La Famiglia in Kensington and Chelsea

I (an italian) came here with my girlfriend for Valentines Day (1 day late - 15th Feb) , after last having been in July 2024 (it marked our first date spot & both regular customers), so thought it'd be nice to go back. Both quite disappointed overall. The service wasn't great, asking the waiter whether the food was gluten and lactose free seemed to be an issue (the attitude changed right away). The quality of the food also decreased massively. The Spaghetti Alle Vongole was soupy and the dessert (Soufflé alle mandorle) was bland and looked store bought (image comparison - photo on iphone is July 2024, live photo is 15th February). They have also changed items on the menu and removed iconic dishes such as the Vitello Tonnato. It's a real shame, especially considering the prices. Hopefully something changes soon.

What a great experience. Service was excellent. The food was authentic and flawless. Being half Italian I know la Cucina Italiana from my mother and nonna. My wife and I enjoyed everything and great vibe. Wine list is well curated and my Negroni was perfecto. My wife is GF and they had that covered very well. Been here a few years ago when I was back in the UK and La Famiglia still rocks.

You can see why this restaurant has stood the test of time. One of the best Italian meals I’ve had in London and very authentic. Everything I tasted was delicious and delivered in style. A true taste of Italian food and service in London

La Famiglia a once respect household name in the local area has declined so much that they have lost their identity. Parking aside the food which for locals and regulars we know has been in decline for years, however, we still go despite this, in whole, due to the friendly staff and family feel, however, this reviewer can say this is no longer the case. My parents have been going to this venue for over 40 years and I can say with conviction I witnessed the most disgusting and uncomfortable display by the waiting staff and their manager who single-handedly destroyed my mother’s 80th birthday with their rude, vile, and disgusting attitudes, if one weren’t rational, I’d have believed this was a set up and or a hidden camera show for comedic effect. The waiter who sadly miss heard the order which resulted in us receiving the wrong food, proceed to talk down to my elderly parents and for context, there is quite a big age difference, proceeded to tell in the most condescending way possible that this was our order, not ask and or offer up an apology for his mistake, personally, I wanted to get up and punch him. The final straw while leaving was my mother trying to explain to the on-duty manager what happened and trying to give him constructive feedback, again, a further argumentative reply in the most patronising way possible which led to him arguing with 80-year-old women, which at this point I wanted to throw a chair at him. It’s very clear that the team at La Famiglia are ageist and I shudder to think how they treat their own parents let alone their grandparents. Please save yourself the time, the King’s Road offers amble restaurants with polite staff that will not argue with you and or ruin a milestone.

It was delicious! ! I visited this restaurant because it was recommended by Ken Watanabe. Wines start at around £35 and are also good value for money. I think this price is pretty good for this area. I came here for Sunday lunch, and I thought this restaurant was loved by many people with children! ! Fabio's Italian style customer service was wonderful, thank you

You can feel Italy without leaving London. The food is passable, though not transcendent. Highly recommended for special meals where you want to change your mood.

A little cosy spot near Chelsea. It was very busy for a weekday, but we still managed to get a table. The food was good, though quite pricey—but that's to be expected when dining in Chelsea. The downside is that they only sell wine by the bottle, which can be inconvenient if you’re not in the mood to drink an entire bottle.

Once popular restaurant with us, now blighted by poor food quality, and worse extremely poor service We complained about the awful food we were being served to be confronted by the manager who said I had ‘penned a bad review about the restaurant prior’ and essentially that disqualified us from commenting. One assumes he thought us serial complainers Actually we hadn’t penned any reviews, not that that has any relevance whatsoever . But we will now It’s just an establishment that has declined, is used to dealing with complaints in a world weary ‘go somewhere else’ attitude So we do

No, it's delicious. Among the Italian restaurants in London, it's also suitable for Japanese people. However, the yen and pound prices are huge, so even if you don't drink alcohol, you can easily spend more than 10,000 yen on an appetizer, pasta, and dessert. After eating fish and meat here and drinking wine...I realized that there are many delicious restaurants in Soho without having to go to a restaurant outside of the city. The atmosphere is nice, so it's recommended for middle-aged travelers who want to eat in peace. At the very least, it would be nice if 1 pound became around 150 yen.

