A set price of £43 (plus a 10% service charge) gets you a nice 3 course meal. That works out at £9 for a starter, £9 for dessert and £25 for fish & chips (with peas). £7 will get you a pint of ale at the bar or £7.70 if you order from your table. £29 (plus 10%) will get you the cheapest bottle of Sauvignon Blanc. We’ve eaten here a few times over the past 4 years simply due to there being no competition for miles around. It’s always been decent but overpriced. We ate on a Friday evening and despite being told it was probably going to be busy, only 7 tables out of the available 17 were occupied. The staff were friendly and pretty efficient. Would we go again? Probably, because there’s nowhere else locally. The location and view are excellent, if you go during daylight. At night you won’t be getting any sort of view whatsoever! I know they took some flak in the press for their prices a couple of years ago and reduced them slightly. I’d love to give the place 5 stars and wish them the best but it’s simply too expensive for what it is. Wouldn’t like to see it closed down and derelict though.

Stayed at Kyleskue Hotel summer 2023. It’s a perfect secluded hotel with great rooms and very nice food. Also a nice bar at the hotel. It’s for sure a must stop when doing Scotland. A lot of beautiful nature and deer sights very close to the hotel. Service is friendly and helpful.

An accidental find as we had hoped for Surf and Turf on the bridge but what a find. Beautiful location directly overlooking the loch the restaurant was efficient yet friendly. As a party of four everyone really enjoyed our food. Excellent fish soup started for me, scallops for another and tempura prawns for my wife. Followed by lobster x three and a halibut for myself. All food was excellent and served by a friendly waiter. Great find.

Weird vibe. Arrived 5:30pm on a Monday in September. Only 2 tables in the whole place were occupied. A girl who was eating at one of the tables eventually came over to ask what we were looking for… When we asked for a table for 2 we were told they were fully booked. Having read some recent reviews in the past year or so it doesn’t seem like an isolated incident.

Incredible views, excellent food but lacking in atmosphere (compared to others places on my NC500 trip) and the staff somewhat aloof and dismissive.

It’s all about the setting which is sublime and worth a visit in itself. Of course there is seafood on offer, but somehow it’s not exciting. Nor is it well presented. I left with no confidence in this place and no desire to return. Perhaps the conveyor belt of overnights on the North Coast 500 is what keeps it going and not local trade? My companion lives in the area and we received 30per cent off the whole bill using the locals card for which we were grateful. There were no main course specials. A fish soup with langoustine on top was lacking in flavour and unmemorable. Everything comes with chips. No unfried potatoes were available as a side. Mussels were fine (but it’s hard to mess them up) but a monkfish skewer was pretty awful. Several pallid, tasteless cubes of the fish with wizened mushrooms and huge clumsy chorizo slices lurked beneath a pallid tomato sofrito. Awful presentation. Pub grub I would say. Service was rickety. But who can resist that setting? I can, but for those who risk it, think more of seafood pub than seafood restaurant.

Stayed for 2 nights plus dinner. Our bedroom was lovely but so it should be for the peak season price. Restaurant layout was a bit cramped, not much atmosphere and a bit cafe-like. First night no oysters or mussels for explained understandable reasons, and no seafood platter either night, as was told mussels formed a large part of the platter. At £195 for 2 people, you’d have thought they could have offered up alternative additions to the platter - crab, lobster, herring, prawns, shrimps etc. No oysters and mussels immediately reduced the Starter selection by two choices, yet there were no substitutes added. The Cullen Skink (fish soup) starter was pretty basic; lots of potato and very little (white only) fish. Soup of the Day didn’t vary either night. One was given the impression (rightly or wrongly) that the kitchen was on a tight budget. The description on their website, of the high standard of cuisine offered, was not in evidence; we also saw a Brakes Brothers van delivering one morning…..! The staff WERE all very pleasant and accommodating, but the hotel is ‘very’ overpriced for what they offer, and there are I believe, a couple of nicer alternatives nearby. We won’t be re-visiting.

