La Pastaia in City of London, Westminster

Honestly one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had. The pasta was completely inedible – no flavor, poor texture, and just not something you'd expect to be served at a restaurant. On top of that, the service was shockingly bad. Staff were rude and inattentive, and the overall atmosphere felt unwelcoming. After waiting so long for the food, I was genuinely frustrated that this was what I ended up with. Definitely not coming back. Save yourself the disappointment – this place is all hype with no substance.

Extremely Disappointing Experience I had a horrible experience here. I waited for over an hour, and unfortunately, the previous negative reviews were completely accurate. The food was very bad and I didn't like it at all, and the service was even worse. I only went in because most of the nearby places were full, but it turned out to be one of the worst dining experiences of my life. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

Came by this small Italian restaurant by chance on our first night in London. The pizza was so good and very authentic. We will definitely go back! Very good value for money and great service.

I saw the negative reviews but gave La Pastaia the benefit of the doubt. Big mistake. The place has an old Italian café vibe, which is charming at first—but that’s where the charm ends. The food was unbearably salty, lacking any real flavor or balance. It felt more like a mistake than a recipe. Service? Distant and careless. We were left waiting far too long, and when we did get attention, it was rushed and unfriendly. Honestly, all the previous negative reviews were spot on. I chose to ignore them, and I regret it. There are plenty of better Italian restaurants just steps away—do yourself a favor and skip this one.

The food was delicious and fresh. The service was extremely friendly. I can't understand the criticisms of previous reviewers.

I look down on this place from my vacation rental so decided to try it despite the hideous one-starred reviews I had read on it. I was pleasantly surprised! Okay value, delicious food in sensible portions, and good service. The wait time was not an issue.

I had wild boar ragu pasta and tiramisu, and both were delicious. As an Italian myself, that is what I would expect to taste in an Italian-owned restaurant. Highly recommended!

Reading the opinions has nothing to do with how they have treated us. It wouldn't be the same waitress who had such bad opinions, but she was charming with us. The exquisite food. The spectacular tiramisu.

The service is extremely slow: 2 hours for 2 starters and 2 mains at around 4pm. The quality of the food is disappointing. The pasta is undercooked, too hard, not even al dente, and also very salty. The pumpkin tortelli came floating in a mixture of liquid butter and water. I was about to send it back and leave the restaurant. It's upsetting that they present themselves as selling Italian food but that's not Italian at all and just gives a bad reputation to the real good Italian food. Avoid this place.

Not sure about some of the 1-star reviews but La Pastaia is authentic Italian and reminds me of my Italian grandmother’s cooking. It is small but and does not try to be “upscale”. What it does try to do and succeeds exceedingly well at, is bring you home cooking. We Italians prefer al dente pasta, and that is pretty standard no matter what scale of restaurant it is. And here they have a selection of homemade pastas, with hearty portions. Flavorful Italian comfort food at very reasonable prices.

Pedimos nuestra comida y bebidas. El camarero llegó a la mesa con el pedido de escurrido, luego llevó la comida que tenía en su poder a otras 3 mesas. Finalmente llegó con nuestros arranques, que era bastante sabroso. Pedimos otra bebida y tuvimos que llamar su atención 2 veces más para solicitar donde estaban las bebidas. La comida llegó. El salmón en mi plato era una salpicadura de salmón y la pasta utilizada no era la pasta adecuada. Ambos estábamos deseando probar pastaa recién hecha, ¡nuestras pastas solo se pueden describir como pasta envasada de Lidl! La comida de mi pareja olía mal, tenía boloñesa. Estaba preocupado porque la comida olía a vinagre. Compartimos un postre, tiramasu muy básico. La experiencia fue horrible. Ellos camarera fue grosero y discutible cuando cuestioné el hecho de que ella nos había cobrado más de las bebidas reales que tuvimos, me dieron una mentira, ya que declaró que me habían cobrado por 3 cócteles y que el tónico era completamente gratis. Me quedé boquiabierto ante su enfoque general y su apariencia coincidía con su actitud ¡muy poco cuidado en su trabajo o en ella misma! Le dije que sentía frío en el restaurante y ella simplemente dijo que no tenía frío. Espero que la gente sea más inteligente que nosotros y se detenga a leer reseñas. En general, una experiencia realmente negativa en Lindon a lo que por lo demás habían sido unos días brillantes que habían consistido en experiencias altamente positivas, que terminaron completamente después de comer en La Pastaiao . . ¡100% horrible!

