Kowloon Chinese Take Away in Allerdale

The order was due for collection at 6:15, we got it at 6:40. Apparently waiting for chips?? Everything else had been ready since before 6:15 as we got there just before 6:10 and it was all sitting out, so you can imagine how cold it all was by 6:40. After a blast in the microwave, 5 of us sat down to the takeaway. The aromatic duck was almost inedible it was that salty. The sweet and sour had no taste. One meal got a free fried rice and I opted for the “large fried rice” which cost a supplement so I could share with my girlfriend. It did come in a larger carton but there was less rice in the large than what there was in the regular so what I paid extra for is beyond me. Very disappointing, I told a few friends of the experience and they had all had similar unfortunately. Used to be the best around so it’s a shame.

I moved away from Workington for a number of years and have recently moved back. Kowloon was my favourite Chinese until I went back after 4 years. The quality is okay but the dish I had looked like it had been striped back by an accountant. The chicken was cut very thin and the portion size reduced. The container use to be full but not on this occasion. The price I paid for a wonton starter and main meal for one was simple over priced for what you get. I will give it one more try as it might have been a bad day. If no better I will not be returning as I can get better value and quality in Cockermouth even though it will add 6 miles to my journey.

First time ordering from Kowloon and won't be rushing back. Placed order for 19:00 delivery. Website doesn't say at time of ordering that delivery can be up to 60 minutes after requested delivery time. Order eventually arrived at 20:10 and was luke warm. Disappointed with quality of food for the price. Wouldn't recommend from this experience.

Took over an hour to deliver, I am less than two miles away. then arrived stone cold. Ruined by having to microwave. It's a shame as food would have been good.

Ordered prawn sweet and sour with chips. The Chips looked like they had been hanging around all day . Everything was saturated in fat and got one piece of pinapple in the sauce. Took it back and rang out one of the prawn batter pieces in front of the owner. Never going back again. They said that it was standard to get one piece of pinapple in it !!!. And for 10 quid !!!.

We ordered online a few days before which was quick and easyto do. There is a huge menu and its reasonably priced. It is unusual in the respect that you can order different things as your 'side' instead of the usual rice or chips. I got a salt & pepper chips as the 'side' to mymeal - cheaper than buying a seperate portion. The food was ready at the time specified. There are afew parking spaces outside which is handy. The food was nice but maybe not as good as it used to be, however we've not been for about 10 year.

Love the food from kowloon but they're awful at getting it to you. Usual wait to collect your delivery is 15 mins after they tell you. Tonight I stood there for 25 mins after I was supposed to pick it up. From ordering to getting my food was 1hr10mins and they weren't even that busy in the shop. Joke!!

Lovely food red hot chips amazing never tasted chips like them before in my life and the rest of the meal was delicious go there again and again 20 out 20

Literally loads of staff but as soon as there is a slight queue all the wheels come off. Orders missing food … wait times crazy! That said the Chinese food is excellent. The chip shop side of things isn’t great

I visited kowloon around 8pm for 1 portion of chips. After checking with everyone waiting for orders that i wasn’t jumping the queue i moved to the front. It was extremly busy but the 3 members of staff on the counter never once made eye contact with me or the elderly lady beside me to ask what wanted. She also only wanted chips. After 10 minutes i gave up. Surely drop ins need to eat too

TL;DR: Terrible food with terrible service, chippy with a back room Chinese, old oil and bad order taking. I visited their Workington location (No trip advisor page so reviewing on here) and to start with it was a pleasant enough experience, be don't be fooled. We tried to order their special sweet and sour chicken, which they mistook to be the sweet and sour chicken balls, even though what we asked for was clearly on their menu. There was no attempt by the woman taking the order to clarify what we wanted, she just assumed what we wanted even though we were crystal clear. Once we received the food we left and only realised the mistake once we were long gone. We also ordered a chow mein, fried rice and chips. In regards to the food, it was poor. The chips were greasy and tasted like they were cooked in old oil, they were not the standard Chinese takeaway style chips, but chippy chips, so be aware of that if you ever risk going. The chicken balls, which we were given in error, were equally as greasy and had the same taste of old oil. To their credit, the chicken inside was well cooked and soft. The fried rice was nowhere near the standard of others that I have had. The rice was dry and lacked flavour, the chicken on top was un-inspiring and the minute amount of gravy like sauce drizzled over the top was only enough to save the top centimetre of rice. However, the chow mein was doused in this sauce, it pooled in the bottom of the box once it was empty. The noodles were mushy and the beansprouts were overly crunchy. Would I recommend you go here? As a last resort for a chippy tea, maybe. I would not recommend you at any time order from the Chinese area of their menu, short of maybe ordering a pot of sweet and sour sauce (which surprisingly they didn't mess up).

Ordered the set meal for 2. Shrimp fried rice looked good but prawns tasted of bleach. Sweet and sour pork balls were huge but nothing Chinese about them. Just deep fried sausagemeat with ubiquitous plastic-tasting sauce. Chicken and mushrooms fairly bland and tasteless. This takeaway had been recommended to me. Never again.

I've lived away from Cumbria for over a decade but every time I'm home I ring in a Kowloon. Chips, beef curry, egg fried rice. I've lived in Asia and never had a better beef curry than here. It's always busy and you'll probably have to wait a bit longer than other local chip shops - but it's worth it.

