered calamari, artichoke soup and foie gras to start, all were delicious and portion sizes perfect. Mains were good also, rib eye steak was divine, as was the baked sea bass- although my boyfriend said it was a little on the small size. I ordered the rabbit which was a bit of a disappointment, I found it quite bland, tough and dry. I could only manage a few bites. I had serious food envy and wished I got the steak. The accompaniments were tasty, vegetables were nice and crunchy, how I like them.Over all, the meal was pretty good, flavoursome and cooked well (apart from the rabbit) We were all too full for desert.I would probably go back.Meal came to around £120 without wine.

I was looking for a restaurant in the Notting Hill area that could serve a party of 30. The staff (both restaurant manager and wait staff) were extremely informative and very helpful. From my first interaction via email to the end of the meal of my event, I was extremely pleased with La Sophia's performance.I inquired about my event online and came in for dinner to see what the food was like. I ask the waiter to make my wine selection for me and asked him to direct the chef to choose for me. I was completely blown away by the quality of food. I was informed the menu would change by the time my event was to take place but I was so impressed by the talent in the kitchen that I was excited to see the new menu. When Sousan sent me the menu for my event, I WAS SALIVATING: Jerusalem artichoke soup, roasted shallots & white truffle oil & foie grasAubergine mille-feuille, grilled hallomui, chilli, tomato concasse, pecan & parsley pesto (V)Fried calamari, lemon & chilli tartar sauceLamb shoulder croquette, soft herbs, cherry tomato salad & mustard aioliEscargot, garlic & parsley butter sauce (6)----------Tasting of summer vegetables, pearl couscous salad & green salsa (V)Linguine, prawns, baby squid, chilli, garlic & white sauceRoasted corn fed chicken breast & crispy wings cannelloni, spinach, gratin dauphinoise & tarragon sauceBeef tartare (minced raw beef), truffle, chopped shallots, mustard, poached egg & fritesFlame-grilled ribeye steak, watercress & green pepper corn & hand cut chips (Supplement +£4)----------Warm chocolate fondant & vanilla ice creamPoached pear, cardamom, green pistachios & violet ice creamSelection of sorbets or Ice-creamSelection of French & English cheeses, crackers & chutneyIt is incredibly rare to have a restaurant offer so many choices for such a large group (30) and I was extremely pleased to be able to offer a multitude of great choices for my guests. The service on the day was amazing; very friendly waitstaff and FAST food service. They even closed down the entire first floor of the restaurant so we could really relax in the space. If you're a foodie, VISIT LA SOPHIA! For the price, you're getting amazing quality. The chef obviously has some amazing talent and the food is better than some Michelin starred restaurants. I can't recommend this place more highly! As for the other reviewers, I'm totally shocked to see such outrageous claims! Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I would HIGHLY suggest approaching the waitstaff with your complaints before going online and complaining! The staff is very accommodating, and if you didn't like the wine or food, I'm sure they'd rectify the situation immediately.

We decided to go to this "french" restaurant based on the reviews we read on trip advisor. The photos on their website certainly look good but don't trust this scam.We were 2 french guys and one italian and if the menu does sound french the quality of the food and cooking is nowhere near. It started with the bottle of wine we ordered, the waitress served us a glass of wine to taste it. I have never witnessed anyone actually refusing a bottle in a restaurant but this time we did and prefered not to take the risk of ordering another one. Seriously it was corrosive. As of the food, I ordered the Escargots as starter and wish I hadn't ordered the main course as soon as I tasted them. I didn't manage to eat more than half of the snales and It was the same story for the main course.I have spent a year in the french army and can confidently say that the food was better there. At the end of the lunch, we were starving and had to go to another restaurant.Save your money and preserve your palate, there are many many great places in London!

We went to have dinner here recently and to begin with, thought the place looked a little run down, but it got better later in the dimmer light. The food was quite good, though I'm vegetarian and there weren't many options for me. The owner, who served us, was extremely friendly and helpful, so the atmosphere was good, and he helped us to select a good wine which we enjoyed. The bill was quite expensive for the sort of place it is, for what we had and for its difficult location, so I doubt I shall return, but on the whole it was a positive experience.