I had dinner at La Pastaia on February 27, 2025, at 8:50 pm. The experience was disappointing from the start. We sat down and waited for 20 minutes, but no one came to our table. No greeting, no water, nothing. I eventually had to get up and find a waiter just to place our order. When the food arrived, it was extremely bad. It was undercooked and barely edible. I expected much better from a place that claims to serve quality Italian food. The combination of being ignored for 20 minutes and being served food that was not properly cooked made this one of the worst dining experiences I have had. If I could give zero stars, I would.

Quiet place on a Sunday, service was ok and friendly welcome. However the pasta was under cooked and hard.

Rather confusing restaurant, the margherita was frozen... The taste was still like ice. Unfortunately all I wanted the answer to be was: "it's finished". Very very friendly dining room staff, which is why 5 stars for them! But the rest... Idk to see again

Great little find last night. Terrific pizza and lovely service. Yes, it's small and cosy but that adds to the charm - aren't you all tired of faceless soulless restaurants? Support small, friendly, tasty, value restaurants where your money matters and you are valued.

Great Pizzas! Very authentic! Personal very friendly ! I became a regular when in Soho. I am even going there for my birthday Sunday the 26th Jan reservation all done ☑️ We will feel like being in Italy 🇮🇹 the time of a lunch ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

TLDR: Waitress not welcoming at all and seemed pretty clueless. Genuinely some of the worst service I’ve ever experienced. Food took ages to arrive, and wasn’t worth the wait. A lot of improvement needed and I do not recommend dining here at all. Food ranged from painfully average to slightly disappointing- but that wasn’t the main problem here since the service was abysmal. It took a while for the waitress to finally come over to take our order, and even then I’d describe her demeanour honestly as pretty cold and clinical. Not welcoming at all. It then took 30-40 mins before any food arrived at our table without any communication from staff. The customers to our left, having arrived 5/10 mins after us were also frustrated during this time and directly asked when their food would be arriving. They were met with no apologies or explanations, only a half-hearted response that they’d ask the kitchen. The waitress also seemed to have no clue where the orders were actually going- despite the restaurant being comparatively small and having taken the orders herself. My order was taken to a different table, and then back to the front when it was refused, despite my attempt to catch the waitress’ attention- which the rest of the customers in our area still managed to hear (we all joked about it at that point, because honestly the situation was laughable). When the food arrived, the lasagne wasn’t anything special, and honestly seemed a bit of a stingy portion size for around £14 without any sides included. The pizza was incredibly greasy, but edible, I suppose. The side portion of chips was fine. Definitely not worth the wait, however. When we went to pay, I asked to remove the service charge, to which the staff member (I’d presume maybe a manager?) became instantly slightly defensive and borderline passive-aggressive insisting that it was mandatory. I decided to relent to avoid confrontation, with the other customers still seated around us. As we then tried to leave after paying, the same lady was stood blocking our path fiddling with the till- in no rush to allow us through. When she finished, she unceremoniously muttered “bye” after us and we quickly left, blinking at her attitude.

