La Cantina in Stockport

Nipped in after a visit to the Cork of the North wine bar. The restaurant was bustling and lively Ordered a sharing platter to start and some tapas to follow. All of the food was excellent, the staff attentive and helpful. They provided some great tips on the what was in the platter against our tapas choices. Overall more than happy to recommend and I'm keen to go back.

This used to be our favourite local tapas place in Heaton Moor Stockport. It is such a shame that they have amalgamated it with their other restaurant - Roost. They have incorporated the wonderful tapas menu, that was always freshly cooked, with their Mexican and chicken menu. We dined with friends and chose from the much shortened tapas menu and the food was awful. The patatas bravas was the worst - cooked earlier and reheated - you csn always tell. The rest of our selection was just very ordinary. The food used to be wonderful and it is now not worth sitting down for! We were so disappointed as were our friends. We won't be going back.

My fav place for tapas in Stockport. Prices are super reasonable and the food is just as good as its ever been. Highly recommended

Very tasty tacos plus roesmary garlic bread. Very busy restaurant. Staff were very friendly and hpful.

Food wasn't that great but average. But when my daughter was electronically paying her part of the bill she made a mistake while trying to pay a £3 tip and accidentally pressed 3p but said quite openly she'd made a mistake. The front of house guy shouted" You've left a 3 pence tip!" She explained again she'd made a mistake. He went to the till and gave her 3 pence. It was a very embarrassing experience to witness this behaviour and we will never go back there.

Really fabulous pizza 🍕 tonight! Wood fired with a nice thin base. Staff were polite & attentative & there was a lovely family atmosphere ! Will definitely be going again!

Visited La Cantina many times as we live nearby. This is the second time since the rebrand to 113. Firstly disappointed that we couldn’t sit in the ‘La Cantina side’ as they like to fill up the other side first for staff to keep on top of the tables - I do get it but that side just feels better when you’re having tapas. The food was lovely in the main but what on earth they’ve done to the paprika chicken, I don’t know! I love spicy food but it was absolutely explosive! Every time we’ve had it before it has been mild and flavourful. Sent it back and it was a bit better, but with a hell of an after kick. Mentioned it again and the waitress said there was no chilli in it and just paprika - I was about to explode as I know what paprika tastes like and felt patronised, but she said it was taken off he bill. Just about saved the day, but felt it just wasn’t as great as it used to be unfortunately.

We had lunch on the £15 for 3 tapas deal. When the food was brought to the table there was a really strong smell that my daughter described as like a dustbin smell. It was coming from the whitebait - one small nibble confirmed it was off. This was brought to the server's attention and they apologised. I thought the days were long gone when restaurants served up knowingly gone off food. Not here. If you don't want to see your meal again a few hours later, go somewhere else.

Service efficient without a smile, food no where near as good, buttermilk wings more like a bread coating, half my patatas rancheros were raw, but worse of all they charged £6 for 4 limp DF calamari rings, £4 for 1and 2 half’s of churros and £2.50 for aioli. I don’t mind paying but this was ridiculous! I could not complain as my son and fiancée are not that way inclined but won’t be coming back and as they live in Heaton moor there are now better choices There is no way I can contact them on website so it will be google reviews and trip advisor Such a shame

Not been since roost and la cantina merged had been out for a few drinks decided to eat out and give the place a try. We ordered a starter of jalapeño scratching which were like crisps. We were expecting them to be hand made not poured out of a bag. (They are certainly not a pork scratching). For main my partner ordered pizza as they boast a pizza oven however the pizza was not cooked in this and was ok at best. (The dough was bland and definitely not home made). I ordered the messy fries which were actually good with the chicken tenders which were dry and overcooked. We also ordered a side of coleslaw which was warm as it had been put under the heat lamp with the rest of our meal. The starter did not come I asked the server when she brought the pizza and was told you need to say you want it as a starter. I advised I did and with this she went to take the pizza back to the kitchen. I asked her to leave it and just bring out the rest. minutes later my main arrived followed by the side and starter. The girl whom originally took our order was pleasant however the girl bringing out the food needs some training in customer service and clearly to be told not to blame the customer for their error(ie starter not brought out at correct time). I am sad to say I will not be returning or recommending this restaurant which is a shame as when it was run in two separate kitchens the food was better along with the quality. I truly like to support the local restaurants but this place needs to ensure the staff know how to cook the food correctly.

