Koko Restaurant in Sheffield

Had a fantastic night at Koko, and will definitely return. Service was excellent and very friendly. Food was superb, and portions well sized. I had appetisers of miso soup and eddamame beans to start. Highly recommend the garlic butter with the beans. I had mixed tempura to start, which was excellent. Decent size helping of really high quality king prawns and soft shell crab. Dipping sauce was really tasty too. The real star of the show was the sushi platter I had for my main. Really good mix of traditional and modern sushi. Had the salmon, tuna, and prawn that you would expect, and a few more unusual picks like sea bass and mackerel. Quality if ingredients were excellent, and the in-house sushi chef is obviously very talented. Probably some of the best sushi I've had, and I've been to Japan multiple times. Dessert of chocolate and cherry torte was also brilliant. Very rich, but not too sweet. As part of the set meal, I also had a few little extras, such as an amazing gunkan maki and piece of dried fruit vegan chocolate which rounded off the meal nicely. Highly recommended, and will certainly be back.

The customer service is great, however, the food is not worth the price. We ordered the 3/4 course meal, the venison and the steak are not that great. Probably better to go for the sushi there.

Great customer service, visually appealing food, and a large range of Vegan and Vegetarian options. However, the meat dishes were not worth it. I would personally recommend choosing the sushi dishes as the meat is not their forte.

We came for a girlie bottomless brunch between Christmas and New Year. WOW WOW WOW! The food, service, experience were all IMMACULATE. Somewhere between the 3rd and 4th course we.boomes to come again in the New Year. Absolutely outstanding food and service. Amazing!

This place couldn't get better! We have been so many times and never get tired of the amazing food. The Maki rolls we honestly believe couldn't be better and Sushmita who always looks after us is the most wonderful welcoming host. The bottomless brunch is the most amazing value and every course is delicious! As usually we can't wait to return! Thankyou!

Amazing vegan sushi, expensive but worth it.

PERFECT FOR COELIACS. Knowledge for gluten free products is unmatched for an independent Japanese restaurant and the food is incredible. Service is always 5 star. This restaurant needs to be a constant on Ecclesall road for years to come. It has incredibly fresh food at the highest quality

Visited koko for my birthday dinner and I have to say its one of the best asian restaurants I have been to. The food is amazing and the service is perfect. Sushmita was so pleasant and lovely. We had the best experience with her ! Conpliments to the chef as well because the food was absolutely delicious. Cannot say it enough times that this restaurant needs a Michelin accreditation! Will definitely go back.

First time I went to koko around a year ago we loved it and couldn’t wait to go back! This time the staff were amazing yet again cannot fault the restaurant manager she is amazing the food wasn’t as great this time it wasn’t as premium and there was too much food that didn’t seem to be as high quality as last time which was a shame The price also went up to between £80-£90 per person

We've just tried this via the Too Good to Go app, getting food that would otherwise be wasted in a surprise box (you don't know what you're getting). This is real good sustainable effort so we support this. The food is amazing. We didn't eat in but it was quiet when we went as it was a late pick up for food. Very friendly staff. Food was good value via the app but it would've been more expensive otherwise

Sushmita, the general manager, is the absolute best! She is friendly and very helpful :D The food is great especially the Koko roll. They customised our food based on our dietary requirements (replaced the ham with salmon) and it was delicious. Thank you Sushmita and the chef!

Venison is one of the best I ever had

Since Koko has changed hands they are still incredible. Food is exquisite and the staff are friendly and really look after you. It isn’t cheap, because good sushi isn’t cheap. Highly recommended!

The food was amazing, we had one 3 course & a ten piece sushi roll, everything was so fresh and lovely. We really enjoyed our evening. The waitress was very lovely too making sure we were satisfied and had everything we needed.

We visited Koko on a quiet Sunday night hence the slight lack of atmosphere but we weren't there for the atmosphere, we were there for the food and it was excellent: highest quality ingredients, beautifully cooked, and immaculately presented! The service was friendly and attentive.

Went to Koko for our Wedding Anniversary and it definitely fitted the occasion. Front of house was so polite, friendly and helpful, the Chef and Sous Chef were incredible in their work and the food was out of this world. The best Tempura and Sushi we've ever tasted and all presented so beautifully. I would recommend this small and perfect restaurant to anyone and we will definitely be going back. Thank you Koko for a perfect evening.

