La Gondola in Scarborough

Wonderful food and excellent service! We booked a table of 8 late in the day but they managed to squeeze us in. Two of us had the Fillet steaks and they were cooked to perfection (one rare and one well done), kids had pasta ( Lasagne, Carbonara and Penne Salmone) all freshly/home made. Others in our group had a Calzone and a veggie pasta. Everyone really enjoyed their meal, finished off nicely with some delicious Profiteroles that we took home. Great atmosphere and the owners (Chef and front of house) and the waitresses were lovely and very friendly. Highly recommended.

This is our second visit since being under new management. La Gondala has gone above and beyond in their service and food. The food was outstanding and the service was exceptional. Highly recommend, a real gem of Filey, 100% will be returning.

Everything was quite tasteless really and the chicken kebab was cold - asked if the chicken was supposed to be hot and it was. As it was cooked and you can eat cold chicken,I didn’t bother sending it back as I couldn’t see it being much better really. I think as there is little competition in Filey, they can get away with it.

This was our first visit to Filey so when I booked I didn’t know what to expect. La Gondala is not situated in what I would call the main part of town but up at the top tucked away. The decor was slightly old fashioned but the staff and the good food made up for that. I ordered Penne in tomato sauce with aubergines and mozzarella and my husband order the Kiev calazone pizza. They were both exceptional and my husband said it was one of the best pizza he had eaten. We ordered a Chilean red wine which went down a treat. We will be sure to make a return visit next time we are in Filey. Thank you to everyone who worked there for making it an enjoyable evening

My husband and I have been buying take away meals and also visiting this fantastic Italian for a few years now . It has never entered my head to write a review because we know how much we love this place, the food, the service the extra care . The laughs we have and joy mean we can’t wait to book again. It’s like going on holiday at home. Salvo is a gem , his staff are so naturally good at their jobs - thank you all so much. Did I say how great the food, wine and deserts are just ate the best cheesecake ever and I should know 😂

We enjoyed a lovely birthday meal here whilst on holiday in Filey. We went early as we have a young child but were pleased with the happy hour offering between 5 &6pm. Delicious garlic mushrooms to start and the calzones didn’t disappoint either. It was a quick and friendly service and we look forward to returning!

Booked a table for a family meal to celebrate my wife's 70th birthday. Food was very well prepared and arrived promptly. There was a great selection of pasta and pizza on offer, Calzone Kiev was superb as were the other meals selected. Will return when next in Filey.

Popped in with my wife and our three kids this evening for a quick pizza. Place not busy, and the very helpful girl behind the bar assured us we would get a table within 30 mins or less, and we offered to sit on a 4 with an extra chair. No biggie. Unfortunately the stony-faced ‘manager’ in charge did everything she could to make things difficult for us, seeming keen on doing the absolute minimum, with a face that would turn milk sour. So we left and crossed the road to Bella Italia, where we were treated like old friends, and had a lovely meal. The owners of La Gondola and San Marco should sit up and take notice. Hospitality involves being friendly, hospitable and accommodating, and doing exactly the opposite is not going to end well.

Our very tasty pasta dishes were good value on the Happy Hour deal. Wine was reasonably priced and all served by a pleasant waitress too.

Early dinner where we were able to benefit from happy hour pizza and pasta. Food was excellent and service was really friendly. The chef takes pride in producing quality food.

Excellent food, reasonably priced, had the best bruschetta I have ever had, pasta , pizza, and Italian specialities available. Can’t fault the staff, very friendly and attentive.

We were visitors to Filey and came at short notice so didn’t have anywhere booked. We fancied an Italian and spotted La Gondola which looked nice. I tried to call a couple of times throughout the day but got no response. It was really busy when we originally came to try for a table for 2, so we decided to head to the Star next door for a drink, and pop back later to try for a table. We left it to 19.00, and walked back and the restaurant was almost empty. In fact, there was 1 table who were getting their bill. We stood at the door, hoping to be greeted or at least acknowledged, but several staff members walked past us without even looking at us, all with faces like they really didn’t want to be there. We had to get the attention of someone, to which she abruptly replied “if you haven’t booked we haven’t got a table”. As mentioned, I don’t mind if you’re fully booked, but it would’ve taken 2-seconds for a staff member to acknowledge us on their way past us (they were walking to clean tables) - it’s how you treat people that’s important.

