Having heard rave reviews about the Sunday Cavery we were all very excited but to say we were underwhelmed would be an understatement. Starters what was left of them, was very basic. Soup was watery and tasteless. The mains was ok nothing special and the majority of the desserts were shop bought. Definitely wouldn't be rushing back and nor would I recommend.

We attended the Santa Sunday carvery in La mon and the overall experience was beyond disappointing. The food was an absolute disgrace. It was inedible and our party of 12 were not able to eat any of the available dinner. We complained and got a reply of sorry, with no indication of the complaint being taken on board. For 37 pound a head, this was a waste of money and I am writing this review in the hope other people will not be disappointed and do not lose out on their money. Just go to McDonald’s for a better, cheaper meal.

Went for a family birthday today and we were really disappointed. Still unsure if £35 deposit was necessary when there weren’t many people there. We were really devestated as the food was pretty dull. For the prices you expect luxury but we would rather have gone elsewhere. We had children with dietary requirements and specified no cheese with the order and it came with cheese so it had to be sent back. The vegan tenders were okay but when the girl came out she said chicken nuggets which is not what you want to hear. When people don’t take this kind of thing seriously it’s very frustrating. Chips were nice. Haddock was slimey and not appealing and finally someone asked for a sandwich to be toasted and they didn’t even do that. “Have to ask the chef”. We’ve had great times here in the past but the standards were genuinely awful. The people that served us were very nice and friendly to be fair but just the food was really bad, we said it was bad but what can server girls do? Saying this as it was a special place for us but the standard of food was really bad, especially with the prices they charge. Thank you, hope this helps. A.

We want here on Sunday for their carvery, and I wish I hadn’t bothered. I would be £60 better off if I hadn’t. The starters were placed far too heigh for me to reach, and they consisted of, 2 platters of salami, 2 platters of lettuce with cheese and Caesar dressing, a platter each of eggs in mayo, apple and the odd prawn cocktail, herrings, poached salmon , and a platter of ham. The mains were dried up turkey, ham, roast beef and pork. The veg were mushy carrots, cauliflower cheese , roast potatoes, very lumpy mash, Yorkshire puddings , stuffing and gravy. The cauliflower cheese was so disgusting, it played on my mind all afternoon, to the point it actually made me sick. I can only describe it as , eating a water logged sponge covered in some sort of powdery cheese sauce . 🤮 The dessert was the only passable part of the whole meal, If you are wanting to come away from a Sunday lunch feeling totally ripped off, then book this carvery, otherwise forget it.

This was a dreadful experience. I fail to understand the number of positive reviews here…. The caterers took no pride at all in their Carvery fare - it’s aimed at the lowest common denominator of gourmet-savvy customers, many of whom sadly complimented the restaurant in the reviews here. The starters were passable but main fare was pathetic. The beef was over cooked and leathery. The stuffed pork was completely dried out and with cheap proprietary stuffing. Accompanied with non-descript industrial gravy. Cabbage was watery and insipid. It was obvious that all available vegetables had been overcooked plus having ‘sat’ for a considerable time on display. 3 of our family opted for the chocolate mousse which was un-chilled. They gave it a bye-ball at the table. Coffee to finish was boiled to death, reminiscent of a brew of a one-star Spanish all- inclusive.

We arrived around 10 minutes early on Fathers Day for the buffet and were directly straight to the room where a young girl said she would escort us to our table. She walked straight ahead to the end of the room (which was an L shape) and clearly didn't know where our table was, she then turned around and walked back, another staff member even asked if she was ok, we were directed around all the tables before we pointed out our table number. Drinks: No one took our drink order and we struggled to get a staff members attention, during our main course we were able to ask a member of staff if it was possible to get a drink, 10 minutes later I got up and asked another staff member, extremely poor service. It was dessert before we had a drink. Meal: I went to the main table and already there was no bread left, I waited but no one seemed to be replenishing it. I then went over to get soup, there this is where our queuing began, there was only 3 people in front of me and it took 10 minutes to get soup and I then had to queue again to get food from the childrens counter where there was little room to sit a plate when you have more than one childs plate. After soup I went up to get my main, again I had to queue. Finally I went up to get dessert where strangely they insisted on serving rather than letting people help them selvees, this results in at least a 10 minute wait. Due to the location of the dessert table the queue was past the kitchen doors which meant everyone was constantly moving back and fourth as staff needed into the kitchen. A number of people in the queue were complaining of the wait. My son wanted something else from the desserts section however due to the queue I told him he couldn't have and instead brought him for ice cream after we left the hotel. The food itself was very nice unfortunately I prefer to go to a more relaxed dinner where I don't have spend more time queuing than eating. Childrens entertainment: After food we went over to the entertainment room for kids, there was a bouncy castle, soft gun play and a girl doing balloon and face painting. I went over and queued for a balloon. I thought the queuing for the food was bad enough however there was only one girl doing face painting and balloon modelling which meant I ended up waiting over 40 minutes which is absolutely ridiculous but as with every parent when you tell a child they will get a balloon you cannot come back empty handed. The whole experience was not the relaxing fathers day we had planned. I usually go to the stormont hotel buffet on Sundays which stagger the number of people throughout the sitting however La Mon had everyone turning up at the same time which created queues and prevented staff from replenishing items.