Excellent food and friendly service at a genuine Italian restaurant.

We booked lunch for four, my wife and I and guests, and this was for 1:15pm. We all arrived on time. Mindful of the time limit on the table we had been advised of, one of our guests had a fixed engagement following the lunch we had hoped to have. The restaurant was busy, and we were understanding when the appetizers did not arrive for 45 minutes. But when by 2:45pm we had not received our main courses, we began to inquire. The waiters, all polite, were reassuring, but nothing arrived. When at 3pm I approached the manager to inquire, I was immediately met with a rude and aggressive manner and a question of whether we would have preferred to receive the main course with the appetizers. I was told that we would just have to wait. I asked the manager to explain this to my wife at our table, and the manager’s continuing aggressive manner made it impossible for us to stay. This was most embarrassing given that we had invited guests for lunch. We asked for the check. On looking at the check, I noted that we were being charged for the entire meal – including the main courses we never received. I insisted that the cost of these be removed, which they were. We left the restaurant, unhappily, with no main course and the Sunday afternoon a very disappointing one. This was not our first meal at La Famiglia...we had been going there for over 30 years, albeit occasionally. One of our favourites. I wrote to the restaurant of our negative experience and received a corporate reply...not sure there is much famiglia left at La Famiglia.....

From the moment we stepped in until the moment we left, La Famiglia treated us like part of their own family. The warm, inviting atmosphere set the tone for a fantastic evening, and the service was top-notch. Most importantly, the food was absolutely sensational—every dish was bursting with flavour and prepared to perfection. A must-visit for anyone craving an authentic, cosy Italian dining experience!

Nice atmosphere and service but spoiled by a 13.5% optional discretionary charge I was not advised of. Definitely a bit on the pricey side for a family dinner.

Started off with a couple of bad looks and italian gossip the second we walked in (which i love they think I cant speak even though my name (the name on the reservation) is Francesca- dead give away) complaining of my kids and my asking of a side of tomato sauce. The place was empty - we were 1 of 3 tables at 5pm but they seemed like they were doing us a favor letting us eat there. The seafood was smelly - my husband couldn't touch some of the pieces of his seafood pasta. We felt uncomfortable and unwelcome. Wouldn't recommend for families or anyone wanting smiles on their waiters faces. Three stars because the bruschetta was good, the place was cute and one busboy was nice enough.

Classic Italian restaurant, I expected more from this we had the truffle risotto which was way way too overcooked felt like a mash …and the pasta was too aldente and very oily couldn’t have. not even half of it, the only thing that I enjoyed was the artichoke which was over 20£ and tiramisu We also had the side beans which were tasteless Overall, not what I was expecting and quite overpriced for the simple dish that they offer not really matches the quality of the food

I hadn’t been years. Wish I hadn’t gone back. Tasteless hard bean starter. And a tagliatelle with meat ragu as main which could have been a Tesco Finest microwaveable meal. Tiramisu seemed fine but the stomach disaster later would have that as the culprit or perhaps what came before. Oh and the coat room lost my umbrella, took my number and never even called to apologise or offer a solution. A relic from the past whose time should come to an end.

Wonderful restaurant we took our toddler having been as a child myself and they treated us with impeccable service in lovely surroundings with great Italian food and friendliness. What's not to love!

It was pretty chilly inside and I found the pasta to be average but good. My friends loved the mushroom risotto though. The service was great. Note that the floor is so slippy!

Lovely place that gets you in the mood for something special but the food is awful. Everything comes upstairs from the kitchen to be distributed by the maitred’ so it’s luke warm by the time it hits your table. Our wait from (cold soup) starter to (Luke warm) main was over an hour. No one seems to care about it either . None of our dishes deserved any praise - it’s not authentic or delicious. And it’s really bloody expensive. Hate to write things like this but it’s just not good enough and actually it’s fraud to seat willing people at tables and overcharge them for such underwhelming fodder…! Go elsewhere…

Service was ok but food was absolutely terrible. Unbelievably expensive and not at all worth a fraction of the cost. I ordered lamb, which was cut into the tiniest pieces, over cooked and just served with lumps of toast with oil poured on. Flavourless and very disappointing. Very rude manager too. Would not go back.