Awesome food - really clever variations on eastern Japanese fusion cuisine. Lovely attention to detail and superbly catered for our dietary requirement - Gluten free (GF) and Dairy free (DF). The waitress was superb and even the chef came out to reassure of the allegies. A lovely experience

Visited this place for the first time, and it certainly did not disappoint. The vegetarian food is fantastic, and the staff was so lovely and catered exactly to our requirements. Special mention to Sushmita the Manager who was so attentive and helpful, she really made the entire experience for us. Can’t wait to return in the near future :)

Have a lovely Thursday night with friends in Koko. All the courses were amazing. The chargrill pork was a bit burning - we have to remove the black piece. The vegan menu impressed us a lot with a lot of options. The shizuoke starter with nori and breadcrumb get the spotlight of the day.

Beyond amazing. The food is exceptional, and the staff equally so. I will certainly be visiting here again.

Pleasant and intimate environment, very personable manager, and lovely chefs. There was a good variety to order from, portions were generous and the fish fresh. It is more fusion than pure Japanese but we had a good time. A special shout out to the chef who prepared 2 special dishes just for us.

We came in at 6:00 it was quiet, had a great welcoming from the manager who walked us through everything and catered to our specific dietary needs. The manager gave absolutely top notch service. I couldn't ask for a better evening.

We were slotted in at short notice and I’m so glad they could. We decided not to have the set menu but share several plates of sushi which were utterly delicious. All washed down with a glass of wine. The service was excellent in a relaxed atmosphere, I would definitely go again. Not a cheap meal but probably the nicest sushi I’ve ever had so absolutely worth it.

The waitress that served us stank of weed and was definitely high. The food was fine but I brought my family and expected better service than that.

We opted for the 4 course dinner option. They have a whole vegan and vegetarian side of the menu that's very clearly labelled and has great variety. The miso soup and edamame appetisers were a lovely start to the meal, which I followed with dashi tofu and then a 10 piece Jakku roll. Finished with the black bean sticky rice and caramelised pineapple (excellent flavour balance), and we were sipping on a really nice bottle of Shiraz throughout the meal. My companion really enjoyed the oysters furai, lamb and mochi and banana tempura pudding as well. I will definitely be back, beautiful meal!

Omg the freshest fish, best tempura soft shell crab and service was just perfect. We had the 4 course menu, the chefs tasters were out of this world !! Portions very substantial, presentation and turning spot on. Not a hint of fishyness in sight. The lady who looked after us we so knowledgeable of the menu, very attentive but not overly and frankly made an awesome meal in to a greyly awesome evening. Highly recommend

Second time of visiting and it was better than the first time which itself was excellent. I rarely, if ever, rate 5 so my 4 star ratings are as high as I go. Fabulous evening.

We sampled the 7 course tasting menu on Saturday afternoons & is a great introduction. Everything is fresh & beautifully presented the tuna & cod dishes particularly. Its excellent value at £40 per head & couldn’t manage a desert. Varied range of cocktails, Japanese beer & whisky. Lovely service with the chefs in view. Well worth it.

Had a really wonderful evening last night, went to Koko for a special birthday celebration and it was truly delicious. The Sushi platter and sushi rolls were the best we had ever had. Attention to detail was superb and we will be shouting about it around Sheffield! Go and visit, you will not be disappointed…

A fantastic tasting menu with a bottomless brunch. The dessert add on was very worth it. Definitely worth a try. The staff were incredibly attentive and personable. Sushi was the highlight as to be expected but the venison was also stand out.

Had the 7 course taster menu. This food was Michelin standard. Very reasonable price. Every dish was superb. This Japanese fusion menu did not disappoint. Stunning.

My first time at Kokos and it didn’t disappoint! Rather than the set menu options (which did look very tempting and good value), we ordered the full selection of the sushi rolls.. 40 rolls later between two people, it’s fair to say I was very full! All delicious and fresh, made to order and so tasty. The waitress was actually the new restaurant manager and she was excellent, very attentive and friendly and advised on the menu choices. Would definitely return to Koko’s and try some more of the wonderful dishes.