Very busy restaurant, but the staff were very efficient. Diane was very attentive to customer's needs and lovely and friendly. Food was gorgeous, venue clean and wasn't rushed in or out. Our 2nd time of visiting and becoming our favourite place to eat when we visit Filey 😊

Service was polite quick and attentive. We wandered in out of the fog (sea fret) with no booking and were shown straight to a table, which was laid on the spot. Food was nothing short of fabulous. Authentic Italian; the usual pizza & pasta, some interesting seafood options and a few specials. Bruschetta starter was crisp and light with a tasty tomato & onion topping, lightly dressed. Linguini al Filetta was tasty, perfectly well-done and demolished quickly. Calzone Kiev was equally well executed but took longer to despatch due to the size lol. Wine list was modestly sized but all decent quality at a fair price. Limited options for by-the-glass tho. Desserts possibly superfluous but enjoyed anyway. Fudge cake and strawberry ice cream would have benefited from real whipped cream rather than squirty. Coffee machine was on the blink but we just had another drink instead.

Hadn’t booked but they fitted us in which we was very great full for… the food was fabulous we couldn’t fault it at all. Would definitely recommend

Excellent value for money, no skimpy portions here. Staff are lovely. Food was flavoursome as was the wine! We hadn't booked but they squeezed us in, we would definitely book next time as it gets busy between 5 & 6pm for happy hour.

Was recommended by friends - we went for Early Bird on Tuesday had delicious pasta . Though it was extremely busy the waitress was exceptional as was the food and service. So much so that we went back today , Thursday equally as good. Believe we were lucky to get a booking our advice therefore s to book to avoid disappointment.

What more do you want from a restaurant than good food served by friendly staff? La Gondola provides both. I would highly recommend the chicken kebab though all of us really enjoyed our food. We will be back.

Last night my son in law and three friends callled in to this place after the England match and politely asked if they could be squeezed in. Each year this group of friends cycle from Barnsley to Filey, rent accommodation and spend a couple of days here before cycling home again. They are all in their late 40’s and are well dressed and well spoken. A youngish server immediately said that she thought she could juggle a few things and get them in. A much older woman interjected and with a welcoming completely dead pan expression said quite bluntly’No’ and sent them packing. The older woman had obviously decided they were louts or hooligans, they weren’t drunk or even close as they were cycling back home early Sunday morning. We live in Filey and generally it’s a really friendly place but this attitude of some businesses leaves me baffled, apparently they can afford to turn away business from respectable people by making rash assumptions. If they carry on like this I hope they struggle sufficiently to have to change their name again and end up with lots of empty tables. I’ll not spend my hard earned cash their and I’m here 365 days of the year

We came here tonight and the meal was really nice and the staff was very friendly. Will definitely come back next time we come back to Filey.

Jeannie's party: we were a party of eight all warmly welcomed and quickly seated; drinks came quickly. The ambience is informal. The food was authentic Italian chosen from the main menu and specials. My seafood dish, mussels, squid, clams etc was served in the most delicious garlicy, herby sauce, which I wanted to last forever! Excellent pate to start with, clearly chef made. They were happy to sort the bill out for couples and individuals to pay separately. All very happy and satisfied diners.

Lovely food, friendly waiting staff. My son made friends with the chef who made him a special pizza. Very reasonable tasty food. We will definitely be back.

We have just had a lovely few days at The Bay Filey. We all fancied an Italian meal and came across La Gondola. What a great choice. The food was amazing. My grandson was so impressed with his pizza he wanted to thank the chef. The chef was so busy he didn’t have time to come out, so my grandson wrote him a note. The waitress was lovely with him. We returned the following night as the food was so good. He did get to meet the chef this time which made his night. If you are looking for a great Italian restaurant with lovely waiting staff then please give La Gondola a try. We shall definitely return when next in the area. Thank you all at La Gondola.

I ordered the chicken kebab, it was lathered in oily yogurt sauce and the suspected chicken was dried up cubes. After I mentioned this to the waitress it was removed and I was offered another meal. I ordered the lasagna as the dish my friend had looked good. I was told it would be another 10 minutes - after what seemed like an eternity. I cancelled to be told it was now ready. By this time I had had enough. The lasagna was put in a takeaway box. I was told I wouldn’t be welcome back, well actually I wouldn’t want to come back Karen!

First visit and not disappointed. Friendly staff and good service the food was piping hot and well presented. The happy hour is great value and there was no pressure to give up the table. We would definitely visit again.

Very tasty food, great atmosphere, lovely staff. All 4 of us were very impressed, would love to return.

Having a little break in filey fancied an italian for a meal out. La gondola was lovely, the food was beautiful, so reasonably priced. The lady and gent that served us were great too. If you go I 100% recommend the lasagna definitely the best I have tasted.

Excellent menu, good choice, pleasant staff, but waited longer than I would have expected for food. When It did arrive it was hot, very tasty and plentiful at a price that was not out of the way. I would certainly go back there again.
