Kokoro in Leicester

This food definitely is not Japanese....more like McDonald's in disguise! 😒 I was excited to see online a apparently Japanese food establishment to use at lunchtime for a hot meal to take away....Everything , which is about 3 different version of the same thing is covered in breadcrumbs and dropped in fat......two dishes not covered in breadcrumbs were chicken and salmon teriyaki these dishes are covered in a high fructose sickly sauce nothing of a true Japanese taste or of any taste whatsoever other than sugar. When I asked why they sell nothing hot that vaguely resembles Japanese food like a tofu dish the server told me British people wouldn't eat real Japanese food....this is insulting and as they only sell high glucose /fatty dishes how do they know customers wouldn't buy healthy Japanese food.....it's not like the food they sell is cheap...massive cost to the customer and the food isnt close Japanese .....it was a vile bowl of over cooked rice and the worse teriyaki salmon I've ever tasted. Avoid ...if you want chicken in breadcrumbs dropped in fat go to chicken place's....at least they are cheaper and not pretending it's healthy or something else. Trading standards should look at the prices and food description and fine this business for lying and deceiving the public.....

Really nice katsu curry but only downside is that not all their food is halal. I also wish they still accepted card but they had a valid reason and most shops in town also only accept cash now.

Being a long-time regular. But I've noticed glaring changes in portion sizes over the last seven or eight months. An elderly lady, who is apparently the manager or owner, has assumed this place, and her serving sizes are, quite frankly, much smaller compared to what I used to get in the past. Most recently, chicken Katsu curry with noodles at £9.95-that's almost a tenner-is actually what I'd consider absurdly costly for a portion size. Particularly with chicken: the meager portions, especially with prices, are quite disappointing for me. I would have noticed these facts and would consider it in good faith that at this time, value for money is not worth it anymore.

It's a really good option when you want a quick bite of Korean food. It's so delicious that I want to go again. I liked the combination of chili chicken and rice so delicious. I hope you prosper more.

Never go here. The chicken was the singular most atrocious thing I've ever tasted - for the sweet and sour chicken he literally just microwaved the display chicken and put it in a bowl. When I complained he told me it was my fault for ordering the sweet and sour chicken.

Service is good but the sushi was very rubbery and was tasteless. The wasabi sauce was awful the worst I have ever had. Had to go elsewhere for quick snack to get rid of the taste of the awful wasabi. Next time I will stick to a authentic Japanese restaurant. On the plus point the staff where very welcoming and friendly just the food was awful that was from all 3 of us that dined there for a snack.

I didnt enter the restaurant I went on deliveroo the speed of the service was insane so its makes me believe my pumpkin katsu probably wasn't fresh I can't complain for taste was quite nice.

The Leicester branch is absolutely appalling and has downright terrible customer service. I used to be a regular customer but not anymore! We received burnt chicken and showed it to the staff (phon and moko- they probably just lied about the name) and they just took the big black piece out and didn’t even apologise - instead claiming it may have fallen from above, but later when I asked them again about it they said it may have fallen in from one of their other items. Also, they behaved like chipotle in the US, when we ordered 3 large boxes they gave us small portions. The least they could do is make a large box actually large! Kokoro has really fallen off, which is sad to see. I’m also yet to hear back from Kokoro about my complaint

Terrible experience. After coming to this establishment for years, it is clear their quality has downgraded. They will serve you cold, but burnt food. Zero customer service skills, and in return for spending over £12 per tiny bowl of noodles you will receive 100% disgusting attitude from the staff. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! (Photo of burnt chicken that I managed to take before the old asian lady took it out and threw it away. Avoid the middle aged asian man with the glasses too)

I was out shopping and wanted some sushi and saw this place the staff was really friendly and the sushi was amazing

Brought a sushi box which was really nice but you're very limited for choices if you don't want avocado 🥑 in all your sushi, 1 negative is they don't accept cash which is ridiculous really. And the sachets of soy sauce for the size of the sushi box isn't great very rationed.

