La Piazza in Bolton

so I went here at lunch time when it was quiet which makes the events even more inexcusable as they weren’t exactly rushed off their feet .. when seated we ordered two drinks which took ten minutes to arrive which was slightly annoying since the barmaid was on her phone .. we ordered the tuna meatballs for starters which looked lovely BUT it all went wrong with these not even 20 minutes after eating them .. halfway through our main course ( my friend got the lobster risotto which was a frozen barley-there lobster accompanied with mushy flavourless rice, which in itself was worth a complaint but on this occasion isn’t even on the scale of the problems with the starter) I started to get a rash and began to feel all sweaty, my friend also was the same as she came back from the toilet and looked purple I’m not joking. .. in absolute distress we ordered the bill which again took forever and st this point I feel like I’m having some weird reaction and have anxiety and want to get to a pharmacy ASAP .. we finally get out and head to the nearest pharmacy and get allergy tablets .. go home (was planning on a full day out drinking but this place RUINED IT-thanks for that) and after a few hours laying on the couch (and a few trips to the bathroom) I became angry when I realised we suffered food poisoning SO I rang the place up (expecting a full refund since I’d been sentenced to the bathroom all evening on its behalf) was very polite at first and I kid you not the manager began to sweat at me and subsequently put the phone down on me .. I’m talking full on obscenities. I have contacted the council to get this place checked as I believe I suffered food poisoning.

Been here twice before when it first opened was great to find an authentic pizza in Bolton town centre.Relaxed atmosphere , friendly staff so was disappointed on our last visit .Was given a glass of wine with food dried onto the stem of the glass dismissed this as the glass itself was clean put it down to the fact the waiter had handled food at the same time. Usually delicious pizza undercooked dough with a topping that was that sloppy it slid off . My Mother ordered a small glass of wine and was given a large one -never offered a discount .Constructive criticism genuinely hope this was a one off poor meal and that it gets back to its original standard.

Over the Christmas period,my husband and I went several times,and I wen with friends at the end of January as well. During all these times I had a great experience. Over the times I’ve been we’ve had pizza,pasta and a burger; all of which have been excellent. The drinks are extremely reasonably priced,including the cocktails. The only negative statement I have to make is that although the waiters are very polite and food/drink came quickly after being ordered, the waiters do tend to leave you alone,which for the most part I prefer,but when it comes to ordering another drink etc, it can get frustrating as they aren’t around. All said though I go regularly & have enjoyed each visit,hope it stays!

Visited here recently, was pleasantly surprised. Food was lovely especially the 3 course offer which was great value for money. Only down side was my meatballs weren't the warmest and staff although friendly weren't the most attentive. I do however look forward to returning and trying some more of the menu.

Very strong recommendation. Three of us .. all who dine out regularly found the food, wine and service excellent. In fact outstanding. Since the loss of Toscana and La Roma in the town centre, Bolton has missed a good quality independent Italian restaurant. Chef and our waiter from Milan .. and it shows in the food and service. My wife and I eat out in Manchester regularly and we would recommend La Piazza over the Manchester Italian restaurants. We sincerely hope for two things .. that La Piazza survives the difficulties of starting up .. and that you as a customer have just as good an experience as we did.

It was my mum’s Birthday and we decided to go here. The food was delicious, portions sizes are great as well my mum only had half portion size and still couldn’t finish it. All the food was cooked well and very tasty. The service was wonderful, polite friendly staff. A great atmosphere and would definitely recommend. Will be back and hopefully can fit in a pudding next time.

Off to watch A Christmas Carol so decided to book a family meal here before the performance. We were not disappointed. Service was second to none - staff very attentive. Food served promptly and was tasty and hot. Lots on offer on the standard and special menus. Lemon cheesecake and coffee - lovely! Would not hesitate to recommend the place

My partner and I visited the restaurant on a whim as I'd heard about it and we were in town. The starters were delicious, chicken tikka and black pudding. Both exquisitely cooked and the accompanying salads were fresh and tasty. We shared a large pizza as our main (pepperoni, onion and chilli) which was delicious and very filling. Great service by the staff, we'll definitely be going again and recommending to friends.

