Bella Napoli in Shropshire

This was a great find. Having booked this restaurant in Shrewsbury from my home in Oxford, we found the staff friendly and the food brilliant and all at a very reasonable price.

We really enjoyed our lunches.... risotto, lasagne, pizza and two beers for under £40. Very tasty so will definitely be back.

The staff are so friendly and after walking out of Beafy Boys and then walking out of dough and oil me and my family walked in and they adjusted to get us all in on the same table. It was perfect from the start. The food was amazing and being from the sea side i thought the calamari was so fresh and the rest of my family did as well. It was my birthday when we went and we asked if they would be able to look after the cake and it was placed in a nice cake cabinet, at beefy boys and dough and oil it was dumped on the side. After enjoying our food we asked for the cake and when they bring our cake over they had a sparkler in the cake and they bring a cake knife and it really made my birthday extra special. Thank you Bella Napoli and thank you for consistently delivering amazing food and great service

The food was not good and when my wife complained the manager basically started a fight with us and I had to get my wife behind me as he had lost his temper so badly he had gone white. I've never seen anything like it.

Walked into a friendly welcome and staff, with the look and feel of a family restaurant, unfortunately it failed to deliver across the board from there on in. Wine, starter and main. Avoid the house white wine, it tasted like it was from a bottle that normally sits between the salt and pepper. Concern started after we had ordered. I spotted the tomato soup coming out of the chest freezer, wouldn’t have minded but it was thin, flat in flavour other than way too much garlic, which is not what you expect of tomato soup. Antipasto, at £9 I was expecting more than seven small slices of underwhelming meats, you get more and better quality on a subway sandwich. Feedback on soup to waitress failed to result in a coherent responce. Main very small chicken pasta, four grape sized pieces of chicken. Garlic again, but void of much else in flavour. Other main, pasta and meatballs, five meatballs the size of cherry tomatoes, with little texture or flavour. Spaghetti, over cooked and tomato sauce missing the tomatoes, thin, watery and the small amount there was void of flavour. Paid way too much for quantity and quality. Italian food is better than this.

Had a lovely evening meal here with the family. Food was great and service very good. Highly recommend.

Unfortunately, I looked at the stars rating on Google and went with that. I thought the service was terrible. No one came up and asked if he wanted any top up on the drinks and how the food was. The food was pretty bland and I’m sure the lasagna had been microwave. Says on the menu that they will do kids portions of any dish, but when I got the bill they tried charging for adult size portions and when I questioned it they knocked a pound off. Wouldn’t recommend

Our favourite restaurant to visit whenever we happen to be passing close to Shrewsbury. The staff are wonderful and accommodating and so far we've been lucky and always able to get a seat just walking in. The food is second to none and what keeps bringing us back year after year

Great Italian restaurant with super friendly staff and very delicious Italian food.

Good pizzas, drinks overpriced, and served directly in the glass, they don't open the can in front of you, 3.50 £ for a single glass of 200 ml of sparkling water poured in the kitchen, probably from a Lidl 2l sparkling bottle, Same for the coca cola. We tell the waitress, and it seems to be normal in this place. Won't come back.

Had a lovely meal here for my mother's birthday. Initially when I looked at the menu I didn't have high hopes as appeared quite limited. However pleasantly surprised as all food cooked beautifully. As vegetarians, my husband and I had the gorgonzola and nut pasta which was particularly well seasoned, pasta not overcooked and the pizza florentine. My parents chicken dishes looked (and smelled) great too! The waiter was attentive without being intrusive and friendly, he even put a candle in mum's pudding and sang happy birthday which was very thoughtful. I also appreciated how they accommodated her wheelchair. Prices very reasonable, especially in today's climate. If you're looking for a tasty meal with good portions at a good price, look no further!

An absolutely superb town centre Italian. The food was was as wonderful as the attentive service from the awesome staff. I can't recommend this place enough, and if you want some quality Italian food, in the heart of Shrewsbury, you need to make this establishment your one stop shop.

We Went for a meal during our weekend away in a lovely cottage in the countryside we found the staff to be warm and welcoming the service was excellent and the food was excellent we would highly recommend that if they were in Shrewsbury to use this restaurant if we were ever here again then a return visit would be on the agenda thankyou to the staff for making us feel welcome Rich and Nikki

Lovely little restaurant. It was a busy Saturday and couldn’t get into any of our usuals but spotted this place opposite Marks & Spencer’s. We all had some authentic pizzas. Reasonably priced. Over 3 floors with toilets right at the top that really could do with a dust. However staff were great and attentive.