First time visiting and trying kokoro and it was lovely I had the sweet and sour chicken with noodles and my partner had the katsu curry with rice and we both enjoyed it very much I also tried some sushi very nice and fresh but I found it quite fishy tasting! But nice still! Definitely will come again.

I’ve spent thousands here. It’s somewhere I frequent numerous times during the week. But let me say, I will not support a business that doesn’t accept cash.

Been here many, many times but never eaten in. Counter service has always been quick and I love their food. Great crispy chicken and rice combos, love the shu mai, often order the sushi as a healthy side I can nibble on throughout the day. Has to be said, I mostly order via deliveroo - this is the type of food that works perfectly as a take away.

It’s okay, not the best I’ve had. Worth if for the katsu curry or great value for money if you like sushi. But the fried noodles are meh not worth the visit.

Food is always amazing, this was my go-to place for the past couple years. However, portions have now been reduced. I'm not paying 11 pounds for rice and a 2 pieces of chicken. Please make the portions bigger again

They reduced their portions. Still charge 10 pounds per portion but cut up 2 pieces of katsu chicken instead of 3. I asked the lady why this is and she said there is new management and so this is the new portion so she cannot fill it up to the top. Disappointing. Not coming back.

The sushi rice was way too mushy. The salmon and prawn sashimi was good along with the inari. But a huge red flag in sushi is mayo. I’ve had sushi in LA, Tokyo, and New Delhi. New Delhi drowns their sushi in mayonnaise and it’s so disgusting. My salmon and avocado rolls had light mayo on the inside and I didn’t realize it when I looked at the rolls but when I was eating the rolls they tasted off. The rice was too mushy and there was mayonnaise. I’d skip this place if you’re a bit of a sushi snob. Staff was super friendly.

Staff are great. Really nice lady works there. Food is terrible though. The quality of the meat was really poor. I ended up returning it. £9.55 for rice and poor meat is not on. Won’t be going again, despite the nice staff.

Katsu chiken curry is a must been getting the same thing for the last year

The Tofu Katsu Curry was good, portion size was also good. Definitely recommend for a clean, quick and tasty takeaway.

This is the third time visiting a different Kokoro. It is the first time where they wouldn't customise options even though we were the only ones in there. Disappointing as all the other Kokoros had before and we could see someone making up the sushi so it isn't like anyone wasn't available. This happened the second time visiting this Kokoro yesterday, the first time we went at lunch time and ordered a Pumpkin Katsu Curry and a Chicken Katsu Curry, we were very surprised at how much Pumpkin and Chicken we got as other places like Yo Sushi for example only give you a small amount. The down side was that I felt like the curry had a bit of a strange after taste, I have tried a lot of katsu Currys and none of them had this weird taste. A lot of options and it was clean which is why I am giving it 3 stars.

I have been going for many years I was in love with the service, the food and the cleanliness of the place. I understand why the price per serving is rising, but there is less food in the serving. I know what I'm talking about because I was not there for the first time.

Worst food that I had in ages, made me feel nauseous and sick. When I asked for a refund they accused me of lying. They also reheated the food in the microwave which proves that it’s not very fresh.

Amazing! Ive been going here since i was a university student, so a good few years xD and now work at the LRI (Leicester royal Infirmary) Came back from a shift today exhausted, and brought my usual, and the staff have always been so friendly and especially today, i cant stop smiling ♥️ I really appreciate it, and especially a place where i can buy amazing food that suits my dietary needs x) PS: my usual is sweet chicken with any of their sushi, everything is fresh! 100% reccommend!!

katzu currey is delicious, you get a lot of chicken and rice and sauce. always comes hot have never had a bad experience here. staff are also really kind

I had accidentally ordered the wrong thing and as soon as I realised, I told the lady. She refused to give me the one I actually wanted claiming that "it's already been made". Funny excuse because when I came here prior to yesterday, I was given a box that was already made that was on the counter. Needless to say I won't be coming back here as that woman was very rude to me.

