LA Fish in Southampton

At last a proper fish & chip shop.. Delicious fish with non soggy chips all freshly cooked! Great value as well.

Ignore the recent and highly suspicious reviews... (all left within the same month, all with the same star rating etc etc...) I have used this place for 3 years, since a friend moved local to it. The owners, Lynn and Richard are lovely people and the food is brilliant. Freshly cooked to perfection, the batter on the fish is how I remember it tasting when I was a child, and have rarely experienced since. Yes you might have to wait whilst your meal is cooked but hey MacDonalds is up the road should you prefer lousy instant grub...

The man behind the counter is xenophobic and intolerant, pretending that the place is closed to avoid serving, and in a very bad way. Without trying it, it is impossible to justify its advertisement as the award-winning fish and chips, as it has the product already cooked on the counter and reheats it, including the chips. It didn't look good, neither the food nor the place.

Horrible smelled terrible and on top of that the fish was hard and very expensive I don't recommend it

The owner kicked us out rudely and tricked us by saying it was closed, when it wasn't.

We went for takeaway fish and chips and I have never had such a bad meal. The fish was poorly done. The disgusting batter. I do not recommend to anybody. Besides, the place smelled very bad. I do not recommend anyone to even enter. I would have to go to health to check it.

We have not been able to ask and they have fired us for no reason

We entered the empty place and while we were deciding what to order the owner came out from inside saying that we should leave because it was closed, when it was a lie since we just let a guy pass in front while we looked at the menu to decide. He turned off the lights for us to leave and when he saw that we were gone he turned them on again. So terrible service because he didn't even let us talk. Maybe it bothered him that we won the Euro Cup for them...

I do not recommend this place at all. 9 of us came in to order and they made us very rude. He tells us that it has closed. Turning off the lights. Then after a while we see that he turns the lights back on. We don't know the reason. Or racist of the Spanish? Namely. Business will do very well. Or is it thought to be unique? There are more places of the same in Southampton.

Something surreal just happened to me in this restaurant. We have had 9 people (Spanish) come in to order takeaway, because it had good reviews. It turns out that there was an hour left before closing and the owner came out and told us that it was closed. We're out and turn off the lights. We walk away and see that he turns on the lights again and opens the door. It seemed surreal to us. Don't worry that we won't be going to eat your fush and chips, there are many restaurants. I don't understand the reviews that they are nice, nothing like that. That have never happened to me Food: 1/5 | Service: 1/5 | Atmosphere: 1/5

Me and my wife decided to walk down the high street to see what we fancied for dinner and saw Kings fish bar. They were so friendly and the atmosphere felt really homely. Prices were really great and food was cooked to order and tasted perfect. I can speak for the pair of us when I say that we'll definitely be back again ❤️

Never buy from here again worst sausage in dry batter chip awful would never use this shop again

Nice food, speedy service on the whole.

Finially found the best fish and chips in Southampton, the fish was soft, sweet and juicy and not many chips but they were nice too. I got a regular and the portions are generous X3 separate fish, you even get a table and chair to sit in and free sauces! The couple owners know what they are doing!

Not recommend. I buy a large portion of chips, but what a rip off, hardly any chips at all, less than a very small portion elsewhere, avoid.

The meals (weekly specials, fish n chips) are large, crispy and delicious. The best thing is that the price is cheap, only £4.85 a portion, and it is very filling.

Helpful nice staff and prompt pick up. Haddock was lovely white fresh fish with lovely golden crispy batter. Chips were fine but could be improved, I would cut them a bit bigger and fry a bit longer so they are more golden. Price was very reasonable. Would rather have chips wrapped in paper than the polystyrene cartons..this may save the planet and be cheaper too. The cardboard boxes are great plus the paper carrier bag. I would def give them a try and I would buy there again tho I don't buy fish and chips very often.

Friendly fish and chippy. Big portions and great value, crispy batter and traditional chips makes for a great tasting takeaway. Great service with a smile; regular chips is a big portion; just like chippys used to give out. Highly recommended.

Visited today for the first time and blown away. Such lovely owners , cooked fresh there and then and possibly the best fish and chips I've ever heard. ( 29 year old from the south of England so have some experience!) Thank you, we will be back as regulars.

Such a nice couple, i will always order half chicken and chips, today the card machine was playing up yet the lady was so helpful, i dont usually make reviews but they are so friendly and the food is so good, top quality food and service.

Would give 5 stars if the wrapped food in paper rather than the bulky cardboard boxes. Surely paper is cheaper. Food is good.

Visited this fish and chip shop (bar) yesterday. Very lovely staff. But I've got to say I've used this place over the years with previous owners dating back to when it was crispins. And as clean and as fresh as it now looks the overall quality of the chips are poor to say the least there cut I'm guessing by hand and not by machine as they seem to cut a lot thinner than that of a machine to give the appearance of more rather than less. Which unfortunately has lead to what I can only say as that rubber texture as the fluffy ness you should have from a decent potato and cut just isnt there. Maybe consider paying a bit more for a quality potato... the overall portion size is poor and when you ask for a large portion and its put in a large bag and its only half full your just asking for someone to make a comment on poor portions I think. The sausage was by far the only serving grace of this purchase. As that tasted very nice. The curry sauce unfortunately was not it was nuked within a inch of its poor life and and congealed at the top and again the portion size again was ridiculously small. I'm sure there fish is award winning but I struggle to see how anything else would or could. Keep up the great customer service and overall friendliness but up your game on quality and portion size and procurement of quality potatoes as they are your core business..

Excellent fish and chips, advertised as award-winning and I can well believe it. Flaky fish coated well in light crispy batter and portions are not too stingy. First class customer service in-store too, will visit again.