The food was okay. Our padron peppers (La Cantina part of the meniu) were nice but had way too much salt on them! I still liked them because I love salt, but my husband couldn't eat them. The wings meal from the Roost section of the meniu wasn't very nice - wings were so fatty under that coating and the fries accompanying them were just out of the bag fries that you can make at home. There was no herbs or a bit of salad to make it look nice at least. The kids fish goujon and fries meal was nice, but it didnt include any drink. Overall, we might try this place again but probably would order of the Roost menu. Service could I prove if there was anyone to come and check if everything was okay. Unfortunately, noone came to check in us and we even had to go and try to find someone to ask for the bill.

The worst welcome I think I've ever experienced. Walked in on a Tuesday at about 1.30pm and the place was empty other than 2 tables of 2. We asked for a table for 2. Was shown to a table right next to one of the tables of 2 that were already eating so it was cramped. Moved over to the next table which was a table for 4. Waitress comes marching over and says 'Can you not sit there & sit on the other table for 2?' We did but once again this was right next to the other table of 2 that were in eating. My wife & I literally looked at each other and said we'll go. It was a Tuesday lunchtime so not sure why this waitress was expecting a sudden surge of guests. Said to her as we walked out that it was ridiculous & unwelcoming to which her response was we could sit where we wanted. Walked out very confused at the whole situation

I read the reviews on this authentic tapas restaurant that was staff by Spanish waiters/waitresses and couldn’t wait to try it. I was disappointed to learn upon arrival that there are 3 different restaurants there now. Instead of tapas we had a pizza as we could see the oven which was nice but not what we wanted. We felt like we’d been robbed, and brought to this restaurant in false pretence. They should remove the old reviews as these are what made me visit, I won’t be returning. NOT A TAPAS RESTAURANT! Pizza place that does tapas so the customers that come for tapas in error aren’t too mad and they still sell food!

Been several times to La Cantina at 113 and I've never been disappointed. Food fab, service very good. Definitely worth a visit.

Worse tapas ever been too. Food was raw, mushrooms wasnt cooked, steak was like jelly & everything was tasteless! We went for a date night & was in & out in 30 mins was absolutely gutted to be honest. Tabels was really sticky too. Staff was lovely but that's about it, although I told them about the food and just said oh sorry didn't take the raw dishes off the bill. Will NOT be recommending or returning. The chefs was only about 18 so clearly no experience in cooking.

It had sticky tables raw food that wasn’t done that well at all. The customer service was shocking the manager the one that’s on the chubby side she was gobby and had awful attitude

Lovely little tapas, food was perfect, plenty of choice and very tasty. There is a special board also. Staff were great and friendly. Try the sangria it was lovely. Enjoyable evening and hopefully back soon.

Wonderful Spanish restaurant in Heaton Moor. A great menu with most of your favourite tapas dishes. The food was really nice and hot when it was served. The staff were lovely. Would recommend.

Sadly one of our favourite restaurants has deteriorated over the last couple of years. Popped in after the cinema and staff were friendly and helpful, which was great. However, the table was sticky and needed a really good clean - which should be basic hygiene in a restaurant. The food was very disappointing, bland, underwhelming and often not as described. We ate quickly, paid & left.

Used to be a big fan however tried recently and the ribs were cold and other items just ok. Lots of items not available and no specials. Sorry to say will be giving it a miss for a while

First ever visit to this small tapas restaurant. Four of us plus Madge reserved a post cinema table. Shared a bottle of wine and several dishes. All very good from calamari, ribs, meatballs, chicken to salad, tortilla, goat cheese balls, patatas bravas and bread. About £75. Toilets up some steep steps. Some outdoor seating in front but no use on a typical August bank holiday Sunday.

The food was good and the price was good too. The lunch offers are really good value. 3 tapas for £15

Delicious, great service, lovely restaurant/bar.

The restaurant is nice enough and the service was decent considering it was a Friday evening. The food though leaves a lot to be desired. The menu is pretty unimaginative to start with and the dishes themselves are far from memorable. It doesn’t get much more exciting than patatas bravas or morcilla (black pudding). The gambas were far too oily and should be avoided. If you’re after decent tapas, go to San Juan in Chorlton.

What a brilliant night. We went for our wedding anniversary and had a great time. The staff were incredible, especially Ash and another lady with a french plait (didn't catch her name) They made us smile and laugh all evening. Fabulous atmosphere and reasonable pricing.

