Enjoyed a fantastic meal here in March 2024. The flavours were incredible and with particular emphasis being on the savouries. Each dessert was sweet however sometimes lacked a strong flavour that I prefer. I am aware that this however is customary in traditional indian desserts. Sweetness is much more important than overall flavour profile. Therefore I do feel that Kona finds a modern balance between the two to make an enjoyable selection. Waiter couldn't do enough to make us feel welcome and elevated the whole experience with his humour and grace. He gave us a slice of chocolate cake at the end of the experience to celebrate my birthday. Thank you Kona team.

Very cute ambience and impeccable service. Truly a pleasure to visit however the quality of the finger foods was mediocre. The sandwich bites were loosely palatable and I enjoyed maybe 1 of 3 of the finger desserts. When seated I was presented with a box of basically cookie crumbs over a chocolate key. Difficult to eat and barely worth it. Tea was very good but for the price of the overall experience it’s a one and done for me.

The food was excellent! The sweet and savory items were a great blend of Indian and English. The scones were wonderful and the cream was perfection. The service was very lacking. For an 85 euro experience, I would expect well timed tea courses. It took such a long time for each pot of tea to come out that we didn’t get to try all the teas we wanted. The servers themselves were very kind but it was just very slow. In addition, the masala chai was very watery and not up to traditional chai standards. The chai paled greatly in comparison to the wonderful food.

I had such high expectations for the Kona afternoon tea at the Taj, given its reputation and feeling like the last Asian in London to try it! I wanted to take my mum and aunts for a luxury afternoon tea experience with an Indian twist as I thought they'd enjoy it more than a traditional high tea. The hotel is beautiful and scenic in the heart of London. So I thought this would fit the bill, combining Indian flavours with high class luxury. However, I came away slightly underwhelmed. A lot of my friends and family had been there before and I always had a feeling of FOMO. There were only 3 choices of tea available: gunpowder (basically green tea), Darjeeling and the signature masala tea. This was really disappointing as Madhus has far more choice. The teas itself were okay, they were served expertly by the wonderful staff. The food items contained traditional Indian sweets like ras malai, gulab jammun, and laddo but with a Michelin style twist which was a nice touch. The portions were generous for six of us and despite the size were quite filling! The savoury items were slightly less (which I didn't mind as I have a sweet tooth!) But the dhokla and samosa were tasty so I can't fault that. Also, I cannot fault the effort of the staff who worked really hard so I didn't mind paying the "discretionary" 12.5% service charge. They were so professional, attentive and really looked after us. When we asked for more tea they responded so fast and brought it out almost instantly. Every request we made was accommodated without any fuss. However the only thing I could not get over was the price. At £75 this was a bit too steep and I don't think you get what you pay for and there are definitely better options out there. It was almost as if we were paying for the name. My friends who went years ago before COVID said it was better back then with more choice and cheaper. I enjoyed my experience and can see why it's popular but I'm not sure if it is inflation or lack of demand that makes it so expensive, and it's for this reason I probably won't go back.

Not worth the price, for afternoon teas in this price range you should get a wide variety of teas to choose from (there was only 3) and live music (of which there was none). Jasmine Desi Afternoon Tea to celebrate the sistahood with 4 girls bday with a group of 19 guests. MERCI MERCI MERCI!!! Ab Fab afternoon tea... Warm welcome in a great atmosphere. Radhika at reservation was very helpful & accomodating! We were offered a private function room for ourselves and as we were a big group it was very nice. Iskra, Harsh, Abi and Bhargav were our hosts. They serve us good portions and as we barely ate (too much chatting :)) we were given boxes to bring left overs home. Everyone at Kona made a great effort to make us feel welcome and make it a special day for the birthday girls. As the treat is quite pricey, we used 2 for 1 vouchers at a discounted rate (15-20% off). Overall we would HIGHLY recommend Kona especially the staff who were wonderful. Maybe wrap the scones in a napkin when brought with the food as they get cold & hard (?). Highly recommend!! Last time we went to Quilon. There also the staff was amazing and the food wonderful!