About the food: The pasta was not fresh, and it was not even creamy The gnocchi have flour taste The carbonara with too much salt and pepper; and the source was not made with egg yolk (even when the menu says so) The portions were very small Bad customer service, so I decided to remove the service charge But she forced us to pay service charge, when it is always something optional I have been in this place twice, and both times the customer service has been awful

Some of the most unpleasant places I have ever been. I had dinner with my friend and the service was horrible. First we asked for some glasses to be changed since they were dirty and smelled terrible. The girl changed them and brought us others that were similar, dirty and smelled very bad. Very unpleasant manager. The services change is optional throughout London. If I think you don't deserve the tip given the unpleasant treatment you give, I don't have to give it. I'm going to file a good complaint against you because you are thieves. I hope the owner takes action. I have read many negative comments here. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE AT ALL, THERE ARE MANY WONDERFUL PLACES IN LONDON

Awful experience. Rude female manger/owner who couldn't care less about our experience and an issue with the food. Refused to remove the service charge - and couldn't care less we'd had a poor meal and experience. No wonder this place was empty!

Entrantes de buena calidad, calamares bruschetta snd. Bruschetta tenía buen sabor. Plato principal de pescado muy bien preparado. Buen servicio amable. Realmente no puedo culparlo. Sencillo y genuinamente bueno.

Our dinner in this restaurant was a disaster. We had to ask the waiters to take our order. The servers looked like they had never worked before. They didn't know if there was room (I should point out that there were 2 couples in the restaurant). The dishes arrived 30 minutes after our order and of course before the drinks because we had to remind the waiter that we were thirsty. The "homemade" pasta didn't even seem to be Panzani, but rather a common brand of pasta from the supermarket. An exorbitant price for deplorable service and not very good products. Run away if you want to have a good time. Furthermore, it seems that the new trend is to let customers count what they have to pay. I hope that this trend will not spread to France.

The waiters barely spoke English, which made communication much more difficult. We had to wait over 45 minutes for our food, which is unacceptable for a restaurant of this category. Unfortunately, 2 out of 4 dishes were almost cold upon arrival, which significantly affected the enjoyment. After our complaint, we had to wait another 5-10 minutes only to find that the food was still served cold. It seemed as if our concerns were not taken seriously. The lack of attention from the staff and the lack of quality assurance in the kitchen leave us with the impression that customer satisfaction is not the focus here. In summary: A disappointing visit, both in terms of the service and the quality of the food, and it was also really cold in the restaurant. Unfortunately we cannot recommend this restaurant.

Overall not worth it! Food was bland, pizza was tasteless, pasta was a little bit too Al dante. Note, no high chairs for children. Service average at best, had to remind the waitress for our drinks, the table in corner left as it was taking too long to take their order. Atmosphere nice, nice lighting. Much better options around.

Uncharismatic service. Garlic bread without garlic. And brought the wrong drinks. At least it was there quietly and quickly.

The food was more or less good, the waitress was very dry and when we arrived it was a good thing she went downstairs because otherwise she wouldn't have attended to me, they gave us a table where the floor was inclined a little downwards. I ordered a lasagna and they gave me a lasagna that was half of what they sell you on the day and that plate for 14.90, then they also charged us as the tip that was worth more than the water (4.90). All of this in pounds, I do not recommend it to go again

Probably the most offensive manager I have ever encountered in my life. Please avoid this restaurant unless you like being shouted at, pushed and having money snatched out of your hands, all because the dessert was inedible and we refused to pay for it. She told us we had to pay for half as we had eaten half and that it was freshly made so it must be good. She was so busy shouting at us she was completely oblivious that the whole restaurant was staring. Such a bad experience, I don’t know how she thinks it is okay to act like this to customers, extremely disappointing . I have never felt like i've had to write a bad review for a restaurant before but this is my first.

Avoid at all cost! I have never been in a restaurant where the Manager has been SO rude! We complained about the cheesecake because it had absolutely no taste at all. The Manager said we had to pay for half of it as we had eaten some it, we refused. She shouted at the top of her voice that we had to pay in full, including the service charge. We refused and tried to leave, she bumped into me when I tried to leave and grapped the cash out of my hand. I commented on this as i was going to give her more, she denied doing this. I said that she may want to stop shouting as it wasn't a good example to her other customers, the comment went straight over her head. I have NEVER encountered such bad service and attitude.

