The lovely, friendly staff were very helpful assisting a member of our party with allergies, and all the dishes we had were really nice. Highly recommended.

Food was absolutely beautiful! The restaurant it's self was clean and decorated well. Staff ( Rosie and Hiwa )welcomed us and we're attentive throughout. We will visit again.

Given raw chicken and when questioned why there was blood seeping out of the chicken they simply replied you arent having a refund we dont like the english!!! Absolutely shocked by the treatment of the manager, remember whos country your in !!!

Absolutely disgusted in this place chicken came raw pink inside and I sent it back for my partner to still be eating and mine came back 2 mins later and no sauce on ? So it had obviously been back in the pan , when got further eating it it was still raw so when she came to clear the plate I told her and she had a word with the chef and owner for us to see him throwing his arms up saying we don’t like English people so there not having a refund !!! Racism ! Unbelievable! Left what we had and that’s it didn’t pay for my raw meal ! Horrible management staff lovely !

Had a very nice meal here highly recommend mushrooms starter calamari starter and the pizzas are simply delicious. Highly recommend and look fwd to being back

Lovely little modern themed restaurant. We arrived as it was getting dark and the pathway leading up to the restaurant was lit up. Lovely food aromas drifted down towards us along with the clattering of cutlery and crockery and the murmurings of conversation. All gave the of Mediterranean vibes. Seated straight away and drink orders promptly taken and delivered. We were served through out our meal by various waitresses and waiters. All polite and friendly and all very busy on their feet. Food was good all served piping hot. Lovely bottle of merlot to accompany. Pricing was reasonable.

The food was delicious, especially the mains! My arancini was lovely, had a really nice crisp outside, but it was a bit bland in the middle. I feel like the truffle mayo (which was divineee) was the only component that had any flavour. The garlic mushrooms were beautiful as expected! So tender and well cooked and the garlic sauce was very creamy! And my pasta was the star of the show for me, it was delicious and had a lovely taste of pesto running through it alongside the Napoli sauce. And with a sprinkle of Parmesan as well! Yummy! The calzone was one of the best I’ve ever eaten as well. However it didn’t come with a tomato sauce on the side though which I thought was a bit odd but nevertheless my partner really enjoyed it. Also, special mention to the bottle of Primmy (Primitivo) we had! 😍 it was so so so good I could’ve drunk it all to myself hahahah The only thing I will say about eating here is that the service was a bit tooooo fast.. Like to the point where we had only been there half an hour and we were already on our main meals 🤣 I know they’ve had bad reviews about the service before so they’re probably trying to overcompensate for it by rushing out meals instead of leaving a gap in between courses. Not a huge issue but I do think there’s a sweet spot for service where it isn’t too fast and isn’t too slow - they’d just need to perfect that and then it’ll be bang on🥰 Thank you for last night guys!

A beautiful little restaurant adjacent to a lake and convenient parking next door. Albeit a small space, the service was prompt and friendly. Fresh food with good portions. Highly recommended.

Phoned the day before arrival and we were squeezed in for 7pm a couple of nights ago, so I knew it was going to be busy. I arrived first and was offered a drink whilst waiting for my friend. Once she arrived again she was served swiftly. Whilst sipping on our wines we waited a little longer than expected for our order to be taken, but we did not mind, as we knew we were squeezed in for 7pm on a last minute booking. This restaurant has been on my radar for a while now as walk regularly around the lake and wished I had come sooner! We both had a main and then two deserts with coffee at the end. All the food was gorgeous including the desserts. My friend had Lasanga and I had a Pasta dish with shrimps, tomato pesto and sun dried tomatos, Delicious! We had homemade cheesecake which was amazing and also the Tiramisu which also amazing. We were served by a lovely waitress who answered all our questions with honesty. Forgot her name! Sorry. First time at this restaurant and will definitely return. We were the last pair to leave! Thank you!

Would usually rate this higher,however, ordered bruschetta as a starter which was literally one piece of toast - which was cold with tomatoes on the top of it and a slice of cold cheese .. wasn’t nice at all and sent it back and asked for it knocking off the bill. My partner had to pull a cobweb away which was behind my head away from me which freaked me out a little little bit LOL The main was quite nice It is a nice restaurant, probably wouldn’t go back.