We went for my birthday for a celebratory meal. Small intimate place with lovely atmosphere and great food! Not gonna lie, it was spenny, but left full and satisfied and would definitely come back for another special occasion.

We’ve had the most incredible night at Koko. The service was second to none, the food so fresh and delicious (all the tuna dishes - wow) with ‘extra chefs choice’ tasters throughout our meal - so thoughtful and nice extra touch. Cocktails and wine delicious- honestly can’t wait to come back and arguably one of the best restaurants in Sheffield. Massive thanks for your hospitality, opened our eyes as to how good service can be. Chef and restaurant manager were super attentive Having lived in london i would recommend here for the best sushi!

My wife and I had a lovely evening, taking the option of the four course meal. The appetisers were amazing (particularly the spiced tuna) but felt that the main courses didn’t quite match the same levels. We had the duck and the cod, and whilst everything was cooked really well - I think there could have a been a greater emphasis on some of the Asian flavours to really lift them as they seemed a little lost in my opinion. The cod needed more ginger/yuzu for example and more contrasting textures & the duck dish was too westernised with the redcurrant sauce dominating. I’m also not sure why there needed to be whole raw quarters of an apple with the duck. Thinly sliced or charred would have been a better eating experience. I would have liked the duck to have been sliced too so that I could use chopsticks throughout rather than switching between, as knives and forks were needed to cut. Desserts were lovely, especially the pineapple dish. I know I am being quite specific with the feedback on some of the dishes but this is how I would improve them to make it 5 star. Nonetheless, I will definitely return and look forward to trying some of the other dishes. Service was outstanding.

Really great sushi! The best I have had in Sheffield for sure. The staff were lovely and even gave me a card for my birthday as my husband said it was my birthday dinner. It is definitely on the pricey side and is a special occasion restaurant for us. The only disappointing part of the evening is that a really needy, demanding and rude American woman sat next to us with her daughter. And they spoke loudly about the challenges of having trust funds and their bespoke sushi order. They were really rude to the waiter and I was so impressed about how they handled such difficult and entitled people. Will definitely visit again!!

Everything about the evening was amazing. We chose the four course menu, there was four of us and so each decided to have a different starter, main and dessert so that we could sample as many different things as possible. Every single piece of food was fantastic, portion sizes were plentiful. All dishes cooked to perfection. Can’t really make any recommendations as everything we tried was that good. Service was exceptional, with great advice given throughout the evening on choices of food. This was for a graduation and the staff even provided a little card for congratulations! Brilliant!

Don’t waste your time just go and enjoy the most delicious sushi that you'll ever have. Massive thank you to the chef Quan and the waiter. Really enjoyed the food and highly highly recommend it!

2022 update - just gets better and better! The top Asian resturant in Sheffield (we've tried the rest) has a new menu and it's superb. Really love the dishes the chefs are preparing at Koko - see photos. Already booked our next visit to explore more of the menu :) Wow, what an excellent restaurant. We're in love with the Koko dining experience having just celebrated a couples birthday at this wonderful Sheffield restaurant. The dishes are superb, each one is almost a work of art and they taste even better than they look. We particularly enjoyed the Tsumago sushi rolls, topped with pan-fried sirloin steak and homemade pesto - so delicious we had seconds! Manager Dan, Alice, Anthony and top chef Felix made the dining experience at Koko up there with the best - they are all very friendly, knowledgeable and passionate about the dishes. We're already looking forward to our next visit to this top Sheffield restaurant. Highly, highly recommended.

Had a few great meals at Koko's. Left this time due to the very high prices which had gone up significanly since last visiting. £6 for a Miso soup we thought was a bit of a rip off.

I have visited Koko more times than I can count. It is my FAVOURITE restaurant, stunning food with fantastic service. Highly recommend, book a table you won’t regret it!

