ASK Italian - Shrewsbury in Shropshire

We visited Shrewsbury whilst on holiday at Tenbury Wells and came across this branch of ASK. We were quickly greeted and seated and our server, Liam, was friendly and very helpful. We like the ASK brand and know what to expect when we eat at one of the restaurants. That said, we are always limited for choice due to an allergy to Chilli. We accept that and always go for a safe option. We both had the sea bass and vegetables, a favourite of ours, and it was very good. I was surprised to read the negative reviews as everything was great as far as we were concerned. I always give an honest review, whether it be praiseworthy as in this case, or scathing when it is deserved. We would be quite happy to eat here again.

Stephen was very friendly and so helpful sorting out our voucher.

We had a booking Friday evening, and everything was great from start to finish. Our waitress las was very helpful and attentive. We will be back again.

We were the first customers at lunch time, but it was clean and tidy the tables well laid. By the time we left it was busy and people chatting creating a good atmosphere.

We visited the Shrewsbury Ask Italian for a late afternoon family meal. Immediately we were greeted politely and seated. Complimentary raspberry lemonade tasters providers, to our satisfaction. Each of our meals were delicious. At each stage we were checked upon by the complimentary and kind Ramona, that our needs were met. No concerns to raise at all. A very pleasant visit indeed.

Food was absolutely lovely and came very quickly. Ramona was very accommodating and friendly!

I went looking forward and I was disappointed. I am a Coeliac, I was made to feel as if my allergy was a problem. The staff members were rude, short off and no good service. The waiter said they had no gluten free cider, turns out they did after I had to ask to go check and was told I am not allowed to read the ingredients , the lady manager was absolutely abrupt. My friend ordered dough balls, he asked where the meat was as there was none, he didn’t bother coming back to us, we had to ask again, only to be told it’s small bits in the dough balls! Absolutely disgraceful!

Stopped for a late lunch with my wife and 18 month old son. Good service from meet and greet to leaving. Provided dairy free menu to select a child's meal for my son. Good food with fast service. Was quiet due to the time we ate before the evening rush. Would recommended for lunch or dinner. Central to Shrewsbury and overall nice setting.

Food is nice/good..not excellent. Pizza was a bit of a let down expecially for £16, with very minimal topping and unrisen base. Also when arriving we were put on a dimly lit table under the stairs and I asked to move to the table to my right which had a light above the table, I was told this was reserved for 6 and the server would turn on the light above our table, however there was no light for the server to turn on and the party of 6 actually was a 3 on the next table with the light. It's expensive for what you receive in all honesty.

I went into this restaurant with high hopes and left thoroughly disappointed. The service was slow and worse yet my order was wrong. They brought out a pizza with toppings which I hadn’t ordered and when I mentioned this to them they told me it was my fault for the misunderstanding (even though I was perfectly clear while ordering) and that they would not refund or replace my pizza. Furthermore, my friend that I was eating with found a hair in the pizza mid-bite which she obviously had to discreetly spit out into her napkin. This caused for her to receive dirty looks from the staff. We left swiftly after this. If you’re in Shrewsbury and are wanting pizza, please learn from my mistakes and just go to Domino’s or Fireaway Pizza, you’ll have better food and will save a fortune!

Really lovely place and food. When we first went in the waitress that was serving us was not very good, you could tell they didn't want to be there, had no idea about anything on the menu (I'm pregnant and asked about the tiramisu, wondering was it very strong with drink and the waitress advised there was no alcohol in the actual tiramisu, only in the sauce on the side - I didn't order as knew this was definitely wrong, someone that was with me got it and as you would expect it was all full of alcohol), also kept forgetting things we asked for and serving was ridiculous - the waitress stood at the end of the table and handed all our food to us across other people and didn't advise of a roasting hot plate!!! The waitress did the same on clearing up, expected us to hand everything and practically do her job for her!! I would not have paid the tip at the end, only we decided we would as another waitress took over and she was the polar opposite - amazing, friendly, service was great and nothing was too much!! We will be back as the food was lovely, but only for the second waitress, we wouldn't even consider it!!

The staff were entirely supportive to my family’s requirements. The food was good and hearty and our drinks, for a restaurant, were a reasonable price. A really good afternoon. The manager and Ramona (as well as other staff) looked after us superbly.

Brilliant starters, good deserts, very average mains: Mushrooms calzone- nice dough , blant filling. Breaded chicken - no crisp to it, not enough spices. Pasta- good softness, average sauce. One speedy, proffecional member of staff took over St the end but our first assistant was veery slow, didn't bring new forks and knives after statrers, no salt and pepper during meal.