I first learned about this restaurant via social media contact and decided our group should give it ago as they were advertising BYO when ordering their 3 course Prie Fixe menu Sunday to FRiday. It’s a small French restaurant in Notting Hill situated off the North side of Portobello road Its location is pleasantly quiet, its hidden and not easy to locate. The dining room is airy and the decor is lovely with their wooden designed. The food here is extremely good . You can’t go wrong with the Prie Fixe menu as it has taste for all, dishes for all as well with a really good vegetarian dish the aubergine. The stand out was the Grilled marinated lamb tenderloin with pomegranate and barley. This was mouth-watering the flavours were different but went well. There Stuffed free range chicken breast with mushroom duxelles, creamy mash & truffle was divine. It’s so different but amazing combinations of flavours. There desserts were limited but the manager let us have the apple tart from their a al carte at no extra charge. They use high quality ingredients with all their dishes and the entire group noted this, but with unique combination is what we loved best with friendly service but yet very professional The waiters speak French, and the owner is a delightful man, with a passion in his food, We had a group of 8 people on the BYO with no corkage charge it was such a bargain. You have to pay a small supplement for the steak & cheese which we didn’t mind. We spent a good 3 hours enjoying our meal. Its a real find La Sophia that it seems many are not aware about. Go there and taste it for yourself you won’t be disappointed!

I went to La Sophia first time with a £35 Groupon voucher. The food was very small portion but ok. I did not like my dessert, which was some fried pineapple. The service was very bad and very slow. I asked for a glass of water, at the time of ordering the drinks. The drinks came but no water. I asked again. They took a very long time to bring the food to us but still no sign of the glass of water. I had to ask again! Then after a while, there comes my glass of water. Just because I ordered (free) tap water, I had to wait a very long time. If I had ordered bottled mineral water which I had to pay for then I don’t think I would’ve had to wait long. How pathetic!Waiting for the bill took forever. When the bill came they added a 12.5% service charge! What a cheek, the service was awful and they expected us to pay a tip! Outrageous!! When we asked to take the service charge off our bill, they had the nerve to ask didn't we like their service? I said no but the food was ok! I did not leave a tip because of their awful service. If I didn’t have the Groupon voucher and had to pay full price then I would’ve been very, very disappointed. I am never going back, even if I had a voucher.

Was very much looking forward to lunch at this place, total of 5 of us, we travelled across London for halal french cuisine after having seen a 50% off set menu special offer. We showed the waiter the deal we had seen on the website (actually showed him the deal on my phone, which he then took to his manager) even with this proof he came back and said 'we're not doing that anymore, and it's not like you have an email confirmation or anything, if you wanted the deal you should ring head office' What a stupid joke, the deal was 50% off set menu, only during 13:00- 15:hrs on a Saturday and before 31st January advertised on top tables, even after having fulfilled all those conditions we didn't get the deal. That really ruined the meal for us, there was only one other couple in the restuarant at the time, the place was dead, no atmosphere. We waited a long time to be served and overall was an unpleasant experience. Won't ever go back.

My sister and I went to this restaurant on a Saturday night in January. The restaurant is very close to Portbello Road and has ample parking in front and around the corner. Free after 6pm (i think). We arrived for out 8.30 booking and were given a table downstairs as upstairs had reached full capacity. The restaurant has French/Arabian decor with dim lighting which gave it a kind of ambient feel. We saw couples, large group of friends and families from a variety of nationalities having dinner, the atmosphere was good. The restaurant is clean, with well laid out tables and a characteristic feel to it. The old French music playing, wasn't to my taste but contributed to the ambient feel.We were greeted at the door by the smiling waiter and shown to our table straight away. We were given menus and shortly asked if we were ready to order and received our drinks in good time shortly followed by the starter. We both had the calmari (around £8), which was cooked perfectly, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The accompanying sauce was delicious and the presentation was fine dining too. For mains we both had the steak and hand cooked chips (around £22). Again the food was well presented and cooked for good taste, the hand cooked chips were chunky and delightful. The steak was cooked to perfection and came with a delicate butter sauce. We ordered our dessert which came a short break after the main. The warm fondant with ice cream (around £7) was really nice, filling with quality vanilla ice cream and not too rich. I asked to change my scoop for the coconut sorbet which wasn't any trouble and tasted divine.I loved the fact that we were treated really well despite using a Groupon, compared to other restaurants where I have used a Groupon before. Also that the manager came to ask if everything was ok. The waiter's were all polite and helpful. We didn't have to pay service charge if we didn't want to (no hassle whatsoever) and lastly that the food was halal and they offered non-alcoholic wine.On the not so good side, downstairs was a bit cold, the ladies room was tiny and the restaurant is not well lit up from the outside so took a while to find! Other than that, it's been one of my best Groupon experiences.Overall, excellent value for money, great service and good food. Would recommend 100%.

