I’ve been here a couple of times and really like it. There’s a takeaway counter at the front of the venue with a scattering of tables to the rear. It’s a bit French theme with brilliant sandwiches and pastries. I went for a smoke salmon sandwich and cream cheese baguette. It wasn’t the biggest but it was beautifully presented and really filling. Nice wee touch with the old school juice bottles as well. It’s not as hectic as others in the area. There’s music in the background that doesn’t interfere with the ambience. The menu isn’t the biggest but what it does it does expertly well.

Excellent service, perfect coffee and authentic French pastries in lovely, comfortable surroundings. What more can one ask for?

usual stop off for a coffee and treat but this time was disappointed the apricot tart had a soft, possibly old, chewy and hard to cut crust. normally a good french patisserie has a shell and crust that feels crisp, fresh and ready to bite into. i find it difficult to experience a great french dessert shop here, as people accept whatever they are served. too much sugar, and too much age can diminish quality. good coffee, fruit tartes, small yet comfy. not as busy as the one on victoria street

More pics & full review on Instagram @coffeescakesandcafes Whilst tempted by a display of gorgeous pastries, sweet treats & beautifully crafted breads upon entering I have to say it was a tad lacklustre. Nothing remarkable, missing a trick to capitalise on the French theme rather than any other cafe you may visit. The staff there were very kind with a quiet yet cheerful disposition. Prices are to be expected for Edinburgh & with the baked items being a bit more premium. The coffee was pleasant enough but a rather small cup size so I was a bit disappointed. ☕ Overall I'd say that this little place is an absolute gem in regards to all the amazing bakes on offer. But as a cafe I feel like it could be improved.

Goede Service. Familiebedrijfje.

First visit & enjoyed lovely food. We ordered the sandwich du moment which was a tasty baguette with blue cheese, bacon, tomato, chicken & honey mustard and also a quiche Lorraine served with rocket, tomato & parmesan salad. It was pretty tasty too but the salad was a slightly basic & dry. Didn’t have one but the pastries looked to die for😍 Service was fine. Place is small but functional.

Arrived at lunchtime, a few tables were taken and one was reserved. However a couple were leaving so we were asked to wait outside while table was sanitised. We ordered a sandwich ,coffee and cake. We were served quickly and I must say the sandwich was big enough to share and was lovely.coffee was nice and my friend had the chocolate éclair and loved it. All in it cost about £16, which for stockbridge area is OK. We found it a little chilly but the door was ajar due to covid.

Good reputation at the other branch. Turned up at 4.03 and was turned away as takeaway only. Suggested they put words to that effect on door but the staff member didn’t seem to welcome any polite feedback. There are better places with better attitudes nearby

This is a decent little French cafe in Stockbridge. Nice coffee and an array of French food to choose including croissants and macarons. Also lunch options but we choose a take away snack. Not much parking outside (busy street) so best to come here on foot or by bus.

Four of us squeezed into this tiny shop for coffee and almond croissants, and we were transported temporarily to France by the quality of the food and the atmosphere. We ate our lovely croissants while watching a steady stream of customers buying bread, exquisite cakes and pastries, efficiently served by the staff. Sadly we don’t live in Stockbridge: if we did we would be regular customers, but we will certainly return when we can.

In the ever-changing but always interesting coterie of Stockbridge shops, set in the usual Gallic style of such artisan bakery and pop-in, sit-down, you're-in-Paris, often cramped establishments, what we were looking for was here in Raeburn Place, No.278 to be precise,👍"La Barantine." Efficiently operated by at least two girls (perhaos of The Auld Alliance) exuding the vague impression of prim but p.c. trainee head-mistresses demanding customer behaviour adherence to the lockdown-release rules ... Or Else. However, my wife and I were won over by their fare, their manners and their modus operandi. Coffee and Croissants were baked, served and duly first class. For gourmet cake lovers, their selection was lovely, varied and vast. Our bill was both as expected and delivered with charm. 💕 We shall seek to return in summer. I did look up the name and found it baffling but somehow reasonably appropriate: Vis ... No one seems sure what la Barantine means. ... It certainly is the name of an aristocratic family; also some dwelling places in France ... and an asteroid.