I had the opportunity to revisit the Sunday Carvery and have to say it was much improved from my last visit. As always the starter was great, a wide variety of choice and very tastey. I was pleased to see nice roast potatoes with a sprinkle of herbs and some fresh carrots etc and the mash was not so sloppy as last time. The staff were attentive and polite. This was a much better experience than last time. Well done La Mon.

My husband and I went to the Carvery on Sunday for his birthday treat. The staff were very attentive and friendly however the food was extremely disappointing. They boast about the 25 choices of starter which was very nice but that is as far as it goes. The main course choice of meat was varied but rather tasteless. That we could have coped with if we had nice vegetables to eat however, the roast potatoes were soft and tasteless as was the mash potato. The only other vegetable choice was chopped cabbage and leek, and what looked to me like frozen mixed vegetable. There were no other fresh vegatables at all. The desserts were not much better, my husband had carrot cake which was just ok, I love sweet stuff, but unfortunately my choice of banoffee was the wrong one, the pastry base was bland and there was a distinct lack of toffee filling. I would just say we have been to weddings and eaten in the Bistro with no complaints it is just the Carvery that we will not be back at.

If you are hungry on a Sunday you need to go to La Mon carvey. Food is good atmosphere is lovely. Although as a family, it can be quite expensive especially if on an occasion. We wanted to go on 17/6 this year which so happened to be Fathers Day although we were not going for Fathers Day but for daughters birthday. Fathers Day price is hiked higher again.

I attended the La Mon House Hotel for a family birthday. We had the Sunday carvery which was excellent, spoiled for choice and everything was delicious. Normally the meats at a carvery are cut wafer thin but that was not the case here! Offered as much as you wanted and all served with a smile by very attentive staff.

Bit disappointed this year to be honest. Went to the 4.30 carvery instead of our usual 1.30 time. No lamb on offer - at Easter. Not good. Starter is very good. Main course also good - but no lamb. Deserts weren’t great - looked good but didn’t deliver on taste - very heavy and dense. Bouncy castle, Easter hunt, face painting and donkey rides for children. Donkey rides are an additional cost. Music throughout meal. Noticed a big difference between the 1.30 and 4.30 time slots. Wouldn’t go to 4.30 again.

Me esperaba algo mucho mejor.

What can I say ,disappointed. We went to the La mon for a birthday treat when we arrived we had to wait at the reception desk for quite a while as the only member of staff was on the phone and we didn't know where to go.My sister had to go looking for somebody else to help us.We joined the small queue and were shown to a nice table while we were getting seated a waiter brought us bottles of water which was nice. We went up for our starters and joined a few people which if there was any more of a queue it would have been almost impossible to get get to the food,it is a very cramped space as I only wanted soup I had to reach over a table to get to the pot because the other people were waiting to get the pasta etc.I had to leave the bread as I couldn't get near it.My soup was lovely and my family enjoyed the starters they said there was a good selection but was positioned too high and soup spoons were in place to lift salad and pasta etc.Main course I picked roast beef and lamb with all the trimmings and my family picked ham and turkey.I am sorry but it all was average,we all felt that for £23.95 it was a let down. There was a great selection of sweets I had a slice of cheesecake it was nice .No one at our table said they would return there are so many places to choose from I would not come back.On a better note the dining staff were lovely and professional.

This was excellent. The food was varied and fresh and there was a lot of it. The only criticism I would have is that the actual serving area is a little cramped and quite hard to reach what you want when the area is crowded. The carvery has four sittings on a Sunday afternoon 12.45, 1.45, 3.45 & 4.45pm. I was one of a group of 4 dining at the 3.45pm sitting. On arriving we were advised the carvery would commence shortly and after a few minutes we noticed people moving towards the dining room, there was no announcement or other notice. We were shown to our table by a member of the restaurant staff and our drink order was taken shortly. However, on going to the starters area, we found the soup was still being heated and had to wait. There was a good selection of cold starters, salads, pate etc. The main course had a good range of roasts with all the trimmings, and there was a wide range of desserts. However, we did feel rushed as the waiting staff were over keen to lift your plate as soon as you put down your cutlery, even though others at the table were still eating. This created a sense of urgency and we felt rushed. When dining with friends I like time to chat and relax, if staff had 'held off' a little until all those at the table had finished and then cleared we would have felt more relaxed and the experience would have been more enjoyable.

As a party of 9 we booked the carvery on the understanding we would be able to watch the football after the meal. The person who booked the meal was assured by the hotel that we would be facilitated to watch the game.Regarding the carvery, it was disappointing considering the cost of £24.95 per person. You had the usual soup, starters which were average and then the main consisting of various cooked meats. I had the ham which was undercooked or had not been left to rest after cooking and the lamb was full of fat. The potatoes and vegetables were ok. I finished of with the trifle and have tasted better from store bought trifles. The only service was when they collect the dishes from the table. No how was your meal or is everything ok.Finished the meal and went to find the TV room only to be told that they no longer had sky and were changing to BT sport, so we could not see the match. Now considering the reason for booking this establishment was to get a meal and then have a few beers while watching the match was the reason for booking. Had we known this would have been a problem we would have booked somewhere closer to home.I personally would not recommend the carvery and this is nothing to do with the let down we experienced, The food was mediocre and overpriced. Will not be returning to this hotel.