Only recently found this place when walking by. Went in as it looked really sweet and wanted some dinner. Was quiet but it was only 16.30pm. Staff really nice, friendly and professional. Had vegetarian pizza which was mostly very nice, the base was just a little soggy in centre also tiramisu was dry, base not moist enough. I will try again in the future and hope these reviews have been taken note of as there is alot of good competiton out there and as it hasnt been open too long I really do hope they do well.

Went with my husband for a romantic meal which the staff didn’t seem to care for our privacy as how many times do they have to ask you how your starter is very intrusive, starter was lovely but main meal was a let down my husband ordered seafood pasta and 3 of the mussels hadn’t opened the waiter informed us it was because they had been frozen???? No mate it means they’re dead and shouldn’t be served to your customers , I had lasagne which was nice until you had to scrape of the dry hard pasta sheets from the iron griddle pan it was served in , overall pretty poor 😡

Met up with some friends on Saturday night. Disapointed. Not enough staff on. Service was slow and food not good. Toilets dirty. Manager was nice and polite. But chef was agressive and argumentative. Restaurant more like a café. Brought out plate of garlic bread but no side plates and no jug of water. Salad was stake and wilted food cold. Wouldn't go again.

We went last night as it's suppose to be good... Ages to get our drinks and order food! Missed one drink off order and then off food so was watching to get someone's attention a meal had been missed and only saw one of the chefs dip his finger in the missing lasagne and lick it 3 times!!!!! Refused the meal due to that waiter very apologetic but no apology from chef!!! Will never go again and will tell everyone I know to avoid to

Was with a group of 12 friends yesterday. I must say the service was excellent and all the food served was hot and tasty. No one in the group had a bad word to say. We all decided we will be visiting again.

We decided to give this place a go as itis quite new and would be handy for us. First of all they have probably spent quite a lot of money doing the place up but oh dear! The tables are like the ones you get in pubs and not designed to sit at, getting legs under the table was quite a feat for my husband and I found the chair very uncomfortable (luckily I could change the chair). The antipasti to share was 3 slices of mortadella, 3 slices of salami, rock hard bead (could be used as bricks) pickled peppers straight out of the jar(very vinegary) and some cold slices of fried aubergine and courgette none of which was particularly nice topped off with a pile of salad with no dressing. The only rally good bit was the olives, but opening the jar was all it took. I enquired about the pizza - thin and crispy I was told. Well the crust was crisp but the middle was a sad and soggy mess, more like an uncooked pancake with rather tasteless cheese. No comment when most of it went back. My husband's authentic Sardinian pasta with cumberland sausage (yes really) was redeemed by the rather tasty sausage.

Came here last night for a family members birthday there were 13 of us.. all food arrived together and was beautifully presented and delicious the guys who served us were lovely would highly recommend to others thank you La Piazza I'm sure we will be back :-)

We often visit here. The food and service are of a very good standard and I have no hesitation in recommending anyone paying a visit.

Thought we would try it for a family birthday and it was well worth the trip!

We went to La Piazza for dinner on Saturday night, and the experience was disappointing at best. The service was ok, but the food was mediocre - lasagne burned and stuck to the bottom of the dish, a very poor bruschetta - who on earth decided that raw red onions belong on a bruschetta, and frozen McDonalds-style fries.

There were 6 of us who went for lunch I was a bit apprehensive after reading the reviews but everything was really good The cocktails were excellent value too The young man that served us was very helpful and professional we will be back soon

this restaurant is one of the best italians in bolton, the staff are friendly and always happy to help with anything you might need. the antipasto board is one of the resons i always go back its excellent. also the staek is out of this world, not to mention the great pizzas they do.

Well presented externally which makes it inviting. Inside very simple but nice. Restaurant staff were very friendly and professional at all times....there to help when required but did not push you in any way at all. A nice relaxing evening meal starting off with cocktails, a couple of nice bottles of house white wine to follow. A good selection on the menu to suit all tastes with a specials board also. Presentation of the food was very good....all in all a very enjoyable meal with friends, reasonably priced and would go again.