First time visiting today with friends. A lovely calm atmosphere, with friendly staff and beautiful surroundings. The huge rosemary and sea salt garlic bread was divine , I will be dreaming about the taste for a while. I followed this with a chicken and mushroom risotto which was creamy and extremely tasty. We will be back.

My friend (who is disabled) and I were having a meal to celebrate her birthday. They went out of their way to make sure she could safely access the restaurant. The food was lovely and the service friendly.

I have dined here many times and it never fails to deliver consistently good food served in a warm ambience by friendly staff. I would highly recommend and look forward to my next visit.

I’ve been to La Fortezza a few times now and keep hoping it’s better than the last time. Unfortunately not. It’s in a beautiful location and the restaurant itself looks fantastic. It’s the food that lets this place down. I had the bruschetta and the toast the cherry tomatoes were on was inedible it was so hard. You literally couldn’t get a sharp knife through it. My friend had pate on toast and had the same issue. The salad leaves were just dumped on the side of the plate with no dressing. My main was penne arrabiata. Just a medium pile of overcooked penne and a spray of arrabiata sauce - it was very dry. My friend had a pizza which was ok but she left half. Service was hit and miss. It’s a small restaurant but trying to catch someone’s attention was a bit tricky. I just don’t understand why this restaurant cannot get the food right? Great location, great restaurant but the food is at best average. Where is the dressing for the salad? Why is the toast for bruschetta/pate so hard? Why is the pasta overcooked and dry and there is no sauce? We had the same problems last time we came, the restaurant told us they didn’t have any dressing/olive oil for the salad. Bonkers. Just a real shame as this restaurant could be fantastic. Sadly we won’t be going again.

perfect location and atmosphere, very well presented, excellent staff all round. The food is stunning and very very reasonable pricing, very good portions on all the dishes we had. Pizza's are amazing and well priced, dont be put off thinking you cant afford it, you can, no rip off in any way, we will definately become regular customers.

We popped in on the way past without a reservation and were squeezed in on a busy Saturday night. The food was fresh and piping hot, one of my big hates is lukewarm food ! The service was good and Rosie was outstanding, kept checking that everything was ok and if we needed anything. The dishes themselves were beautifully presented and very tasty, we had garlic mushrooms and bruschetta starters which were very generous servings. Then a variety of chicken and pasta dishes which were all very nice indeed. We had no room for desert but what was being brought out looked stunning. We will definitely eat here again, Chef just keep doing what you are doing and you won’t go wrong. Thank you

Great place, the atmosphere is amazing, very modern, stylish and clean and at a great location too. There is a car park right next to the restaurant which is free after 6pm, and the entrance to the restaurant via the car park is also very stylish. The food was amazing both main course and dessert, and definitely leave feeling satisfied.The staff were lovely also. I’ll definitely will be back again. Highly recommend dining here.

Lovely location, building, ambience and staff but food is only ok and not great. Pizza base had a similar texture to a supermarket pizza and not comparable to say a wood fired pizza.

Great traditional Italian food, Busy for a Tuesday night recommend booking.

Advisable to book this small but busy Italian restaurant. It's situated overlooking Newmillerdam in what was a gamekeepers Lodge,this building has been extended with a modern glass structure. The menu was not hugely extensive but was varied to cater for different tastes. My wife and I had a starter, main and dessert and several rounds of beer. Our bill was just touching £100 we had a full filling meal in an enjoyable atmosphere.

Booked here for 3 of us. The restaurant looked clean, tidy and modern. We were seated straight away. It was only a small menu but had plenty of choice. Our orders were taken and our food arrived promptly. The staff were friendly and attentive. We thoroughly enjoyed our food. They also sang “happy birthday” to my husband but I missed it as I’d nipped to the loo ha ha. But all in all we enjoyed our food and would happily return in the future. Oh I believe you can park for free in Newmilller Dam carpark after 6pm too.

Turned up and the kitchen was closed without any notification. Waste of time.

Nice tasty pizzas. We bought: Vegetarian - it was great and la fortezza- also good.

