La cueva está justo al lado del mercado - lugar peculiar de Borough con asientos en el interior y el exterior. Buena comida a precios decentes. Puedes tomar compartir platos combinados o comida caliente.

went there had to order drinks five times - then had to order food three times ! everyyone was charming but no one took responsibility -for instance lamb arrived as main course then spinach half an hour later and lamb dish finished - when challenged staff was told "hey man- this happens !", but couldnt understand why i said i wasnt paying for spinach ! It has so much potential but run by a bunch of chancer/ rich kids / spoilt brats who seemed to be more working there for fun and getting drunk than serving people ! - could be great but service sucks !

We were just about to go down the steps from London Bridge to Borough Market when we peered over the railings and spotted the secluded sunny terrace of La Cave below us. There was a very comfy - looking sofa under a parasol with our name on it ! We only wanted a cappuccino but lingered for an hour as it was a fab quiet spot tucked away from the hub-bub of London just a few feet above us . Friendly service, great coffee ... and if you looked up, a fab view of The Shard.

A nice cosy place very close to London Bridge. Fab amuse bouche. Goat s cheese salad at £6 is very reasonable, not mind blowing but good. Duck breast with stripes carrots was overcooked when I asked fo rose. Otherwise great service from Mathieu and Benjamin. Bit slow to start with from the kitchen but then it is better.

On that sunny Thursday, my wife and I were visiting Borough market and by 11am we decided to get a good coffee. We found that place and its wonderful terrace exposed in the sun. While we were enjoying our coffee and chatting, hanger starter to get us. Shall we move? Yes probably, we didn't come to the UK to eat french food.... Actually, when our neighbours received their plates, we changed our minds because it seemed gorgeous. Plus the staff and chill atmosphere were very pleasant. So we decided to eat there and chose the 2-courses lunch menu. Really nice and fresh food, good bottle of wine, friendly staff, we were at the top. But arrived the moment when you need to ask the bill... I was quite afraid to have a bad surprise. It was not cheap, but i would have expected the bill to be far higher given what we received. We had trusted the waiter for the wine selection and he picked us a reasonable bottle in terms of price but it was perfect given what we had ordered. Those guys know their job. I would definitely go back there next time I visit London and recommend that place to my friends.

Went here with some friends for a few drinks after work which turned into a bit of a long one! Very well looked after by Benjamin, keeping our wine topped up and making us happy. Ordered some nibbles and was disappointed by the size of the portion of chips but they were good enough. Will hopefully be back there as it was a lot quieter than some of the other places in the area.

We live in the vicinity and we thought it might be a good idea to check out this restaurant which is under the steps in southwark area. Walked in on a Saturday night and there were a few couples. Looking at the menu I felt it was one of those places that over promises and under delivers - not cheap prices but felt the prices were going to misguide us into believing we were going to get amazing food. Debated whether we leave (after having being seated) and walk to oxo tower where the food is consistently good but then decided against it! Ordered the lamb cutlets, sea bream and boeuf for mains - lamb cutlets had a weird green coconut sauce with it which didn't make for a satisfying match as I was looking for a punchy red wine based sauce. The cutlets poor things were overcooked and so was the boeuf. Sea bream seemed left on its own when I almost imagined it sitting in a broth. They forgot to bring our sides and after we reminded them, we had already finished our main meal and they mumbled something along the lines of we will sort out something for dessert. Below average main, we ordered expensive wine which wasn't good and then desserts which were below average - they took £5 off for the mistake of forgetting the sides. Will I go back? Definitely not.. Feel ripped off and wished I'd listened to my instincts!

We booked a table for a Christmas meal at 6.30pm in late December. The restaurant asked us (a party of eight) for a pre-order which was sent in the afternoon. We arrived at 6.30pm, were served some wine and bread and waited....and waited....and waited. Eventually we asked where the food was and someone came with some menus. We advised that we had pre-ordered and a look of blind panic appeared on the waiter's face. We were told the food would be 5 minutes (it was 7.15pm by now). The starter arrived at 7.30pm (long 5 minutes). This was the start of a battle for service. The meal finished at 10.30pm. Great food but frankly we were so hungry by the time anything arrived a burger and chips would have seem haute cuisine. Never again.

