Il Piatto bar & restaurant in Scarborough

Small Italian restaurant. We had a sharing board which was generous and delicious. I had really good tagliatelle. The other half had caprese that was excellent. The variety of tomatoes was great and super tasty. The kids had pizza, which were spot on. Relaxed atmosphere. Attentive but non intrusive service. Good location.

Just eaten here food was excellent had a mushroom starter lasagne and strudel staff were professional and made you feel welcome food was very tasty and cooked to a high standard would recommend this place to alll.

Simply awful place, chef that can't cook anything and service with an attitude, no doubt this will also get removed for telling the truth!!!! Walked out before main course it was that bad, undercooked inedible food!, also take some wet wipes as the tables are sticky, yuk, served warm rose wine asked 3 times for ice ended up going to the bar myself. Oh and by the way the owner purchases 5 star reviews on trip advisor to make him look better then it is! If it's not 5 stars it gets removed. If I could give zero stars i would!!!!!!! JUST TO UPDATE!!!! This really unprofessional owner decided on March 14th to go to my workplace 60 miles away from the restaurant to seek my home address, I mean wow!!! In the words you use "it will be on cctv" , I also have the original emails you sent to me but I won't post them on here as I'm not like that! EVERYONE TAKE A LOOK AT HIS 1 STAR REVIEWS ON TRIP ADVISOR, HE EVEN TEXT CUSTOMERS FOR LEAVING POOR REVIEWS!!!!!!!!!!!! Instead of trying to find me and wasting time get yourself to a cookery course! Or maybe a special hospital to sort you sad Italian attitude out! Ps..your responses on poor reviews are disgusting, not professional behavior, your attitude to customers needs sorting out, you cannot email and text them for leaving honest reviews, accept it!!!!

A really lovely little restaurant! We were staying in Scarborough and happened upon il Piatto on the first night, tge welcome was so warm and the food so delicious that we went on our second night too! Over the two nights we had two different pastas and two different pizzas, all of which were delicious but I have to say the penné with Tuscan sausage, mushrooms and cream was wonderful! It was busy both times restaurant we went but service was good and the food well worth any wait.

The best Italian restaurant we’ve been to by far, went 18mths ago and returned tonight. The food is delicious, full of fresh flavours and service great too. Absolutely recommend.

Good proper Italian food and wonderful wines

Lasagna not very tasty and fillet steak not so tender. Bit disappointing, but staff and service were faultless.

Genuinely one of the best Italians we’ve had for a long time. Sharing meat platter to start was absolutely spot on. Pizza and the lasagna as mains were both fantastic, tasty and made properly. Would definitely recommend.

Me and my partner came for our anniversary and I thought I'd book somewhere nice, as soon as we walked in the service was very welcoming and friendly. The food was amazing, we only had 2 mains and a desert but they were brilliant, couldn't fault it and price wise I was more than happy. Will definitely be coming again.

Lovely little restaurant. Close to where we were staying. Not your typical Chain Italian menu. The Carbornara best I have had. Portions large . I would of liked to have given 5 star but the evening was let down by a group of foul mouthed thugs. Such a shame.

Staff are friendly, and so welcoming to us and our little dog. Gave us plenty of time to look over them menu which is not too overwhelming but has a good range of food. The only reason I’ve not scored 5 star is because the prawn risotto came and it had raw red onion stirred through at the end of cooking so the flavor was overpowered, I’ve not seen this done before and I don’t think it added to the dish in a positive way. The carbonara was very heavily peppered too, but this is down to taste, overall it’s good food at a decent price and very good service. EDIT- I find the owners response very strange, I was picking still firm bits of red onion out of the finished dish, which tasted of raw onion primarily. I’ve not left a bad review, I’d have still eaten there again if not for the reply by the owner. But if we are splitting hairs, the onion should be white and finely chopped when preparing a risotto.

Very nice place - just the best service and amazing food. Not expensive or too fancy but can't fault this restaurant. Waiters are friendly, chatty, helpful - food was lovely. One the best salmon I've ever had and huge pizza. Drinks and desserts are reasonably priced and even the coffee is lovely. What more can I say! oh... the vegetables were nice too. thanks.

We all very much enjoyed the food which was presented well and tasted absolutely gorgeous. The staff were welcoming and friendly. The food prices were very reasonable and the whole bill should have been about £60 (happy hour offer before 6:30). However, I did make the mistake of asking for an unlisted drink, the Italian classic Aperol Spritz which I was charged £9, £3.50 and £1.50 for the Prosseco, Aperol and Dash of Soda respectively. I queried if £14 for the drink was correct and the staff defended the charge. So be aware of asking for mixed drink. When in Rome ....