We had another lovely meal and bottle of wine here on Friday. A great choice of tapas, the staff were friendly and helpful (especially Ash, who was very polite), and the atmosphere is so warm and welcoming. We will definitely be back again.

Wonderful evening on Saturday (24.6.23) Our orders were taken quickly the staff were friendly, efficient and attentive the food was as excellent and we will be going back very very soon 👍

Arrived half hour early by mistake. The welcome I got was like someone had just died. The girls were miserable & curt, no smile nothing! The food was awful. We had 1 of everything. All tasteless, dry & cold. No-one came back to the table to check. If it was alright. Served 3 slices of dry bread & was expected to pay for oil/vinegar. The speed the food came at, didn't taste or look fresh. was horrible! 40 mins after finishing the barely edible food, the table still hadn't been cleared. When we paid the bill, still not asked if the food was ok & no thanks for the custom. Needless to say we won't be back or recommend it. The only member of staff that was personable, was the lady that moved us from the wobbly table & served the drinks.

I've just read other reviews from recent visits and agree with what people say. I've been to La Cantina several times over the years and always enjoyed it. However, standards seem to have slipped. The service was good but I'm afraid the food was below average. The prawns and spanish omlette were particularly bland.

Service and the staff were great, lovely friendly team. However, the outside area could do with some attention. There was boxes and rubbish stored at the side of the building which wasn’t great to look at and the chefs/ staff smoking at the back door was a bit off putting. The food was really poor in my opinion, lacked in flavours and just not a great standard of tapas which was a real shame as I expected better from the reviews. The wine however, was lovely…so maybe just a drink there next time.

We haven't been in a long time so we decided to go again. The service was lovely as was the atmosphere. The food was pleasant. We would say that there was too much honey in the chorizo dishes. Far too sweet. Sadly, the toilet facilities were dingy and in need of repair. Only one choice of zero alcohol beer which is becoming predictably boring in restaurants. If we want tapas again, we would go elsewhere.

The food was honestly so bad, small portions and came out cold. For the same money you can go to bar San Juan and eat like a king. Don't waste your money here

Disappointing first visit to La Cantina. We asked for table to be cleaned, it was stcky. The chicken+chorizo in red wine was swimming in oil. Waitress started clearing table while we were still eating, and although our food was generally okay, overall it was overpriced for the quality.

We went on Saturday and could only book for 9:15. When we arrived it was clear the staff had a long shift and we had to order quite quickly which was fine as the kitchen was closing. The staff were great and the food tasty as always. The person who brought us most of the food was great and nice to chat to (she had cool piercings) and the rest of the staff were lovely too despite being near to the end of a busy day!

Popped in for lunch after a bit of a sad and stressful morning, having never been before. Mark was most attentive, found out for me what foods were gluten free and was lovely and helpful. The food was amazing and Mark serenaded someone behind us for their birthday and really cheered us up! Bonus points - the neighbourhood cat Barney turned up and made the whole experience 11/10. Thanks so much! Can’t wait to come back again.

We had small plates ( a sort of tapas) the food was lovely but expensive for what you got. The drinks were the same price as Manchester bars. The staff were really nice and friendly.

It’s such a fabulous place. It’s busy and lively but you don’t feel rushed. Really lovely atmosphere, great food, plenty of choice, absolutely wonderful staff. Never had a bad time/meal here . So lucky we have this in The Heatons .

What a lovely gem of a place. Met with a friend for lunch catching up over many dishes of delicious tapas - really authentic flavours and reasonably priced, we ended up re-ordering the calamari and the chorizo in red wine plates as they were incredible. I like my hot drinks extra hot and they made sure my hot chocolates were piping.

Tapas are very small! But well I come from Spain, where tapas in my local area are for free with your drink! Quantity could be a bit more generous for the prices they have! Drinks menu have plenty choices, I like the sangria and the variety of gins that they have!

When I visited la cantina for the First time four ago, I thought it was a fantastic addition to the heaton moor dining scene, it's still but a bit tired - the menu is largely the same, not much creativity on show, and since 4 years ago the service is often a let down - just not attentive and on the ball - definitely an area for improvement. Dropping it down a star - if I could give 3.5, I would. Foods still good.