I've always hated pigeons in London, and now I have another reason. The 'pigeon' I was served, as part of the £60 NYE menu was bitter and disappointing. Not only that, but the ambience was shot, the staff were slow and looked like they didn't want to be there and they were playing two different types of music: Country and Western in one ear and Black Eyed Peas in the other. It was a blessed relief to get home and listen Gary Barlow. Additionally when we tried to pay, they appeared to ignore us.A real shame, as we had been there for a previous NYE and really enjoyed our meal. Standards have definitely slipped.

We dined here on a Thursday evening. Not particularly busy, but we didn't feel conspicuous. The service from the staff was first rate - excellent explanation of the dishes, and happy to recommend a wine to accompany them. The food was pretty good, although don't go here if you're a greedy so-and-so expecting to gorge yourself - the portions are not large. By London standards quite good value. I would visit again.

We ended up here solely to escape a heavy storm and were very pleasantly surprised. The service was very good, attentive and unrushed. There was a hint of aloofness at the beginning but the waitethis rmed up as the night went on (or the excellent wine took effect!).The food was excellent and great value. Wines were a touch in the pricey side though. There was a mix up with one of our orders but the staff dealt with it very well and were very apologetic. They removed the charge from the bill too, which was a good touch. Was surprised reading some of the reviews the next day and would definitely come back and recommend to others. Went with some colleagues for a leaving drink after work. The place is nicely situated near southwark cathedral and is a little oasis. Pleasant seating both inside and out, and an extensive wine list. But for us the good things stopped there. The service was not good and a bit slow. There is only table service and every drink has service charge added. This makes it a very expensive place to go if you just want a few drinks. To be honest we thought it was a rip off. The service certainly did not warrant a tip of this size. I think when these places do this, it is because if they relied on tips with this sort of service, the waiting staff would not earn much at all.Definitely will not be returning as there are many much better venues in the local vicinity.

Admittedly it was a busy Thursday night on a lovely summer's evening, but the shambolic service provided by the waiting staff was beyond belief - the worst service I have ever had the misfortune to experience. Service was extremely slow and haphazard - if you managed to find a member of the waiting team who could be bothered to take your order (even when they had nothing else to do), only half the order would arrive after an extraordinarily lengthy delay - so much so, half of our table had nothing to drink for the best part of an hour (the beer and water just failed to appear). To top it off, when the main courses arrived, the waiter managed to cover one of our party with a lap full of the blood and meat juices from a steak, without even a hint of an apology - truly awful service. This is such a shame - it used to be a lovely restaurant - not sure what's gone wrong, but until they improve the service, seriously suggest you give this place a miss.

I was there early, around 12.30, for lunch and was able to choose a seat at a table with my back to the wall on a sofa like chair. It was sunny, and in the shade of a huge sycamore tree right outside the cathedral so the setting could to have been better. Unsurprisingly, every seat inside was unoccupied as it was a glorious day . Within an hour every seat outside was taken, some in full sun, so get there early or eat late after the crowds have gone. £15 Prix fixe menu was excellent, filo pastry with aubergine and goats cheese starter, sea bream and roasted vegetables main course, both lovely. Wine is expensive and tere is no middle ground between a small 125 cl glass and a 500 cl carafe. I would have had a large glass if it was available. Service was attentive and there appeared to be more than enough staff .

We popped in here for a bite to eat on a sunny Friday evening. They didn't have any free tables outside, so we asked if we could have a drink inside whilst we waited for one to become available. We were told there was a queue but it shouldn't be more than 30 minutes. However, once we were inside it took a long time before a waitress came to us. The drinks we ordered also took a long time to arrive, and when they did the order was wrong. There was another long wait before the second attempt turned up. I then began to realise that tables were becoming free outside, but no one inside was being shown to them. It looked like new guests were arriving and being seated straight away. I finally manged to attract the attention of a waitress to ask when we might get our table, and after a quick check she said one was available straight away. Once outside we - guess what - had to wait a long time for menus, a long time to order (several waiters and waitresses glanced our way, saw the menus on our table, and then did nothing) and even longer to actually get the food. The food itself was fine. Although we had ordered a sharing platter, which wasn't very big. Annoyingly it had one of everything, and seemed to have been designed as the exact opposite of something to share. Perhaps most worryingly, when the time came to pay they included service automatically. I don't necessarily have a problem with this, but when I said I wouldn't be paying it the waitress simply said, "ok". No one asked why. Perhaps it's a common request there. All in all, we spent several hours sharing one small plate of food.