Family of nine including one child. No one was disappointed with the quality of food. Staff are attentive and efficient and friendly. Would definitely recommend and go again

Absolutely fantastic food. The Beef & Guinness Stew I had, was to die for & the Salmon in foil, outfaced my wife. Very good value.

Our favourite restaurant in Scarborough. We discovered it last year whilst on holiday and kick started this years holiday with a beautiful meal on our first night away this year. We visited a second time during the week.

A warm welcome, a cozy atmosphere, fantastic wine, a reasonable price and one of the best pizza’s I’ve ever had! I know I’m bigging this up but trust me, this place is awesome. The next time me and my family are in the area, we’ll be visiting again 100%.

Lovely restaurant with delicious food, can not recommend enough, the cheese and garlic bread just melted in your mouth. It was the perfect combination of crispy and gooey all at once.

We decided on a night in Scarborough and looked on Google of where to eat. This place came up and we looked at the menu before they were open. We phoned on the day (Friday) and booked for that evening. The service was excellent, the place inviting, warm and good atmosphere. The food was outstanding. I had the saltimbocca and her in doors had the beef in Guinness. Would recommend.

We had tried to get into Il Piatto previously when in Scarborough but it was always busy. Finally got in tonight and so glad we did. Excellent food, brilliant service, and a great atmosphere despite it being a cold, wet November night. I cannot recommend Il Piatto enough.

From the warm welcome , to the wave goodbye , this was an Italian to remember . The shared veggie platter was generous with loads of different flavours . The spinach and recotta pasta amazing ,with fresh tomato sauce , pizza was good too . All washed down with a lovely house wine , but the make or break of any good Italian ( for me , anyway ) the tiramisu....was THE best , will leave more room next time , for a full one . Great for a pre-theatre meal .

My first visit here but wont be my last, excellent value, quick tasty pizza. Efficient service in a nice setting.

Overall slightly disappointed. Fillet was way over for a medium and not the tenderest steak I’ve had. Peppercorn sauce a bit too zingy. The pizza was ok with, if anything, too much topping and a slightly thinner base would be better but still pretty good. Atmosphere varied between noisy fun family party and private dining, just us. It was a Wednesday. Ok ambience. Plainish decor. The service was prompt and friendly. Made us feel welcome.

We normally go to another Italian rstaurant in Scarborough but have visited this restaurant a few times. We had a wonderful meal and we all enjoyed the food. It was quite busy and the service was good but the food was excellent.

I am a vegetarian and found several options, all I had was very tasty and the staff were very pleasant. Will def. be returning.

Just a genuine Italian restaurant with a genuine Italian chef who cooks your meal to order.

Good food and great price. Some of the best Italian food outside of Italy. Menu not dominated by pasta,and pizza Vegetables were adjusted to our liking. Staff could mot have done more to make our meal more enjoyable. The final bill, like the food was palatable.

The food was fine. The lasagna had some large clumps of ball mozzarella that would've benefited being missed, as they had become quite chewy. The food was ok but nothing to write home about. Service could've been a bit more attentive. Music choice was a bit odd for an Italian restaurant, it was randomly switched off which left a weird atmosphere. Was good value for money considered we had a bottle of wine, a starter, a side salad and two mains. The total was £66. We were a bit gutted that the more traditional Italian dishes were off limits as the specials weren't on offer.

Really fancied an Italian as it’s my partner’s favourite. The restaurant was really close so looked ideal. So we set off with our two labradors. On arrival we were told their one dog friendly table was occupied. How can a restaurant claim to be dog friendly if it has only one table. Needless to say… we didn’t eat there. Massively disappointed.

Good music amazing food credit to the chef brilliant staff with children too we had our 10 month old baby with us they couldn't be more helpful with a high chair booster chair and offering a small dish for him to share our food the food was amazing and prices were even better 5* all round

Booked before visiting Scarborough. Taxi driver put us off with his comments earlier in the day. Glad we didn't take his advice as we enjoyed our meals and the ambience. Chef/owner is Italian. Waiting staff were very friendly and efficient. The food was good, portions good and reasonable prices. Would recommend

To be honest we've walked past this restaurant many times in the past & decided that looking from the outside it didn't look up yo much. This time I really wanted Italuan so we decided to give it a try...... it was a Friday & it was busy but we managed to get a table for 2 : service from both ladies was fantastic, really professional, pleasant, quick & helpful. The food was excellent & all in all it was such good value for money. So good that we went 3 times in as many days. The waiting team made the experience fabulous & the atmosphere was brilliant. We will return next time we are in Scarborough

A ride up the funicular railway takes you directly opposite this fabulous restaurant. Don't be put off by the normal Italian restaurant prices as this place is very reasonable and value for money here is exceptional.

