Really excellent food at Koinonia with excellent value to boot. Great range of dishes both classic and which I hadn't tried before, including curried Keralan mussels to start, which were a massive stand out for me personally. My fillet beef main was also excellent and paired really well with freshly made parathas. My fiancé is vegetarian and she had lots of great options for mains and starters, including an excellent range of curries and more unknown dishes such as the Sambar Wada, silky dumplings coated in a delicious and rich tomatoes curry sauce, to start. One of the best Indian restaurants I've ever eaten at tucked away in Newark - I'll definitely be back.

Had a great time at Koinonia. Paid parking lot and free street parking nearby. Really friendly and engaging staff, happy to advise on their favourite menu options. Restaurant got quite busy on a weekday evening. Had nice selection of starters. Both the thali and dosa were quite delicious, and their famous payasam excellent too. Good place to come for Keralan food if in the area!

My grandson and I got a take away from Koinonia in Newark last night and it was the best Indian I have ever had! Absolutely delicious! We will definitely be back!

Very bad quality food- not worth the money! We expected a lot from the reviews but not worth it! Only better one dish is the crab roast among the dosa, biriyani, beef etc we ordered. wasted a lot of money, if you want paratha or dosa from here- better buy frozen from shops. Never recommend!!

Really good food at a fair price

Great to go to a South Asian cuisine restaurant which doesn't just trot out the staples. There appeared to be a story behind each dish. Well blended flavours, excellent service.

Food here is fabulous, lots of seafood and vegetarian but enough for the carnivores as well. Service is really friendly, everything is done with a smile.

Very enjoyable meal, service food were both excellent. It is a South Indian restaurant and has some very nice dishes that reflect that. I tried the fish in banana leaf which was very tasty. Next time we are in Newark we will return.

Had the railway mutton curry as we had it previously and it was beautiful, but this time it wasn't anywhere near as nice, i could have made better myself, it was all wet as if it was cooked from frozen, i couldn't take it back as we got it on the way home which is 20 miles away, won't be going back! true waste of £40

Great little Indian restaurant. We went as a group of friends one evening as a catch up. I had the Biryani and was so good. Tasty, large chunks of chicken and the accompanying curry was so tasty. I had the fish starter special, again really nice and would suggest it's a little like the inside of a good quality fishcake without the batter. Great service, swift and attentive. My friends has the butter chicken and chicken mehini (spelling) special. Lots of empty plates and satisfied smiles.

Unassuming restaurant, with good and efficient service. We liked being given the option of where we sat. Good selection of vegetarian dishes - we had two curries, boiled rice, a side dish and 2 chapatis.

We were looking for authentic Kerala cuisine and we were very pleased with the choice we made... Located in Newark Town centre, there is parking available at NCP car park nearby or in the ASDA car park across the road. The ambience was good and the staff, very friendly. The menu offered a good spread of authentic Kerala cuisine. The food was excellent, which matched the excellent service. Overall, it was a great dining experience! We will definitely be visiting again...

Honestly the best restaurant in Newark. Family style service with a unique south Indian flavour. 'Fast snacks' are a must, and I would urge you all to avoid the usual Indian restaurant tropes and try something new... be guided by your server and try sour curry, or the amazing dosa or any of the amazing specials. Truly one of a kind.

Great place, great service, very convenient location. Had the express lunch which does exactly what it says. Drop in, have express lunch, get back to work (or shopping etc). The food is delicious, service is prompt, attentive and always with a smile. Good prices too, and right in the middle of town. Definitely visit if you can.

Very good authentic South Indian food. Most other restaurants around the area are not Indian though they claim to be one.

The Koinonia masala dosa was pretty good. The chutneys, prawn starter and the chicken dish was a bit toned down in terms of spices. The chapatis were doughy in parts. The restaurant offers a lot in terms of value and ambience but I hope to see more balance in terms of the spiciness of the food.

Just amazing. Since we moved to Newark this has been a regular Friday night takeaway for us. The food is always outstanding. Great flavour, nice portions (although you always want more). Incredibly tasty dishes. Delivery is quick, and even pickup is fast. Staff are super friendly and always welcoming. Delivery drivers are quick, courteous and considerate (no deep base music to not the neighbours). Truly a great feature of Newark.

