Koi Japanese Cuisine in Wigan

This is a very good restaurant and genuine Japanese food!!! Sad that the team is retiring and closed down now.

We got the £22 per person deal and added some sushi and black Sesame seed ice cream. Absolutely loved every part of the meal.

Walked in to an empty restaurant, a threadbare carpet, shabby decor...skirting boards desperately need painting and the paint is flaking off the wall in the corner, a lighting cover that had been sellotaped in place decided to make an escape attempt right over our heads, the waitresses where dressed in hoodies and black trousers..they looked as though they where working in a warehouse or similar. The atmosphere was akin to a morgue, you could barely hear the piped music. As regards the food, it was absurdly plain and my meal was resembling something that a single bloke would rustle up, eating it whilst sat in front of the telly watching Granada Reports. As for the drinks ..my wife was served a pint of cheap Coke and I had beer....there was an option of four beers on the menu but my first choice wasn't available! Sorry guy's but you drastically need to up your game.....

Not a great Japanese experience. Food was prepared in a way that made it very basic and of poor quality. For example, the squid was tough and the tempura came off it in one piece, octopus balls were undercooked and contained no octopus pieces. I would not go again.

Easily the best Japanese food option in the area, multiple options on the menu and now probably worked my way through 50% of the menu. The service is always very good and allowances made for gaps between courses. We usually take 30mins to walk so that we can enjoy a drink and stroll back afterwards 👍👍👍🥢🥢🥢

Very nice quiet place. Bento box was just awesome, best i ever had. Highly recomended. Don't be put off by the look of the street, the place is great.

Binned it all and had toast instead. Never wasting my time or money on this place again. What Asian restaurant thinks that steamed rice with a bit of chicken chucked into it could pass for fried rice?? Absolute joke.

The food quality is great. Sushi is fresh and the hot food for kids are amazing. The price is reasonable. It’s worth to go and try. The furnishing is a bit old but the food and service are good.

Food was just amazing and delicious. Will recommend to all my friends and put Koi on my favorite restaurants list!

Amazing food as always. U gotta try the salt and pepper chips too, mind blowingly good. Best Japanase restaurant for miles. I highly recommend the salmon bentonite box.

Had sushi, it was ok. Some were nicer than others. There was a lot of duck in the duck inside out rolls. It was a long wait for food as it was Friday night and only one chef working. Staff were polite but didn't get 20% off for take away which isn't correct. Maybe next time I'll try the restaurant as the smells coming from the kitchen were lovely.

Went here on a whim with my partner and we really enjoyed it! There was a good selection of vegetarian food for us (less than your average Sushi restaurant chain but plenty for the two of us). If we’re in the area we will definitely come again!

Very delicious food with good portion sizes and friendly staff!

The first time I went, I saw that it was opened by a Japanese, and I had high expectations. I ordered some sashimi, sushi, tempura, soda. Except for sushi, it was okay, but the others were not very good. The sashimi was very thin, and the tempura was not loose. Crispy, not like the taste in Japan, the soda is even more non-steaming, the price is not cheap, the worst I have had in the UK.

I always enjoy the food from here. The sushi is delicious and the meals are filling

I absolutely love this place, staff are lovely, food is AMAZING, price is really reasonable. It shocks me that it isn't more popular because it really is an amazing restaurant. You get absolutely loads for your money.

Best restaurant in the area by a mile. If it was in the middle of Manchester, it would be full every night winning awards. Visited last night and had an amazing meal. It was full as well, combination of couples, families and a larger party. Really fairly priced as well.

We love it here. Always bring the relatives when they come to visit. The sushi selection is great and is prepared at a bar in the middle of the restaurant, next time I must ask if I can go and watch. Really delicious food all around. We will be back soon

My boyfriend surprised me with a dinner at Koi for Valentine’s Day because I love sushi, and it did not disappoint! Neither of us had been here before but he’d read a “best sushi in and around Manchester” post on Facebook and decided to try it (along with some noodle dishes). Lovely fresh fish, nicely presented dishes and very friendly staff. We’ll definitely be returning for another delicious meal.