We found this place by accident as we were looking for somewhere to have lunch before going up The Shard. The courtyard was a shady haven on a hot, sunny day.I ordered a Perrier and was a bit surprised when the waiter came back and said they'd run out. I asked for something else and twenty minutes later had to ask another waiter for the drink. There weren't many food choices on the menu which was a bit of shame. I went for a simple choice - Croque Monsieur - but couldn't have it as they'd got no cheese! Given that the place is next to Borough Market, how difficult would it have been to go and buy some more?We then ordered more drinks and after another long delay, our server came back and admitted that she'd forgotten what we'd asked for. Not good! All in all, we were a bit disappointed with the experience, but the food was good.

Small courtyard respite below the London Bridge adjacent to the Southwark Cathedral and Borough Market. The outside wine bar menu was quite nice in pairing with the wine and ale list. Plenty of outside noise flows into this off the path courtyard but quiet in terms of bankside foot traffic. Try the charcuterie offerings. Next time we visit, we'll focus on dinner fare. We chose this restaurant as it looked nice and it was a warm summer's evening so it was lovely to sit outside - something one doesn't often do with the British weather! We stood waiting, trying to catch the eye of someone to allocate a table. We had to call for the waitress to take our order. She offered water which we accepted but never got it. Had to wait at least 20 minutes for the food to arrive - steaks which were grisly and never worth the £19 charge. We had to ask repeatedly for the bill which eventually arrived, and 12.5% service had been added (what service?) We waited for the credit card machine, but in the end had to go into the restaurant to pay. Waiters/waitresses were pleasant enough but seemed to have a poor command of English.Very disappointed and felt ripped off.

Have been going to La Cave for about 8 years. Always a favourite until now, used to take every visitor there for fantastic food, good wine and excellent service. It seems management has changed. The decor though not radically changed has altered enough to make a disappointing difference to the ambience. Most disappointing were some menu changes and quite obvious price changes. The seafood "sharing" platter wasn't even enough for 1 person to have on their own, let alone with another, and was seriously overpriced. Though on the whole the new staff was friendly, one couldn't manage a smile and the other was downright stroppy.I am sorry to say I will not going again.

Booked for a lunch. Decor after the recent refurb was good BUT... standard glass of wine for £6+ you get 125cl - the smallest glass in London. Absolute rip-off. I had the beef and ordered medium but came more well done. Wasn't able to digest this cow and most of my meal had to be swallowed in large chunks due to its toughness. All in all a shame as this could easily be better but for £64 for starter and main + coffee and one drink each, better value at the Pizza Express next door.

I've visited La Cave several times in the last 5 years and last night will be my last. About 6 months ago I ate dinner with a friend and the speed of service was painfully slow. I wrote that off as a bad experience, as the standard of food was really high for the price band. Last night however, with a full restaurant, we were made to wait 15 minutes to order, 30 minutes for starters and and hour for main course to arrive. Apparently disinterested staff, and not enough of them, is a fatal combination. Also, they are all French nationals which may be a nice touch for a French restaurant but I wasn't convinced that their level of English was sufficient to take an order accruately. The quality of food also dropped a notch on this visit. Disappointing "Crusty Egg" starter and an average fillet steak- nothing special. Side dishes weren't even suggested by the staff therefore we ended up with a pretty disappointing helping of food once it came. All in all, a really disappointing experience for a table of eight people. Won't be going back, which is a real shame because it's well located for my commute.

Went here during our London trip. location: restaurant can be found near Borough market & Southwark cathedral. It is difficult to find it, you can always follow the advertisements ( "fine french cuisine" - this is how we found the adress ). They have a lounge area outside & inside where you try the wine. In the back of "La cave" are the tables. The lights were dimmed for a cosy atmosphere.service: friendly waiter took us to our tables. Didnt accept our coats, ( small detail I know know... )food: we both took 3 courses. I had the terrine of foie gras, veal with mushrooms & the tarte tatin "chefs way." Both 3 courses were a total disappointment. The entree was only 1 piece of foie gras ( 15 pound ) on a piece of bread & pepper. Foie grass was also not of the best quality. The main course; meat was... ( 28 pound ) as you can buy in a supermarket. Nothing special about it, some parts were chewy. Carrots & muchrooms where also cooked... Nothing more to say about it. No extra flavors to be discovered.Tarte tatin "chefs way" was an icecream with apple & a biscuit. Not in any way a tarte tatin... service in the prices is not included. They raise your bill with 12.5 procent.Wine card: well this was good. A very good & large selection. 30 pounds is really the minimum. conclusion; I really feel ripped of. A classic tourist trap. Paid allmost 150 pounds for a 3 course meal with wine. I eat a lot for business in restaurants & this is the worst "french" experience in the last 2 years. So leave this restaurant behind & go to a real michelin - tripadvisor recommended restaurant.