We tried here because of the good reviews. But don’t be fooled. We arrived at 5:50 and we got our drinks 15 mins later. We didn’t get our food order taken until 30 minutes later. We got our starters which were actually quite nice. We then waited another 30 minutes (which I know isn’t too bad) for our mains to come, for them to bring out my main but my partners main came wrong. So we sent it back and were told it would only be 4/5 minutes (was just a pizza). About 10 minutes later if not longer I had eaten my main and my partners food still hadn’t come. When his pizza eventually came, it was a sloppy mess. All the toppings (chicken and ham) were everywhere just fell off the pizza onto his plate. I tried a slice and it was awful. When his food did come, there was barely any room on the table. Table was about as big as a 2 pence coin. I had the biggest bowl for about 4 scoops of carbonara. We had a portion of chips. His plate for the pizza was huge, hanging off the edge of table. Surprised the sloppy mess didn’t end up falling on his knee. Service was shocking. When we were waiting for our mains, a waiter came over asking if we wanted to see the pudding menu??? I wasn’t offered Parmesan for my pasta either. We asked for the bill and they were straight over with it, shame they wasn’t so efficient with the food, clearly just wanted the money. Overall just an absolute waste of time and money.

Well what can I say? Never been to an Italian and come away hungry before!!! 2 layers of pasta with smallest amount of meat, that didn't even fill the dish! Picked this dish, as normally you can't go wrong with a lasagne! Seriously I've made better myself!!! Mum and dad's chicken and prawn in a peroni sauce was flattened that much it looked like meat you would put in a sandwich!!! Prawn cocktail, came in a bowel full of lettice plenty of prawns but nothing else!!!! Except a spring of mint on the top the same as everything else that came out of the kitchen!!!! Daughters carbonara was tasteless and more like rice pudding! Very sickly and all you could taste was cream! Staff were friendly enough, but that was the only thing that was good about our evening.Really need to up their game if they want to stay in buisness, especially when the new Italian opens across the Road.Very disappointing for a 1st visit!! Will not be returning.

My partner and I went to La Fortezza for dinner which we both enjoyed very, very much. The restaurant is in a very nice setting overlooking the lake. The food was great and the staff were faultless. We would visit again without hesitation.

We called in as a party of four, having booked and I’m glad we did, and it was excellent. The staff, the atmosphere and the food were all superb. We were made very welcome and any menu queries were fully explained and assistance given in trying something new. The service was very friendly and not rushed at all. Food was excellent and we all had starters, mains, three desserts, two bottles of wine, other drinks and coffee for £180 for four!!! Cannot argue with that at all. The ribs and the Arancini were stunning and I never order a pizza at an Italian restaurant, however, seeing them brought out I ordered a Carne Mista and it was delicious. Would highly recommend and will definitely return and it’s easy to see why it’s so popular.

Really high expectations for our first meal here, but sadly our experience didn't live up to these. Ordered 4 drinks with our waitress, only to be told a few minutes later by a senior member of staff that 2 of the drinks were unavailable. No fault with the quality of the food & it arrived promptly but whilst there were plenty of staff, they were sadly unattentive to us during our meal. Overall, a very underwhelming experience.

On recommendation my wife and I visited 6.30 on a Friday We ate in the new conservatory and were looked after well despite every table being taken Baby ribs...so tender and meaty to start then the the Spaghetti de la Fortezza for 2 Honestly the best pasta dish I have had in ages...highly recommended! Proseccos and cold beer and very good coffee and we went home happy Keeping this standard up is the key to success We will be back and soon! Congratulations!

I had this restaurant recommended to me, and it did not disappoint! From when we first set foot in the establishment i was amazed. The staff were polite and friendly, and the atmosphere was thriving. The menu provided a variety of options, catering very well with allergies. I would recommend La Fortezza to everyone. Continue the good work!

It was alright, everything we had was fine but it was alright. The menu read really well but the ensuing dish didn't quite fit the description. Please believe me, there was nothing wrong here but a little bit underwhelming.

I can't say enough good things about Lafortezza. It is our go to place when we want Italian food. The service and food are the best around.

Gave this place another chance as a year and half ago we had a bad experience with staff rushing about and ruining a relaxed meal. Arrived for dinner. The staff we’re friendly enough and my friend was happy with his chicken dish. My garlic mushrooms were missing the garlic and the pizza was a bit rubbery. Come 9. 15pm the staff were walking past us in their coats. Subtle. We carried on talking and then the music was turned off. Not acceptable. Why take bookings when you want to close early? Would have thought they’d be trying to please given that the new Capri will be opening up opposite soon

Came with my wife to dinner, the staff were so friendly and the food was delicious. This restaurant will be always our dinner stop when we visit wakefield. We are already planning to visit again in our anniversary.