We ate here on a Saturday evening from the set menu with three choices for starter and main courses. The starter star was aubergine with fried halloumi which was truly mouthwatering. Mains were fine with the towers of pink lamb being our favourite. Good selection of wines and reasonably priced. Fairly busy with a good atmosphere. Service friendly and prompt. 1st visited this restaurant on a groupon deal with a table of four. Fantastic first time round but I wasn't sure if this was down to the novelty of being able to eat food I've never had: steak tartare, rabbit, non-alcholic wine.I recently visited the restaurant again for a work Christmas dinner after i noticed the great value Christmas menu. A party of ~20 persons of various nationalities and ages including several Frenchmen, I knew it would be a tough crowd to please. The off the track location surprised some (the walk from westbourne park station feels slightly seedy, come from ladbroke grove for a marginally better walk if these things matter to you!). Table setup in the main room which was fine. Colleagues loved the ambience and the decor which included plenty of tinsel but not garish. I do admit it was slightly on the cool side but i was the only one to notice.Organisation of the meal was 1st class though i think this had more to do with our team assistant who had wisely printed off what everyone was having and which was verified.Starters: butternut squash soup was lauded by the soup lovers. Some nice hot rolls to go but no butter oddly. The halloumi and aubergine was equally well received: really nicely spiced and seasoned.Mains: my lamb steak was wonderful, meat falling off the bone. The accompanying rosemary jus could have had more oomph to it but what do i know. My colleagues stuffed chicken breast was so different in taste but fantastically so. The turkey was judged to be moist and cooked perfectly according to my American colleague ( no higher praise possible?!). The brussel sprouts got a mention too. The vegtble risotto was well received and a taste of it confirmed why; creamy but fresh.Desserts: christmas pudding not too heavy and even the French who had a go approved. Portion size throughout the meal was spot on as several of my colleagues noted. The chocolate fondant was enjoyed by all. Of the three courses i'd say the desserts were the least applauded but probably because the courses before had satisfied.Drinks: cocktail was appreciated by all. I was "worried" the wine that came with the Xmas menu would be berated by my French colleagues but that was not the case.Service was efficient, friendly and well timed. No complaints there! All in all, a grand time was had by all. The next day, members of my department sung praise about La Sophia. Interesting to note that an earlier review said the food was greasy but one of my colleagues stated the opposite that the food felt fresh and not greasy at all as so often is the norm according to her. Id say go judge for yourself, especially if you eat only halal.Improvements can always be made; i didn't have the chance to thank Chef Ali and his team but i think this underrated place is a bit of a gem!

I booked a table for this restaurant for 20 people for a surprise party, i sent out the invites and was very much looking forward to it as I am heavily pregnant and this would have beeen one of the last times I could go out stress free. The reservation was confirmed via email by both La Sophia and the external company I used. I recieved a call from a mobile number at 19:30 in the evening 2 days later claiming to be the restaurant asking for a £100 deposit. There was no mention of this on the website or on the external website. If this was written on the website then I would have had no problem giving the money to them...this was not the case. I was not willing to give my credit card details over the phone to someone I didnt know who was calling out of hours and on a mobile phone. The lady I spoke to, who claimed her name was sharon in the evening said she would speak to the manager Ali the next day and get back to me. Rather, then a call I received a cancellation email, I called to speak to Ali and I was told by the same lady (as I recognised her voice) who then said her name was Sarah and that she was the manager. Started to shout abuse saying she does not want people like me at her restaurant etc, to the extent my colleague in a seperate office popped his head round to see what was happening because her voice was echoing from my phone....I have never been treated so horribly and with such bad customer service. I work in a big cooperation and on deals with clients worth millions of pounds within the F1 industry, if I ever spoke to someone how she did to me I would have been kicked out of my job a long time ago. I have dined in many a nice restaurants, hakassan, Nobu, Bob Bob Ricard, and have never ever been spoken to like that. Its appaling and disgusting and Im shocked someone like that is at the front house. They would have made more than £400 that night from my party, but because of such disgusting behaviour I will never ever set foot in an establishment like that. And, if I was Ali I would really consider who I am employing.

I ordered a 3 course set meal which was at a good price. The artichoke soup with truffle oil was one of the best soups I have eaten and the herb crusted lamb was also great. For dessert I had the apple tarte tatin which was tasty but lacked depth. The mash potato from the chicken and mushroom dish was smooth however did not comprise much taste which was disappointing. Despite the food the service, ambience (great for a romantic dinner) and music were good though only one (enjoyable) french song was played throughout the night. Overall a great experience

We visited with a 3 course Groupon deal where you can pick any starter/main/desert from the a la carte menu. There wasn't much of a range of fish dishes to choose from so I ended up with confit duck and my wife had seafood linguini. What we had was well presented, very nice indeed and plenty of it. In fact, I was so full after the first 2 courses, I couldn't manage a whole desert so I ordered a desert wine instead. The fact that this was cheaper than the cheapest desert which I didn't actually have cut no ice with them. They still charged extra for the desert wine and added service on top which is levied on the food&drink value at menu prices - not your groupon deal price. Even so, it's still good value.

