Koinonia South Indian Restaurant in Newark and Sherwood

Me and my family visited on Saturday evening. We enjoyed the dinner. It was delicious and very tasty, especially corriander fish curry. And the service is excellent.

Disgusting food and low quality too. I felt nausea and nearly vomited. 🤮 the “cheap” lunch comes with 3 tiny pieces of rubber meat and tiny bowls of disgusting sauce and the rice tastes sand. Also, you can hardly understand their English. Poor customer care!!! I wish I had gone to Mac Donalds instead. I would have been better served for the same price. I don’t recommend this place in Newark .

Second visit for this flavourful restaurant, this time with my family, It is very interesting that the service man remember me, the team took care of us really good. Tried the specials on board as always, the service team explained the food according to the taste preferences as my daughter told.

What an amazing experience. I tried tapioca and fish curry , my wife tried masala roast beef. Good service and very calm place. I will definitely come back with my parents.

Koinonia is a true gem for South Indian cuisine near Lincoln! The food is absolutely delicious and authentic, with rich flavours that remind you of traditional meals. Found the main course & sides to be very bland, untasty & ended up wasting it. Plus side was the Mango Lassi & i thoroughly enjoyed the lamb chops and ended up ordering 4 plates. service was great & the decor was nice. Definitely not worth the price, but each to their own.

An excellent restaurant. Great lunchtime offer of 5 little dishes with a Dosa and poppadom (5 x veggie or 4 x veggie and one meat) for £7.95. Warm and friendly, lunchtime atmosphere great. Fast, friendly service with all menu options available. We will definitely try and evening meal here in the future.

Probably one of the best Currys i have ever had! delicious, fresh authentic food. we have been several times and sampled many dishes and they are all good. highly recommend!

Everything was cold. Was to be expected given the climate. However the Seafood Platter was appalling, it was freezing and tasted like left overs from 3 days ago. The curry’s was very tasty, however £15 each for 5 bits of chicken!!!!

Menu requires you to be an expert in not so popular Indian food. Pricy. Staff were very nice though. The actual food was a 6/10. Outside screams something different, inside it was rather basic.

The Koinonia is a superb and very different Indian restaurant experience in Newark focusing on South Indian cuisine which is more delicate in taste and flavours than Bangladeshi or Pakistani balti food (which I also adore!) You'll find the Koinonia opposite the bus station on the edge of Newark town centre and you can get two hours free parking in Asda! Our 1st Indian restaurant! We just pop in about an hour before to book the table and when come back we didn't expecting then it will be fully booked! Very friendly staff, helps us to choose the food which was very delicious! The best was a small portion of fish from the share plater for a starter 👌 Thank you

Best India Restaurant in Newark. Being South Indian dishes are slight different from the usual India food you would expect.

Had a delicious Malabar style Biriyani and Malabar parotta with few nice gravies! Will recommend.

The curry was lovely but the toilets were not great. Inside of the toilet door was grubby.

Wow! What a taste? Really mouth watering. I had special stuffed seabass. Excellent service. Staffs are wonderful. Reputed place. Excellent indian taste and reasonable price.

I’ve been to Koinonia a few times, and I’ve had a pretty good experience overall. The Malabar parotta and appam are definitely highlights—they’re soft and perfectly made. I’ve also tried the mussels roast and beef masala, and while everyone’s taste is different, I personally found them flavorful and well-spiced. The staff have always been welcoming and the service attentive, which adds to the overall experience. Overall, Koinonia has given me the best Kerala cuisine I’ve had in the UK so far. It’s definitely worth a visit if you’re looking for authentic flavors and great hospitality.

Been to several Kerala restaurants in the UK so know what to expect now as compared to actual Malayalee food. However, Koinonia was still disappointing. The Malabar parotta and appam were the only good items from whay we ordered. The mussels roast lacked the flavour and dahi battata poori was soggy and uninspired compared to other places. The poppadom felt old and stale too. The beef masala roast and lamb stew didn't have the best quality of meat and was too oily. Overall, unfortunately it was the worst kerala meal I have had in the UK. I have had much better food in Nottingham, Birmingham and York :). Given the good reviews, I wonder if it was just a bad day at the office or we ordered their bad dishes but I definitely don't want to give it a try again as it doesnt reflect vakue for money for me. I have only given 2 stars as they seem like nice people and I wish them all the best.

It's a great pleasure to see this fantastic Kerala restaurant in this town. A hidden gem I would say. Authentic flavours and wonderfully curated Menu. Very close to NCP car parking. Must try: Mussels roast, Kozhi Kurumulagu Peralan,Pala Egg roast. They have specials board which is so unique

Came for dinner with friends. Had fish platter and chicken roast starter. I am happy I found this place. We had the Masala Roast Beef, Kudampuli Fish Curry, Appam and Poori. Good service and very authentic Kerala food. Highlight is NCP car parking is just nearby.

i had spinach and onion vada as starters, well that was amusing. I emptied the plate like in two minutes the flavor was to the point. Kakka roast was another thing I tried, it was a delight.cooked properly and so nice We have had the lamb curry in the mains and I must say chefs are really good at what they do this restaurant is really has a name to to its value, top notch Susan ,who served us; a charm , she really got us going very well ,oh i'm in love with the food there And i got my free desserts i'd say ,because it's a taste bomb for the price ;Carrot halwa this restaruant absolutely nicked it Top class ! Amazing food and lovely service, The waitress was great, it gets busy here on a Saturday so book a table or come early, the restaurant looks tired in places…the toilets particularly but don’t be put off the food more than makes up for it

I’m very glad that I found Koininia. This is one of the best Kerala restaurants in England. Everything we tried, especially the appam & kozhi kurumulak perlan, poth ularth, neychor and kakka roast were just amazing. The staff were very friendly and helpful. This is one of the very few places that focus on quality and taste. I’d definitely recommend this place. The authentic Kerala taste with no compromises.

