Koru in Newcastle upon Tyne

This is lovely restaurant with a calm buzz off the main streets. There is a very good variety of food, starters, mains and desserts, and a BYOB policy with a minimal charge - £2. Staff very attentive without being imposing. Excellent value for money and well worth a visit.

We had a fabulous evening at Koru. It’s a great spot, not in the highest street but only a short walk from it, making it a perfect local restaurant. Dinner, drinks, desserts were all great - the cannelloni was superb. The staff were friendly and fun too. Tiramisu cheesecake to finish off with. Well worth the calories !

Always exceptional. Fantastic food, service is always attentive but not fussy. So friendly , welcoming and polite. The food is reasonable and always delicious. Really well cooked. And the best garlic bread we’ve ever had!

If you come to koru in south gosforth make sure you order the focaccia with balsamic vinegar; it arrives lights toasted and is absolutely delicious. We also had two pizzas, which were chosen from a unique and experimental menu - although lasagne etc is also available too. The option to bring your own alcohol is tempting too, with corkage being at £2 I believe. To finish, we shared a toffee apple blondie which was rich and flavourful. The choice and variety the menu offers is what makes koru worth visiting. Friendly staff and ambience of the venue were also particularly inviting. Will come again.

Really do not know what this place's connection is with being peaceful. I asked and i was told that the owners like to meditate. Found this slightly odd. Its not peaceful at all and why would a pizza place be anyway.

Visited over the weekend and what a fanatic hidden gem. A group of friends together sat outside with fantastic food and incredible service. Really had the best time and would highly recommend

Koru is a great local restaurant. The food is very good, and the service is friendly, helpful, and usually very quick. I love the BYOB policy. The reason it drops a star (and only half a star if I could) is that everywhere you look and everything you read on the menus and boards promises peace, calm and relaxation, but when full it's one of the noisiest places there is. It's all hard surfaces, so the noise of chat & a busy restaurant doesn't get absorbed. It would help to have calm music, but that too is often loud and bassy. Why not at least have mellow sound tracks in keeping with the promise of 'peaceful pizza'? Maybe some Jack Johnson, or Katie Melua, or Eva Cassidy... in fact anything that doesn't thump as much! It won't stop us coming, we love it, but we'd love it more if it was actually a little more in keeping with the peaceful environment it claims to be.

Absolutely gorgeous food, I had a veggie salad and my partner haf a chicken tikka pizza, the ingredients were fresh and excellently seasoned. I would give 5 stars but unfortunately we had to sit outside, because, good for the restaurant, it was booked out on Saturday evening. The service was friendly and attentive. Highly recommended.

Great restaurant - good atmosphere and comfortable seating. Food was very good. So much to choose from with lengthy list of pizzas. I liked the internal decoration with several dining spaces created with plants giving natural barriers in between tables. Waiting staff were also friendly.

We rang the evening before and were told that they could only take us at 3pm and we would have to vacate our table at 4:30. There was only one table along with ours for the whole time we were there. Food was okay I am allergic to cheese but the original menu showed salmon this was not available. We both had gluten free pizza base and the toppings were minimal and very dry. Staff are absolutely lovely but mediocre food first time there not sure we will return it’s a shame but no atmosphere and could not understand why we couldn’t have a later time

I come to koru often with my family and I am never disappointed. Every time I come we our treated so nicely even the dog is praised and offered a free pup cup and water. the staff couldn’t be kinder they are so lovely and always up for a chat. The food is just incredible and there is so much choice if u want something new or just a classic there is a perfectly cooked pizza or other dish waiting for u. And the deserts are just at good. I have no complaints and will be going back very soon.

Went with my grandma who has wanted to take me here for awhile as she loves it.. I can see why! ..As someone who struggles with restaurants and eating out because of loud sounds and bright lights.. I found it very relaxing here, the wall art and the lighting were soothing and the ambience was calm even during a busy lunch rush. I can't have caffeine due to medication / health reasons and we were unsure on which latee was caffeinated and which one wasn't ..and unfortunately I just can't take the risk. Although I felt like an inconvenience it was purely because my nana had soy milk and they looked the exact same (Which is an awesome barista skill.. they even tasted similar).. immediately the staff noticed the anxiety around the coffee, came over to help and made me feel really relaxed about something that they probably had right anyways ! It takes a lot for my anxiety not to accumulate in situations like this but I felt so relaxed, the staff were great and I will definitely be coming back to this peaceful haven. Pizza was amazing too... Andalucia I think it was, didn't even have any leftovers to bring home. Thank you for a lovely lunch 🙏 A peaceful pizza indeed 🙏

As sceptical as I was about the promise of "Hygge vibes", we found this lovely little spot to be exactly as advertised. Peaceful, relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff, lovely coffee and cake. A 'puppocino' for Meg, and an all round pleasant visit. I think we'll make this a regular haunt.

Very good food. Limited vegan options however, and lots of meat-based dishes for a place that claims to be all about peaceful rest. Also, the playlist consisted of only 3 songs on loop. The loop played through 9 times during our visit. No idea how the staff (who are absolutely lovely) maintain their sanity.