Ordered for collection tonight with friends as my partner and I were visiting the area. Normally we would sit in, but due to the current rising numbers of Covid infections we opted for collection, which is a shame because the inside of the restaurant was beautiful. Nevertheless the food we took home was immaculate. We had bento boxes with sashimi and the beef tataki starter. The portion sizes were incredible, very generous, and the flavours were excellent. Would definitely recommend visiting this lovely little restaurant, tucked away on a little side street.

This was my favourite place to eat when I lived in Leigh - the veggie bento boxes are amazing and the staff are lovely! I just wish I didn't live so far away now :,( Honestly, it's hard to believe such a nice restaurant is in the middle of Leigh!

Dull and dated. Didn't really like it very much. Most things appear deep fried. Noodles looked like nothing special. Had the katsu chicken. For the price of nearly £12 was disappointing. Personally would not return in a hurry. Sorry about that.

I love Koi Japanese. The staff are so nice and attentive. The bento boxes are a favourite but lately been ordering a selection as everything is so tasty.

Went for my son's 12th birthday meal - fabulous as always! His friends had never had Japanese food before but gave it a go. They also played happy birthday for him over the restaurant as he blew it his candles. Thank you 😊

All sushi and sashimi dishes taste good and fresh especially the salmon ones The tempura and the calamari are pretty standard, not much of a surprise. For the mains, the spicy wafu udon is not very spicy and the texture of the udon is nicely done, not too soft not too hard. The katsu curry tastes amazing too. The pork is crispy and very tender with a little fat in it. There are onion and carrot that gives the curry a little sweetness. The one star off is basically for the options of sushi and sashimi is kinda limited. However, the quality is really great.

Walked over 25 minutes to get to this place based on the review's thought we'd give it a try. Pleasently surprised with the food, flavour of sauce is very strong and very nice crispy outer chicken. Just upset that whilst we were in the restaurant they were switching off the lights as if to say hurry up and get out. Otherwise definitely eat here decent portions and the staff who served us was very friendly.

Went for dinner with friends. Ordered each a bento box with different selections. Plus a bowl of sashimi to share! Love the freshness of the sashimi. This is definitely that needs to be shared with more people! Will recommend and come back again for food!

We had the £28 per head menu and got a real taste of the menu! We’ll be back to try the bento boxes and the rest of the menu. The Duck was cooked beautifully. Can’t recommend enough.

Absolutely fantastic; such a lovely gem in Leigh; true Japanese taste (I am Japanese and can tell most of the time if the dishes are made by different nationality) at reasonable price. The Bento boxes are the most value for money, but I'd strongly recommend you to try others - you wouldn't be disappointed!

We call in for the take away bento box and a drink while we wait. The Bento box isn't cheap, but really good value for the money, well prepared fresh and a good range of flavours.

Always amazing. Such polite and efficient service and the food is always wonderful. We have the bento boxes most of the time and you get so much for your money. I would highly recommended this place

I live in Manchester and have to drive 35 minutes to get there but it’s always worth it. I’m a chef by trade (worked in multi rosette and Michelin) and cannot fault any of the dishes we’ve had. If you’re unsure just give it a go you will be glad you did.

you will go a long way to find better, sushi is to die for, not great furnishings but service and food more than make up.

We can't go more than a few weeks without eating here. The food is amazing and the service is exceptional.

We got a takeaway of sushi and bento boxes. It was all so fresh and piping hot. Particularly the tempura vegetables, best I've ever had. We've been here a few times and the staff are always so lovely and polite. And the food is always amazing!

Absolutely amazing little place , Me and my partner opted for this place as we’ve drove past a few times and wow I can honestly say everything was to perfection, including the presentation . I would definitely reccomend the miso soup as I ended up having 2 bowls . Thank you for our visit and we will 1000% be returning :)

1st time i have eaten here, the food that i had was all made fresh to order. The decor needs attention but dont let it put you off.It was clean and the staff were nice .This place has been in Leigh for a very long time, so they have got something right .