Family run restaurant with rich history. The vibe was great out at the back. The lasagna was ok but could have done with more meat and my partner has the grilled fish which was simple and fresh.

Such a huge disappointment! We’ve all been coming for years but the restaurant has really lost its way. The food was not good - I couldn’t eat my aubergine parmigiana- and the prices were a joke. Four of us had two starters, we had one bottle of wine and a non alcoholic beer, sparking water, no pud and coffees and _even though they didn’t charge for the inedible aubergine _ the price was £230. The dip that came with bread was tasteless; someone had mussels - not very many and 5-7 were not open; the chicken liver pate was dry, unsalted and didn’t appear to contain any butter. The accompanying toast was like little slices of baby risk ( ditto with the bread that came with the mussels). The service was graceless, uninterested and poor - we had to ask for everything ( including a pepper mill ) ; sometimes more than once. A waiter took away the ( overpriced) bottle of wine before it was finished and we had to ask for it back. The waiters had no idea who was eating what, put wrong things down without checking ( several times) and on occasion stretched across directly in front of someone’s face. It was awful! And yes they refunded the cost of my aubergine, but no one asked what was wrong with it, or apologised, or showed any sign of caring. There was a great welcome at the door - to get the suckers in - the rest was rubbish.

Desafortunadamente nuestra experiencia se vio significativamente empañada por la actitud y el tono agresivo y de confrontación del gerente que se acercó a nuestra mesa justo después de que habíamos pedido el postre para informarnos de que nuestro tiempo había terminado y que necesitábamos irnos inmediatamente. Cuando le explicamos que en realidad habíamos reservado la mesa a las 7 (no 6 . 30 como nos dijo repetidamente) , fue muy acusatorio de que fue culpa nuestra, a pesar de que llamamos más temprano en el día para confirmar la hora de la mesa para las 7 pm. También había pasado más de media hora entre limpiar nuestra red y tomar nuestro pedido de postres, lo que nuevamente negó. Lo encontré extremadamente grosero y ciertamente cambió mi opinión al regresar. Nosotros, como grupo, no somos muy conflictivos, y si él hubiera sido educado y se hubiera disculpado por la situación habría estado feliz de dar paso a la siguiente mesa. Lamentablemente se acercó a nosotros de una manera muy agresiva y acusatoria y realmente se llevó lo que por lo demás fue una noche encantadora. Espero que el restaurante aborde la actitud de este miembro del personal, ya que es una pena alejarse de todo el otro equipo encantador y trabajador.

Great place to go for a nice dinner. All the food is great lots of wine choices. The pricing is above your average restaurant but I feel this is reflected in the service and food. The atmosphere is also great

This was a very disappointing evening out with my son and godmother. I tried to book for 7 and was told 6,45pm. The restaurant was packed out the back - jam packed - we had unfortunate seating near the kitchen walkway so the spare chair at our table was banged relentlessly by passing staff. Meanwhile inside was completely empty and would have been much more preferable. I really can’t be bothered to go into details of the food other than it was awful. It’s the only word for it. Prepared. The veal in breadcrumbs was beaten to a pulp to the point where it was curious to see if there was any veal inside the giant breadcrumb slab that hungover either side of the plate. The zucchini frites were soggy - as if they had been scrapped off other people’s plates and reproduced. I have been coming here since 1987. Less so in the last 10 years since they charged a ridiculous amount for grated truffle on my pasta on Friday lunch 10 years who. But at least the food was fine. This was not fine. Disappointing, expensive and probably one of the worst meals out I have had. My friend said the same about 18 months ago when they took her daughter out for a birthday dinner and she said never again.

Disappointing. We’ve been coming here for 10+ years and this was the first time I felt really let down by my experience. Weeks ago I booked a table of six plus space for a pram - when we arrived the host first tried to seat us at a table for 5 on the patio with no real pram space. Then they moved us to a tiny table in the corner of the patio where we had to squeeze up close to the wall to sit down. Our pram was pressed up against the table next door and my mother-in-law’s chair was up against her neighbour. As we left we saw the main restaurant rooms were pretty much empty with ample space. Astonishing. Food was good as always, just ruined by the experience.