Sadly booked this restaurant as an anniversary treat after a few days on the road travelling the NC500. Even documented in the notes but no mention of it. Much anticipation all day for amazing food and a treat. Expected inflated prices due to the location but honestly I felt robbed walking out of there and didn’t even bother with the £10 puddings after our food. The fish soup was just a bowl of cream with TWO pieces of fish and hard potato and my monkfish skewers were barely warm. Best meal was the kids meal at £9. But you only get that free if the child is under 8. Even though they were eating the same meal as the table next door. Explain that one!! Food was completely lack lustre so much so we have cancelled our booking for the sister hotel tonight Newton lodge. It could have been amazing but at these prices nothing more than a poor over priced cafe. Final note for these prices I don’t expect my chair to be touching the table behind!

We stayed nearby on our way home to Orkney after a trip around the Highlands and booked here for a treat on our last night. An incredible meal in such a lovely setting. As we turned off the road to head down to the hotel there were several deer around which most tourists would love. I hadn't seen West lager before which is brewed in Glasgow and it was good and we shared wine. My wife had trout and I had a rib eye which was perfectly cooked to my liking and served with proper homemade chips and roasted tomatoes. I had a lemon meringue cheesecake and my wife a chocolate mousse. The place was busy and had a nice vibe. Service was very good and we plan to go back on another trip.

I'm sure the food in this establishment is worthy of its setting but the level of service is very poor. When I attempted to order a meal at 4.30pm I was told that food wasnt served until 6pm. Returning at 6.10 to an empty restaurant I was told rather curtly that they were fully booked. I could have been told that 90 minutes earlier! No suggestion that a table might be free for only an hour. Nothing. So much for Highland hospitality. A once great destination has succumbed to corporate aloofness.

After we booked I looked at some reviews and started to worry but I like to make my mind up and I love seafood so we went and it was fantastic. We couldn't of asked for a better experience, we had Daisy our dog with us and so we ate in the bar.oysters then crab for me and hubby had panko fish and chips. Mine came with lovely bread, chips and salad. The portions enormous and so fresh. The two waiters were lovely and helpful but not in your face and what a spot I would've paid the bill just for the view. Already planning to go back.

Don’t fall in the lobster trap! Stunning location but food average and service slow. seems engineered to extract as much money from folks. Many fish advertised as “market prices”. When the bill came they had charged £100 for a medium lobster. Bill for two with two glasses of wine was just short of £300. A real shame. The place trades on its location and I guess the likelihood that most folks are one off visitors.

Absolutely stunning! The restaurant is in a fabulous location and even though it was raining the view and atmosphere were amazing. The staff are lovely, helpful and just the right amount of attentive. Starters of mussels and scallops were lovely and the chowder was rated first class. For mains the whole lobster isn't cheap but you couldn't get fresher or better quality and it is perfectly cooked. The vension was lovely and the breaded fish was a beautiful thick fillet. Desserts of the cranachan panna cotta were just the right finish to a great meal.

This restaurant is over rated. A family group of. 4 adults drove around 100 miles to sample the food in this restaurant. However, we are incredibly disappointed. The food was disappointing, overpriced and not as described on the menu. For example we ordered lobster ( over priced) but we’re given no suitable cutlery, soup starters with no spoons. Extremely disappointed in the level of service and quality/ quantity of food in what should have been a family treat. We will not be back

Such helpful staff as well- we were cycling the North Coast 500 and arrived utterly sodden on an exceptionally wet day- they couldn’t have been more welcoming, brought towels to sort out the pools which formed on the floor, and we even got our own ‘wet floor’ sign. We have been visiting this hotel for drinks and dinner through multiple owners for over 35 years. It has been almost always excellent value and quality and of course has a view of unparalleled beauty. The hotel was sold recently to the NC500 “inventors” and their Venture Capitalist chums who have tried to position it to appeal to a very upmarket niche. 3 large glasses of ordinary wine and one alcohol free bottle of beer - £45! Ridiculous menu attracts similar ambitious price structure - fish and chips for two and 2 glasses of wine £70. What a shame. The consolation is there are now plenty of tables for dinner ( no need to book in advance) and the view is still free

My partner brought me here for my birthday. The staff brought us complimentary bubbly on arrival to celebrate which was a lovely touch. We had fantastic views of the sun setting over the loch. I had fish chowder to start which was a solid 10/10...

