Visited last nightt for my birthday, it was like stepping into italy! Beautiful food, authentic atmosphere and great staff

What a gem .. service was prompt, the food was delish🇮🇹🍷🍝. If you wanting to sample or recapture the ambiance of Italy - La Lanterna is a must!

I am starting to feel I have been spoilt. Good food but that was about it. I have been to many other Italian restaurants and had the added treatment of the waiter pouring the drinks out into the glasses and putting the cheese onto the dish, and at the end of the meal when the bill came was given a chocolate, sweet or a Limacello at no extra charge to the bill. Yes the food was nice but nothing out of the ordinary to he honest.

We booked La Lanterna a considerable time ago as it was my birthday and we were staying in Shrewsbury. We never come to Shrewsbury without visiting this fabulous restaurant, it’s quite small and quirky and you seem spot different each time you visit. We’ve been many times but we’ve never seen it as busy as it was last Friday. When we walked through the door there was another couple queuing in front of us and we questioned ourselves as to whether we had actually booked!!! They just couldn’t turn the tables around fast enough but my goodness was it worth the few minutes wait while they cleared our table. The food was as usual absolutely superb and excellent service. The staff at La Lanterna work so hard to make sure everything is spot on. Can’t wait for our next visit.

This is a wonderful little gem of a restaurant that serves great Italian food in a very unpretentious manner. The interior is quirky with classic style pictures and memorabilia. My wife and I enjoyed a fantastic lunch the portions sizes were excellent and the staff were cheerful and attentive but not overtly so. I would recommended that you book as the place is always full of happy dinners which surely, is the best recommendation you can get.

A hidden gem. The restaurant is small and quirky but this adds to the excellent atmosphere. The food was superb. I had a seafood carbonara and my wife had fillet steak. Both were delicious and the portions generous. The welcome was warm and accommodating. I would highly recommend this restaurant for those seeking authentic Italian cuisine in a cosy setting.

Table squashed in a very small space, waiter was off-hand bordering on rude. Main course food was great but garlic bread expensive for what was provided. Desserts small, swimming in a pool of runny cream and mediocre, not worth the money.

I’m in Shrewsbury for business, and I had this restaurant recommended to me. It’s a bit hard to find, but make the effort, as it’s worth it. I was first through the door, and the staff were lovely. I was given plenty of time to select my order, it’s nice to not be rushed. The bruschetta al pomodoro was amazing, and the Pollo Cacciatora was delicious. I was too full for dessert, sadly, but I enjoyed an espresso. It’s very small, but it’s full of atmosphere. As I said, the staff were very friendly, and even though I was on my own, I felt very relaxed in there. Take the time to search it out, one of the best Italian meals I’ve had in the UK.

Went here for valentines. Was a set menu option only including Prosecco in the price of £80. My boyfriend and I did not receive this due to being underage but we were not compensated either. Instead they made us buy the one lemonade we had to request as they conveniently forgot to take our drinks order. The wait time on all the food and drinks was unacceptable as we were on a time limit being the teenagers that we are. The rib starter had only 3 on the plate and no meat to the bone with only a tiny drizzle of sauce. Nothing special. My boyfriend ordered the steak which was over cooked when he asked for it medium rare and it looked like something a dog would regurgitate. Not impressed. The main waiter kept sighing as if the job he was doing was a chore and was clearly not creating a friendly environment where I would want to go for a romantic date. Will not be returning to this restaurant. For £80 we were expecting the best meal ever but instead it was a waste of money on a meal which was quite frankly disappointing.

What a beautiful place! Staff were lovely, couldn't do enough for you, food was out of this world. We had two different steak dishes and they were gorgeous. Prices good and not over expensive. The little vestry itself was small but full of character, I felt like I was on my holidays! Will definitely be returning here when I plan to visit Shrewsbury again.

What a great find! We were on a little mother and son break to Shrewsbury and my son had booked this gem of a ristorante without knowing anything about it! The food, service and atmosphere were perfect! We will be back!

We booked for a Saturday at 6pm and personally I fully expected it to be relatively quiet, it was completely full! This speaks to the quality of food and the whole experience! Inside it is a really quirky little place, which really does feel like you've arrived in a family restaurant in Italy. Such a cosy ristoranté , four of us met up for lunch, we had the special offer. The offer consisted of a pasta dish of the day , bruschetta bread , salad with either a 125ml glass of wine , red , white, rosé or a soft drink. Today this cost us £8:50 per person which is incredible value. There is a full menu with many other dishes available. Fantastic.

Undoubtedly the BEST ITALIAN RESTAURANT IN THE AREA. Have tried other Italian restaurants and none compare in taste and environment. This has become our preferred dinner spot, offering exceptional food with meticulous attention to detail. Each visit is a delightful surprise for the palate. Grateful to Alfredo and staff for consistently creating unforgettable experiences.