Had simple mixed olive antipasti and Frutti di Mare pizza. Pizza was excellent, wine was delicious, staff were attentive and friendly.

First the positives. The service was good. My partner had a bruschetta starter which was very good. I had calamari, with was at best average. Now to the mains. We both had lasagne. This was served in an oval dish with no accompaniment. Lots of pasta layers, very little sauce that had virtually zero flavour and a small amount of beef. The top has a thick layer of cheese, and not oozing with creamy bechamel. Best described as disappointing. My partner was polite when asked how the meal was by the waitress, but gave the opinion as described in this review. It was met with a smile, and an okay. There are a lot of great eateries in Shrewsbury, and they will need to improve drastically for us to entertain another visit

We first went here 5 years ago and were blown away with the service, ambience and the food! We've been visiting ever since with our first daughter and now our second. We've found ever so slightly that the service, food and ambience has gone down hill. No candles lit on tables, no small talk from owners, served by either husband or wife when the latter speaks very little English so can be difficult. The prices have not changed much but you do get relatively small portions. £10.95 for spaghetti bolognese is very reasonable but you'll need a pizza to buff it up a bit.

We popped in here for a lovely lunch whilst having a day out in Shrewsbury. Really nice place and good food. Unfortunately our little boy became unwell but the staff were so lovely and understanding - it was very much appreciated, thank you for your kindness! We'll definitely visit again the next time that we're in Shrewsbury.

We should have listened to locals advice. The food was poor and so was the service. A couple of small bits of chicken in a watery sauce. Hardly any seafood in partners risotto. Don't waste your money. Worst meal we've had in Shrewsbury since we moved here two years ago.

This is the best Italian food I have ever eaten. You can watch them making all the food from scratch - and you can tell in the taste. Considering the high level of the food, in my opinion the prices are really competitive. Family run, which I love. So after having had a lunch here as a walk-in customer, we now eat here all the time. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. This is how all restaurants should be.

Nice local Italian. The pizza bases are really amazing. Real Italian pizzas and not the stuff you order over the phone. My wife had the chicken main and said it was delicious.

Woeful customer service and manager is nothing but rude. Some of the food we ordered was shocking and incredibly overpriced. The only Italian thing in this place was the name. Do yourselves a favour and go somewhere else it's not worth your hard earned money.

Absolutely ridiculously outrageously poor service. I was here a month ago, with my wife and we were appalled at the standard of food that came out of the kitchen. I was a chef for 14 years and I could make something 100 times better with my eyes closed. There was more water in the food than in the sink. The manager rude and disrespectful to our table. We expected some sort of gratitude to being served water on a plate.

Firstly, I’d like to say that I’m not one to leave negative reviews, however I was so l was disappointed this evening that I feel I need to let others know of our experience. My husband, Dad and I went for a post Christmas meal after a really good meal at Bella Napoli a few Christmas’ ago. The starter was okay, my husband had prawns which he said were nice. My Dad and I had the mushrooms which were okay, but could have been cooked a little bit more. The main course was a massive disappointment. My dad had penne arrabiata which was watery, I had penne salmon which was literally pasta, a bland cream sauce and the tiniest bit of salmon. My husband had the calzone which initially was nice, although flat, until he reached the raw egg in the middle. The waitress was nice enough however, she was clearing plates whilst we were still eating, then sat with someone who I assume was the cook having a chat, ignoring her guests. My dad and I decided to not have a desert, given the disappointment up to that point. My husband had a lemon cheesecake which was okay, however I had ordered another glass of wine which never arrived. Overall, I could cook a better meal at home. So to go out for a nice dinner and leave £100 down and still hungry (we’re currently cooking chips!) is very upsetting. I absolutely support local businesses, however please don’t waste your money here.

