I have been visiting this bistro bar for many years and have always had a lovely experience. Admittedly around the Christmas period they are extremely busy and perhaps needed more staff on board. However the staff are very friendly, delicious food(highly recommend the escalopes&pasta) & great selection of beers and wine. The bistro/bar has a very traditional authentic feel and is unique to the area. I would highly recommend this place and have only had good experiences here !!!! Simone Mcglade

Couldn't agree more with John F. Rude and disinterested staff. To add insult to the whole experience staff had been walking around the downstairs bar for at least three hours offering free pizza and chicken escalopes (presumably the same pizza we paid for). Might be ok for an expensive beer but would not advise eating there.

Ten members of my family were in London for a wedding at a nearby venue. My sister who acted as the organiser (her son was the bridegroom) reserved a table for ten people on Friday 21st December ten weeks prior to the event. The original booking was for 8.00pm but the day before the restaurant telephoned her asking that we arrive earlier if possible and suggested that 7.00pm would be more convenient. We duly arrived at 7.00pm and were shown to a rather shabby dining room over the pub below - but before the menus were even delivered we were informed that we had to be gone within two hours maximum, that apart from pizzas and a couple of portions of chicken there was nothing else available, and there were no starters or desserts available as they were closing for Christmas just as soon as they could get rid of us. Had there not been 10 of us we would have left but the chances of getting a table for 10 on the Friday before Christmas without a reservation being virtually nil we decidd a pizza was better than nothing. We ordered some beers and a couple of bottles of overpriced wine. These arrived but no one had the slightest interest in taking an order so we decided what we wanted and one of our number went to find someobne to take the order. They asked if salads would be available with the pizzas and when th epizzas finally arrived they had managed to scrape together four small plates of (presumably) left over leaves. The pizzas themselves were OK but coffees were not even offered - just a bill for around £350 plus (wait for this) a thirty odd pound 'service charge' You really couldn't make this up. We refused to pay the service charge and some of our party felt we should refuse to pay the entire bill. However, we were there for a wedding the next day and didn't want the aggravation so we paid the bill and left. Not a word of apology was forthcoming. I'm no spring chicken and eat out regularly but this is by a country mile the worst dining experience I have ever encountered - and I can only warn other diners that at this establishment a reservation is not worth the paper it's printed on.

Perfect for after work drinks or a lunchtime catch up. The food is amazing, the staff always go the extra mile In the evenings you are treated to free pizza slices and chicken strips if you are drinking in the bar.

This is like a 'Cheers' Bar in the City (Everyone one knows your name) - very friendly staff and wonderful Birra Moretti on draught. Great food too.

Food was fabulous but environment of the restaurant was something else... we was there on friday evening, we had impression that is was a self service restaurant, bcause if we won't came to the bar to pay our bill, no one will bother obot that at all, and the manager i think of that restaurant with short blond hairs was completely drunk, she had no clue what is going around, even she couldn't understand what we asking about...

I recently held a business meeting in this pub / restaurant and have been pleasantly surprised by the service and the food. If you find yourself in the bar between about 5pm and 8pm, the bar staff will generally be cooking free food (eg. pizza slices, chicken nuggets, chicken wings) and bringing them round to you to make sure you carry on drinking but won't get too drunk. The bar prices are reflective of this "free" food and can be a little high (eg. £6 per pint), but this is to expected for a pub in the City.

I have been a few times now to La Piazzetta and its always the same very tasty chicken, and decent pizza however the service is very slow. Worth the wait however.

Good pizza and a glass of red wine, and then another glass of red wine. Very friendly service. Just introduced to the place by a friend and I will happily return in the new year.

