Charlie's Coffee Company in Cambridge

As an aged couple on a two night break in Cambridge, on our way back to our hotel we stopped outside Geovannis to look at the menu. A young lady came out and tempted us in, and are we glad she did. It rounded off a fab day with a meal , a drink, a great atmosphere and excellent service. In our 70's we are used to being disappointed , the young but efficient staff were excellent, the food great and we had a great evening. Top notch!!

Best pizza in Cambridge. Nice location both for a dinner and for a cup of coffee. The staff are very friendly and understanding. Our autistic child really enjoys the place!

We ordered about 20 pizzas for an after work event and they were exquisite!! Would highly reccomend this pizzeria. I called up ahead to plan this larger order and Giovanni was incredibly helpful and courteous. We had a variety of veggie, vegan, gluten free and regular pizzas and there were no complaints from anyone. Thanks so much again!

Got the creme di caffe. It's decaffeinated but still very refreshing. Reminiscent of the popular dalgona whipped coffee. I don't know if that's blasphemous. It's not in the menu I think but you can ask for it and it's £4.35 as of 04/11/24 Staff were really friendly and welcoming. They make you feel at ease and just offer their input before or after your meal so none of that awkward answering how the food is with your mouth full lol. The atmosphere is joyous, ambient and authentic. Would come again to try their food next time :) come check it out.

Best pizza in Cambridge from a wonderful Sardinian owner, keep it going guys!

It was my first visit to Giovanni's but certainly won't be my last. From arrival and throughout the staff were warm, friendly and always smiling. We had a large Ham & Mushroom Pizza and garlic bread with cheese and they were delicious. Super tasty, fresh and authentic. Can't rate the place highly enough.

The best pizza and service in Cambridge! Highly recommend!

We stopped off here while waiting for something, and needless to say, we're both blown away by how good the food is. We sat outside, and the waiter was really kind, giving us the menus and telling us to order at the bar once we'd decided. I ordered one of their "New York" sandwiches (mozzarella and pepperoni) and dad ordered a bacon and egg breakfast sandwich (even though it was 3pm!)... and calling them sandwiches is a huge understatement - we're talking fresh bread baked to perfection in a pizza oven, and everything just tasted amazing. Mine had the longest cheese pull ever, and dad's bacon was cooked perfectly. To top it off, we ordered brownies, which were delectable, super soft and chocolatey! It was so good, we'll be coming back in the near future!

Good pizzeria with many types of pizzas but without much variety of salads.

At a first glance I thought I was stumbling across an authentic Italian, the service was very approachable at first. I ordered their vegetarian salad, bruschetta and a side of olives with a double espresso for my drink. The coffee was great. Strong, just the way I like it. But unfortunately everything else was average at best. The salad wasn’t vegetarian, like it depicted on the menu but luckily I am not a vegetarian so I put up with what looked like prosciutto on the plate. I was not a fan of the bruschetta, it was dried herbs on top instead of fresh basil so I left it. I decided to request for a takeaway box for my food 5 minutes after ordering to eat at my hotel because the atmosphere was not enjoyable outside, there was a lot of commotion that was outside of the restaurants control. After asking how my food was, I mentioned that everything was okay apart from I was not a fan of the bruschetta. The feedback that I got from my comment was not professional, they were very offended by my comment when I was just being honest. I explained a refund or an exchange might satisfy me for the bruschetta as I didn’t find it was worth the price and I had only taken two bites. The gentlemen who I believe may have been the chef, flat out refused and made me feel really bad. He accused me that he believed I ordered too much and that was the only reason for the compliant. This was not the case, I had barely touched my food because of the unsatisfactory atmosphere so was still hungry. He also mentioned that they had already provided me with a takeaway box, like this was a huge request. No exchange or refund was even entertained. I won’t be returning here or recommending to anyone I know, which is sad as I had a good feeling initially.

What a great little pizza place. Truely yummy food. Service always excellent and attentive. Menu selection great to suit all tastes. Impressive.

Many months ago Giovanni, you made the size of the ice cream cone smaller whilst keeping the price the same. You thought nobody had noticed, but I had. Made me very upset, and I haven't been in ever since. The food is great though, pizzas are amazing and service is so polite and quick. Just don't get the ice cream because it used to be better :( It wouldn't let me add a reply to the owners response. But the diameter of the cone was drastically reduced (I also think the height was too, but assume it wasn't). Combining this with the formula for a cone will tell you that it's been reduced by an inverse square amount whilst the price stays constant. The taste and quality has stayed the same, but it's no longer a "bang for your buck".

A nice atmosphere but I would not recommend this place to anyone who is coeliac. I was assured the food would be prepared safely but unfortunately there was cross contamination and I reacted badly after the meal.