This restaurant is very nice, the staff are friendly and very quick to serve you with a smile. The food is tasty and very well presented. I had meatball to start with,then lasagna for my main. The lasagna was very nice and presented very hot in a sizzling pan but I have tasted better. This does not mean their lasagna is not great,just that I have eaten at many restaurant and this was just different from many others. The restaurant is a lovely place,with a quiet ambiance. Top marks to the staff,they were all wonderful as was the chef.

My and I decided to pay a visit as we had never been. We weren't disappointed. The staff were lovely and friendly to the point of even showing us which pasta would be in my Mum's dish as she wasn't sure what it meant on the menu. The portion sizes are huge so make sure you're hungry. However you can order a half portion which wasn't clear on the menu but do ask or go hungry. Delicious food and a lovely place to dine.

Had a wonderful meal in La Piazza tonight. Gorgeous decor, the service we received was 5 star. Vast menu including a specials menu.

Went for lunch today. What a fantastic place. The staff were great especially with my children. We had starters pizza and pasta all of which was cooked to a very high standard. The atmosphere was good and menu was not over priced. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Will definitely be back (maybe without the children so I can sample the wine) thank you.

We went to la piazza for my mother in laws birthday and it was just awful! There was 12 of us on a table a lot to handle I understand and there was one waitress that was really nice but for some reason they kept bringing over random glasses of wine we never even ordered and then pulled there faces when no one accepted them, we waited for an hour and half for food and when it got to us we were starving my pasta was hard and bland not seasoned very well at all my partner got a beef burger they charged an extra pound for cheese and the burger was cold in the middle, of course we just ate it because we had waited that long for it to come! The ladies toilets were awful broken toilet seat and no lock on the door!! Just expected better at its a new restaurant! Will not be returning!!

Myself and a friend decided to visit for lunch and were thrilled to find afternoon tea on the menu, which we spent a leisurely afternoon over, the staff were very attentive and everything was delicious, the only thing I might suggest is maybe including another savoury dish and removing a sweet one or two

Pretty unpleasant, low quality ingredients go into the food here. Prawn cocktail looked like something from the seventies and was covered in cheap dressing. I had the rice and prawn dish for main, which consisted of burnt white rice with a very few tiny frozen prawns in and rocket on top!

got more on the menu now than last time we went its hard to pick as so many good things to pick from had rib eye this time was that much could not eat it all they put it in a bag for me to take home well worth the money will be back soon

Great place to visit more of a bistro feel than restaurant staff very friendly and even made me a dish not on the menu would highly recommend if you are not looking for a full on restaurant

Visited on a Sunday evening, party of ten, very nice décor, greeted by the pleasant staff and quickly shown to our table. Drinks order taken along with starters. Garlic breads with cheese and tomato were delicious. Various mains, pizza's, spag bol, lamb chops and a vegetarian pasta were all excellent. Service was faultless. A much needed quality eatery in Bolton. Highly recommended.

Manager was disgusted that we wanted a different table to what he suggested..other staff lovely...we walked out after 15mins due to manager....(go LEOS in horwich instead...beautifull and lovely amazing staff)

This is a must try restaurant in Bolton.. Bolton Town Center have never had a restaurant like it.. Great Food, great atmosphere and the staff cannot help you in enough!!! You also must try the King Prawn Starter ... It's to die for 😋

First time visit and can't recommend highly enough. All was first class from service to food, drink & hospitality. It's nice to find a gem like la piazza in the centre of Bolton - long awaited!!

Had the purple gnocchi with king prawns and pancetta. Absolutely beautiful. Really courteous service and very fresh ingredients. Started with the crayfish and mango salad, which was wonderfully presented. Creative menu, with quality italian moretti on draft. Couldnt have asked for more - a great alternative to Pizza Express.

