La Mimosa in Cambridge

Ich bin jetzt seit einigen Jahren ständiger Gast hier, meist schaffe ich es einmal im Jahr nach Cambridge zu fahren und dann ist meine erste Adresse natürlich dass Mimosa Die Speisen sind immer frisch zubereitet und von exzellenten Geschmack! Man merkt, mit welcher Liebe hier das Essen zubereitet wird. Das Dessert ist zum niederknien :-D Der Chef ist immer zu einem Scherz bereit und hat mich tatsächlich nach zwei Jahren Abstinenz wieder erkannt Die schlechten Bewertungen kann ich nicht verstehen, aber es liegt ja oftmals auch nicht an der Lokalität oder dem Wirt, sondern wenn ein Gast wie ein König behandelt werden will, möge er sich bitte auch wie ein solcher benehmen

We were a group of seven and we really enjoyed our meals here. Nice atmosphere and service and fab food.

An excellent meal with excellent service. They even helped my wife (who is learning Italian) when ordering re certain Italian practices with food. We had one of the starter specials, one of the main course specials. The balance was from the main menu. It was so friendly, you couldn’t help but enjoy a nice relaxed lunch. Thoroughly recommend.

A wonderful family run Italian restaurant in the heart of Cambridge. There was a wonderful atmosphere and the staff were all very attentive and knowledgeable. The menu was simple and quite short, but there were so many things we fancied eating on it that it was still hard to choose. The mushrooms on toast were amazing as was the prawn & avocado salad for starters. The carbonara was amazing! Huge portion and so tasty. The ravioli, chicken and lasagne was amazing too. I had an Irish coffee for afters which was spot on.

Impromtu visit. Staff were very welcoming but not over the top. Unfortunately we were in a hurry but they accommodated us. Cold starters followed by two of the pasta dishes were all excellent. House wine was very drinkable. Will return when next in Cambridge and have more time.

This was our first time at La Mimosa and it will not be our last. The food was excellent, the staff are lovely and the ambience was just right.

Moved out of Cambridge and I know I'll miss La Mimosa, it's such a sure-fire bet on amazing food and good service. It's amazing, and the location is just an absolute bonus. Love it.

RUDE! 4 of us, 2 male and 2 females in our 40s and smartly dressed, walked in and asked if there was a table available. The restaurant was mostly empty. The lady at the bar asked us to wait and someone would seat us. After 5 minutes we were still waiting and some other customers bustled past us and sat themselves down. The head waiter went straight up to them and asked them what drinks they would like. We asked at the bar again if we could have a table and we’re told ‘those customers are regular, they take priority’. So we went to a different restaurant.

I have had several fantastic meals at La Mimosa. The food tastes like Italy, and the staff are all fantastic. 10/10 I cannot recommend them highly enough.

I had a lovely evening at La Mimosa last night. Great food and excellent service and a wonderful outside terrace by the river - perfect for a warm summer evening although the main restaurant looks great too!

When after 15 days of English food, you feel the need for Italian flavours, come to the Mimosa restaurant. Good food! I tried the Neapolitan bruschetta and the Bolognese lasagna. Everything as per tradition. You can choose the outdoor table overlooking the River Cam. Excellent beer.

Quando dopo 15 giorni di cibo inglese, senti il bisogno di sapori italiani vieni alla Mimosa ristorante. Cibo buono! Ho assaggiato le bruschette napoletane e le lasagne alla bolognese. Tutto come da tradizione. Si può scegliere il tavolo all’aperto con vista sul fiume Cam. Ottima birra.

Lovely place, food was really good and reasonably priced. Was chatting to the owner who was really friendly and welcoming!

We have been coming to La Mimosa for twenty years with friends and family. Always excellent food, excellent service and lovely atmosphere. For us it is the best restaurant in Cambridge.

We visited our favourite restaurant in Cambridge again having struggled to get a reservation because it’s always busy. The food was great as usual and the owners including their lovely daughter on the bar did a fantastic service. If your in the area give it a go Tony and Karen

You’ve got to try this place it’s a proper old school pizza with the dough done by the magical Don - with the superb service from the staff special mention to Jacob who even though he’s only 21 is the pizza maker - unbelievable beautiful fantastic pizza - not expensive what a great night out, thank you to everyone involved in this magical restaurant

They claim to be authentic Italian but they clearly have never eaten Italian food before. They serve ravioli in a veggie soup and Pizza Hut quality pizza. The prices were outrageous compared to the quality of the food. I was shocked to see how many people were in there, when the place should clearly change management.

The food was very good. The steak was delicious and the sea bass too. The pasta was the only one that was not that popular with the group. The location is nice, and service excellent. The house wine was very good too in general very happy to have visited this place. Worth a visit definitely

Dont bother coming if you havent booked. Very rude guy (looks like he’s the owner) will just ask you to leave. He shut the door in front of a few people asking, when he couldve said nicely. No need to be rude.