We booked a table for saturday evening, we dine at many italian restaurants so i have always wanted to try this one. On arrival no welcolme and no smiles, there was over 6 members of staff serving and not one had any customer service skills and not one looked like they enjoyed working there. I ordered a chicken dish and it was a piece of chicken on my plate, no vegetables included, everything was extra, i would rate our meal a 4 out of ten. We wont be going back and wont be recommending. The setting is lovely but parking is a issue.

What a fabulous restaurant La Fortezza is. Took my fiancée out for a birthday meal.. Very tasty food indeed and cooked fresh with a convivial atmosphere. Staff where polite the price reasonable and the restaurant sits at our favourite spot Newmillerdam. A wonderful evening would visit again no question about it.

We had previously never visited La Fortezza despite living not too far away in Mapplewell. We first visited for Valentine’s Day with our 2 year old. The decor and ambiance gave a real ‘fine dining’ feel to the restaurant. The staff were friendly and happy to help us. We enjoyed the experience so much we returned for an anniversary meal a week later. The manager Aram made our experience extra special and the food, as per the first occasion, was delicious. All food was well presented, timely, piping hot and tasty! All at an affordable price too! We will definitely be returning again and again!

Arrived and seated promptly. Drinks orders taken, cocktails not very good - Mojito for example, glass not even filled with crushed ice, very minty but no lime taste. Food was better than the service. The place wasn’t full and took ages to take plates and empty drinks away. Asked for a break inbetween starter and main of about 20 mins and it came after 7. Steak didn’t look like a steak! It tasted ok but looked anemic it looked like chicken from the outside! But food was ok generally. Didn’t do desserts. Price fairly average. All in all a bit disappointed and I think there’s nicer Italians locally.

First visit to this Italian restaurant. Nice surroundings ,nice and clean. Good food really enjoyed the experience would recommend to anyone who likes Italian food. Prices not too expensive. Only letdown was having to park in public car park, having to pay for parking.

Amazing garlic bread for sure. Ragu pasta was a bit of a let down, no real flavour. Ribs as starter also same. Insalata Caprese came with a tropical rain forest of salad which detracted from a simple dish.

We ordered a mix of starters, mains and desserts, all were served in a timely manner and were delicious. We sat in the old part of the building (at the front) which doesn't have as much of a lively atmosphere as the extension at the back, but it didn't spoil our evening. Drinks are pricey but the meals are reasonably priced for the location. Excellent parking in the main Newmillerdam car park, with a number of pubs in walking distance for afterwards.

First time here & from my first experience loved it! Me & my partner both got the fillet steak with fries & peppercorn sauce & it was amazing! Great atmosphere & really nice inside & out. Only thing I could say is the heating must of been on high as I was really uncomfortable as it was very warm inside. Staff was friendly & polite. Will definitely be coming back again.

Had a lovely valentines meal at La Fortezza. We visited years ago before the extension and it was just as tasty as we remembered. Fab service and great food.

We went on Sunday evening and had a table booked for 6.30. The app said we had our table for 2 hours. The food was good. And well worth the price. The issue is we felt rushed we were seated right in front of the bar and we were constantly being pestered as.soon as the Last piece of food entered our mouths they tried to clear our plate and move on with the meal. Basically 4 starters and mains with drinks and out by 7.40 not.a pleasant experience

Honestly couldn't fault this place at all. First time I've been, the food was fantastic, service on point and overall a lovely place to have a meal. Much cheaper than I expected too which was obviously a bonus! Will be visiting again soon.

Went for my cousin's 30th birthday and it was excellent. We were a massive table of about 15 people and everything was perfect, not an order wrong, all served ay same time, food hot and beautiful. Cannot fault it. I haven't been for 18 years and was pleasantly surprised, it has changed massively but still as amazing. Cannot fault it

We hada table for our 5th anniversary . For starter we ordered cheesy garlic bread and strogaoff and lasagne for main , absolutely gorgious . Really like lafortez.