The server was pretty rude and dismissive. The sauce was pretty bland, and the pasta was overcooked and watery. There are much better italian places for similar prices.

A hidden gem! Great food and a wonderful atmosphere. I thought I was in Italy! I don’t understand the negative reviews on here. It is definitely not accurate. I have been all over the world and I will say that La Pastaia ranks as one of the best. More people should go.

The empty restaurant in the middle of Soho on a late Saturday afternoon should of been a warning but we really wanted pasta and so sorry we did because we paid £37 for two tiny portions of pasta, my friend's chicken dish had 3 pieces of chicken and both dishes would of been better if they had of been ready meals, they advertise homemade pasta but told us there was none and yet with nobody else in the place they made some right in front of us and then the service from the waitress was just unavailable, genuinely it was like she didn't want us there, cold and clinical is mild description of her so no wonder the place was empty but we learn from our mistakes.

We were very poorly received. The manager is unfriendly. She offers meals without bread for a fee and even the charcuterie dish is offered without bread. The pizza. Margherita is very bad I had to eat my husband's dish. And to top it all off, the service was very slow.

Very long service for 3 pasta dishes and a pizza just like straight from the freezer. An unfriendly waitress. No jug of water, no bread. For a bill of 75 pounds. An insult to Italian cuisine. To flee.

If could rate as 0 stars , I Went visit this place , as I wanted a bit the Itálian taste but left really sad , also I’m pregnant , she should never treat customers with racism eyes , sarcasm , impolite behaviour ! I had a horrible service by an Italian woman with curly hair , because I asked as a take away , when my pizza was ready , in that moment was raining a lot outside , and I asked her if Icould stay inside and eat paying extra and obviously changing for a plate , she just didn’t accept and told to go !

The servers were racist and rude. I would not recommend. The food was also horrible. The Cacio e Pepe was disgusting, they couldn’t even get the pasta shape right. They were racist to a coloured group of men who were forced to leave before they forced us to leave as well. The only couple allowed to stay were a white couple. Truly disappointed.

Unfortunately, we were not well looked after in this place- Very rude staff. They took our money, asked us to leave and to go home as they were closing. More people in the restaurant(2 tables with customers), I am not sure if they got the same treatment. Unfortunately not a great experience. We were victims of unnecessary rudeness. Had a horrible experience at this restaurant. I asked our main server for ice and she didn’t respond. When I asked her again she had an attitude and let me know it was on the way. The other server let us know that we had to leave as the restaurant closed in five minutes. There was another couple there (who were white) and they were allowed to stay as long as they wanted. The staff is racist and the food is beyond average. The Cacio E Pepe tasted horrible. I would not recommend going here unless I guess you’re white and Italian.

The food and drink are over-priced and that’s even before one factors in the 12.5% service charge. I had the meatballs in tomato sauce with spaghetti. The sauce was insipid and lacked depth. I had to ask for black pepper and Parmesan cheese as the waiter didn’t offer either. To my surprise when the bill arrived there was a surcharge of £1 for the cheese (+ 12.5% service charge).

Definitely a kind of a restaurant that everyone should stay away from. The atmosphere was too poor. The waiter was serving all clients with visible dirt in her nails. She didn’t even wash her hands after she grabbed knife from the ground. They charged us two times 12.5% service charge. Will never go there. Don’t know if other foods they cook are OK, but their pizzas were average. There are lots of different options to try Italian cuisine in London. This place is the worst one.

The waitress is very rude. She has tried to deceive us twice, acting crazy with English even though she understood us perfectly in Spanish (she is Italian). Ridiculous portions: tiny lasagna for over £14. Calamari (7 rings) for almost £10.

Both the spaghetti carbonara and the fusilli with sausage and mushrooms are excellent! Tasty and cooked perfectly.