I've never posted a review on here before but what happened at lunch today takes some beating so thought it might be worth sharing with anyone who might be interested....I went to the bar to order some food and drinks. My friend cannot drink alcohol during work hours and so I ordered him a lime and soda (I was then going to order myself a beer and us both some lunch)...Before I had a chance to finish my order the owner/bartender starts voicing his displeasure at the fact we had the audacity to order a soft drink. He first complained he makes no profit on soft drinks (which is funny because EVERYONE knows the mark up on soft drinks is higher than that on alcohol). He then told us that "this is a pub, we don't serve that kind of thing here"....and finally to cap it all off when I asked him whether he was actually being serious he suggested that we both should leave. He was rude, dismissive and weirdly quite aggressive.At the very least this experience was baffling but in actual fact it was quite embarrassing for my both myself and my friend (being asked to leave a restaurant whilst stone cold sober) given there was a group of people we know stood directly behind us.What compounds the issue is that this must be about the 100th time we've been to this restaurant!! (we go for the breaded chicken. I hate to say it but it is pretty nice - although it should be for how much they charge). Not only has this guy ridded himself of some pesky regular customers happy to pay more than £5 a pint, he's also prompted me to post my first ever trip advisor review!) Now had I been less hungry/thirsty/annoyed I would have enquired as to whether he would refuse to serve soft drinks to a pregnant lady/recovering alcoholic/someone taking anti-biotics/someone under 18/should I keep going?...but instead we were asked to leave with a dismissive wave of his hand He did give us the opportunity to "Fine, start again" but given he had embarrassed us in front of the rest of the people at the bar we didn't take him up on his kind offer.Now I don't agree that "the customer is always right". Sometimes the customer is wrong. If we'd been rude or obnoxious then I'd understand being refused service. However we were neither of those things. We just simply ordered something he didn't want to sell us. Anyway....rant over. We won't be going back, not even for a lifetime supply of lime cordial.

Went for a few drinks with colleagues. Not cheap drinks but ok I guess as in the City. Good thing is they come around with food which js very good. Staff is ok. Not too good not too bad. Nothing that sets them apart.

To rate La Piazzetta average is not to say it is not a perfectly pleasant restaurant in which to take lunch. Its location sits in the heart of The City and, therefore, is good for business lunches of which this one was (and chosen by my customer) The pizzas were good (let's say as good as Pizza Express which, though a chain, does set a high standard) and the service likewise.There is something just a little forgettable about the place afterwards - and that is where the problem may lie in such a large global city with much competition close by. One leaves afterwards and nothing remains as memorable which would prompt a return any time soon. If Tripadvisor gave the option of a Good rating then La Piazzetta would get it - just not Very Good or Excellent hence; Average.

Myself and four colleagues visited this bistro bar earlier this week. I had booked a table but as we were the only diners that turned out to be superfluous. The food was good and well presented. One of my colleagues found the food a bit rich so the waitress did not charge for the dish and gave us complementary liqueurs at the end of the meal too. The wine was superb and the service, as you would expect with an empty restaurant, was excellent and attentive. Nice background music which was not too obtrusive either. All in all a very pleasurable experience.

Popped over for a quick (!) lunch. Got there at just after 1. Was 20 mins before our drinks/food orders were taken and by 1.50 we had drinks but no food. There appeared to be only three exceedingly harassed serving staff which on a Friday lunchtime in the city is madness. I gave up and went back to the office. I understand it's not usually this bad but as this is my only experience of the place I can only review my experience. Plenty other eateries within walking distance of the office so I'll give this one a wide berth.

Recently had a quick lunch meeting with some clients. Staff friendly with an ok bar food menu. A variety of beers and wines available. Food wise the group went for a couple of pizzas, some calamari and breaded chicken. All were quickly devoured....which tells a story I guess. As for the bar in my opinion it lacked a little bit of atmosphere if I am being honest....and it wasn't empty! Price wise no complaints there. Would I come again? Maybe I suppose but only if I was in the specific area I guess but then again there is so much local competition I would probably choose somewhere else.

The food is delicious! We had garlic pizza bread, pasta and paella and found portions generous and prices reasonable-especially for the City of London. The bar downstairs was busy so we asked to sit upstairs in the restaurant which was quieter as almost empty being a Tuesday eve but no problems with service as bar staff/waitresses were very friendly and kept checking on us every so often to refil drinks. I will be back regularly, and hear the pizzas are amazing!