A very pleasant evening at La Sophia. Six of us on a busy Saturday night were very well served by good, attentive staff. Good value, we had the Prie Fixe menu 2 course for £19.50 Amazing jerusalem soup, steak was at high quality, Portions of a good size, food well presented and hot and very good. A good wine list would highly recommend this restaurant.

I got a voucher through groupon for 2x 3 course meal for £35.Beautiful food and was great value.Only slight moan is that the bill added a 12.5% service charge on what the total cost of what the food would of cost. With the £20 prosecco we bought, the service charge was over £12 for 2 of us. As optional we never paid all and left £5 tip which was more reasonable.

I found this restaurant online and was looking forward to going just by the menus. The restaurant didn't disappoint! We were a party of three and we all managed to have completely different dishes all of which were delicious and beautifully presented - and very reasonably priced too.The restaurant is very attractively decorated, we had a very warm welcome and were given the right amount of attention and service throughout. The owner was a lovely man who we got chatting to afterwards. We saw online that they don't charge corkage on a Thursday but we used a Gourmet society card so couldn't combine that with their offer -which was fair enough so no complaints. In fact, we'll all be going back again together and with other friends. There were so many other dishes that I liked the look of so I'm really looking forward to going again. From what I can remember of my school-days French - C'est très, très bon!!

A group of friends and I got lured here by the 50% off deal and some decent reviews (I can only assume they went to a different restaurant or there was a different chef in that night). The food was MASSIVELY overpriced even after the 50% off- They'd obviously hiked up prices to accomodate it and lure people in. Our food was overcooked, greasy and tasteless. The service was terrible. The surley waiter refused to serve us items on the set menu, as it wasnt part of the deal, even when we suggested that we could pay extra on top. The atmopshere was also pretty terrible - Most customers were feeling as dissatisfied as us and the restaurant was half full.I would never go back here again, let alone recommend it to anyone.

I'm quite surprised at the negative reviews on here! I really love La Sophia, I have been there about 3-4 times now and had a great evening each time. This was the first place I ate risotto and it was amazing, the asparagus and duck egg (I think?) starter was delicious. I have to agree with what people say here in that the location is less than ideal. I would eat here a lot more but I live in East London and it is a loooong trek there and back. Still, I will definitely go for special occasions, just for the risotto :)

Food was very very average, something you can eat in any odd restaurant. Service was "just about normal". There was no air conditioning. deco was that of a caffette near a train station. We were so suprised when we got out of the taxi and walked into this small romantic restaurant. We were delighted to see how friendly the young waiter was with his knowledge on the food and wine. The soup is to die for Jerusalem artichoke and the rabbit two ways was so delicious I'm still thinking about it. Any one that eats out in fine dinning would taste the fresh ingredients that is cooked to perfection. We can't wait to return to try the other dishes and would highly recommend La Sophia to all.

We found that we were not allowed the discount, and was very disappointed with the way it was dealt with as the food was again divine. We havent been back since, which is a shame.

The food was nice, small portions, but anyway it was all let down completley by the service. We watched other customers get their wine refilled. We got our entrees is super fast time, but they were slow to clear. We waited with dirty dessert dishes, empty wine glasses and empty water glasses as they walked passed ignoring us for 15 minutes. We refused to pay the service charge, that service is the worst I have had in this country. And when I emailed this morning to let them know where their downfalls were - so that they could improve, or apologise, I got an abusive email back from them, ending with, if you dont like the way we work go somewhere else. We had a Groupon voucher so only paid £35 for three courses exclusive of drinks and tip which is a very good deal. The location was disappointing and left me apprehensive about the restaurant, however when we got there it was nice Moroccan/French decor, nothing fancy but pleasant. There is plenty of free parking along the main road on weekends which is great.I went with my mum and we had snails and aubergine salad for starters, my mum loved the snails however the aubergine was only one slice and extremely oily, with some mixed herbs and rocket salad with some deep fried cheese sticks on top- was not very impressed. However the mains redeemed the whole dinner experience, both dishes; duck and lamb were very, very nice, rich, flavoursome and tasty, we ordered 'seasonal veg' aka green beans as a side. For dessert we both opted for chocolate mouse cake with chocolate sorbet - it was delicious and packed with flavour! We had a great time and the food was of a good standard and tasty, service pleasant and attentive, I would recommend it and would definitely go again if I had a Groupon voucher, otherwise not sure I'd pay nearly £90 for three courses for two of us, not with service and drinks on top of that too!