Fabulous Keralan/South Indian cuisine, authentic and delicious. Nice service too and fairly priced from 'bargain' to 'justified' depending on your taste and wallet.

It was just a google find as we were coming back from our holiday trip. It was pretty good. Fish starters and curry were spot on. Paneer mutter and butter chicken were mouth watering. Didn't like the sambhar vada that much. Ordered dosa which was good. Overall it was a really good experience. George, restaurant host, was friendly and their staff were as well. I would go back for try out some sea food again.

Food was very authentic and people who work there were very friendly. Prices were standard for a typical Indian restaurant in the Uk. I will definitely visit the restaurant again and also will recommend it. It is also at a walkable distance from the station.

Delicious food! Very original menu and got to try dish’s I hadn’t heard of before. We were a walk and in and explained we were in a bit of a rush and our server was so understanding and managed to get our food out very quickly!! We were so grateful. Would recommend to friends and family.

As a south Indian, if I ever want to eat bland + average tasting south Indian food, I know where to go. The starter platter for £5.99 is just 4 types of Indian crisps, straight from a supermarket sealed packet (prepared many months ago & tasting rancid) = worth £0.50 in total. The sizzler ? Nothing sizzling about it except the money you burnt & the meat they burnt ! Like eating charcoal !! Let's try the meal - oh ! Yeah... That's bland too. My friend who wanted to have dosa (0r dosai) - well, an average non crispy , half cooked dosa. No wonder it looked empty on a busy weekday - we went straight from work for lunch there & then had to buy sandwiches on our way to work !! Not taking any of my friends again !!

Great little restaurant. Amazing southern Indian food with lots of seafood options. Love the coconut curry dishes. The staff are very helpful and professional. The food quality is 5 star. The food prep in this place is all fresh and not precooked, so compared to other Indians the food takes slightly longer to cook. Small price to pay for authentic high quality food. We've eaten here 3 times and will become regulars.

These guys just deserve all the success. The food is so deliciously authentic and the service is so so beyond. Even on mother's day, one of the busiest days for trading, I took my 1 year old in, they made him a special dish just so he could eat something as they were only offering a set menu that day. By FAR the best Keralan place in the vicinity. Please don't even think about going in there and ordering chips with a Tikka Masala. Enjoy their cuisine, you won't regret it!

Wonderful food, good service fair price

Had a lovely meal last night with my family. The adults had the beautiful three course tasting menu and the children enjoyed snacks and dosa with their accompaniments, washed down with mango lassi - and of course, kulfi for dessert. Delicious food and great hospitality and service.

I visited this south Indian restaurant yesterday, and while the food was okay, the service left a lot to be desired. The staff member who served us was not friendly or inviting, and was downright rude in denying our requests. It felt like he had an attitude, and I suspect he may have been a manager. The menu choices were also quite limited, and it was strange when he asked us to order sides for the poori. It seemed odd to me, especially since I've had plenty of South Indian food before. The sambar vada was also a disappointment - the sambar was old, and the vada was rubbery. To make matters worse, he first said that the parroto would take some time, and then said that it was not available at all. It would have been better if he had confirmed the menu availability when we made our booking via the website, so that we could have planned accordingly. On the positive side, the masala beef curry and nadan cootu erachi Kari were delicious. However, the overall experience was marred by the negative attitude of the staff member who served us. All things considered, I do not think I will be visiting this restaurant again. The food was just okay, and the service was not up to par. If you do plan to visit, I would advise you to confirm the menu availability beforehand.

Yesterday night i visited the one of my fav South Indian restaurant with my family .Actually it was a great experience for my family . We ordered special starter chicken 65 and sambar vada my mom fav one that was nice . And we taste special main stuffed sea bass that’s amazing.This restaurant menu includes wide varieties of choices of South Indian tastes and preferences. And the friendly staff and their serving styles is extremely amazing . I really wish to visit again . In my opinion if you are looking for a South Indian taste koinonia is the first choice. Go and enjoy taste of its own !!! Thank you

Great customer service, and a wonderful atmosphere. Can't praise them enough. Definitely worth a visit, I traveled about 18 miles. I will be back very soon.