You would think small cafes would be lovely. Well not this so called French café. My partner and I ordered some pastry and a coffee but at our table we only had a very uncomfortable stool. So I wanted swap it with a chair from the table next to us . ‘ while I was doing that I was shouted at by staff “ don’t move the chairs” so I put the chair away. I asked this rude girl if they have a chair so I can rest my back but this young and rude lady couldn't help for my “ my complicated request “ so I guess she asked help from her manager. She asked me what I wanted to do. Told her I needed a chair I can rest my back. All she did was to give me the chair was I was taking in the first place . I believe changing the chair is an issue because of the recent restrictions. It is ok but no need to shout at paying customers. Couple of mins later, a customer with a huge black dog came to the café and the girl behind the counter said “ dogs are allowed’ I was shocked. The dog was sniffling the displays shelf, Fleeing , scratching and itching etc. For hygiene point of view it was ok for them to have a dog inside the cafe. I felt like dogs are more welcome than paying customers. There are tones of cafes and bakeries in Stockbridge , do yourself a favor and go to one of them.

Three of us arrived and the place is small, but a server kindly offered to join up two tables to accommodate us. This was a good start. We ordered three pastries and coffees. One of us found the coffee a bit strong but the pastries were to die for. Looking forward to the next visit.

The bakery was a short way from our hotel. The Tartes aux fruits were amazing! The pain au chocolat was buttery, flaky with the right balance of chocolate. The staff were always friendly & helpful. If you want to indulge in excellent baked goods & not worry about calories, this is the place. Memorable & highly recommended!

Dog friendly! Small and quaint cafe. Had a lovely vegetarian quiche, followed by cakes. They were delicious and fresh - really lovely cakes. They all looked so good, I was sad we couldn't try them all. Service with a smile. Would come back.

Lovely place to meet friends in Stockbridge. Friendly staff greet you in French. The cappuccino was good and the pain au raisin was fresh and delicious. Next time will definitely try a French gateau or macaron.

París trata de Stockbridge? No bastante.

A charming little cafe with delicious, fresh food. The vegetarian sandwich was amazing. Just glad I don’t live locally, or I’d be in here most days and would be fat and poor.

We tried this place after we had just come back from Paris and it was like being back! The croissant aux Amandes is almost like the one we had in Paris or at least the best one we’ve ever had in Edinburgh. The croquet monsieur was delicious and a very generous size with a substantial filling! Also liked the butternut squash soup. Coffee is also very good and the girls that work there are a delight! New favorite spot!

If I could give someone a tip, I would say: don’t go to this bar. The drinks are not good (tried both cocktails and mocktails). The “magical” aspect of it is fun, but five seconds later you find yourself having to drink an awful drink :( our mocktails looked like normal sodas, and the cocktails were pure alcohol. Additionally, we went to several other places in Edinburgh where we drank cocktails/mocktails/beer and this was by far the worst and also the one we spent the most money in. Go to this place if you ONLY want to make influencer videos for your Instagram with drinks that have bubbles/smoke, but otherwise are terrible. Only pyrotechnics, no flavor.

Shockingly inept service Long wait to be seated despite reservation Waitstaff didn’t know the menu Server bringing the plates whispered that I gave up trying to hear Then had to asked another server about the wine I ordered Oh, and the dessert? Tasted like it as made 2 weeks ago WARNING - They automatically add 12.5% “discretionary” service charge

Great service, Great food. A must for any Francophiles seeking authentic French cuisine. The set menu for £12.90 is incredible value for Edinburgh. The Restaurant was extremely busy but service was fast and serving staff pleasant .Highly recommend.