Spent last Thursday night at La Sophia and it was a wonderful way to end balmy summer's day. We started with the green apple, asparagus & crab salad, had the prawn linguini for a main and then the green apple, passionfruit and mint sorbet for desert. Both myself and my friend enjoyed every dish, my favourite was the the prawn linguini, it was just made to perfection, but hey I loved the desert as well as it was such a nice way to leave the palate feeling. Having been to Paris a number of times, we were delighted by the menu with so many typical French meals, and were pleased to see that they were well prepared. The atmosphere was cosy and pleasant - maybe some classic French songs would be good. We were a bit let down by the service though. The gentleman seemed to be less interested to serve us due to us having a Groupon voucher but the lady was very nice and we could easily communicate in French with her.

At first I wasn't sure how good the experience at La Sophia would be, because the usual norm for most of the French restaurants I had been to in the past would be to serve very small portions for very high prices. Even though the prices were a little steep, we went for it because we had a discount voucher. I was in the mood to be a little adventurous and ended up ordering the rabbit for the first time. All I can say is that for a first-time experience, it was perfect. The marinade sauce was amazing and the meat was cooked perfectly. My partner ordered the rack of ribs, and the lamb was extremely tender and cooked perfectly. I will definitely recommend La Sophia to anyone.

We went to La Sophia on a Thursday evening with a Groupon voucher and we had a very good experience. The deal was for a three course meal. We had steak tartare and scallops for starter which we both enjoyed as much as we enjoyed the mains, swordfish with lentils and steak. The portions are perfect and the cooking of the steak was as requested. Unfortunately the desert was a bit disapointing, we both chose the chocolate mousse cake and it was a bit hard and lacked some flavour. Service was very good, the waiter was attentive but not pushy. Tip: If it is not a warm day, avoid the table by the window as air is coming through and it gets chilly.

My partner and I went to La Sophia on Friday evening, and had a lovely relaxed tasty meal. The restaurant is quite small, but didn't feel at all over-crowded. The staff were very lovely and helpful. Not hugely friendly, but professional and on the ball. The food was very tasty. I had fish cake started, which was good. And we both had the lamb as a main, which was delicious. The desserts were alright, not great, but we were so full at that point that it didn't matter (we were having a 3-course meal, so dessert was included). The bread was worth mentioning, as it was melt-in-your-mouth fresh, and came with a really nicely flavoured oil for dipping. We were there from 8pm until 11 and never felt rushed. We were there on a Groupon and for the price we paid, it was a very good deal. If we had paid full price, I would say it's on the expensive side, and would not recommend the deserts. But out starters and main courses were lovely. It was a nice place to go for a tasty meal - not too fancy, not too shabby.

The food was delicious and the portions were perfect. Scallops were just divine, and cooked perfectly, presented well. Steak was cooked to requested at a high standard of quality. My partners chicken was great as well. We were on a promotion so we were lucky to get a discount. This is the second time I have eaten at La Sophia, and it was long overdue. The first time was to savour their Christmas menu as a family treat. This time is was a meal for two with my husband. We booked a table on Last Minute.com and were greeted by a really friendly waitress. The place looked warm and cosy this time, after being refurbished. As I wear a Muslim headscarf, we were immediately given the alcohol-free wine list, which was really nice of them. We tried the alcohol-free Merlot, and I have to say it was delicious. Whilst we ordered we were presented with bread rolls and herbs with olive oil. My husband was licking his lips and cooing even before we ordered our food. My husband had the Set-Menu and I ordered from the A La Carte. We shared a plate of scallops, which were just delicious. For main I had Venison and he had Rib Eye steak. The Venison was just amazing........truly divine. The Rib eye steak was very tender and well cooked, but perhaps needed a dash more seasoning. We ended our meal with Almond creme brulee, which was just amazing. Overall, the food was beautifully cooked, well presented and served with a smile. The service was not over fussy and the restaurant overall is somewhere really sweet for a romantic meal. For any Muslims looking for a high quality halal restaurant, then this is the place. This place can compete alongside any haute-cuisine establishment, but is not pretentious or alienating. Its warm and inviting. I would highly recommend and we will be back again soon!