Told a time to collect order bear in mind was an hour from phone call and when we turned up to collect we had to wait over half an hour outside, ridiculous amount of time to wait for cold poor food

Consistently good best for miles, always quick always cooked well, staff always pleasant and efficient.

we are here visting family.they recommended this chinese.we had a variety of curries,sweet and sour,chow mein and duck.all were cooked well and tasted great.we will be back.

Thoroughly enjoyed it !!! Beef curry, egg fried rice and salt n pepper chips. 1 x portion done the 2 of us for a tenner.

This is one of the better Chineses in or close to Workington, very speedy service, reasonable pricing and tasty food.

Food was average. I’ve had better Chinese and it’s not that cheap. Cooked to order and in full view of customers and the place is very clean. The sister takeaway on Harrington road is much better to be honest.

Ordered fish and chips with a large battered sausage, chips and Cumberland sausage and a banana fritter. There was enough salt on the food to sink a battleship. The whole lot went in the bin. Wish i had gone and ordered a bucket to throw up in. Is it any wonder people have heart disease. and to make it worse the banana was like a brick and the syrup tasted weird... to sum it up...salty, chippy. grease, old chips cooked several times, old oil, crap served on paper. Will never return!!!

Best chinese takeaway in the area (possibly ever) especially now they do salt & pepper chips too! Never go anywhere else!

Having lived and worked all over the country, I still look forward to have a Kowloon every time I come home.I've never found a chinese takeaway at the same level - and it's not just because it's the local. No cheap, greasy chow mein or overly sweetened sweet and sour to be found here!!Fish and Chips are amazing too - rare for a chippy nowerdays, nevermind a chinese.

Had a takeaway for four people on Sunday. The portions are always good and the food is normally good too. We enjoyed this.

We usually call here on a Saturday as a treat for tea, the food never disappoints, it's delicious & the place is spotless, you can see them cooking the food.

A good choice of food on the menu. We ordered several different dishes so that we could all share. Each dish was very tasty

You can rely on Kowloon! Food always very tasty . Lovely proper chips. Gorgeous patties. Food always fresh . Spotlessly clean. Can see food being prepared. Fast efficient service . Staff friendly and helpful.

Absolutely fabulous that's why they que out of the door! Always fresh made, the place is fabulous and what's not to like about all the fab staff. Well worth a visit but be warned - you will be back

Después de haber visitado el pueblo a ver la madre de mi esposa teníamos dos para llevar en el espacio de 5 días y ambas eran excelentes. Una orden de teléfono estaba listo en 10 minutos y nos sentamos a comer 15 minutos después de ordenar.

I couldn't find a listing for Hot Wok but as it is a 'sister' restaurant to Kowloon I thought I would both restaurants at once. Clean, friendly and good quality... well worth a visit. The beef and fresh tomatoes are great!

Probamos algunas veces, no es muy bueno. Es limpia y sencilla comida. No la mejor comida china pero/frescura de calidad de carne es buena. Es caro, lleva un tiempo, ninguna entrega. Platos aguachento, carne rallado es mala en general una decepción en vez de una delicia. El pato es aceptable. Los principiantes, nuevo básico. En una ocasión me hizo error de pedir porción extra de cebolla a/curry de patatas fritas orden de salsa que esperar 25 minutos más. No me dicen esto cuando me pusieron fin!

I had sweet and sour chicken Hong Kong Style but was VERY disappointed. Rubber like 'chicken' and partially cooked batter... It ended up going straight in to the bin. Standards seem to be slipping... I'll be giving this a miss for a while!

This Takeaway used to be so good but over the last year or so it has gone downhill fast. The chips are bordering on disgusting. They regularly have a tough outer layer which I reckon is caused by them being kept in water too long. The fish are normally good but prices are sky high and the overall quality is poor. The truth of these remarks can be seen in the decrease in numbers buying there. At one time it was full but these days you can often walk in and it's empty. Needs a rethink in my opinion particularly the almost inedible chips

I have used Kowloon regularly when visiting family and have enjoyed the King Prawn curry with one boiled rice & chips between two of us. Excellent.I went twice this last week and tried the Kong Po King Prawn, Chicken with sweet ginger & Pineapple with rice and a portion of fried noodles. It was so good that I returned on Saturday night for a repeat order!The food is always of excellent quality with large size portions and the service is good even on busy Saturday nights. I recommend telephoning your order and usually they say 10 minutes. Saturday it was 20 minutes. I very much recommend the Chinese food. Not sure about the fish & chips that are also available.

I tried food from Kowloon a few times. 4 times it wasn't nice at all - first time fried rice was properly burned. When I tried it again I asked for it to be not overcooked. It was still very dry. third time I had chicken fried rice. Half of the chicken was the fat u usually cut off the chicken. Horrible. Forth (and last) time I ordered spring rolls. Never had spring rolls so greasy...Service was very good though, but doesn't mean much if they can't get a basic fried rice right...

We’ve been going here for years. Don’t think I’ve ever had a bad meal here except for the time I got something with oyster sauce that I didn’t like, but that was my own fault for ordering it! There is a massive menu of Chinese food and they have an English menu also. The food is always consistent and reasonably priced. They alter the meals for you if you don’t like something, e.g. I have no peas in my chicken fried rice. Its always busy in there but they always have plenty staff on so you don’t have too long to wait. Staff are always friendly. I’m hungry now just thinking about this place.

This is definitely worth trying if you haven't been before. Consistently good quality, clean, good service and value for money. It's also easy to park nearby and they're quick to serve you, even at busy times.

pleasant and amicable staff. Service, quality and choice of menu is exceptional. Would prefer to be able to buy small portions of chips.