If there’s a place here in London where you can feel in Italy… it’s the Pastaia… here you can find kindness and courtesy typical of Italian people. Here there’s the real taste of Italy! 5 stars ‘couse 10 don’t exist! :-)

Very nice restaurant, the staff is very kind, the pizza is crunchy and made like in Italy, good cured meats and cheeses, fresh pasta, I recommend the panna cotta with sublime Nutella, good girls, it's worth it 🥰

Had lunch here on Saturday afternoon. Felt optimistic that it would be a good place to dine in. There was only one waitress around but the decor and restaurant inside seemed cosy and quaint. Me and my friend ordered pasta dishes and garlic bread to share. I ordered the tagliatelle porcini and it tasted like a microwave meal. There were so many mushrooms in the dish and the tagliatelle pasta was a bit clumpy. The source my pasta dish came in was tasty though and the garlic pizza bread tasted decent but it didn't seem fresh either. The food arrived in around 5 minutes after ordering so it didn't bring me with much hope that the ingredients would be fresh. The lady working there was sitting at a table on the phone with her earphones after she had served us which I find quite outrageous. Another point was that there was an Asian lady that came in and ordered a leg of lamb with salad. We overheard the asian lady telling the waitress that the lamb was cold in the middle and only the sauce was warm. I was a bit horrified when I heard this and I'm glad I'm a vegetarian because reheated meat or meat warmed up in a microwave sounds revolting.

Terrible attention from the waitress! We ordered takeout and he asked us to wait outside even though there were tables to sit at. While they delivered the We ordered and they sent us to the street in the cold Terrible what he did! Boasting that those tables that were never used were reserved while we waited for the Meal! In the UK, service charge is optional by law. But my friend was forced and bullied into paying service charge for an awful service he received. Not only that, the owner threatened and bullied my friend.

The most awful customer service experience - with a mandatory service charge (informed after sitting ). Food mediocre at best - service, rude and ignorant. I asked for the service charge to be removed - when I was informed otherwise. Whilst the other diners applauded my verbal feedback - waitress manager owner (waitress claimed to be all 3) wasn’t remotely concerned with the flagrant disregard her customer service displayed … An appalling experience - overall and ruined my Sat night.

AWFUL if I could give it a zero I would, don’t waste your time or money! ‘Visited’ on 2nd Dec, was told we could have a table in 10-15mins so waited outside for a table in -3 degrees, 30mins later we were still stood outside. When we were finally let inside we noticed that not a single table had food which was strange! We were led upstairs where there were many empty tables (so why were we made to wait outside for 30+ mins?! We sat there for 15 mins and nobody took so much as a drinks order so we asked a table upstairs how long they had been waiting for food? They told us they’d been waiting 90 mins, so we got up and left as had half the restaurant when we went back downstairs! Never had such a bad experience ever before!

The food was OK. However the cup that was handed to me was dirty, it had something sticky on it so I asked for it to be changed. Also, the service was quite poor. It was fustrating that the two staff members did not communicate with each other and ignored us when we were trying to call them so we can order. The guy kept saying "she's coming" as I was telling him that we want to order now, referring to his colleague who was the one taking the order. He did not seem interested in the job at all and avoided eye contact with us. Food was alright but service needs improvement urgently.