I don't know if we just caught them on a bad day, since all the other reviews here say they got good service, but I came home tonight feeling very disappointed and frankly quite irritated with the experience we had at this restaurant this evening. The food, overall, was nice. Small portions, high prices, feels like it's trying to be "fine dining", but it's far from that. The food tasted good and my starter of scallops was perfectly cooked, but we went here as a Groupon deal, and I have to say, I would never go there if we had to pay full price. The desserts menu was a particular disappointment, and my partner's chocolate tart looked like a child had made it. Plus, the pastry was horribly thick. The service, on the other hand... The waiters were lovely and friendly, but it was painfully slow. We were there for a total of 2 hours, and probably only spent 30 minutes of that eating. I could have forgiven them if the reason for the slow service was how very busy they were, but we arrived at 6pm, their opening time, and for the first 20 minutes we were the only people in the restaurant. The first 10 minutes of that we were sitting at our table with our menus, with no offer of drinks, and when the waiter finally arrived it was to take our entire order, with the drinks as an afterthought. The starters came fast, but after having finished eating them, we waited another 15 minutes for our plates to be cleared away, and this continued as the theme for the rest of the evening. One particular waiter walking around, who seemed as though he may have been the manager, seemed to think he was too important to undertake the lowly duty of clearing plates, and continually walked by and ignored us. Eventually, he came to take them away, and I asked for a glass of tap water - this did not arrive until we were halfway through eating our main courses. We ordered our desserts, but after having taken the order, our waiter came back and told us they didn't actually have that item and they were now serving something else in its place. I would usually expect to be told this before ordering, particularly when there were only about 5 things on the menu. There were 2 changes made to the main menu that we were informed of when we sat down, but the couple next to us were not told about these, and ended up trying to order the ostrich that they no longer serve. Don't think it's too much to expect for them to either change their menu, or make certain they tell everybody of any changes before orders are made. After having been told I could not have what I had ordered for dessert, I was undecided as to what to have instead, so the waiter suggested I see if I liked what my partner had ordered when it came, and if so, he would bring another one. So, the chocolate tart arrived, I didn't like it after one mouthful, and by the time the waiter arrived back to ask me what I was now going to choose for my own dessert, my partner had already finished his, and I had to wait again and then eat by myself. Finally, when we asked for the bill, it was promptly delivered to our table, yet we sat for another 15 minutes waiting for somebody to come and take our payment. I caught the eye of one of the waiters at one point and he asked if we were ok, I indicated we wished to pay, he went back to the kitchen area, and then came back out and just continued to serve other people and/or stand at the till looking around. Eventually, I ended up standing and taking the payment card with our bill over to him so that we could just pay and leave. All I can say is, it's a good job we didn't have any plans afterwards - we would never have got there in time!Would not recommend and would not go here again. There are far better places in London, that are in better locations with more reasonable prices and better service.

First the good news. The service - just one waiter (no need for more - perhaps a quiet Tuesday evening) - was good. As for the food - the creme brulee was OK. The King Prawn starter for around £10 was kind of OK - the prawns were squishy, not firm and fresh tasting as one might expect, but the sauce was alright. Then there was the Ostrich - over £20 for meat which after some reflection reminded me of something which I would find in the steak and kidney pies served up in the school meals of my youth. The crude brown sauce was an entirely fitting accompaniment, and the two pieces of asparagus in batter had been cooked until well and truly dead in a manner to make any 1960's school chef blush with pride. The place is a curiousity - located in a rather grotty appendage of Notting Hill, within shouting distance of that other curious appendage of the 1960s - the Trellick Tower, and near a shop named "Les Couilles du Chien". Such a location is no reason to be critical, but the restaurant seems to reflect the oddness of its location. Upon entry at about 19:40 on a Tuesday evening the restaurant was empty apart from one waiter and a slight odd, vaguely musty smell. The music was all Parisian and Piaf, and constantly repeated, but the decor was distinctly middle-eastern, merely overlaid by a thin veneer of things French. As Groupon customers we ended up paying around £76 including service and a bottle of wine, less 'fortunate' folk would have paid £108.

When we discovered La Sophia we were eager to try this new French restaurant on Golborne Road. From the time we stepped in we were treated well, with smiles and also welcomed. Once we looked at the menu its not a long menu but something for all.The beef tartare is a must, as I try this at most French restaurants if offered and it was amazing, the best I have had. My partner with for the Prawns she said it was cooked well, tasted lovely. As for our mains we both choose the two way lamb as we love our meat and once again we were impressed. My partner had the brulee said it was very tasty. The staff know the menu well and the wine list is at good value. I went to La Sophia with a friend with a internet deal so we had a 50% discount on the a la carte. We were expecting a nice French meal. We chose the foie gras and duck egg, which was just a slice of fresh foie gras and a fried duck egg. For 13.50 I was expecting a bit more finesse to the dish. the mains were as disappointing (I had the ostrich with asparagus gratin), lacking sofistication and flavour; the ostrich steak was overcooked, on the whole, very fatty and dry. The dessert was also disappointing. The service was very poor. Although we were the first in the restaurant we had to wait 20 min before a waiter came to our table. They didn't know anything about the content of the dishes and even less about wines. I am French and for me this was not French cuisine. On the whole I was very disappointed and even at half price it was not worth it. Go to Cote Brasserie, it's half the price and the food is nicer with a better service!