This place has got to hope that Gordon Ramsay will arrive soon ,although he will switch the lights out.the service put simple 0 not in the memory of man have I ever eaten in a Restaraunt were they take your order for your main,whilst your eating your starter,the explanation remains to date unclear,the head waiter worryingly offers up an explanation of don't worry your tables open to yo all night lol o really was my reply .it was a large booking and the place wasn't full by the time some order was needed,and organisation there was people on our table who spoke of waiters addressing them in Italian,a little over authentic I would say,this place needs a new front of house team the food was ok the drinks service was terrible ,and the bill at the end was has badly put together just has the service,was and certainly not great for the business profits.shame the owner works hard however the staff are poorly managed.

If you're in Bolton and haven't visited la piazza yet, what are you waiting for. The service still leaves a little to be desired but this is a new venue, still perfecting things. The food is first class an presented is a very pleasing manner. Prices are around what would be expected. I would guess this will be the premier venue to visit in Bolton in the near future - book before you don't have to wait to long.

We booked for an earlyish table (7.30 pm) on a Saturday night. We were efficiently welcomed and shown to our table. It was quite dark in the table area of the restaurant but no initial mention was made of this. We were then asked if we woukd like a drink and we ordered the house white which, when it arrived, was of good quality. It was only after this point that the young man who had greeted us then apologised for the low lighting and that this was due to an electrical problem. He then told us that because of this card payment could not be accepted. Fortunately we had cash on us but it would have been better to have been informed of this before we had sat down and ordered drinks. Our food order was taken and our freshly made starters (meatballs for me and mozzarella and tomato salad for my wife) arrived quickly. Both were well presented and of very good quality. An issue that became apparent was that service was far too swift (unusual for an Italian restaurant). As soon as we finished our starter the waitress whipped our plates away and within seconds our main courses had arrived. We would have preferred to have waited between the courses but was not given the opportunity. However, the food (both pasta dishes) was again of very good quality. At the point our main courses arrived a large group of around 20 women arrived. They were very loud and boisterous and the whole atmosphere of the restaurant changed. One can say that the restaurant can't legislate for the behaviour of their customers but the restaurant is responsible for the enjoyment of all customers and so should attempt to control the behaviour of those customers causing others discomfort. I believe it is also incumbent of a restaurant to inform people seeking to book a table, of a large party of people being catered for. My wife finished her main course before me and as soon as she had put down her knife and fork, the waitress took her plate and side plate. This is absolutely not the thing to do. The waitress should have waited until we had both finished. As soon as I finished my main meal the waitress was quick to whip my plate and side plate away, even though I was still earring slice of garlic bread. We asked for two coffees only then to be told that the coffee machine was out of action because of the electrical fault. As it was, the noise levels in the restaurant had got to the point where one could not hear oneself speak and so we asked for the bill and left. So, in conclusion, there is scope for improvement; waiting staff need to be better trained in the etiquette of service; customers need to be informed at the time of booking if a large party is expected; restaurant management should control the behaviour of their customers when it is clear that it is disturbing the enjoyment of others and, finally, where there is a fault that can affect the enjoyment of customers this should be made known before the customer is seated. It is a great pity that the experience of excellent food and drink was spoiled by issues with service and misinformation.

One of a very few lovely places to eat and meet in Bolton town centre. Great food, very friendly and welcoming staff and definitely reasonable priced. Long may it continue.

A group of 3-4 of us have lunch at La Piazza most days because it is the only place in the town centre to get a decent meal at a decent price within an hour. At La Piazza we always receive a warm welcome and excellent service. La Piazza is a welcoming place to eat and drink, in a great location, whether as a couple or with friends. The menu is varied so there's something for everyone and the food is excellent. The staff are polite and attentive yet discreet. I wholeheartedly recommend you try this new gem in the heart of the town centre.

As last Bolton has a lunch venue to be proud of!

bad from start to finish - unprofessional in every aspect - served warm wine, serious food allergy treated as a joke, crap food - piled high but not sold cheap, dodgy furniture, sachets of condiments, what a crying shame - how can one establishment get so much so wrong?