Such good food. Very welcoming staff. Great caramel churros and super sardines. I would recommend the sangria. Not too sweet - lovely and citrussy/red wine flavours.

The venue was really lovely and I enjoyed being in the restaurant; however, the food was really disappointing and seems hugely expensive for what you get. For instance, the meatballs cost £7 and you only get 4, the ribs also cost £7 and the glaze tasted like a shop-bought bbq sauce and the manchego comes in huge chunks making one question the quality of the product. I would come here again for a drink but I wouldn't recommend spending your money here if you’re looking for good food. Also, a waiter lingered by our table when we moved outside and made a joke about us ‘not running off.’ I don’t think we look like the type to run off after a meal without paying, however it felt like we were being watched in a suspicious way. Bizarre!

We’ve eaten at La Cantina a good few times and while the service can be hit and miss, we absolutely love the food - we wanted to take my father-in-law for his birthday as we know he will love it. He is disabled so we gave the restaurant a call and asked if we could book a table outside as he can’t make it up any stairs. We understand there is no disabled toilet but didn’t anticipate any issues booking a table. La Cantina have said no, they won’t book a table outside as they are first come first serve, and they have no way of booking tables outside or policing that they’re booked. After they said about being unable to police the tables, I asked if they could pop a note on a table to advise it’s reserved but was told that doesn’t work, which is a little unusual because it works at other restaurants and bars in the area. I was surprised and disappointed at this, and given the circumstances of his disability, would have hoped they had a policy in place or could make an exception here, but it was a no. I’m genuinely shocked that in 2022 a restaurant of this calibre can’t cater for disabled guests. We’re not in a position where we can just turn up without a reservation in place and hope for the best - we do need to plan ahead. It’s been a very long time since we’ve been turned away from completely being able to make a reservation due to his disability and unfortunately we won’t be able to visit the restaurant again after this - a real shame. I’ve tried my best to present the story factually without embellishment. I’m disappointed that I’ve felt it necessary to leave a negative review about a local business we have loved to support in the past.

Estupendo! Absolutely beautiful food and a lovely setting especially on a summers day! The only two things for me that let's it down is the lack of Ensaladilla Russa and (maybe a plus for most nowadays) there's no smoking area even outside its not allowed... which I suppose is a good thing, just inconvenient for me wanting to reminisc with a cigarette after Tapas pretending I'm in Spain 🇪🇸 😅 definitely worth a visit! Oh and the staff are Brilliant too 👏🏼

Good restaurant, amazing food. They had places to sit outside and inside. The service was really good and the food came fast. The utilities such as the toilet and just the restaurant in general was clean. Would definitely go back.

Visited on Saturday and standards, both in service and food, have dropped in my opinion. Staff seemed stressed, distracted and not on it. Dishes got forgotten. I’ve lived in Granada, Spain - the epicenter of Tapas culture - and the food at La Cantina reminded me of the stuff I would get down near the university: student stodge with lots of cheap sauce on it. I remember my last visit in 2020 being much better. After speaking to the staff they agreed they needed more support. Clearly no shortage of custom/money as it was rammed so no obvious excuse/reason in my opinion, unless not many clients care so much? 🤔

First time we have been to this place,the Olives weren't special,Bread was too thick,Tomatoe salad had no dressing and there was none on the table,Patatas Bravas wasn't that special either we have ordered another of their house special but was NOT brought to the table,they should use better quality of Olives,better read there should be Olive Oli,some dressings and Alioli.i have lived in SPAIN in the Costa Del Sol Area for a number of years. Also they should sereve Gambas Gabardinas,it would be a popular dish.Anyway i hope you improve.Thank you.

Amazing tapas restaurant and bar! Stopped by for lunch, very authentic pan catalán, great quality ingredients. Friendly staff, will definitely be returning!

Been going here for years and the last couple of visits have been a little disappointing! You get seated then wait 15 minutes to place a drink order then wait another 10 minutes after your drinks arrive to get your order placed! Which isn't really worth the wait very average Tapas! It used to be really good fresh tasty ingredients! Not it feels not so fresh not so tasty!

Consistently great food, atmosphere and the staff were as they should be excellent. New menu offerings were great, every time we visit, just great value.

From the minute we arrived the service was excellent. Drinks ordered outside straight away then the staff inside looked after us so well too.The food as always was fantastic, loads of choice and lovely! Can't wait to bring my daughter who is vegetarian and will love it.