Beautiful surroundings, however food disappointing. Starters Arancini and garlic bread were lovely but the main had no flavour. Chicken risotto and stroganoff tagliatelle very bland. Service was great and staff very accommodating but wouldn’t return.

Food okay, Calzone a little undercooked but tasty. The dough was a little raw. Service was terrible, the gentleman who served us seemed frustrated we shared our starters. Then when taking our dessert order, walked off half way through and another waiter came over had to take the order.

We were seated in the front part of the restaurant as the main part was really busy, we walked in there and it was absolutely freezing. A lady in there was sat in her big winter coat, my friend and i sat shivering. Someone came out to put the heating on but it made 0 difference. The food came, it was delicious however my friends food came out 5 minutes before mine and then we had to ask for our chips. Our food was cold within 5 minutes because of how cold the room was. It has really put me off going back to be honest. No staff really hanging around to ask if you would like another drink, feels like the front part is just forgotten about to be honest. I had high expectations but disappointingly, they were not met. We didnt stay for dessert because it was far too cold.

I normally do not set my standards too high, but when it comes to Italian cuisine - I am very strict. So... I just feel disappointed. The restaurant is tiny and it gets very busy. It is not relaxing at all, as you feel like you sitting next to a stranger. I have an impression that the staff needs to squeeze in between the tables. When it comes to service - the staff seems to be "ok", but it just feels like they are not very keen on their profession. When I think about Italian food and culture, I imagine passionate, cheerful and involved people. Could not feel this Italian spark in there. Food is so average and tastes like it needs more seasoning. Maybe use of garlic will help out in this? The food tasted bland. I would not put it into the bin, but also I didn't feel in love with it. I think the most important ingredient is missing there - passion for cooking. Furthermore, we ordered 2 glasses of wine and we never got them. And guess what - they showed up on our bill! The waiter apologised and admitted he forgot about it. Mistakes happen, I understand it, but for me it was the first and last time in this place.

Dined this evening for an 8.30pm practically pushed out by 9.30pm - last diners in first out. Just didn’t feel welcome at all :/. Food definitely not fresh and could see waiting staff making packet desserts from the fridges in the main restaurant, very disappointing.

Have been a number of times. Positive comments: lovely restaurant in terms of decor, lighting , glassware and crockery. Food is well cooked and tasty. Service is attentive to a point. Comments to consider: every time I’ve been the younger waiting staff spend too much time talking to each other or walking around aimlessly trying to look busy. Spend more time with your customers. There’s more to the role than taking orders and delivering food and asking ‘is everything ok with your food’. Fried zucchini- served in a bowl on top of a heap of lettuce feels like you are trying to reduce the amount of courgette used. Maybe use a smaller bowl and cut the lettuce. Please find some other garnish for all dishes other than a handful of rocket or lettuce. It’s quite a lazy way to add colour and no one eats it as it doesn’t go with hot garlic mushrooms or pollo fortezza (which was lovely) And cut out the straws with every drink and save yourself some money.

Fabulous meal at a wonderful setting just on the lakeside at newmillerdam. The wall to wall glass provides an amazing backdrop to incredible freshly cooked food. The restaurant is quite small so booking is a must!

Arrived and ordered promptly, an hour later still no starters. Questioned staff and received a vague response only to be told our order had been missed. 20 minutes later still no food. Had to go to bar ourselves for drinks. Food on arrival was nice, not great but okay. Restaurant was not overly busy therefore no reason other than lack of training/ poor customer service skills for the poor service. Was told our starters would be free due to error, however only deducted £20 from bill (rather than £35). Such a shame as it was a lovely setting and atmosphere but some of the staff where almost rude and it was obvious they didn’t want to be there. On their phones or gossiping in the corner as we went to bar to get our own drinks. So disappointed as we’d been looking forward to visiting for a while. We won’t be visiting again.

The most beautiful location and even more beautiful food! Went as a special occasion before leaving home and was a perfect night! The service was efficient and friendly and the food (sirloin steak and spaghetti la fortezza) certainly was worth it, couldn’t recommend any more!

Me and my friend went to eat there on a Friday night. Firstly, the staff were so friendly and accommodating! We ordered, garlic mushroom and ribs and starters and they were delicious. Then we ordered a spaghetti La fortezza and a serloin steak (which was cooked perfectly). The atmosphere was so friendly and welcoming. Will definitely be going back again! :)