Me and my partner decided to have Italian for dinner, restaurant has great location and looks nice. The food was okish but at the end of our meal we both got sick- rashes, stomach and head ache, fever, dizziness . None of us have any food allergies so we were unsure what happened. Paid the bill and rushed to get some pills for this reaction. At the end of the day got a bit better and decided to call the restaurant. Explained the whole story and we got in touch with the owner, and extremely rude Italian guy, not only we did not get a refund but he blamed it on us saying it is not his food, he doesn't have time for this and doesn t care about comments, swore at me and raised his voice, finally hung up.

A nice location in Bolton Town Centre. The staff were really attentive and really cared that your dining experience was pleasurable. Perhaps, to be honest, a little too attentive but it was refreshing to see the Manager and the Chef making the rounds to check on the customers happiness.

Fourth time dined here and found the Italian dishes authentic. Good wine list and attentive staff. Cannot understand the negative comments of this bar/restraunt and a little suspicious as to the real motives behind them.

I have been to La Piazza on 2 occasions to eat.... excellent both times...... great value and great ambience.....

Came here for a meal for my birthday. The garlic bread was over powering. Finished our main courses 30 minutes ago still waiting for someone to ask if we wanted desserts. Will not be 8.

We visited this place on the 22/12/16. The place looks great from the outside and the inside but unfortunately it all went down hill from walking in the door. The staff thought talking to each other was better than showing us to the table we booked earlier. After getting seated we ordered a bottle of wine that came in good time but was very warm indeed however it seems they did have the same wine that was cold they just failed to give us it for some strange reason. The table seemed more like something you would see in a café with its paper napkins, condiments in sachets and a table top that has not been fixed to the stand so kept moving about throughout our evening making it feel very down market. The starters came and mine was massive to say the least and I would say it would have made 4 starters and whilst this was not a major problem however it did feel rather wasteful. I followed that with a mixed grill and once again when it came it was huge. In my opinion the food is of a very low quality and no matter how much they give you it would be better giving half the portions and buy better quality ingredients. The staff seemed very inexperienced including who we assumed was the manager who we think was the only person who had worked in a restaurant before but was at best a waiter who has been promoted but has no idea how to manage his staff, add to all this extractor fans in the kitchen you have to shout over and the staff turning the lights off whilst customers still had food on the table (hours before closing time) as they wanted to go home early leaves us thinking we wont be returning any time soon

I love this restaurant. The staff are all amazing and friendly the place has a lovely feel to it and the food is delicious. In my opinion the best place to eat in Bolton centre.

We booked a table of three but ended up being a party of four. Restaurant was quite empty when we arrived, we sat by the window and the two of us by the wall felt cold. The waiter said he would put the air con onto heat for us. But in the end we moved tables as it was just too cold. The wall felt like it was lacking and insulation, but being a very old building and after a pretty good refurb this should have been though of.

This must be the worst Italian restaurant anywhere.

A decent Italian, and if 'Good' existed below Very Good I'd put Good rather than Average. A lovely dining room, with friendly and welcoming staff, but the menu is trying to bridge good Italian cuisine and pub grub, which is available elsewhere so I don't know why it's bothering. Decent pizzas and pastas alongside burgers, afternoon tea and vegi burgers and some other stuff which didn't belong. Had the bruscheta which was nice, some deep fried brie which was okay too (although one of the dishes I didn't think belonged on the menu) and the Norma Pizza which was very tasty but had no crisp to the base. Saying that it had a lot of toppings so was bound to be floppy and a bit soggy. Overall a nice atmosphere and we left very full, but I prefer Italian restaurants to focus solely on Italian food.