WORST RESTAURANT EVER - SHUT THIS PLACE DOWN - PLEASE READ!!! We tried dining here on the 2nd of December. Super cold night (-3 degrees Celsius). 3 groups in front of us (two couples and one group of 5) said that they had been told by the owner that the wait would be 10-15 minutes, but according to them it had already been over 20 minutes since they started queuing. Once the three groups in front of us were admitted to their tables and we were waiting for our turn (group of 2), a number of customers, probably 3 or 4 tables, seemingly very upset by the bad service, told us not to dine at the restaurant as they had waited for 1.5 hours for their food which never arrived, however, we had already waited for too long and decided to stay. The food looked good, so we gave it a go. Having in mind the comments of the angry customers, we asked the owner how long it would take for our food to get served, so that if it would take more than an hour we could leave. However, her attitude was snarky. She then proceeded to tell one of us that pizza was not a good option as it would take too long to make and that it was better to get lasagna - we had asked for a Margherita, the easiest pizza to make. Before even finishing our order, she left to clean other tables and serve other customers. In the meantime, more customers were asking how much longer their food would take to be served, others were leaving. We decided to stay another five minutes to give another chance. After about 10 minutes, once the owner was free, we asked her if we could finally order to which she replied with a very bad attitude, ‘No’. After this insanely rude comment we decided to complain. We told the owner that it is no way to treat customers to which she replied ‘Can’t you see I’m busy?’. Mind you, more than half the restaurant had walked out at this point. After this insane response we told her that she should have told us that waiting time would have been that long, and that it was extremely unprofessional to let people wait in the cold for 30+ minutes for no food to be served. She then proceeded to say ‘It’s good for your skin, it keeps you young’, using hand gestures to emphasise her rude comment, with a very ironic attitude. Of course this is unacceptable, to which we replied that she should be ashamed for saying such comments to customers, and warned new customers waiting to be seated not to eat at that place. Also, the other waiter was very slow with service. After reading through many other negative reviews, it seems like the staff is not only rude and unprofessional, but also extremely racist! For this reason, this restaurant needs to shut down immediately! Such people should not be allowed to serve customers.

Good experience, lovely pizza and pasta

Food is good but does not justify the TERRIBLE service you get in this place. We were quite literally insulted in by our waitress when we asked for the bill. She made a really disrespectful comment in italian, she did not realize one of us spoke the language. When leaving the place, she very rudely asked us to shut the door!

Realmente una mala experiencia. . La comida era regular. Pero la dueña muy malos modales.Nos cambiamos de mesa por cercania a la puerta y nos dijo q no podiamos movernos porque estaba reservada. Nunca llegó nadie a esa mesa. Al momento de pagar, pedimos q divida la cuenta y nos hizo comentarios en italiano sin saber q podiamos comprenderla. Cuando pagamos con tarjeta, devolvió la tarjeta de credito tirandola sobre la mesa. Y nos dijo de muy mal modo que cerremos la puerta cuando nos ibamos q hacia frio. El chico que la ayuda parece amable.

Un lugar lindo que llama la atención desde afuera, pero al entrar te enteras de que debes pagar una taxa extra. La mujer italiana que atendía tenía una mala disposición desde el inicio, por lo que decidimos irnos. Lamentablemente fue una mala experiencia en un lugar que se puede potenciar al máximo.

Wrong order was brought out, seemingly through miss understood communication, so ended up with my partner not eating her main course with mine. Staff attitude a bit rude & abrupt. Food did taste ok.

The pasta here is really good, the tiramisu as well. They try their best to give everyone a table, even when it’s busy, without giving you the feeling that you need to rush. The waitress is doing her best to give you a good and fast service. We had a great night!

Ma récente expérience dans ce prétendu restaurant italien a été un affront à la véritable gastronomie italienne Les plats étaient une insulte aux saveurs italiennes . les pizzas et les pâtes sont vraiment mauvaises. Il est inconcevable qu'un établissement se prétendant italien puisse servir de tel plats.

The worst service I've ever had in Europe. the waitress was very rude and was even xenophobic when we asked if it was mandatory to pay a tip for the terrible service.

I brought a group of young actors from a West End show to the restaurant for a birthday meal and received the worst customer service of my entire life. When we asked to swap a meal, due to its unsuitability, soggy nature and poor taste; we were told no. Rather than offering to exchange the meal like any other restaurant would, the waitress argued with us in front of the entire restaurant. She suggested we had no idea what fresh pasta really tastes like and commented that she had eaten the same meal for her lunch and it was fine. She then argued with us when I said that I wouldn't pay for the meal. I have never experienced anything like this in my life and would suggest everyone steer clear of this terrible place!