Buoyed up by excellent reviews we were really looking forward to a fabulous meal at this "fish" restaurant. Unfortunately there was little fish available on the menu on the night we visited except fish and chips. The view was amazing but our guest house proprietors...

Lovely location but sadly food was not as expected. Lamb rump was extremely fatty and undercooked. Served with loads of potatoes and parsnips. Wish I had sent it back. Service a bit uncaring. We were not asked if our meal was ok/if we were enjoying...

18 years we've seen many changes but the most recent one shows signs of having dumbed down. One time famous for its langoustines is now serving medium sized prawns which were overcooked. Vegetarian miso noodles were stodgy with very few vegetables poorly prepared. Tomato based...

I visited this restaurant on three occasions. Considering it is the only restaurant within miles you would think that it didn't have to try hard. However this was not reflected in the food or the service. It was pricy but not overpriced when one takes...

We had some amazing seafood on our NC500 trip but this was the best. Ordered the seafood platter for 2 (although there was easily enough to feed 3 people). Crab, oysters, langoustines, scallops etc etc - took us around 2 hours to eat it! Amazing...

Simply awesome. Fabulous food and brilliant service. Amazing. If you want a wine to go with your seafood I recommend a bottle of Reisling.

We ate here last night, 2/11. We believe this is a temporary venue for this fabulous restaurant whilst their other premises are being renovated. We were warmly greeted and seated in a busy restaurant that had a warm and friendly feel. All the food sounded delicious especially the specials. Of the three of us I was the only one to have a starter - the hot smoked salmon tart - delicious! Crisp pastry, tasty hot smoked salmon and rich veloute. My dad the venison which was rich and soft - melt in your mouth tenderness. Whilst my husband a generous portion of seafood pasta - it was tasty, hot and very fresh - he said it was amazing. I had the monkfish special - loin wrapped in Parma ham with scallops. Again delicious! Service was the right mix of friendly and competent. A lovely restaurant serving very delicious food. We will visit again if we are up in Fort William.

I recently had the pleasure of spending a delightful day at Dores Inn, and I still find myself reminiscing about the experience six months later. Nestled along the shores of the iconic Loch Ness, this charming inn offers a perfect blend of stunning views, a warm atmosphere, and exceptional service. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a lovely ambiance that sets the tone for a relaxing visit. The inn has ample seating, both indoors and outdoors, making it easy to find a cozy spot to enjoy the picturesque scenery. We opted for an outside table, and it turned out to be the best decision of the day. The views of the loch were absolutely breathtaking, providing a serene backdrop for our meal. Speaking of the meal, I must rave about the food—simply sublime! I usually find coleslaw unappealing, but Dores Inn's homemade version was a game changer. It was fresh, flavorful, and complemented our dishes beautifully. Every bite was a testament to the culinary care that goes into their offerings. After our satisfying meal, we joined a Rib-Boat journey on the loch, which was an exhilarating way to experience the surroundings. The thrill of speeding across the water, combined with the breathtaking views of the loch and its mythical charm, made for an unforgettable adventure. As a memento of our day, I couldn't resist purchasing one of their handmade crochet teddies of Nessie. It's now a cherished keepsake that brings back fond memories of our visit. To wrap up our day, we took a leisurely walk along the shoreline. The tranquility of the loch, coupled with the stunning natural beauty surrounding us, was the perfect ending to a fantastic day. Overall, Dores Inn exceeded my expectations in every way. From the lovely atmosphere and great views to the delectable food and friendly service, it’s a place I highly recommend. If you're looking for an exceptional day out near Loch Ness, don’t miss the opportunity to visit this gem. I still think about that wonderful day, and I can’t wait to return!

The staff was helpful and very friendly. Even though we slept above the pub and there was a party we managed to sleep there. The room was spacious and clean, classic furnishings, quite comfortable mattress. The bathroom ok. Private parking.