I have to assume this long standing institution is under terrible new management. What was once an old school, classy establishment with a family feel is now cheap and overpriced with wait staff hardly paying any attention to the customers. Quality of food has gone down, portions have shrunk and the prices have gone up. This is a real shame as it has been a favourite for many years. Hopefully they will come to their senses and go back to their roots.

Nothing to do with an Italian restaurant, food purely adapted to English customers! Low level kitchen staff (the pastas were completely untied) …….I will definitely not go back! The menu is truly old style! Get updated, go to Italy to see new dishes or hire experienced Italian chefs!

I was quite surprised by the number of positive reviews, mostly from people who aren't Italian. Perhaps that's the strength of this restaurant—it has managed to attract a clientele and flavors that, however, have little to do with authentic Italian cuisine. In fact, it feels like a typical restaurant catering to English tastes: very beautiful on the inside, but you don't eat with your eyes. I ordered a pasta with stracchino, which was rubbery despite asking for it al dente. In general, the truffle pasta was drenched in truffle oil, far too oily to enjoy. That said, the atmosphere is lovely, and the place seems to attract an upscale crowd. Unfortunately, the food doesn’t match the ambiance.

It's a bit pricey, but worth the money, celebrating a birthday, lots of tables filled, book a table, great staff and lots to choose from..

It seems that the real secret to this restaurant’s success is its ability to cater to people who care more about the look of the place than the quality of the food. It’s the perfect spot for those who want a ‘nice’ atmosphere but have no understanding of authentic Italian flavors. The interior is undeniably beautiful, but let's be honest—you don't eat with your eyes. I had a pasta with stracchino that was embarrassingly rubbery, even though I specifically asked for it al dente. And don’t even get me started on the truffle pasta—it was swimming in truffle oil, so drenched that it was impossible to taste anything but grease. It’s clear this place is designed for British looking for an 'Italian' experience that’s far removed from the real thing. It's pointless reviewing this place. It's the BEST. Marietta and Fabio are the classiest of hosts, GREAT staff, consistently excellent food, full of locals and ( despite that ) It's fun ..covered terrace if you don't mind loud, indoors if you do. Go there and help them increase their vast wealth ( held in lire).

I have been to this place many many times with my partner, the food is always really really really good, one of the best Italian places in London Hands Down, from service to food the all experience. ; last night it was different. Waitresses all very nice , but you could clearly see that they were overbooked and that reflected, on service, food , everything. The food came very late we had to ask 2/3 times for update, and when it arrived it was average at most , pasta was super dry, undercooked; at at the end the way they tried to give a discount for they poor service, was not appreciated!! the waitresses who were serving us would not receive the tips instead of offering a discount on food or something else , That had got nothing to do with the poor waitresses , they were all very nice and attentive. To me this was all poor management ,

Started great but the cold main courses took over an hour despite several attempts to get them served . Then except two pasta dishes they where cold . It turned a celebration very sour . After 40 years of great food and service it’s over . They seemed to have no way to solve their issues and certainly they are not sorry . Maybe because my party was of mixed ethnicity .

One of the best places in London for Italian food, hands down !!!!, I have been eaten here many times with my partner. But last night, very average with service and food!, poor experience unfortunately. The waitresses were very nice, however they were overbooked, and that reflected on our experience like a snow ball. the food took so long to come we had to ask for 2/3 times, when it arrived, we were no longer hungry, that we took most of it takeway. ( 4 dishes ), from. what we ate, the pasta was undercooked and super dry!!!!!. And to top it up the experience, when they offered discount, they suggested to have the service charged removed from the bill, which means the waitresses that were serving us would not receive their tips instead of offering to discount on food or even offering us a drink for free, nothing, very very disappointed !!! Really poor quality of management, shame !

This restaurant is absolutely amazing. The food? I had an orgasm eating it. The wine? Refreshing, perfectly fitting the taste of the delicious pasta. The desert? 10/10. If you’re in Zadar and wonder where to eat to have good food, good wine with good prices, go there. Also the staff was very very polite. One waitress complimented my girlfriends make up <3 love that! „la famiglia“ is definitely my favourite restaurant in Zadar!