Mouth-wateringly rememberable. This restaurant is exceptional, spanning from their service to their food, to the wine paired with it. I have eaten sushi in a lot of places across the world and this place comes up near the top. From the complimentary special roll, to the spicy edamame with the garlic soy sauce, to the exquisite tuna tartare, we were definitely not let down visiting this place. We actually cancelled our reservation at Beju, as we wanted something more authentic and we for sure made the right choice. Koko completely lived up to its reputation. Our unique dining experience was all creds to the brilliant chef and the lovely waitresses who helped us with picking food and drinks, as well as letting us try bits and bobs throughout. Easily the best restaurant I have visited in Sheffield. Thank you again, will be bringing everyone I know back.

Good food but a little overpriced.

Bang average, again. £100 for two people for really average sushi - best thing was the two piece “chefs treat”. Used to love Koko, the American guy there always made it a pleasure and was super knowledgeable. I’ve been twice recently and was amazingly underwhelmed by the food and really slow service.

Been meaning to come here for a while and eventually made it. The choice of food was amazing and vegan options were also available. We mainly ordered sushi and it was all very tasty. We would definitely return.

For a vegan/vegetarian occasion meal, I cannot recommend Koko enough! This is a must-eat for any fans of Japanese food, every menu item was surprising and delicious due to the menu's take on fusion. I had quite possibly the best seitan I've had in my life! The service was attentive and friendly, despite the house being packed on a Saturday night. The customer care beforehand was excellent as we had to switch our booking due to illness.

Stop reading, book a table, and enjoy it for yourself! My words simply can not do justice to the amazing food, sublime atmosphere, and great staff you'll find at Koko. Update: Tonight, due to a booking error we arrived as the resturant was closing, many other places would've apologised and turned us away but the team at Koko honoured our booking and treated us to their amazing winter menu. Update 2: Even after years of coming to Koko, the quality is still as amazing as I have described in earlier reviews. This truly is a special place you should experience for yourself!

First visit and didn't disappoint, food was fantastic as you can see from the photos !!

Absolutely blown away! There was nothing bad at all to say about this nights experience. We both did the menyu 52 and it was worth every pound. It may feel expensive but you get so much food out of it, we walked out so full and satisfied. The chef’s treats between the courses were such a lovely touch. The presentation of each meal was fantastic! A treat for the eyes. The miso soup especially stuck out to me - it was incredible and I loved the chunks of tofu! I loved the variation in each plate, I loved the colours and freshness. What was really great was that it wasn’t your typical Japanese food - my partner got venison and carpaccio! And he absolutely loved both. The desserts were the perfect size, not overwhelming at all. The soy sauce I could have drank like juice! All that doesn’t even mention how great the service was - Alice was incredible. She was the only staff serving that night, with just one chef one in the kitchen. She was so kind and they were not at all slow or delayed, I wouldn’t have even realised it was just the two of them! A birthday card was left on the table for my fiancé’s birthday which he greatly appreciated! Just overall wonderful experience and absolutely cannot wait to go back!!

Absolutely loved our meal and experience at Koko last night. We had the two-course set menu and it was amazing. I particularly enjoyed the sushi. Four of us went, 2 vegans and 2 omni, and we were all very happy with everything. Richard looked after us, and the whole evening felt like a treat 😊

Another trip to Koko, another amazing meal. Food wise this place never disappoints and as per our last few trips the quality was fantastic. And at a little over £100 for 5 courses plus drinks IMHO great value for money too. Main reason for leaving...

Absolutely flawless, I cannot think of anything that was wrong. Alice gave fantastic customer service and the food was delicious. Anyone who hasn’t gone here yet, put it on your bucket list and go there right now!

This place is absolutely exceptional! Everything about it is beautiful and I would highly recommend anyone that loves fabulous food and service to go there. Our server was Alice and she accompanied us all night with amazing service that always left us satisfied and happy with our questions answered. The food was made to the highest standard by the chefs and we polished off several plates! Thank you to the amazing team for making the evening the most enjoyable.

Koko serves beautiful sushi and Japanese inspired food. We love it. This evening we booked a table to celebrate a graduation and they went all out to make this a special occasion. Absolutely brilliant service and delicious food!

Perfect. Me and boyfriend both had the 42 menu and could not fault. Every course was well presented and tasted fantastic. Chefs treats in-between were a lovely surprise and much enjoyed. Would definitely return and reccomend to everyone. The whole experience was made even better by the lovely staff, thank you !!