5 of us visited last night for dinner and I was really looking forward to a special meal as had been recommended this restaurant by a friend who went over a year ago.Service was prompt when we sat down and our starters were all lovely. However 4 out of 5 of the party ordered the beef fillet and each one when it came out was overdone, which is disappointing for a french restaurant. I ordered the duck pink and again this was overdone. All the beef fillets were very tough and not nice meat. When you pay £25 for a main course and its fillet you expect the beef to be good quality, espeically as the restaurant is next to Borough Market! One of our party sent her steak back and told the waitress she had ordered it medium-rare and it had comeout well-done. 15 minutes later when we had all nearly finished our meals, the waitress came back out to say her steak was nearly ready and was now cooked well-done! So that was twice my friend had said she wanted it medium-rare and twice they cooked the steak well done! In the end my friend said she wasn't hungry and didn't want the steak anymore as it was too painful trying to communicate with the waitress and we had all finished our meals by then.We had also ordered side dishes with our main course and these never turned up. Twice we asked the waitress for them and she didn't understand us, and the second time said 'Sorry I dont speak much English.' Its a bit of a concern that this restaurant hires people who dont speak enough English to understand when a customer mentions they haven't received any of their side dishes. In the end another waitress brought them out after we had all finished so we sent them back. Neither waitress apologised to my friend who never got her steak or the fact we didn't get our side dishes until the very end when she then decided to say sorry to the table. The manager came over at the end when we had asked for our bill and apologised and said it was a new menu tonight, which isn't an excuse in my book for poor quality meat, over cooking beef and terrible service. He offered us a free apertif but by then we were dying to get out of there so my friend could get some food somewhere else so we declined but asked if we could get money off the bill instead. He gave us 3 glasses of wine and 2 beers of the bill for free, however considering how bad the meal and service was I think he should have given us a lot more that.Really disappointing meal considering how much I was looling forward to this, and definitely wont ever go back.

We used to enjoy this place a lot but not after two bad experiences. We sat down and were ignored by staff for a significant amount of time. We tried getting their attention and eventually left. I don't think we will return any time soon.

We popped in yesterday for a quick drink - we ended up staying for hours, drinking wine, and sharing a cheese board and potted duck. I love sitting at one of the outside tables staring up at Southwark Cathedral - it feels like you're tucked away when in fact you're sitting on the edge of Borough market. Service is attentive but not intrusive, and it's very reasonably priced.

I went to have a meal but the staff seemed so busy so just settled for cocktails.. I was a bit disappointed with the cocktails that my friend and I had which were a Kir classic and A mojito but they did not have the kick or taste had elsewhere. This restaurant and bar have so much potential but I must have been there on the wrong day. We had customers who sat next for about twenty minutes and had not been served and just walked off. The wines are expensive as well... If you are charging these kind of prices I believe you should have excellent customer service.. May give it a second go to taste the food as it looked good on other peoples plates but poor customer service meant we had to give the food a Miss!

25 degrees for the first time this year and every river-front bar or roof top bar have stopped answering the phone as its just another city-worker trying to book an outdoor table for the after school Thursday night drinks. Not La Cave; an authentic French voice reassuring promises me a table outside for 6 that evening. ..Am I lucky or something's wrong... Nope table reserved and there are spare tables! Slightly tucked up in the unruly bamboo hedging and for some reason our chairs had no cushions (acquired quickly from the next table) but mission accomplished. What's more it is table service so the pressure to queue at the bar for twenty minutes and then over order is avoided. Beer & Wine selection was good with what people may describe as small and medium glasses, compared to the local pub but hey its a school night. The waitress's were always floating about, pleasant and efficient. We avoided diner and settled on nibbles, mainly starters including the cheeses - all very authentic. If it were my business I'd make the following improvements immediately ...1) increase the range and perhaps lower the cost of the snacks slightly: it kept us there all night... plus your completing with fresh cooked food around the corner 2) Cushions on every chair with candles on the tables3) Mossie coils - to keep away all flying objects please 4) Free jugs of water when one arrives5) Don't add service to the non food bills - if its good we'll pay! 6) Headroom warning notices and nicer bathroom toiletries - soap etc 7) Service - introduce some Italian / turkish spark into itMinor things but ultimately please don't tell everyone there's a nice quite spot for a few drinks after work when the suns out and you don't fancy standing like a sardine on the hot train home! Recommended but only just a 4/5 ...