My friend and I decided to treat ourselves. So we booked ourselves in for a treat of afternoon tea and a spa treatment offer.Unfortunately, it was just OK. We were promised scones with chantilly cream... Just plain whipped cream! Despite paying extra for the DELUXE afternoon tea. We also got different items than advertised. The sandwiches were just ok, but had clearly been made up hours before as they were curled up and hard at the edges. Not very decadent! We then went for our treatment deal, which sounded good on paper. However, be warned, massages are spa massages! I.e. Not very good! The therapist was lovely, however, failed to understand a "deep tissue massage!" It was more like someone trailing their fingers along my back! If you want deep tissue, this is NOT the place to come!We also planned to spend time in the pool, steam rooms etc. They are all in one area... The same area screaming, shrieking little children splash and jump in the pool while parents "entertain" their children. Obviously, I gave this a miss! I didn't want to be in the same pool as babies and toddlers screeching and wearing nappies! Superbly disappointing and a lame attempt at calling itself "a spa!" I don't imagine I'll be back anytime soon!

Children in our party had not been advised the bouncy castle would close at 17-30. Therefore they were turned away and very disappointed. For a 4star hotel to allow at least 10 people to stand outside main entrance is totally unacceptable and BREAKING THE LAW there is a set distance smokers must be away from main entrance doors this needs to be enforced with lines or marking to show where to stand. Overall don't bother with this carvery at best very average. Oh and sprouts where like bullets

We were staying over at the La Mon as there was a large ball being held in their Ballygowan Suite. Was fairly impressed with their catering and the venue as a whole, but very underwhelmed at our room. Sparsely decorated in a travel lodge style - but not even to this standard. No shower curtain so everything got soaked, small double bed in a room that could've easily accommodated a King, and curtains and a decor which have seen better days in the 80s! Surprised, as I have heard better reports about the La Mon than my own personal experience on this visit.

I had the pleasure of bringing a rather large group of friends to 'La Mon' for Sunday Lunch, I had heard of the 'famous Carvery' , & decided to give it a try.I found the staff member who took my reservation request to be very helpful & accommodating and indeed found everything to be exactly as she said it would be on our arrival.A waitress gave us the 'drill' as far as the buffet/Carvery was concerned, the selection of starters was very extensive & also very delicious, followed by a very wide selection of cooked meats & joints... Equally delicious... Then there were the desserts to contend with.. After coffee all eleven of our party departed La Mon fully satisfied & having had an incredible Sunday Lunch.I would say however that a little more room& space in the area of the carvery would make such a difference, diners lining up to be served seemed to be 'crossing over' the paths that the waiting staffwere taking 'en route' to the kitchen after clearing tables..I did see one lady diner in an electric wheelchair having some difficulties negotiating a way from the carvery to her table..I must say that the negatives I have just mentioned did not take away from our dining experience at 'La Mon'

We ate here both nights we were in Belfast. The pie, seafood chowder and chicken burger were all delicious. We got a table in the bar easily both nights as it was quiet. It felt like a traditional Irish pub and the staff were lovely The toilets need a refurb though in my opinion.

Nice to see an essentially mini Trademarket re-establish itself. Really cute decor and whilst there is a roof, there’s a large gap and from the alleyway, it’s still somewhat exposed to the elements so dress warmly (and the food will cool very quickly!). I couldn’t see any signage to the toilets though which would be a nice addition. Orto pizza was really nice. Wings weren’t to my liking but not really a wing person so wing lovers can discard that! Recommend!

Six friends arrived for lunch in McHughs on our annual day out in Belfast together and were shown to the upstairs restaurant area. All very nice , exposed brickwork showing its historical past ,nice views etc. We all ordered the Irish Stew and some beers - a safe bet one might say!The waiter was friendly and helpful. The stew however was dreadful - very few potatoes not much meat and what there was ,was swimming in gloopy, odd tasting gravy. We were a local group from rural Ards who know their Irish Stew ,but everyone was disappointed at what was presented. After pointing out this issue we had to ask to see the manager . She arrived and after looking at what remained in the dishes she said she would speak to someone and disappeared. That was the last we saw of her. No ‘sorry about that and hope you come back again’ - nothing ,she just hid.We finished our beers ,asked for the bill , from which the stews had been removed and paid for the beers. We were astonished the manager didn’t return and there was an overwhelming sense of a lost opportunity by the manager to make the best of a bad situation. She made a disappointing meal worse by ignoring us and the issue. It wasn’t about discount or anything - it was about somebody agreeing the stew was poor and apologising. McHugh’s - get your act together for the sake of the real tourists!