Overpriced and overrated. 10/10 would not recommend. When we arrived at Kona we were left standing at the door, 4 staff walked past us with absolutely no acknowledgement of us… after about 10 minutes had passed I eventually approached a member of staff who was slightly rude and told us to go wait in the business centre until they had our table ready. We went for the secret garden afternoon tea and the experience was nice… I think it is definitely overhyped, and absolutely not value for money. I wouldn’t recommend trying it, it was probably our biggest regret of our London trip. Food was ok, there was a lot of the food that wasn’t to our taste, the tart with basil and cream cheese just was awful in my opinion. Just be warned that there is a service charge on top of what is advertised, it cost us £182.25 for afternoon tea for 2 people!! I did have a gin which was £10, which is standard… so I thought the bill would be £160 at most, I was disgusted with the price because the service was definitely not deserving of that $22.25 especially as the waitress had forgotten to bring our tea to us and eventually brought it as we were about to leave.

We attended for an Indian afternoon tea which was a birthday gift for my sister-in-law. It’s a very impressive hotel as you approach, somewhat tucked away off Victoria Street. We arrived early, but we’re warmly welcomed and directed to a waiting area where there was complimentary tea and coffee. At the allotted time, we were taken through to a lovely tea room, tastefully decorated with beautiful table features. Our host/server, Bharogav was very welcoming and informative. He gave a detailed explanation of the tea options. We were then presented with beautifully prepared savouries and sweets together scones. Bharogav explained what each delicious item was, and a helpful tip to alternate between savoury and sweet so as not to feel over-full one one thing, or the other. The food was extremely tasty. Full of flavour and delicately prepared. Every item was delicious and accompanied by a lovely masala chai, my first time of trying it (other options available). This was followed towards the end with a light and refreshing green tea. It was a lovely experience, and fantastic change to an English afternoon tea. When we managed to find the restaurant, we were asked to sit and wait which we were happy to do, however, it was then as if we were forgotten and had to remind them we had arrived. The overall idea of the afternoon tea is lovely, however, the experience did not live up to the expectations. Unfortunately, it took a long time to get our tea and considering we were being rushed out after an hour and a half, I’d expect fast service. The sweet and savouries looked beautiful but did not taste like anything special. The savouries were very bland. The room we were in lacked atmosphere and did not feel like we were in a 5* hotel in London. I was left disappointed and unless you’re going for the instagram photos (very expensive instagram photos!), I would not recommend it. I have been to much better afternoon teas in London. Maybe we were just unfortunate in our visit, however, we felt rushed and unsatisfied.

This was one of my top 5 favorite experiences! Absolutely phenomenal. From the time you arrive the host, waiters, and waitresses were so attentive and knowledgeable. The afternoon secret garden tea experience was nothing short of amazing down to ever last detail. The set up for the table, the tea, the food (everything being edible). It’s really a very immersive experience and I am so excited to visit again when I’m in London. Well well well done Kona !

We took our mum for her birthday for the Secret Garden afternoon tea and it was absolutely fantastic. The service was impeccable and added to the experience even more. All the staff were lovely and so friendly. Especially Bhargav who really Made our experience extra special. The restaurant itself is lovely and the food was really delicious. Sometimes themed events can be underwhelming but this was perfectly done, highly recommend as we had such a wonderful time. Thank you so much!

We indulged in the Diwali afternoon high tea and Kona and were not disappointed by any means. From the setting and ambience to the delicious food selection to the extremely friendly Gabriella that served us, this is one high tea that I have to recommend. The treats were extremely filling so don't let the bite sized portions deceive you. I would definitely indulge in the Diwali special again.

This was my 3rd visit. Maybe that's why I found food a little disappointing. Masala chai was not fresh. It looked like it was made earlier and reheat. To me this was more the reason to give it 3 star....expect better from Taj. Service was amazing..we got tea 3 times but the same each time so it's kitchen issue.

I went there for afternoon tea with friends and I was quite disappointed. The food was average. What annoyed me the most was that the staff were quite money oriented. We were asked if we wanted water. As we were having tea we did not feel we needed water, so we said no. Then another waiter came to ask if we wanted plain or sparkling water. We said we did not need to order water. Then a third person came to ask if we were having plain or sparkling water! Also the champagne was not chilled enough. Tea was lukewarm and quickly went cold, so we asked for more hot water. We struggled to make the waiter understand what we wanted. The waiter just wanted us to order different kind of tea. This is quite ridiculous. I know I cannot blame the waiters. They are doing what they are told. But this behaviour makes you look 'cheap' 5 star. Never again.