There was no boiled egg and no anchovies. I thought the cost at £15.50 for the salad was excessive for, essentially, some fresh Cos lettuce, sliced chicken pieces and mildly anchovy flavoured croutons. I ordered the sauce on the side. The Margharita pizza was made with very thin dough which seemed quite flat rather than airy and light. The dough was rolled in semolina but it seemed that the whole crust was very yellow, grainy and had an unusual taste. This cost £11.75. Lucas reduced the cost of the meal by not charging for the salad but we don't feel inclined to visit again in a hurry.

Very nice restaurant with quality food and good waiter service. Food and drinks came quickly. Very nice service from Tamera who looked after us very well.

Brilliant service and food. Ask in Shrewsbury is always our first choice for a meal out as it’s always first class.. Would highly recommend. Liam and Romona are extremely professional and have an excellent knowledge of the business.

A delightful and tasty meal by this lovely restaurant. Very welcoming staff upon arrival and attentive throughout. A great menu to choose pastas, pizzas and more… The menu is slightly pricey but in line with other restaurant prices. Had a calamari starter (large) sharer and it served my two children who devoured all! Incredibly fresh and delicious. The seafood pasta filled with clams, prawns, mussels and squid, absolutely fantastic. The pizza served amazing and delicious. A great cup of coffee served. Well worth the monies spent. 10/10 service. 10/10 food. 10/10 restaurant was incredibly clean and well presented. Lovely atmosphere. Wheel chair friendly. A great family dinner out.

Food uncooked when reporting to waitress she's just shrugged her shoulders!! And took it back to the kitchen no communication whatsoever! Other diners were served food well before us, didn't mind that as we weren't in a hurry but uncooked RAW food a definate disaster! I asked when given the bill did you knock the starter off the bill she snapped back, Yes!! Rude!! Not going back, never had a problem at Worcester.

Fantastic selection of Italian dishes, cooked to perfection. Daughter’s got braces so they even cooked the folded mozzarella garlic bread doughie as we requested. Loved the antipasti Classico, and the fiery Calabria was to die for. Thank you “Ask Italian” for a lovely end to a lovely evening

Enjoyed a fantastic lunch here with my partner. We shared a pizza and a chicken and mushroom pasta dish, both of which were tasty and arrived quickly. Finished with desserts, with a shout out to the chocolate brownie lasagne which was amazing!! Staff very pleasant and attentive (Liam and Gabi). Thank you, we will definitely be back.

Portions are very small for the price, and the Gnocchi was a bit hard. Staff were coming over every 5 minutes, which was overkill, although they were very quick with service. It was very quiet, only one other table being used

Had lunch here today and it was delicious. We were served promptly and the staff were polite and helpful. I had the Pollo E Roquito pizza and for dessert, the warm chocolate brownie, both were delicious. Will definitely be revisiting.

Had the supposedly beef lasagne. Hardly any beef at all. Just layers of pasta. Sauce wasn't very good either. First ever visit. Won't be returning.

Sunday afternoon took the family for lunch - not again! Literally don’t ask! Pizza like cardboard no taste hard to bite and burnt on ends Little ones could barely bite through the crackly hard pizza Unfortunately we won’t return again

Went for a meal Saturday night and the food and drinks arrived super quick but was slightly disappointed with the service, had to wait 15 mins for our table even though we were 5 minutes late, had to hand half of our own cutlery out, the food all came out at different times and had to go and ask for one of our puddings as they didn’t arrive after all the others had come out. Some of us also paid in cash and they gave us one note and told us we would have to argue over who got the note. One server was so lovely, another was very miserable. Nice food, and reasonably priced! However was let down on Saturday night.

Myself & my husband went for a birthday lunch after some Xmas shopping. I had the chicken cacciatore which was very nice & filling. My husband had the beef brisket pappardelle which was nice but unfortunately not so filling as it barely filled the dish. I would of questioned it but my husband has no stomach & can’t eat large portions anyway but anyone els would be disappointed, especially at £16.75. It is all quite pricey now. Luckily I had some vouchers to help it a bit.

Excellent service and quality of food.