5 stars isn’t enough! Incredible hospitality and the food is impeccable. Our favourite restaurant in not only the city of Cambridge but also all of the UK. The ravioli al gamberetti is the best pasta dish I’ve ever had. The crostini alla napoletana is also excellent. We return time and time again, and are never disappointed

Lovely restaurant with outdoor seating by the river. We enjoyed pizza, lasagna, penne arrabiatta and garlic bread. They also do some very tasty home made desserts. This place is very popular so make sure to book as walk-ins aren’t guaranteed, especially during peak season.

This restaurant has an excellent location right on the Cam River where most of the punting tours start. The staff is very friendly. The chicken salad was delicious as was the pizza and lasagna. Ample space to eat outside if one desires.

The older gentleman walking around seating people lets you know this place is worth eating at. The daughters that are serving you mom's cooking a reminder of why you'll be back.

So inhuman, I am 6 month pregnant and I requested them for the toilet, but they refused me and were so rude, the receptionist said that it's only for the customers, I should go for the public toilet, he was too rude. I had an emergency and requested him a lot but he didn't allow me. This happened today (29th June) at 19: 35 pm. So disappointed.

Asked for tap water earlier for my wife as she was extremely thirsty due to heat. Staff refused to provide us water.

We visited this restaurant tonight and it was easily the best place we have eaten at in Cambridge. The food was really good both starter and main. My husband had the sea bass and he said it was cooked perfectly I had tagliatelle and it was delicious. The service was just right really relaxed and I would say if you are in Cambridge give this place a visit it's definitely one not to miss.

We visited for dinner on a Tuesday evening and were very lucky to get a table in this popular restaurant. We both enjoyed a sea bass dish which came with vegetables and potatoes. It is an authentically Italian restaurant with good service and a good atmosphere. Payment is taken at the till.

Had a wonderful dinner at La Mimosa this evening. The location is great, and the ambience, food and service are even better. Pasta was perfect for me and my wife had a pizza that she could not fault. We really cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough. Visit it soon: you will not be disappointed.

Celebrated our wedding anniversary, first experience of la Mimosa, brilliant hosts, and delicious food, made to feel very welcome, will most definitely return soon.

Delicious, well prepared dishes

Disappointing food, I’m not really sure why I’ve seen reviews saying this place is authentic as you can get. You just wouldn’t get served some of the food here in Italy. Garlic bread, I mean, it’s a no brainer easy to get right, bang out tasty and please the customers and make a tidy return on. We got dry, burnt around the edges bread which garlic had not even smiled at. I would have sent back if we hadn’t been with friends. My pizza looked like a mccains frozen job, tasted slightly better but at £15? I can get fresh tasty pizza at home in comparable sized city restaurant that makes a mockery of this. The puddings had some of the ‘classics’ on, and some erm, not really Italian. I shared some chocolate cake with my wife and it just looked and tasted bought in- nonna would have had a fit. I tasted my son’s panna cotta- it was like milk with gelatine in. Best thing about the meal- the water and espresso. Sorry guys, but authentic Italian this ain’t and I begrudge paying £140 for 4 people for 2 courses and half a bottle of wine and 2 cokes (and the first course was only 2x garlic bread).

Staff were friendly, helpful and polite. Plus the pizzas were delicious

Had Maria as our waitress and what a pleasure she was. Very welcoming and accommodated our needs. My partner and I went for the carbonara and lasagne, and both agreed was the best we’ve ever encountered. This place is a must to visit if you love traditional Italian. We’ll be back soon!

Fabulous experience at La Mimosa for our family meal on Saturday evening. The food was excellent and service friendly and attentive. Would thoroughly recommend this place.

This was just perfect. Not too big but there was plenty of space between the tables that you didn't feel as though you were sat on another tables knee. People came and went whilst we were there but were never made to feel we needed to leave. The staff were attentive but not sat on your shoulder. The food was delightful we all enjoyed everything.

Fantastic food and service in a lovely neighbourhood location just outside of the mad hustle and bustle of the city centre. Staff were absolutely charming and service was speedy and attentive. We were genuinely impressed by the simplicity of the food and the flavours - it felt very much like elevated home cooking and all the better for it. Particularly recommend the spinach and ricotta ravioli which was light, flavourful and very fresh.

From the phone call to book the table to the farewell at the door a wonderful experience at this family run resturant. So friendly and welcoming, the best Italian food we have had, and at a very reasonable price. The location on the River Cam just a few minutes from city centre, by the punt boat operators, is stunning, the sort of place you might expect to be a bit of a tourist trap rip off, but absolutely not! After a superb meal and a few very reasonably priced glasses of great house wine/prosecco, we meandered back to our accomodation along the river bank path. Perfect! Go there!

Visited on a lovely warm Friday evening for a Mum and Daughter dinner, we arrived 30mins before our booking, the staff accommodated our early arrival and were so friendly and pleasant! The food was incredible and the wine was fantastic. Atmosphere was so beautiful I would highly highly highly recommend visiting!

This has to be one of (if not) the best restaurants on Cambridge. The family run establishment provides food that's simply magnificent. This is my 3rd visit to this restaurant, and it just keeps getting better. Courteous, friendly, and knowledgeable staff with the style and panache of a top top top restaurant. 5 stars for everything

This is quite a nice restaurant. But the food is a bit polarising. A number of people in the group I went with liked it a lot. If you're after a pleasant meal in a nice setting, La Mimosa can provide. But don't go in with expectations of solid Italian food as, in my opinion, it's a bit disappointing. I think at the price point of £30pp, I expected more.