After trying to get a table a few times before Christmas, when it was always fully booked, we finally ate her last week. We'll definitely try to come back ! For starters we shared olives and a caprese salad, beautifully presented. For mains my wife and I had pasta - penne arriabata and spaghetti putanesca, both filling and tasty. The mother in law had the salmon with almonds and bacon in a creamy sauce. I can tell both of them have enjoyed their food when I dont get any offered to me and I didnt get a crumb ! Excellent food, a quirky little restaurant quite off the beaten track.

My partner has celiac disease so finding a good Italian place has been hell, but La lanterna is a good send. La Lanterna offers all pasta mains bar the lasagne and the cannelloni as gluten free, including their monthly specials. They also have a gluten free bruschetta. The staff are amazing and so accommodating. And the food is to die for.

The lunch special remains mandatory. In and out in 38 minutes after bruschetta, pasta bolognese, a little salad, tiramisu and 2 glasses of wine, can't argue with that

We booked for 16 of us for our Tuesday morning tennis group. The food was delicious, we pre-ordered which made it efficient and the service was fine. One of our party was ill but we were not charged. There was a delay to our getting in as the place is so popular the staff were still laying up the tables. Thoroughly recommend for good Italian food at competitive prices.

Wow. Best Italian in Shrewsbury by a mile. I went Monday with the girlfriend. And was that good I’m taking my daughter Fri night and my staff from work sat night. Just amazing. Food is amazing, atmosphere is just like being in Italy, staff are friendly and very reasonable. Almost a bit too cheap that I wasn’t expecting any where near the quality I got. Defo my new favourite restaurant and can’t recommend enough

A little authentic Italian restaurant that produces some of the best Italian food I’ve ever tasted. Food was fresh, tasty and plentiful. Staff were so friendly and efficient and the setting was outstanding. Only a small place (20-25 covers I’d guess) but the ambience is fantastic. we booked a table for 6pm. we were around 2 minutes late. waited for 10 minutes and no one brought us a menu or welcomed us. we left. I get places are busy and I never mind waiting for food or drinks however I think not greeting and providing a menu for customers is really poor. shame cause the food looked great.

We found this restaurant hidden along an alleyway and decided to have lunch there. We were very lucky as they were almost closed but happily, they found us a table. I didn't hesitate to have the set lunch with a glass of red. My husband who is a little more difficult, chose from the regular menu. Neither of us were disappointed with the food but hubby said he will have the set menu next time we come, as mine looked lovely. The atmosphere was excellent, it was very busy and the music added to the ambience, not overpowering like in some restaurants. There was a private little nook in the corner which seemed to sit 6/8 people.

Two of us went for a meal on a Tuesday evening. This is a unique place being situated in an old church vestry in the centre of old Shrewsbury. Authentic Italian - Small with a nice atmosphere. The food and service were both excellent and not at all expensive. We will definitely go again.

I struggled to find the place using Google Maps. I was tired and should have zoomed in to see the street names. Walking up from the station area I didn't turn left at the top of he hill to follow the road. I continued on towards the shops. Church Street is off to the right not far from that turn. I still got there half an hour before my booked time. Both the starter I had (bruschetta al funghi) and the main (maialino al porcini) looked very much like the images I had seen online. Their home-made tiramisu was presented in a glass, a presentation which I had not seen before, but it hit the mark like any tiramisu should. The decorations screamed "Italy" and the walls were full of posters emblematic of Italy 🇮🇹. There were some statues and busts in the entrance area. I particularly liked the pot model immediately opposite my seat. I hoped the models involved weren't passing comment on the food. lol. I liked the food and ate the starter after the main, though they had been brought out together. The vegetables had been cooked a bit more than usual, just as I had requested. It seemed very important to book in advance to secure your table.

Used to visit here years ago and delighted to see it is still thriving. Lovely food, great value, nice authentic ambience. They know what they are doing here and I hope they never change as it’s a hidden corner of Italy in an old church in Shrewsbury. Magic

My wife and I discovered La Lanterna by accident. It's a bit hidden away but it's well worth finding. It's small, intimate, quirky and fun. We were lucky to get a table as walk-ins. You should really book ahead since it has about 8 tables total, seating 32 max. We had the regular carbonara and the monthly special pasta (spaghetti with sirloin strips) along with the insalata mista. It was all excellent. We shared a bottle of the Moltepulciano which was good and very inexpensive at 22 pounds. This was one of our least expensive dinners during this trip. Excellent value for money and a fun place to eat.

Took us a while to find, as it was our first time to visit Shrewsbury. Arrived at slightly after 2pm which turned out to be great as it must have been really full at rush hours. We had the lunch special at great value and the linguine with prawns. One of best bruschetta we have ever had (and we have travelled extensively in Italy). Portion is generous too.