We’re a family of 5 and we went to ASK on a Thursday lunch time and had starters, mains and desserts. POSITIVES: - Everyone enjoyed all their food, it was delicious! - The table service was friendly. - Location in Shrewsbury is good, and the restaurant itself looks quite good, although a little tired in some areas. - We liked the open kitchen. - Online ordering service gives you a running total of your bill and options on how to pay. NOT SO GOOD: - All of the plates and much of the cutlery wasn’t properly clean. It looked like it probably had been through a dishwasher, but not checked when put back into use. Plates spotted and with many fingerprints around the edges. Some cutlery had food caked on fork tines and spoons. - We were told that we could ‘mix and match’ ordering with waiting staff and via a QR code on the table (i.e. online with a mobile device). We ordered drinks with a member of staff, then put our food on the order online. We pressed ‘send to kitchen’ then a few mins later realised we’d forgotten to add a side dish. We added it online, but then didn’t know whether we should just click the ‘send to kitchen’ button again (in case it would double our original order), so we asked a member of staff. At this point we all realised that our original order hadn’t gone to the kitchen. It just didn’t work, so the member of staff added it all to their device again. Technology sometimes goes wrong, so no real complaints about this, other than that it should be clear what confirmation to expect, and that there should be verifiable confirmation that an order has in fact been received by the kitchen. This issue meant that there was probably an additional 20+ mins delay to us getting our food, which meant everyone started getting a bit restless! - The men’s toilets upstairs had wallpaper ripped off the wall and had been left in an undecorated state. This made things feel a little uncared for. VALUE FOR MONEY? The kids meal was good value at £7.50 for 3 small courses. At approx £15 for a main meal and ~£30 per head, we didn’t feel that the experience lived up to what we would expect, so we’re unlikely to return unless there’s an offer. However, we would look forward to the food if we went again.

Turned up after a long drive, a good hour before advertised closing time (online and on the wall of the actual restaurant) to be told sorry we've decided to close early. We were informed we could still order food and drinks but had 22 minutes to finish. Shutting earlier than widely advertised closong times for no good reason is unforgivable.

It's a lovely, easy place to eat. The staff were attentive. The food was just right.

Just ordered food via just eat. Food was rotten. Imagine paying nearly £18 for a pizza that looks like that 🤣 the dough bites came without the dip and most of them were plain... they were supposed to have cheese and nduja. I would have sent this back if i was in the restaurant.

I just love Ask Italian. The food is simple but so tasty at reasonable prices.

The food was good, but service was rather all over the place. The restaurant was busy as it was a Saturday night but many of the waiters seemed new and were relying on one waiter for advice. The waitress we had had to ask her colleague questions about the food and seemed generally unsure about what we ordered which was unideal but fine. We weren’t able to use Tesco vouchers despite the fact they were for this chain restaurant and only bought them the same day as our visit and were told they can’t be used over the festive period however the waitress told us this had taken effect today which we weren’t told when booking at any stage and and had travelled a distance and frankly wouldn’t have come if we had known. the manager told us something completely different that this has been in a effect a while and that the waitress knew that which she didn’t which frankly showed they were disorganised. We even had to wait just for a takeaway box for a pizza which just added to the disappointment. I don’t think we will be back despite the tasty food due to the service we received. The manager was quite rude and while apologetic it felt like she was talking down to us.

we pre booked and preordered a table at 16:00 for 11, turned up and had to wait 20 mins to be seated, followed by another 30 mins for a waiter to come and get our drinks order, when the starters came out at 17:15 they was adequate. the mains came out 45 mins after and half of our mains had pasta that was cold on the outside and scorching in the centre as if it been in the microwave for a few minutes. the one member of staff was rude, shouting and just snapping across at us as we was sat in silent listening to the orders being read out. come to pay the bill of £800 and a service charge of over £100 which for the service was non optional and unacceptable

Would not recommend if you are in a party with more than 2 people. Service is disgraceful, staff were rude and un organised. Food took ages to be prepared and cleared. Deserts came out 1 hour after all meals has been finished. Meals were cold. No staff checked up on the table to ask how our meal was and can't even handle a simple task of cleaning the plates away and having a smile on their face.. For the price to eat here. You'd expect some service to be delivered. Save your money and your time. DONT EAT HERE xoxo will not return

We visited Ask Shrewsbury after a difficult day, which included the funeral of a close friend. We wanted to unwind and to have something good to eat. We both had pasta and it was delicious, and the service was great. When we travelled home to Plymouth I realised that I had left my glasses at the restaurant. I contacted Liam and he found them for me, then posted them back to our home in Cornwall. I really appreciate this very kind act and the considerate manner of the staff. Thank you to Liam and the team. Great restaurant and great attitude, made a difficult time much easier.

This restaurant is one of my favourites of them all from the Shropshire area. Delicious food. Friendly waiters. Good placement of the restaurant. Very fast service, you are ordering now and they are already at your table 5-7 minutes after. Please try their new carbonara - deliciousness at its best! Yummy yummy! Thank you!

Had a lovely 50TH birthday meal lunch yesterday(20th November). Staff were very welcoming and friendly,the food was excellent and the atmosphere again was excellent.

We decided to go here for Sunday dinner as most other restaurants were shut. We were not disappointed with the food- daughter had beef pasta, grandad had a pizza and I had prawn pasta- all was very good. Where this does fall down is the drinks. We had a ginger drink and a strawberry drink were so watered down they were like weak squash! Service was fairly good. I would visit here again.