I orderd a mozzerella, tomato, and basil sandwich, it was mostly just tomato but it was passable, my partner ordered a Charlie’s full breakfast sandwich and the first thing we noticed was there was only half a peice of bacon inside it, he reluctantly ate his sandwhich, I left mine as it was tasteless and inside was mushy, at the end just before we left, a waiter approached and asked if all was okay, I politely explained there was only half a peice of bacon in my partners sandwich, the waiter became rude and defensive, he said nobody complains here everybody loves it and there was supposed to be four peices of bacon inside the sandwhich, we did explain there was only half of one peice to which he replied, there is always four… after this we decided not to get dessert, and we left.. never in my life have I had such an arrogant waiter… won’t be returning or suggesting the place to anyone anytime.. the experience was awful.

Very nice little pizzeria mixed with a cafe. All tables have different designs. Very friendly and attentive staff. You order and pay at the counter, then the food is brought to the table. Everything is fine, gladly again.

Went for a Tuesday dinner before a movie, and the food was tasty as always but have to praise the service, we were welcomed with a smile and throughout the whole meal they were super friendly and attentive.

Great pizza! Great place to get a coffee and a nice slice of cake. And a nice play area for kids too! :-) June 2024 update: This place is still awesome! The pizza is delicious, just like it used to be! The staff is friendly! No more play equipment like it used to have, but it means there’s more room for seating and it’s less crowded.

Do not order corn ice creams from here. It’s terrible, they are frozen and old and what you get at the end is a frozen solid ice piece and some chocolates in it. I haven’t order other food from here but the ice creams try somewhere else but not here.

I ordered pizza ı was expecting pizza it was flatbread with salad ham and Buffalo mozzarella on top, of course without taste I changed with aubergine pizza. Nice crispy delicious

Really bad food… salty and burnt sandwich

I went here 2 years ago when it was Charlie’s coffee and now it’s called Giovanni’s. Mr. Giovanni still manages the till and serves the customers with a bright smile and enthusiasm. All the staff are young, bright and beaming with smiles to serve customers which is a big positive factor. Food is authentic and absolutely delightful. Cappuccinos and espresso were as good as you get in Italy. The Tiramisu we tried was authentic and brilliant ! The time spent was very pleasant and welcoming !

Went there for a company social on a pizza making class. Throughly enjoyed it, learnt so much, the food was delicious and service brilliant!

Today we had a big order of Giovanni's at my work of 20 pizzas overall. I agree with a lot of the comments stating that this is one of the best pizzas you'll find in cambridge. They are huge!

My friends and I eagerly arrived at the pizza place after hearing rave reviews about their pies. However, our excitement quickly waned as we found ourselves waiting for over 45 minutes despite the lack of a crowd. When we approached the chef about the delay, his response was unexpectedly rude, insisting he, as the owner, knew best and dismissing our concerns. Even after presenting evidence of our lengthy wait, he remained dismissive, leaving us feeling disregarded. Upon finally receiving our pizzas, we were underwhelmed. Far from the promised quality, they were overly greasy and lacked flavour. Additionally, witnessing the owner's disrespectful behaviour towards the young girls working for him, all he was doing was shouting at them in front of everyone. This disappointing encounter served as a lesson learned, prompting us to seek out an authentic Italian restaurant for our next dining excursion.

I ordered a milkshake for just under £5. This came in the tiniest glass possible, with clearly very little ice-cream in it. This is very pricey for what is basically a glass of milk. Meanwhile, I have seen people having similar drinks in standard milkshake glasses. I felt robbed and won't go back.

Great place for pizza, and incredible service. Giovanni and his team know how to make you feel welcomed, with lots of little attentions and the right questions asked at the right time. The pizza was fabulous, and despite the size (their large pizzas are MASSIVE!) it was very easy to eat - and that’s always a sign for a good pizza dough. I loved the veggie options, and the fact that there was also vegan mozzarella as an alternative (great touch!). The dessert selection was really interesting as well, I really suggest the cold coffee cream and the tiramisu. Will definitely go back!

Helpful and friendly staff en delicious pizza

Only good things to share for this lovely gem of Cambridge. I went with my family and it was super busy, yet we got seating quickly and our food also came fast, probably around 25 mins wait for it despite the amount of people there! We ordered the spring pizza, the Dr Johnny pizza and the vegan salad. And we were all very pleased, balanced flavours, not overloaded with oils or anything. Also great portion sizes for the price! For drinks we had the illy coffee frosty, a flat white and a cappuccino. I can highly recommend the coffee/dessert made with illy coffee called Illy crema for anyone who can’t handle caffeine but wants to try the coffee, I didn’t get shakes or anything and it tasted smooth and delicious. Both my parents reported the coffee was a trusty consistently good cuppa each time. Lastly I wanted to say a thank you to the staff who recommended the Illy Crema and also as we stayed a while they offered a Limincello on the house which was very kind. Such a lovely place!