I ordered Penne Salmone which I was really looking forward to. When it came it was covered in a thick layer of cheese which I thought was a bit unusual and then when I cut into it I found it was lasagne! I looked for the waiter, who I think is also the owner, and he was sitting in deep conversation with a friend at the table by the kitchen taking absolutely no notice of the few customers in the restaurant. I thought about going to see him but decided against it as if I had to wait for a new meal my husband would have finished by then. The lasagne was ok but the layer of cheese on top was so thick it went very tough as it cooled down. We had finished eating by the time the waiter finished talking to the friend and ventured back down the restaurant. He didn't even ask if we had enjoyed our meal - just asked if we wanted the dessert menu. I advised that my meal wasn't what I ordered and he implied I was to blame even though I had pointed at what I wanted on the menu. He said 'salmon' sounded like 'lasagne' and it was the 'language difference'. What annoyed me the most was he didn't even apologise and even had the cheek to say to order the Penne Salmon the next time we came. We asked for the bill and paid rather than have desserts. He went back to his friend and it appeared that they were laughing about it. When we were putting our coats on he came and stood by our table and still no apology - I don't know if he was expecting a tip but he certainly did not get one!!!!!

Cheesy garlic bread was on super fresh dough, definitely home made, bruschetta was really fresh and we suspected the bread was home made too. Lasange so fresh and light, beautiful layers of pasta, the tomato sauce was perfect. Clean plate club. The Penne Gorgonzola E Noci was Creamy, nutty aftertaste, very light and still fillings with a deep flavour with the tang of gorgon zola, pasta cooked perfect Al dents For Wine, we chose a bottle of the Chianti. Which was soft, fruity and beautifully complimented the savoury meals especially the lasagne. For dessert I had a single scoop of the Gelato, Salted caramel, which was decedant and rich with enough salt to balance it perfectly. My husband's Cheesake was light but rich with crisp base that had delicious nutty aftertaste and the lemon wasn't overpowering at all. Staff were kind and attentive, we were never left between courses or waiting for attention. They even realised it was his birthday, due to a loud video call where his mother bleted happy birthday at the top of her lungs, and put a sparkler in his dessert! A must visit for authentic Italian food in Shrewsbury!

While some eateries in Shrewsbury have gone down in quality and even closed, Bella Napoli retains its unique charm and atmosphere, with superb food at reasonable prices. Their pasta is a revelation compared to store bought, and the various flavourings are exquisite. There's always a lovely vibe there with friendly and accommodating staff. For me, the icing on the cake is the music -gentle piano jazz at just the right level - you can listen actively to it if you wish, or hold a conversation with your partner without having to yell yourself hoarse, as happens in too many restaurants (and even shops!). It makes for the perfect dining experience - relaxed, luxurious ad delicious. Molto bellissima! :-)

Was somewhat draughty by the open front but it was our own fault we arrived without booking on a Saturday night so no choice of seats and the temp dipped after a week of sun and heat. Wear a jacket to keep warm if you're arriving in the evening. The food looked fab on our and fellow diners plates. The portions were about what they would be in Italy where it's common to order more than one course and side dishes and have bread provided. (Small for hungry horse pub goers but enough with no wastage) the cream and wine sauce I had with my Salmon showed no sign of wine, so I added a little of the house white at the table. Delicious. Best olives ever. So enjoy this moderately priced treat, expect drinks to be expensive to balance out that saving and literally keep the lights on in austerity Britain. If you can still afford to eat out you may as well be kind to the staff who do a great job. Warm welcome, nice enough food, good pinot grigio. Best to book but they're nice about it if you didn't and will accommodate if they can.

My wife and I recently had a pizza here which was really good quality, so we thought that we might give it another go. Very disappointing I must say, meagre portions at a price befitting a 2 course meal. The pasta was clearly out of a bag, and the sauce was substandard with presentation being of the overarm style. The service was also quite poor with the manager being rather confrontary and bordering belligerent when we complained. If you do go, have the pizza. The other dishes are at your peril.

Sorry but very disappointed always wanted to eat here but lasagne was awful no minced beef/tomatoe/onion/mushroom ,no creamy cheesywhite sauce just a small dish of melted cheese(lots of it) with a very small amount of pasta and NO parmasen cheese any where to be seen?no side accompliment e.g a bit of green/salad?? The only italian thing of this place is the name, what a joke. I get so upset when I enter into an Italian restaurant (or allegedly Italian) to the find out an individual just pretends to deliver Italian cousine. I'd suggest you'd hire an Italian chef who could advise you how to cook Italian, what a shame!

We ate fish, meat and Pasta and everything was delicious. The portions are not that big, so I recommend to eat zwo dishes… really good food!