This is a recommended experience, but it comes with a warning. Why don't ordinary people go to extra posh hotels? Is it because they feel somewhat assaulted by the superior attitude they fear they will experience from the staff? We loved our time at the Dorchester Hotel Grill, but we had to learn the hard way that you need to be assertive, confident and persistent in order to get what YOU want, and not get charged for what THEY want you to have – 3 coffees and 2 waters - £52! Staff - The meeter-greeter was charismatic and knew our family name as we approached - impressive. She was personable, warm and effective. The first assault comes when a huge ice bucket with lots of champagne bottles in. This is wheeled across with great ceremony, and you were asked if you might like a glass. This is your first test of assertiveness. A polite man will ask the ladies and make £100 disappear very quickly. When I asked for the wine list instead, she looked disappointed - I don't know why, as plenty of the wines are priced at over £100. Then we are given the A la carte menu - and you have to be assertive again. You have to actively ask for the lunchtime menu. Irritating. Food - We went because we saw a YouTube review by Greeno - with three substantial courses. Be warned, the first course has changed and the two alternatives are less than overpowering. My companions had the burrata and salad, which came in a high sided bowl and was somewhat of a challenge to get started on with a knife and fork. Beautiful and complex visually, but a little bit bland in terms of taste. My onion confection was a little bizarre. I kid you not, it was a hollowed out onion filled with pieces of onion and the waitress poured around the side… an onion broth. I was hoping for something more French onion soup like, but this was more a the contemporary artist’s impression of the theme of the essence of an onion. The tiny bready cheesy bits on top were worth the first bite but then fell into the onion broth as they were balanced on top of the onion. It made me sad as I remembered all those lovely onion soups in Paris. The mains were an upgrade from the starter. My companions had a straight out of the sea piece of cod with a crust of nuts and clever things and it was a beautiful dish. I had a wonderful large half breast of chicken with tasty skin on, with various sources and, I kid you not, another onion! But this time it was stuffed with salmon and was really pleasant. And the CHIPS - if you could only have one element from the whole meal it would be these extraordinary creations. Apparently they take 72 hours to make. They are like a fine pomme dauphinoise that is in shaped like a chip and then triple cooked. £10 for 6. Wonderful. I don't normally do desserts, but this is where the hotel excelled. My companion had rhubarb ice cream with rhubarb and bits on top accompanied by a rhubarb “McDonalds Apple Pie” and I'm not being rude here. It looked the same and was mouth burningly hot as well. Great selection. We had a matcha cheesecake with a strawberry gel on top that was just about perfect. With a scoop of pistachio ice cream on the side and crumbled pistachio as well. Really nice. And because it was our birthdays, we had two birthday plates with swirly whirly chocolate sauce writing and little pieces of dessert on them as well. Really impressive. If you are into desserts. This is the lunch for you. Wine - We had a Barbera D’ Asti that was OK, but were charged £75 for the pleasure - the cheapest bottle in their eighty page wine catalogue - the Italian Reds are on page 53. The red wine was disappointing for the price. Kitchen tour - when they're not super busy they offer a tour of the kitchens which is worth a look. We spoke to Freddy, the head chef whose name is on the menu and was a delight - armed with all our knowledge from Anthony Bourdain and Jason Atherton, we talked about taking knives home on the tube, working service in silence, shouty and sweary head chefs (that is the past) and were shown the impressive wine collection with single bottles costing up to £13,000 - maybe my £75 wine wasn't too bad after all. Recommended - go in with your eyes open - it is called the grill - the doorman did not know the Tom Booton bit even though it is written on the wall. You need to pump up your assertiveness, and “just say “NO!” muscles” to avoid escalating bills, and keep the best lunch deal for a posh hotel restaurant in London, intact. I would skip the champagne, ask for tap water, and take your coffees elsewhere - £9 for an average espresso is not on. For dessert lovers this is a winning place