I went with my husband for the lunch. It is such a good pleasure a warm welcoming atmosphere they have. The staff gave us a complete outlook of how the food will be and we are very happy with the service they provide. We had the most recommended Railway curry, Lamb Chops and their day special Seabass. Top notch!! We will definitely come back!

Staying locally in our motorhome and decided on takeaway for our evening meal. We weren’t disappointed! Samosa was the best I’ve ever had and the chick pea curry with rice and chapatti was super tasty. Dessert Gulab Jamun was a small portion but was delicious! Driver very efficient and friendly.

We have eaten at the restaurant many times and enjoyed the food. Glad to say their takeaway meals are just as good

Had to give one star because i can’t give zero. Never known such rudeness from a so called “restaurant”. Take a look at other one star reviews and you will see how rude the owner/management are at replying back! Food is alright. Nothing special at all. Would not recommend as the “dining experience” is abysmal throughout.

I've never had a bad meal at Koinonia, and this restaurant is more about the food than anything else. I recommend the specials board if you can't make up your mind about the menu. I've had sea bass as a special on two occasions, and it's excellent.

Good and refreshing food. You will feel like you are in INDIA. We were on our way to Cambridge from Sheffield and found this hotel. It is great place to take break and have lunch. We parked in asda parking as well as you can find open parking nearby

Food here is definitely 5* and worth a trip for genuine South Indian food. We particularly like the starters - Dosas are amazing - so we went for a collection of starters. And one main to share Berens 2. There was plenty of food. The restaurant itself is tired and could do with a make-over, but don’t let this put you off :-)

Really excellent food at Koinonia with excellent value to boot. Great range of dishes both classic and which I hadn't tried before, including curried Keralan mussels to start, which were a massive stand out for me personally. My fillet beef main was also excellent and paired really well with freshly made parathas. My fiancé is vegetarian and she had lots of great options for mains and starters, including an excellent range of curries and more unknown dishes such as the Sambar Wada, silky dumplings coated in a delicious and rich tomatoes curry sauce, to start. One of the best Indian restaurants I've ever eaten at tucked away in Newark - I'll definitely be back.

Had a great time at Koinonia. Paid parking lot and free street parking nearby. Really friendly and engaging staff, happy to advise on their favourite menu options. Restaurant got quite busy on a weekday evening. Had nice selection of starters. Both the thali and dosa were quite delicious, and their famous payasam excellent too. Good place to come for Keralan food if in the area!

Very bad quality food- not worth the money! We expected a lot from the reviews but not worth it! Only better one dish is the crab roast among the dosa, biriyani, beef etc we ordered. wasted a lot of money, if you want paratha or dosa from here- better buy frozen from shops. Never recommend!!

Really good food at a fair price

Great to go to a South Asian cuisine restaurant which doesn't just trot out the staples. There appeared to be a story behind each dish. Well blended flavours, excellent service.

Had the railway mutton curry as we had it previously and it was beautiful, but this time it wasn't anywhere near as nice, i could have made better myself, it was all wet as if it was cooked from frozen, i couldn't take it back as we got it on the way home which is 20 miles away, won't be going back! true waste of £40

Great little Indian restaurant. We went as a group of friends one evening as a catch up. I had the Biryani and was so good. Tasty, large chunks of chicken and the accompanying curry was so tasty. I had the fish starter special, again really nice and would suggest it's a little like the inside of a good quality fishcake without the batter. Great service, swift and attentive. My friends has the butter chicken and chicken mehini (spelling) special. Lots of empty plates and satisfied smiles.

Unassuming restaurant, with good and efficient service. We liked being given the option of where we sat. Good selection of vegetarian dishes - we had two curries, boiled rice, a side dish and 2 chapatis.

We were looking for authentic Kerala cuisine and we were very pleased with the choice we made... Located in Newark Town centre, there is parking available at NCP car park nearby or in the ASDA car park across the road. The ambience was good and the staff, very friendly. The menu offered a good spread of authentic Kerala cuisine. The food was excellent, which matched the excellent service. Overall, it was a great dining experience! We will definitely be visiting again...

Decent choice for an Indian. The portions of the currys are on the small side. The lamb needs more cooking/trnderising. Also, the breads/Dosa didn't feel that they were cooked to order

5* food. Love the menu, not your run of the mill Indian. I always buy extra dishes for myself because one or two are never enough, and it means I get two good banquets. Self love ❤️

Honestly the best restaurant in Newark. Family style service with a unique south Indian flavour. 'Fast snacks' are a must, and I would urge you all to avoid the usual Indian restaurant tropes and try something new... be guided by your server and try sour curry, or the amazing dosa or any of the amazing specials. Truly one of a kind.