Interesting Japanese food concept. A few cold sushi and gyoza boxes in the fridge and a choice of a medium or large box of rice or noodles with juicy toppings. I had the sweet chili chicken rice which was hot and comforting. The lady on the counter was smily and friendly. Recommended for a quick bite!

Went in at weekend for a quick bite. I had salmon sashimi and salmon sushi for about £7.50. My partner had chicken teriyaki with rice , same price. Neither meal was up to much. Both the salmon and chicken were poor quality. I appreciate it's not high end and reasonably priced but there are far better alternatives. I won't go back.

I watched a video on u tube where some chap had a takeaway from here I have to say it looked fantastic, needless to say I ordered what he ordered, well what an absolute let down the sweet chilli chicken was bland very pale in colour the Katsu chicken was not bad the sauce was the only taste in the whole meal can’t understand why only rice my husband ordered katsu prawns and sweet chilli chicken got 2 prawns shocking people please look at the reviews this meal was delivered by delivaroo who also got it wrong they delivered to wrong address my husband had to go around crescent to find him what a shambles

Ordered from here several times over the last year. Sushi is fantastic and competitively priced. The rice bowl + topping is DELICIOUS (big fan of the Spicy Pork) and fully recommended.

Every time i go leicester i go to Kokoro and they never fail. A friend took me there because the food was so good; I have taken friends there also and they loved it. Nothing beats a large chicken katsu with rice and a lemon san pellegrino. I have also tried the chilli chicken and the sweet and sour chicken, all being amazing dishes.

Terrible! How can you serve food at this standard for the amount you do?! Dry, TINY, thin bits of sushi with nothing inside (But a piece of bone I found In a chicken roll) I recommend doing a little work or i doubt we’ll be seeing you around much longer.

The food is great, the service is nothing special for a takeaway I didn't expect alot tho, ordered on deliveroo a couple of times and both times put noodle as I dislike the sticky rice and both time got rice

The chicken katsu curry is very nice with generous portions. The spicy chicken is basically dak-galbi which tastes authentic. Their sushi range is also reasonable. It’s a good place for lunch

Excellent food, the place is excellent to eat in or delivery (the delivery service provided by the apps is not great but that totally does not affect the food quality: the portion size and the price are excellent. It is the only place in Leicester that charges fair for an actual 600ml bottle of coca-cola

The food was nice the services was very fast and tasteful. Would go here for lunch again they have a large selection of sushi and also very reasonable prices. My only issue is that the food was put into a microwave to re heat which just was a bit disappointing but besides that it was good cheap and tasty food

I have visited this place for the first time as my friend dragged me to try it out. Was not super pleased with the food for the price. Such a small portion for the food and instead of the £7 I could have made it myself for less than £2. The taste was not anything special. The seating is very limited inside and was not able to sit down. Probably will not come again.

Not the greatest. Cramped, wobbly tables. Upstairs was closed. No napkins. The food was okay but nothing exceptional.

tragedy! I have not been disappointed for a long time, a woman in front of my eyes was reheating the food in microwaves because she said it was made a long time ago and is cold, not many seats 1st floor of the restaurant was closed, each table was swaying and was dirty, the sweet sour chicken had no pure chicken in it, only half was meat the rest was poultry offal, e.g. chicken heart, I do not recommend it !!

Poor customer service. I wanted to eat in, but they did not let me sit down as they were closing in 3 hours. However there was no notice nor was I informed before placing the order. This was a big inconvenience as I would not have ordered the food if I was told that it was takeaway service only before placing order. The girl on the counter (Megan) said that I should have said I wanted to eat in before ordering (never heard that before) and it was my fault. I was forcefully charged, made to pay and made to take out. It was very poor customer service. I had a sleeping baby in the pushchair and it was raining outside! Wanted to eat-in. Megan was proudly saying she has excellent customer service experience - I really doubt that Megan. I come to this shop quite regularly since the day it opened. I will think twice in the future (there are much more choices now in Leicester city centre) Kokoro management - the quality of your service has dropped significantly. I should give you 0 stars.

