Oh I just love this place! We went last night for a Bastille dinner. The food was spectacular, I had a vegetarian Wellington which was absolutely delicious, except it was enormous, covered nearly two thirds of the plate and I felt guilty leaving some. My husband had a steak which was perfectly cooked. This place has a fantastic atmosphere. Small but perfectly formed and buzzing with happy conversation. Thank you Anita Claire for another great meal and evening.

Lovely intimate setting, staff very welcoming. Food was absolutely stunning, the ingredients were all locally sourced and fresh. Every course was delicious and accompanied by amazing sauces, Peppercorn was to die for. The chef comes to each table after service a lovely touch, definitely be visiting again. And the price is such good value.

We dined here on Saturday night for the delayed start to the Exmoor Food Fest. On arrival we were greeted by a very smiley and lovely lady who showed us to our table. We’d all ordered something different and couldn’t resist trying each others throughout the evening. Particular highlights were the Coquille St.Jacques, the lemon sole and the Apple Tarte Tatin. My husband had the Pork which he said was deliciously moist and juicy and the ham hock with the best Piccalilli he’s tasted. The other members of our party had Steak and throughly enjoyed it. The atmosphere was buzzing, the restaurant was full and everyone was chattering away and having a great time. Hats off to Chef Anita-Clare. We’ll definitely be back.

It’s not just the SERIOUSLY incredible food that makes this place such a gem it’s the whole ambiance. Tiny dining area where you feel you can chat to everyone else but it’s the rest of the staff that also make the whole evening. Totally attentive, friendly and professional but also so relaxed and charming you want to chat to them all night. Wonderful people who contribute to the restaurant with their own home grown salads and homemade dressings and chutneys etc makes it feels like such a family affair. Cannot speak highly enough of every single person who makes this place so much fun and such a fantastic restaurant to come back to time and again. Haven't had such a good night with faultless food (best steak I’ve eaten in years) for such a long time it was a total joy. Thanks everyone. See you soon!

Our third visit to your Bistro and again a lovely welcome from your staff. Food was again very well prepared with the bread filled cheese sharing starter lovely. We both had the steak main course whch was tender but we had to take most of it home as we could not finish it due to the aforementioned starter being so moorish and plentiful. To finish we both had the profiteroles. A lovely warm atmosphere on an extremely wild and windy night. Thank you to all the staff once again

I have taken sometime to reflect and consider how to describe this wonderful eatery. My family and I have visited this small restaurant on more than six occasions over the past year or so. Having heard so many wonderful comments and it's reputation for quality locally sourced food that was almost on our doorstep, we were convinced that it was too good to be true, oh no it wasn't. As foodies we are normally disappointed eating out believing we could do better at home. So why is La Petite Bouchee different? It is small, cosy and as you are in one of the rooms in the house you feel and are made to feel part of the family. For those that have eaten in a small rural village restaurant in France, you will know exactly what I am describing. So why has La Petite Bouchee changed our eating out experience? The front of house team are as amazing as the food. We have never come away from the restaurant disappointed in any aspect. The monthly choice is balanced and I even had a vegetarian main, and for a big meat eater that is quite some confession. There is always plenty to eat without leaving feeling that you have made a pig of oneself (they even provide takeaway boxes for when you just let it go back to the kitchen). So what about the proprietor? She is as lovely as the food she prepares. Willing to amend her menu to cater for personal choice. So do I have any complaints? Yes I do. Not about the restaurant or the food but about the people who book and then cancel with little notice. Yes things happen but for a small delightful village restaurant 2 or 4 people cancelling is the difference between breaking even or closing down. To lose such a French gem in the heart of Devon would be soul destroying.

I can only apologise to the LPB team for waiting so long to write a review. We've visited several times as it is local and have always received such a warm welcome. The food has always been excellent. As non meat eaters there is always a good choice of vegetarian and fish dishes. This weekend I sampled Sauce Choron for the first time (I had to look it up) and it was delicious! The fish main (cod) was one of the nicest fish meals I have ever eaten. We never leave hungry, there's bread, a delicious salad and frites with every meal. It's always a relaxed atmosphere. Thank you to the entire team for maintaining such high standards and creating such a wonderful atmosphere.

As a vegan, eating out is usually disappointing, embarrassing, or both. But, not here! I had an absolutely fantastic meal with my daughter. I have wanted to eat here for a long time and eventually managed it. The restaurant was really charming and the staff were excellent. We had French Onion soup to start which was excellent followed by lovely amuse bouche. My wife had Coq Au Vin which she didn't manage to finish as it was a good helping. I had the steak which was cooked exactly as requested. But I was a little disappointed as it was served with chips and salad which was no different to any Pub meal. The deserts were very nice but again not exceptional. Again I would like to say the service and the friendliness of all concerned was great. Maybe I will have to chose something different when we go again.

It's unusual to find French cuisine in England so distant from any sizeable town ( Tiverton is about ten miles east) but here you have it. La Petite Bouchee is quirky, the rear room of a house, offering supper on Friday and Saturday evenings in quite an intimate dining space. There are house rules to be observed: pre-ordering your selection from a carefully pitched seasonal menu which champions local suppliers and promising to depart by ten, before you turn into a pumpkin.