Read some rave reviews of this place so decided to try it out. Shouldn't have...It advertises itself as being in Notting Hill Gate. Technically it might well be within the borders, not sure, but it is not the area I associate with Notting Hill. The food was at best OK, seemed possibly pre-prepared and poorly warmed up to me, perhaps microwaved. I had the snails to start. Half way through our meal (went for Sunday lunch) a guy started cleaning the windows, so we had to move to make room. And swiftly onto the prices - Gordon Ramsey would be proud here. For £40-50 per head I honestly expected more. Much more.Later on found that they had a half price offer, but to be frank even with that on board, I would still find the place overpriced. Sorry, I wont be going back here.

I was attracted to purchased a deal offered by KBG for La Sophia Restaurant in Notting Hill. It was £29 for 2 people having 2 course meal. Since I never experienced dining in the vicinity of Notting Hill in London, I was really eagered to have one with my wife. Upon searching the location of the restaurant, it was li'l bit strange coz the location of the restaurant seems not as what I expected. We went there for a dinner around 7-8pm in the evening and as we walk going to the restaurant, we pass by in a very quiet and strange street with strange looks of people. It seems that we were not in Notting Hill; it seems that we're in zone 3 to 6 of London. But anyway, I might got freaky on how to get there I was still looking forward on our dining experience. Upon arrival, we were greeted by one and the only staff I think they've got. Luke warm and still strange reception from him. The place is weird but unique but still I've still got the strange feeling because we're the first and only dining customers they've got on that time. Im trying to be cool in front of my wife coz this is the first time I've got this strange ambience and feelings and just ask her to order for her cocktails. My wife ordered a Mojito while I just ordered glass of red wine. The one and only waiter gave justice to the taste and presentation of Mojito that's why my wife ordered twice of it.For the food we ordered these items:STARTERS: French Onion Soup with Gruyere Cheese AND Fried Duck Egg with Seared Foie Gras, Toasted Brioche & Truffle Béarnaise MAINS: Grilled 10oz Ribeye Steak with House Salad, Thick Chips & Peppercorn Sauce AND Oven Toasted French Trimmed Rack of Lamb with Crispy Lamb Tongue, Crushed Potato with Herbs Oil & Rosemary JusFrench Onion Soup was fine but the Foie Gras with the Duck Egg taste weird... I don't know but I tasted Foie Gras many time but the taste seems stench for me. Maybe because of the Duck Egg or whatsoever...With regards to the mains, the steak is like what other restaurant offers - nothing special. But the Rack of Lamb disappointed me... I'm expecting a "PROPER TRIMMED RACK OF LAMB" because of the price and how they named it on the menu but instead they used ordinary lamb chops like what we're seeing in Morrison or Sainsbury's. but anyway, the lamb was presented in a nice plating and it tastes good anyway but still nothing special. As far as I remember, we dont have desserts anymore... Upon closing our bill, the Manager presented our bill to us after few minutes. I was shocked when I looked at our bill.... Apart from £29 that I already pre-paid, for just only 2 Mojitos and a glass of house white and red wine our bill came to £59... I couldn't imagine how it ended our bill like this. And I realize that in computation of the bill they also included the £29 I prepaid that's why taxes gone high and service charge gone high as well. This is the first and last time I will go here coz of our experiences in La Sophia on that night. If I knew that this kind of hocus pocus will happen to us then I would rather eat in Mayfair or Central London with the same price and better quality of food and service... With £90 for that experience is like throwing your £90 into the bin... I can cook better foods with better ingredients and presentable well tasting cocktails and exemplary service with this amount of money. But anyway, I learned my lesson here.I am not telling those tripadvisor review readers not to go in La Sophia in Notting Hill, I am just sharing it with you guys my odd experience with my wife. My dining experience might be an isolated case but better if you will see and experience it and judge it by yourself...