This restaurant is tucked away in a great location next to Borough Market and London Bridge - it's a good place for a bit of a break from the busy streets and market. The wine list was good and relatively reasonably priced (for Central London), and we had the three course set menu which had a good range of choices, all were decent sized portions and very tasty food. Certainly recommended for a lunch with friends if in the area.

La Cave is tucked in a nice spot under Southwark Cathedral close enough to Borough Market and the lovely produce on sale there but tucked away enough to be peaceful and quiet. Plenty of seats outside if the sun is shining and very atmoshpheric inside. I had a 2 course deal, my goats cheese starter was lovely. My steak bavet main was so so. Steak was chewy, the sauce though was divine and they do good chips. It was good for the deal I had but had I paid full price I would have been disappointed. For service I'd give 50/50 as the waiter was good but the waitress less.

Came here on a first date and it was a great spot - fantastic, extensive wine list and a buzzing atmosphere on a weekday night meant I'd thoroughly recommend it. We didn't eat here and only drank wine in the bar areaThe service was quite surly and half-way through our evening we were asked to share a tiny table with another couple in the bar to make room; we refused and were then ignored by the waiters for the rest of the evening! Lucky the atmosphere and wine are brilliant...

Beautiful space in the shadow of Southwark cathedral. Wonderful but homely French menu, great service, and an extensive wine list. Very reasonable price for the quality.

I have used La Cave for several years whenever in the area. It is tucked away behind Southwalk Cathedral and Borough Market. The food is unpretentious French as is the service. The venue is intimate. We went whilst staying in the Hilton 5 minutes walk away and were stunned that we appeared to be the only people having lunch. It made no difference to either atmosphere or staff high spirits, we loved it. If you are near seek it out and enjoy.

We had a booking for an area for "drinks and snacks". Some of the group had already arrived and were sat at a table outside, so we asked the maître d’ whether we could stay there rather than move to whatever area was reserved for us. We were told that was not possible, because we had booked 30 seats in the restaurant and "they had been turning away bookings because of us". We explained that there must have been a mistake because we weren't there for dinner, only drinks and snacks. The maître d’ insisted that we were wrong, he insisted that we had a booking in the name of Kirsty (we didn't) and that we had phoned earlier that day to confirm (we hadn't). After we returned to our area outside, we were glared at and generally made to feel uncomfortable for a few minutes, before, lo and behold, a group of 30 or so diners led by a lady by the name of Kirsty arrived. The glaring stopped at that point, but the generally poor service continued. One of our party arrived 10 minutes later and asked if there was bar service as well as table service. The maître d’ said that it was table service only, and that someone would be over to look after us. Several of us sat for over 15 minutes before a waitress came over, not to take our order, but to ask us to pay for the drinks that had been served so far! We placed a further order, one couple ordered a £32 bottle of wine (in the lower half of the wine list, which started from £17/bottle). They were brought the bill with the bottle, which included £4 service charge (12.5%). Thinking that they would prefer to tip at the end when they had actually had some service rather than just been delivered a wine bottle, they paid just £32 on a card. The waitress returned after a few minutes to inform them that, if they wished not to pay the service charge for further drinks, they should order at the bar!We didn't try the food but the wine list is varied and the place is well-located so close to London Bridge station, unfortunately the traffic noise from Borough High Street makes the outside area less comfortable, and the poor service means that we shall never return.

What a wonderful surprise La Cave was! As you can't see it from the main road - it sits beneath QE2 bridge in the shadow of Southwark Cathedral - I'm not sure you'd come across it just wandering around London Bridge or Borough Market, but it's definitely worth seeking out. A small, intimate and dimly lit french wine bar and restaurant with bags of charm and really great staff. We booked lunch and I can honestly say it was some of the best food I've had in long time, anywhere in London. Not cheap, but great value all the same. After lunch we retired to the wine bar area for another glass of wine and coffees but were having such a lovely time decided to stay for the evening and a scrumptious cheese board. Go!

A review of our meal at Rabot on 7th January 2023 - booked via OpenTable in September 2022 . hmmm where to start ... Well as the restaurant apparently closed in September and Open Table elected not to advise us. So as the booking experience was appallingly bad And the meal was non-existent I cannot really review or recommend somewhere I was sadly not able to go can I?! OpenTable asking for a review for the booking we were unable to enjoy was the invisible icing on a non-existent cake.