We visited whilst on holiday in the area and after looking at other restaurants decided we'd give this one a try. The pizzas were really delicious and worth every penny. We were lucky enough to book during happy hour so they were a bit of a bargain too. My other half rated the lasagne as 'decent', which is high praise from him. Unfortunately I wasn't so keen on the desserts; although sounding delicious I really regretted choosing the almond tart which was just very rubbery. The rest of the table enjoyed their desserts though so maybe it was just me. The place was quite busy but the staff did their best to look after everyone. My (slightly crazy) children believe the fairy lights deserve a special mention.

Very unber staffed we had to wait over half an hour for a starter. The bruschetta was ok. There was plenty of it . I had sea bass Which was lovely but my wife's chicken was greasy. A large table then came in including at least 6 children which led us to cut our meal short as the noise was deafening. There are better Italian restaurants in Scarborough

Each of our group of five had something different and every dish was delicious. We were served by a lovely waitress who made sure we were well looked after. Brilliant restaurant 👍😎

I had amazing olives to start in the perfect dressing and the Fussilli Gamberoni (pasta with prawns) BUT with the most gorgeous, creamy, mushroomy, very garlicky sauce and other herbs. Fantastic big prawns. I like good food but this was a SPECIAL dish. I highly recommend 😋

Got a late booking so we’re grateful for that but …. 3 meals arrived one didn’t after 10 mins told it was coming but we had got through half our meal so my wife cancelled her order : Lo behold it then turned up but was sent away a somewhat brusque eastern lady was not happy but we made it clear they had blown it. It doesn’t take a lot to ensure meals arrive together especially just a pizza , Food was average service below par not one we would return to

Great food was delicious. The only improvement i could suggest would be faster asking if we wanted a drink and were ready to order.

Booked for my partners birthday what a disappointment. Place lacked atmosphere, staff miserable and the food was sub standard i had the carbonara it was swimming in what i can only describe as a greasy sludge and the spaghetti was overcooked. My partner had a pizza (more of a flatbread) he said the chicken was dry and the supposed caramelised onions were practically raw. Seriously guys step up your game

We had 2 vegetarian pasta dishes and they were both very good. The pizza margherita was not that good: way too much cheese and salt,and too little tomato sauce.

Visited in January of this year and last week. Unfortunately, we felt that standards and service had unfortunately slipped and from an excellent experience in January to a moderated experience last week.

Excellent ingredients, very fresh and good quality. Exterior and interior could do with a refresh but would def recommend for the food and good value.

They know what they’re doing here. No scrimping on fresh and delicious ingredients. All the choice. Absolutely authentic and cooked to perfection. Home made desserts. Proper Italian chef. Friendly and accommodating service. Bene. Molto bene.

One of those informal family-run Italian restaurants where fashion matters little but good Italian food matters a great deal. The pizzas are wonderfully mis-shapen and completely delicious. I recommend especially the White bechamel pizza. Piping hot and fresh as fresh. A splendid little restaurant.

Food was amazing really flavourful and perfect portion sizes. We was a group of 8 with small children and nothing was to much trouble for the staff. Will definitely visit again next time we are in Scarborough

A great find in the South Shore area. The hand-stretched dough pizzas were beautiful and the happy hour deal was pretty good.

On entering the staff were friendly and professional. We went for a family meal. I didn't have a starter although others did, which they seemed to enjoy. The main courses seemed a bit hit and miss, one pizza was lovely, another was very doughy. Two pizzas had chili on them one was fine the other incredibly hot. I had a chicken dish that had a strange after taste, which grew to being unpleasant very quickly. I soon discovered why, when I bit into what I thought was a black olive, only to find it was a very burnt clove of garlic. I would like to have said something but unfortunately nobody came to do a table check. I think there are other places that I would recommend before Il Piatto.

Food was exceptional. The chef is superb. Pork, steak, chicken you name it and his salmon was to die for. Never tasted sauce like it. Staff so friendly and service great. Loved it all.

Didn't book, but we were made very welcome and within 5 minutes we had a table for 4. The service, food and overall experience was great. We ordered a bit to much pizza and bread, so we were able to take it away with us....

Lovely stuffed pepper starter for 2, and a friendly waitress. What would have been a great fillet steak except I asked for mine rare and it was done medium so that spoiled it for me. A big shame 😐

Was passing and popped in just for a coffee. But I saw the Pizzas being prepared and had to have one. I had a meat feast pizza, resplendent with pepperoni, pancetta, salsiccia and red chillies. It was very tasty, served as an oblong piece of stretched dough. The base was lovely and crisp, one of the best I've had in this area for years. Chef/Patron Claudio is passionate about his food and culture and this is reflected in the quality of the food he cooks. I cannot recommend this place enough

Absolute hidden gem of a restaurant. Would highly recommend the mushroom risotto. One of the best meals I've ever had. If I could give more stars I Absolutely would and the staff are wonderful and attentive