The food we had at La Mimosa was so great, my girlfriend finished her Ravioli with crayfish and prawn before I did, and that never happens! I had the chicken and mushroom, which was spectacular, the sauce is incredible especially. We were fortunate that this restaurant was closeby our hotel, it is worth the travel to experience the good alone. The service was warm and friendly and the waiter was singing as he carried our food over to us, adding a excellent touch to the atmosphere Would definitely visit again!

I would give this place a zero but its impossible. The service is dreadful! The wait was 20 minutes even though there were empty seats everywhere.

Forgot to pack a picnic? This place is great for ordering pizzas to-go so you can enjoy in the park. Dining in is fine, but not a must. They do have the coveted chili-oil if you are a fan of dipping your crust.

Absolutely tasty food. We ordered salate, pasta and dish of the day and all were super tasty. Aperol was well made as well which is rare nowadays in Cambridge. Nice view on the river. Highly reccomended to visit

We had a lovely dinner. Everything was delicious, the appetizers exceeded my expectations. attentive staff. great location near the river is what you need on a hot summer day. We had a great meal and will definitely be back again soon.

Amazing food and service in a beautiful venue, bliss!

We arrived for our reservation and were told to wait for someone to seat us. After waiting 10 mins and not being acknowledged by any waiting staff we were finally seated by a grumpy, blunt waiter. The restaurant was not near full capacity to warrant such a delay. The female waiter on the other hand was much more friendly. The starters were very nice (garlic bread and mushrooms) and so was the carbonara but the vegetarian pizza tasted equivalent to a supermarket oven pizza. The location by the river is lovely. A bit of a mixed experience which could be easily improved by a better waiter.

I mean these guys are beyond rude. We phoned for a reservation (the only way you can book as per their website) 20 times with no answer. So we decided to chance our arm anyway. We walked 20 minutes and asked if maybe they had a quick 30 minute table for a pizza at 6pm and all we got was a super dismissive ‘we’re full’ and a turned back. I said that they should pick up the phone when people call (as all their advertising suggests we do that! Call for take away and table bookings!) and all I got was ‘you can see how busy we are’. AND ‘if you dont like how we operate go somewhere else!’. Honestly?! Just the rudest reception I’ve ever had and I am someone that doesn’t normally care. Don’t go near this place. Family run?! Perhaps by not the best family !

Before we had our dinner in the restaurant I went in to get a nice hot chocolate with Baileys for takeaway to have something warm on that quite cold punting tour, which started next to the restaurant. After that, we were hungry and decided to go back to this very nice and authentic Italian restaurant. You could directly tell that it is a family-run business - we got to know the business owner, who was telling us about the 20 year history of the the business and his family, his wonderful wife and youngest daughter supporting him that evening. We ate the sea bass and crab ravioli which were fantastic. The restaurant is beautifully situated directly next to the river with an amazing outdoor area. The restaurant itself is very charming and comfortable furnished. All in all a perfect and delicious evening with the pleasant nature of the local run family business. 100% recommended!!!

A fantastic Italian that I only found out about by being invited to a intimate wedding reception there. The food was great and the service is very much traditional Italian style, friendly and make you feel like a member of the family.

We called mid afternoon about a table booking for that evening. Although me and my partner thought that the answer would be no, we were very surprised that the owner was able to accommodate us. The owners are very warm and welcoming people. The food was spot on and we have never had a bad meal in the past. It is a lovley restaurant and both my partner and I were very pleased with the experience I would recommend this restaurant to anyone!

Great location but they won't allow you to use their wc even for paying customers unless you're seated. They claim the toilets are very old - well upgrade them then! The owner needs to change their attitude i won't be visiting again.

Met an old school friend I hadn't seen for a while and La Mimosa sounded ideal but we hadn't been before. We were not disappointed, the place was immaculate, staff friendly, obliging and very patient as we were chatting so much! Cost was very reasonable also and would definitely go there again if in Cambridge. We ate at 1pm on a Saturday. Well done La Mimosa.

Lovely food. We did wait for a bit for the menu but the waitress ( assume the owner) is so nice and warm....we loved the food and atmosphere was amazing. Highly recommended 👌

The customer service we received from the owners at this restaurant was absolutely appalling. They treated me and my friends with a shocking level of disrespect and disdain, leaving us feeling incredibly disappointed and upset. I strongly advise against dining here if you're looking for a cozy and inviting atmosphere.

Ravioli was so delicious my partner wanted to lick the bowl and the carbonara was just as good As has been said before the chocolate cake is delicious. Terrific service so 10/10 and thank you for a wonderful meal

Fairly average main options for the price but very tasty and well-presented deserts (must try their chocolate cake), excellent location by the riverside and great customer service. Would definitely recommend booking a table for dinner with the family or a group of friends, especially if you’re in central Cambridge on a warm, sunny summer evening!