Great Japanese restaurant. The food is excellent and cooked to order. The service is attentive, but not overwhelming. As others have mentioned the decor is a little dated, but is clean and tidy. Well worth a visit if you love Japanese food.

I am new to Japanese food so the lunch menu presented an easy way to choose.We enjoyed everything and the staff were attentive.Excellent value for money. I am sure we will be braver next time and try the full evening menu.

Very good quality, especially the tempura soft shell crab. Only issue was the wasabi wasn't very hot. Would definitely recommend this place.

Koi is a hidden gem in Leigh. This is my second review and I think it deserves to have continued praise.The food is beautiful, reasonably priced and the staff and wonderful. I worry that it will close because it always seems quiet so I make sure to visit often and recommend it to friends and family. The decor would benefit from being updated, have the lighting a bit brighter and opening the blinds in the windows would show the world that it is open for business. Please give it a visit, you wont be disappointed!!

A nice place with Japanese food in Leigh

My husband and I visited for the first time this month after hearing good things about this restaurant. It did not disappoint! The food was amazing, affordable, tasty and using great quality ingredients. We moved into the area just over a year ago and we both agreed that this restaurant, although a bit of a drive away from Glazebury where we live, could well become our most visited.

I would not have expected to find such a great Japanese restaurant in Leigh. There was a wide range of dishes that are ideal for people who regularly enjoy Japanese food as well as some more straightforward dishes for the less adventurous. The staff were friendly and attentive (you need to get their attention) and the ambience was relaxed.

Have visited here on multiple occasions always great food and as good as anywhere else I’ve been for sushi.

Ate here last night with husband’s cousin and his Japanese wife who were visiting us. We were a little apprehensive about taking them in case they were disappointed but we had a fabulous meal and both said it was the best Japanese meal they had eaten outside Japan, and was even better than some of the meals they had eaten in their home of Tokyo.We had a combination of starters, sushi, sashimi, gyozo, etc and then Bento boxes, skewers and noodle dishes. It was an advantage having fluent Japanese speakers (cousin has lived there 30 years) as we found out the chef arrived from Japan (also) 30 years ago and worked in London and Liverpool before deciding to take on the Leigh restaurant. All the fish and ingredients are sourced through Japanese importers and they pride themselves on offering truly authentic Japanese food. Don’t be scared of trying something different, it really is a great place to eat and is an asset to the town. Can’t wait to visit again,

Great food and reasonable price

Very friendly, great service, food was amazing very tasty will be visiting again.

We are regulars but we live near Blackpool. We are happy to commute to get the fantastic sushi and duck. Their food is always impeccable. Service sometimes can be a little slow but there is only the two wonderful young ladies and the chef so that’s understandable. We have often spent 3 hours in there just taking our time enjoying ourselves and we never feel rushed to leave so they can seat other customers.

I have been here on numerous occasions and almost tried all of the Menu , it always fails to disappoint me, I am here so much that It feels like I'm apart of the furniture. The Staff here are always friendly and attentive, I will be back soon to try another dish Yum.

What a disappointment. Used to visit here regular. Been today, staff sat on their arses. No customers in. Food was returned. Couldn't care less attitude from the staff. To busy on their phones and I have just noticed a 2 on hygeine standards. Certainly wont be visiting again.

We happened upon this restaurant, and very much enjoyed the evening. The quality of the food was excellent, and the service very helpful and friendly. We will be going back again - soon!

Great food lovely staff perfect

After our two holiday this was our first priority on our return. The lunchtime menu is fantastic value with portions only slightly smaller than the evening. We have now learned to make the most of eating here, we opt for sashimi platter and then order starter afterwards and then finally order the main. This a great way to relax and savour the meal. Without doubt the best restaurant in town.