I was so looking forward to visiting Anita-Clare and her team down at La Petite Bouchée having followed her progress from the famous little blue Citroen Van in Crystal Palace to the new restaurant in her home. Well Friday 13th was going to be that day. I had decided that as it is a little journey from Essex to Devon that I would combine the trip with a long weekend away for myself and my Mum. We arrived in Witheridge hoping the satnav would get us to our destination but no need to panic. As soon as you turn into the square there infront of you is the welcoming sight of the LPB Citroen resplendent in all its glory guiding you like a beacon to the entrance. Now on to the food. Fantastic, superb, amazing. I have read about the numerous awards LPB has received and now having tasted the food I can see why. I am no food critic but I know what I like and I liked this food. Lovely clean, fresh flavours not so overseasoned that it disguises what you are actually eating. I love the fact you choose your courses in advance thus reducing the waste factor at the restaurant. All I can say is if you are in the area or within a 300 mile drive it is certainly worth a visit, you will not be disappointed.

We get the menu well in advance - on line - and book early. Funny you think? - not really as then we then know exactly what we want and it is prepared and cooked for us in advance and so served without delay - if we didn't like that menu then we would not go that time - hasn't happened so far. We had seven years of holidays in France and love their food - plus many day trips across to B and C. You get four courses for £30 - each to his own but I think that is good value. (Now don't put the prices up, Anita-Clair) If you don't want wine then there are bottled drinks or, of course, water. The staff are amiable and chat - should you want to - and are certainly more amicable than in your average French restaurant. The main thing is that I love the food - as does my wife.

Each course was beautifully presented and tasted amazing although I feel my husband wished he had chosen the Fruits de Mer as his eyes bulged as it went passed! Maybe next time..... Do not miss this little piece of France in Devon.

We were meant to have had dinner in the French Camper Van when it was located in London, but unfortunately, a couple of days before we were due to go, it was vandalised, such a shame. When La Petite Bouchée relocated to Witheridge, it was an ideal time to book for a long weekend in Devon and celebrate my birthday at the same time .We travelled down the day before with friends and eagerly anticipated our dinner the following night. We weren't disappointed. We were greeted warmly by the staff and started off with aperitifs. I had the pate with pickled vegetables, followed by the Bourride (fish stew). Yum. The cheese board was sumptuous. The amuse bouche of Pea and mint sorbet and the cucumber gazpacho were refreshing in the middle. A lovely birhday cake was provided as a surprise. It was lovely to meet Anita, who I have corresponded with over the past 9 months, in person. Great Chef!! We will be back again soon.

I live in the village and feel very lucky to have this restaurant on my doorstep. We went with friends and all 4 of us thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of our meal. We certainly went away feeling extremely full! As it is a small restaurant and there is no other sitting, there is no pressure to vacate the table, and as you have already chosen your meal, there is no wasted time chosing. Just plenty of time to socialise and savour the wonderful food. Go ahead, try it. You won't regret it.

After following La Petite Bouchee on Facebook, twitter & Instagram since they won 'Time Out' for the best restaurant in Sydenham London a few years ago I was so excited to find out that Anita-Clare and Caroline Field were to be opening up a supper club in the dining room of their beautiful home in Witheridge just down the road to where my parents lived!!! Not having much chance to be able to visit due to living in France the one thing I was determined to do when I visited my parents in July earlier this year was to book a table at La Petite Bouchee and try out the French cuisine they have won awards for. I only wish I lived closer so I could keep going back because it is a real Gem. The people of Witheridge are very lucky to have La Petite Bouchee on their doorstep!! From walking down the candlelit path to the restaurant and being shown to our table to finishing our delicious meal, every detail is thought out with love and care!! All the ingredients are fresh and locally sourced and you are looked after and made to feel so comfortable and relaxed!! All our menu choices were chosen beforehand so all that was needed to be done was choose some drinks and relax!!!! I chose the steak and have to say it was cooked to perfection, melt in the mouth and ever so tasty with a delicious peppercorn sauce to accompany!!!! It was a fabulous evening from start to finish and so lovely to meet the chef and have a chat. It's very clear to see the love and hard work that goes into creating such a fabulous place!!!! Thank you for such an amazing meal. From start to finish I loved it all!!! I definitely will be back next time I'm visiting my parents!!!!

Saw this on Hidden Restaurants and was delighted to see that it was near where I was staying on holiday. Booked via the website and excitement mounted. On arrival, it was easy to see where the restaurant was with the van outside and wonderful candlelit path to the door. Felt like I was dropping round to friends for dinner as the welcome was warm.

Having seen this on channel 4's Hidden Restaurants I knew i must try it out, and I wasn't disappointed. The food was of a high standard and the owners were amazing and couldn't do enough for you. Would recommend booking ahead just in case as its in the middle of now where and a bit of a journey and with only 20 places. Hopefully the chefs table will be open soon and this will be a great addition to the restaurant. Well done ladies keep up the hard work

My wife found this lovely restaurant on Facebook and she's been following it ever since. Situated on the square of the lovely and sleepy town of witheridge, we were first of all welcomed by a lovely man who was putting up bunting and French flags. The quirky looking 1960's citroen located at the front of the restaurant adds a lot of charm and character. Although the restaurant was quiet, the ambiance and decor were so lovely, we spent a lovely evening. The service was excellent and the food second to none, and we even tried some lovely 2 sorts of picked pears ( they were great with the cheeseboard). We had the pleasure to meet Anita, the Chef/owner of the business, who came out to introduce herself and told us about her London experience. Everyone working in this restaurant is so friendly and very accommodating, nothing was too much trouble. This is a very new restaurant and I hope it'll receive all the credits it deserves. Will definitely return! Well done " la petite Bouchee"

We had an outstanding meal from Ryan while on holiday with our 11 month old. Delicious restaurant quality food with none of the stress of chasing our toddler around a busy dining room full of other patrons! The food was excellent as was the service and he left the kitchen spotless. We would highly recommend for a luxurious but relaxed experience.