I came here for lunch with a collegue having seem some positive reviews online. The place was absolutely empty apart from us.Firstly, we were presented with the al a carte menu and had to ask for the lunch menu. King prawns to start was tasty, but had what looked like a black arm hair in. My colleague had quail, which was tasteless.Mains were much more impressive. My steak and chips was decent and a asparagas risssotto very tasty. Cheese board to share was very stange, including what looked like an entire pack of that cheap stilton with cranberry stuff which I hate and has no place on a decent cheese board selection. When the bill came i nearly passed out with shock. I dont think La Sophia quite knows what it is. But i dont know one thing, I shant be going back.

Went to this restaurant for a surprise for my boyfriends birthday as he wanted rossini which is very difficult to find in London. I pre ordered this meal and when we arrived they knew all about this. The staff were really friendly although I was a bit confused as 3 different staff members were waiting on our table. Were given lovely fresh bread rolls to start with, we ordered king prawns as a starter and it was really lovely probably the best out of all 3 courses.I ordered chicken with frois gras, risotto cake and beans really delicious, however the mushroom sauce was the same sauce used for the rossini. My boyfriend did really enjoy his meal although it was not the same as he has had 3 times before and was slightly disappointed. The waiters were a bit confused with what we had ordered but assured us that rossinin can often be served differently. It would have been nice if the chef would have come out at this point as the staff were not entirely sure on the dish themselves. We orderd two glasses of champagne but found this a bit expensive at £10 a glass - for desert we both had banoffee pie and this was really tastey.Overall I found the food really lovely but a bit too expensive as there were a few short cuts used, the decor looked a bit dated and not as good as it looks on line. The area of the restaurant really lets it down as it is not in the good part of portoballa and right next to massive concrete council flats.I wouldn't go again just because of the area and found it too expensive.

What a strange location for such an amazing restaurant. Some of the best food I've ever had in London. Great service, attentive and friendly, not at all snobbish - a very cosy atmosphere.Loved it.

Invited by friends, La Sophia is a revelation, at long last a warm & cosy local restaurant. The service was discreet and friendly. La Sophia is both elegant and relaxed. What really matters though, is the food and that was just delicious. We had an exquisite Halloumi salad - which I will try and recreate - followed by a delicate pasta dish, delightful & flavoursome. My daughter also had a chocolate tart to die for. Will be returning.

The cheese souffle I had as a starter had failed to rise and had the consistancy of dough. When I complained they were unable to produce a replacement and instead they brought a dish of prawns and charged me for the difference in price. The "crispy" red snapper I had as a main course was more like poached and the new potatoes were cold and tasteless. The Lamb that a friend ordered and had asked for it to be medium rare was over cooked with no pinkness in the meat at all.I eat out regularly in London and this was my worst experiences in a very long time.

This was our second visit and yet again we were not disappointed. The staff are friendly, helpful and professional. Nothing was too much trouble, Olivier the new Maitre d' was quite charming. They even provided a "meal" for our 8 month granddaughter! The scallops were delicious, the lamb melted in your mouth and the chocolate fondant was to die for. Can't wait to go back

As promised ,this is my review. On a hot day last week,we passed by LA SOPHIA on our way to portobello market, the place was half full and the big window was fully open.so it attracted us somehow,we took a look at the lunch menu it was simple and nice unlike the more sophisticated dinner menu.We went in,greeted by a smiley staff,we were lucky to get the table by the window as it felt like been half in the street and half in the restaurant, the warm bread was to die for, white wine was nicely chilled and my calamaris were just so tasty and soft not chewy at all, followed by lamb cutlets they were just fine but not better than my husbands steak as it was argentinian and full of natural flavour. The decoration was anything but french.it was more italian.moorish.The music was a bit inadequate for the place it was some colonial jazz that was full of trumpets gigs maybe good for an outdoor sunday brunch but certainly not for the restaurant! The toilets were amazing!!!! unique with tadelakt plastering and fancy bassins.I would definitely come back for dinner, the menu was so tempting.

On business. I naively believed that even in a hotel restaurant ( which is never normally exceptional) that Mushroom soup starter & Spaghetti Bolognese you can’t go wrong . At this place you can! Soup turned up with a desert spoon… apparently they had no soup spoons ( unbelievable) & the two bread rolls were stale… mushroom soup definitely pre heated microwave stuff. Spaghetti Bollognaise …watery at the bottom…. Suggesting microwave mince and get this…. No accompanying Parmesan cheese. When I asked for it.. chef said we have no Parmesan!! But do have some chopped up bits of chedder cheese!! Incredible!!! My advice? Don’t bother.. even if your dog tired … go out to a restaurant that depends on quality to enable it to continue business…. This place was a joke to eat in. Room was good 342 on 28-2-24 , staff nice and polite.. but Humphrey’s restaurant get drinks for sure but give the food a miss.