While the food from Giovanni’s is always the best and I highly recommend it, the Just Eat service was the lowest you could imagine. We chose to have our food delivered by 8.20pm. Without any notification from the system, at some point I checked and saw that delivery was predicted 8.40-9pm…then 9.05-9.25. Called the restaurant which had no original time but just the schedule sent by JE. I will never ever used it again, sending this and deleting the app. Terrible!

We vote this the best pizza in Cambridge. Crunchy borders, thin, fantastic quality toppings. If like us you can’t stand the Napoli style pizza you won’t go anywhere else. Massive size pizza and friendly service too! Just a lovely, civilised, delicious time.

We went and the pizza was perfect! The fries came separately but they were perfect with the already perfect Dr Johnny pizza +5 stars for food Service was good, it was busy when we went so it seemed like it was ages when we were waiting however I still say it was very good for only having 2 waiters. +4 stars for service ATMOSPHERE WAS PERFECT, there is no way you can say it was horrible. One of the chefs we know was very welcoming as always and there is no way you can put the service lower than 5 stars. +5 stars thanks to the PERFECT team working here.

This is one of my favourite cafes, the trains are super fun! I absolutely love having them inside the tables. I like their drinks and pastries and the staff are pretty chill and helpful. Really lovely set up too

Unexpected find, restaurant with very happy staff. They show you to a table, with menu, choices made, need to go to the till. Place your order and pay. Can sit inside or few tables and chairs outside. Each pizza, calzone is handmade, pizza oven there also. My pizza was very tasty. Next time I will ask for buffalo mozarella, I treated myself to tirimaso, wow all amazing. Cant wait to go back. Highly recommended, located in burleigh street, cambridge x

I feel like I need to come back and try the pizzas, as they looked amazing. Sandwich was OK, but didn't have a lot of flavour. Iced coffee was good, but more bitter than my preference. Staff were friendly and helpful.

We lived in Sardinia for 4 years where the pizzas are next to none . We left over 20 years ago and have never, until now found a pizzeria in main land Italy or the UK to match those we so enjoyed in the Cagliari area of Sardinia. If you have never been to Giovanni’s you must!. Friendly staff, excellent service and superb pizzas . Mile grazie Giovanni.

We asked Giovanni to cater for our party.. the experience was perfect in any sense: delicious pizza, great communication and service. My guests were amazed for how good the pizza was and we paid a very fair price for it. Absolutely recommended :)

Came in on a Sunday afternoon. The restaurant was quite busy, but our pizza still took a very long time to arrive, with tables who came in after us being served before us. After 45 minutes of waiting, we politely asked staff how much longer it was likely to be, at which point it became clear that our order had been forgotten. I asked whether it might be good for them to offer us some free drinks as the ones we had ordered were long since finished, to which the waitress agreed. A different waiter then brought said drinks as well as a card machine, expecting us to pay for them. When that I explained that I would not be paying for them, the 'manager', a young lad who hasn't quite grasped the need to be polite with his customers, spoke to us in a confrontational manner, basically saying we were lying and claiming only 20 minutes had elapsed (I had the time of the transaction on my ApplePay) and reiterating his desire that we cough up. When the pizzas did finally arrive they were average. They weren't quite as bad as welcome we had here though.

A real piece of Italy in Cambridge, pizza in the open oven, which makes it truly special! Advised!

Really friendly service from the minute we walked through the door. They even indulged my broken Italian attempts. Food was as delicious as ever and super quick. Huge pizza topped with real quality ingredients, caprese salad, Prosecco and Aperol Slritz for around £30. Read a few reviews that are saying it’s expensive but if comparing like to like quality then I think it’s well priced. A Pizza Hut or domino’s is more expensive and no where near the same quality.

The pizza was weirdly cut some very small and some very big slices. The pizza was ok but not as good as in the restaurant compared to other places it’s really same in restaurant or delivery this one was different taste and cold.

I went here with my Italian boss and had such a good time! It’s a lovely place, really friendly and the pizzas are gorgeous! I will be going back!

A magical place with the most delicious pizza. I must say i’ve been trying out different pizza places in the uk and this is by far the best i’ve tried. I am not going to gatekeep this gem in Cambridge's Crown! Wow! The Lasagne was THE best of my life. Freshly made, it just melted in my mouth, and into my heart! You have to try it, because never have I been so touched by food, that it made me a little emotional. Even the green salad, had a little magic to it! Anyway, don't take my word, go try Giovanni's. You won't regret it!

Lived in Rome for a couple of years so have had my fair share of authentic Italian pizza but this was one of the best I've ever had. Fantastic pizza, very friendly and efficient service and a great vibe with unique decor. Spoke to the chef and owner who were really nice, friendly people. Will definitely be returning.