This place is always absolutely brilliant, staff are great and the sushi selection is top class

Ordered on deliveroo at 8, restaurant accepts order and shows as cooking for an hour then Kokoro cancel the order! If they couldn't fulfil the order then don't accept it in the first place! Appalling!!

Tepid noodles, greasy, bland sweet chilli chicken and no upstairs seating available so had to perch between the fridge and front door...freezing and uncomfortable. The new noodle bar nearer to the clocktower is so much better - unless you want sushi.

Decent food at sensible prices. If I had one complaint, it'd be that there's no 'small' option - the portion sizes are rather generous and I hate to waste food, so I can sometimes feel deterred from eating there as it's rare that I can finish everything. This isn't to say that current portion sizes should be reduced (good god no!) - rather that a third option, say two thirds to three quarters of the size of the regular, be offered in addition to the current two sizes.

Good portion sizes and lots of options. The fridge selections of gyozas are yummy too 😋 just wish they'd open the upstairs again so you can dine in. This seems to have be closed for a few months now. But the food itself is good quality 👌🏼

I wouldn't be exaggerating when I claim I've ordered from Kokoro 100+ times. I've had to remove a star from my review however as recently portion control seems to be far stricter. My partner used to work here and mentioned they was looking into this however as of late they have completely cut the amount you get per serving, some times as much as half as much sauce and chicken. Truly a let down, used to be a no brainer "go to" for lunch. Now I often find myself having to justify it and even find myself trying out newer chains in the area like Chopstix. Think about your decisions management, you could be harming your reputation with these changes.

Sometimes good sweet chilli chicken sometimes not really good but not bad but today it's totally rubbish...it was my last time what I buy something from them 🤮

Amazing tasty food every time! This time round I ordered one of my favourite dishes and a side salad and a mistake was made regarding my order (I believe I got sent the wrong main). Human error happens sometimes you just can’t help it specially during busy times and going through this pandemic. I rang the kitchen to explain and the lady on the phone was so lovely and understanding! I wish I knew her name to thank her! :( She was so apologetic and with no issues at all Within 10 minutes I had my entire order remade and sent to me! Anyone can write a good review regarding how tasty their food is; however it’s circumstances like these I feel should be more recognised! Wonderful service, polite staff, great experience! Thank you :) Xx

Probably the worst food I've ever tasted. We ordered £30 worth of food. It looked like dog food, tasted like dog food. I din't know how these places get away with it!

I am a frequent visitor of Kokoro in various cities. Unfortunately this time my Sweet&Sour and Sweet Chili Chicken meat wasn't fresh. It also had a little bit of a smell. The colour of meat was also slight different. I had to throw it away!!! This is my first time encountering this and I am hugely disappointed! I will be going to other branches as Leicester one disappointed me and it costed me some money to go to rubbish. I am giving 2 stars but only because sushi was good.

We ordered the sushi party platter for our garden party with a friend. The service and food were outstanding . The sushi was so fresh and fantastic quality. Everyone commented just how nice the sushi was. We have used Kokoro several times before but the sushi platter is exceptional !

Definitely best takeaway in Leicester! Katsu Curry and Sweet Chilli are my favourite:) the staff is also very friendly, especially the lady who served me today

The food is absolutely rubbish. I ordered tuna&salmon set and the Tuna is not fresh at all. I have to threw it into the bin. I understand all business is going through a tough time atm however as a food business the first and most important thing is to make sure the quality of the food you gave to customer. I am not expect the food quality will be a like a proper restaurant at least it need to be FRESH! Will avoid this shop in the future.

Ordered a large Sweet Chilli Chicken takeaway. I live 5 minutes away and by the time I got home the chicken was cold (the rice was nice and hot at least). Not only was the chicken cold though, it tasted unedible as if it had been left out for several days. Very dissapointing.

The best sushi in Leicester i guess

£45 order via deliveroo, noodles were cold and a katsu curry sauce was missing, tried calling kokoro twice and left a voice mail message, a day later still no reply. Deliveroo give an automated response and will reply in 2 weeks. In the meantime still no curry sauce!