Had a great time at La Piazza. Good tasting food and fab/friendly service. Would recommend you to try

Booked last minute and was told we couldn't have a table until 9:30pm as they were very busy. We arrived early and it was empty. We were shown to our table. The tables are strange, the chairs are either too high or the tables too short but you sit uncomfortable. The deco is nice but falls short as it like they have scrimped on fixtures and fittings like the tables and chairs. There are cheap laminated menus on the tables and sugar in paper sachets. It's cheap and poorly thought out but the prices are not cheap. The menu is strange, ranging from a curry risotto and an all day breakfast. The lightening is so bright that it gives you a feel of a cafe at 11am, no atmosphere or feeling of a nice intimate meal. We ordered halloumi skewers. Poor at best. A weird random salad with cold cooked peppers, no dressing but a mint and yogurt dip, which completely over powered the halloumi. No vegetarian markers anywhere on the menu, some of the listed allergens where pretty unreassuring also. I had a vegetarian pizza which had water from the courgettes on top, expected due to the amount of toppings. The pizza was really tasty and very enjoyable. My companion had a lasagna which again was very tasty and enjoyable. The deco and lightening is completely off the mark. It's like it has a split personality of cheap cafe meets Italian restaurant. Could be really good.....and I am praying they read this and make a few adjustments as Bolton has a huge gap for good quality restaurants!!!

I had noticed this place being fitted out and decided on the decor alone wiuld becwirth a visit.

We arrived quite late having driven up from Swansea choice was slightly limited by this late hour but a nice glass of red wine & an excellent Pizza followed. Host was very friendly especially as one of our number spoke Italian & we had a few words. Our Hotel receptionist had recommended this restaurant & we agree with her choice.

Very nice interior but that's where it ends place was empty both chose pizza could smell burning before it arrived not cooked in middle and burnt round the edge the big mistake was not leaving then but starving so carried on. Someone else came in there order was a pizza better attempt for them after the first went in bin there other order not a clue what it was but could have been pasta looked liked it had been eaten already if you get what I mean. Asked for the bill it arrived with only the drinks on good I thought not charging for that disgrace.Waiter turned up muttered something came back with revised bill. Am ashamed to say did the British thing of not kicking up a fuss paying leaving and vowing never to return

Im torn between average and very good. The decor is nice but its trying to be all things to all people. cafe bar, restaurant, breakfast place.Needs to make up its mind kind of. The tables we tried, after being moved where all wobbly and way too close together. Like eating on a see saw at times!!! We also felt we was eating dinner with other people sat on top of us.They seem stretched for space but also way too many staff. Wenasked for bill and the change was left on plate and then quickly swiped as a tip. It was intended as a tip to be fair but most places would leave it till youd left before taking for granted.Too many people looking after the table and I honestly hink they thought it could have been payment and not realised we had been billed already. Just too keen and with kinks but things that surely can be worked on. The food was a little over priced for Bolton and the drinks are too but sill very enjoyable. T bone steak- delicious. Small portions for normal italian prices but I will defo go back and hope they can keep improving because the potentail is there. Open all day as all things and given time they can make this into a real plus for the town centre.

We visited La Piazza a few weeks after it opened, and we were not disappointed! The interior is so nice! All the staff are friendly and attentive.

I was really looking forward to trying this new restaurant but was utterly disappointed.

Went with my girlfriend for the first time and it was one of the best italians we had eaten. Food tasted so fresh and tasted amazing, nice potions - pizzas were lovely and the pastas looked lovely. Meatballs highly recommended. If they keep it up Bolton has a gem.

When we visited the restaurant, it had only been open a few days and I think that some of the younger staff were finding their feet, so to speak. They were lovely enough but slightly inexperienced.

Been three times now to this fabulous place. Great staff, amazing food and wonderful decor/interior. I was so absorbed in the experienced I forgot I was in Bolton town centre. I've had different dishes each time but the prawn saganaki was delicious. My husband had a 22oz steak that he said was superb. The service was fantastic and I discovered charitable too: they were donating food to a homeless charity when I was in. #brilliant

good selection of food very fast service you can see them preparing your food seconds from pan to table I asked for a old family favorite was not on the menu the waiters asked and come back and said they had all the ingredients required so they did the steak and dressing I asked for

Excellent lunch at this newly opened wine/bar restaurant in the centre of Bolton a very Mediterranean menu with a good selection of foods, snacks,sandwiches etc