This Restaurant 10 years ago was one of our favourites. Sadly they have crammed hundreds of tables into a small area. It is now incredibly noisy with conversation impossible. Also the staff are so busy that they have no time to be charming and friendly. The food is also not good, our liver was grossly overcooked despite asking for it to be pink. We will not be returning.

I was there 1 month ago with my girlfriend, i felt embarrassed because one of the stuff guys the (manager) i think, Portuguese speaker, stared at my girfriend and didn't move his eyes for a second like he never saw a girl in his life. I felt felt very uncomfortable. Despite this the food was amazing, delicious as in my regione.

Italian restaurant with many years of experience. The food was very good. We ordered some starters and enjoyed each and every one of them. For the main course I ordered some spaghetti carbonara and they were very delicious, although a little weak.

Such a classic, family-favourite restaurant. Waiters are always extremely attentive and friendly, and create the joyous atmosphere within the restaurant. Lively and loud restaurant, making it feel like the place to be. The food, of course, is spectacular: ordered the pici al pomodoro (which was so fresh), the tuna (which was beautifully cooked), and seafood spaghetti (which was a perfect blend of seafood and tomato flavours), spinach and broccoli. Homemade cannoli were the perfect end to the meal. 11/10

I was very happy we have finally booked the table in La Famiglia. I wanted to order everything from the menu, so many beautiful dishes, couldn’t decide. We chose bruschetta and sliced raw tuna as antipasti and for mains we got carbonara and tuna steak. Starters were very good, nicely served, rich in flavour. Both mains were a big disappointment. Carbonara was very watery. Tuna steak was cold and raw and I asked for medium. I sent it back. My partner finished by the time it was brought back done better. We didn’t feel like having desserts. The wine was lovely though, staff friendly and attentive. However, you can definitely dine better for £150.

I took my partner to this restaurant for his birthday. It was possibly the worst experience we had ever had dining out. The food was appalling and our waiter was arrogant and surly. We were so disappointed and swore that we will never eat in this restaurant again.

Unfortunately on this occasion I was really disappointed with the service, it was inattentive and at times rude. Food was mediocre having been previously blown away on multiple occasions years ago. A genuine shame.

Maybe Tuscan food just isn’t for me but the supposedly house speciality brick cooked chicken lacked any kind of flavour and for the price, only serving it with two tomatoes seemed farcical. The starter was nothing more than two lumps of cold cheese and neither of these courses could be saved by a nice enough lemon sorbet. Ultimately the atmosphere of this restaurant is its saving grace a genuinely authentic Tuscan ambience and I imagine on a sunny day the retractable roof improves this further. Unfortunately this was let down further by inattentive service despite the hoards of staff and the mains taking around an hour 20 to arrive! A place with lots of potential and a pure Tuscan experience but not one I could recommend given the ludicrous prices and service speed

Lovely eatery, really enjoyed eating there, it was like being somewhere in Italy! Lovely staff, good food although price is on the high side! A good experience nonetheless !

Good to dine with friends and family. Authentic Tuscany cuisine, nice ambience, good service, kids friendly (they have high chair, kids menu and tiny cutlery) Highly recommend this hidden gem place to everyone!

I was nervous that this place wouldn’t live up to its reputation but it more than exceeded it. Love, love, love. Very sweet restaurant, great atmosphere on a Saturday night. The most lovely servers and excellent service - though I would have appreciated more advice with dish recommendations. I had the clam pasta with gluten free spaghetti - thought it was okay but nothing special. However, the other two really enjoyed their dishes. Good wine selection. Will definitely be back!

La Famiglia is a classic and trusted family restaurant which we have been coming to for years to celebrate family birthdays. I would highly recommend is for ambiance, delicious food and the highest quality service.

We went for lunch at the weekend. The starters and main courses were very good. The desserts were poor, we would not order them again. The back area was very noisy as it filled up. Initially the service was good, however once the restaurant became busier the service level dropped considerably. The dessert plates had not been cleared when the bill arrived and they had the cheek to add 15%! service charge. If I'd been with just my wife I would have told them to take it off.
