Kohinoor Indian Cuisine in Babergh

Ordered takeaway for delivery at 5.05pm, told delivery will be within 1 hour. At 6.45 I call and am told it will be about 10-15 mins as doing another delivery first. I advise that will be two hours almost when you said within an hour and the guy reacted as if I was out of order for complaining. He wasn’t bothered. Never take customers for granted or you will lose them and this will be the last time I use them. Have been told the new Indian is much better by neighbours so that is where I shall go.

Food was amazing, service was amazing, restaurant was amazing and Limon was amazing and very handsome ;)

We had always used another well known Indian restaurant in Sudbury, but during 2020 we had a few not so nice meals from them (and their prices had really shot up) so we tried Kohinoor on the recommendation of a friend. Well… i cannot believe we had not found this gem sooner. Food is delicious and very generous portions. We had a group of friends over last night , starters, mains and side dishes for 6 people, everything was cooked to perfection, no mistakes whatsoever with the home delivery , not one of us managed to eat it all (lunch today is sorted) all for around £13.50 a head and they even threw in a free bottle of Merlot !!! What more could you ask for.

I ordered a takeaway tonight and it was the best Indian I have had. Absolutely delicious. I will be using this takeaway again everything was cooked to perfection.

We've had takeaways from The Kohinoor for several years. The food is always consistently good, it arrives hot, and is delicious. It's great value and you get good portions, and the delivery always arrives on time. They definitely get five stars from us. The staff are friendly, including the delivery drivers. Always polite and helpful. I recommend you try the Kohinoor.

We have had many indian deliveries from Kohinoor.they are always great,recommended them to many friends.Tonight wow never in my life tasted lamb as tasty and tender as this.melt in the mouth.i have had lamb dishes in many countries but this beats them all. Always have lamb tikka. chicken vindaloo. Keema rice. Onion bajis. Keema nann Peshwaria nann. Onion salads With popadoms and yogurt chutney. My friends ask why do we have the same meal? Because we absolutely love it! Every single time. It also does us 2 nights. Thankyou.xxxxx

We have been using them for years and have never had a complaint about our food. Best Indian in Sudbury and wouldn’t go anywhere else. They even recognise us when we ring for an order! Lovely friendly family run business 🙂

When I placed my order this time I asked for more spice in my dansak and Ramon recommended veg curry hit up with chilli. Oh my life. So good !!!! xx

The food was very good and amazing value for money. The place was very well managed with everyone welcomed with warmth.the waiting team do a great job as well.

Most of the food was OK but totally lacked any "punch", my lamb bhuna was watery and lacked spice but was Ok. Shortcomings were made up for by fun staff who enjoyed a laugh with us. Service was very slow despite restaurant being nearly empty. A restaurant that needs to try harder,

We often order from kohinoor because it’s quite a bit cheaper than some of the other curry houses in town and has, for the most part, been nice. The last few meals we’ve ordered have been, however, quite unpleasant, which is mainly down to the fact the curries and side dishes are SO oily/greasy. Now I know you don’t get an Indian takeaway expecting pure health because of course a lot of it is cooked in butter/ghee but nowhere else have I opened up a curry to see it with about a 1cm layer of oil at the top. It was like this in every dish we ordered. I don’t mind a bit of oil but it made it unpleasant to eat. I also found that their naan breads are super doughy and underdone. The next time we ordered it was from Moonlight and it was much fresher and nicer.

Very friendly staff. Food was overall very good, recommend the chicken garlic marsala. They did their own coconut chutney with the popadoms, which was good.

The restaurant was very clean and the food was delicious and good value. The portions were generous and the food was hot. The staff were friendly, chatty and efficient. Would definitely recommend. We were pleasantly surprised at the prices.

Visited recently for dinner. Attentive and friendly service. The mixed starter was good with nice flavours, the onion bahji's however were not to the same standard, more like shop bought. The mains were tasty and the lamb in particular well cooked. My only criticism perhaps was that the sauces looked like a stock sauce, so in fact the Balti and the Rogan Josh tasted exactly the same. That said they were very nice and were quickly consumed. The bill then arrived, and I was surprised what good value it all was, not the rip off that some other places would have been.

Lovely curry here staff very friendly and helpful.nice clean restaurant.if back in Sudbury again will definitely come back.

We told the owner our son had a nut allergy, asking his advice which dishes could he eat and to make sure no cross nut contamination, after that he still had a nut reaction, the owner after we were leaving said he could not guarantee nut-free food, He should have said that when we booked & told him and again at the table. this is very dangerous, our son was up all night, that was no cross-contamination,

The delivery was later than we were advised (this happens every time from this Indian) but on this occasion the order was incomplete with an item missing. We rang up and were told that it would be a long time before they could get it out to us. We therefore asked for a credit (already disappointed) and were told we could not have any money back as the item was part of a meal. I have still paid for it as was expecting a meal sso in short, Kohinoor think they don't have to deliver your food but can charge you for it any way. Terrible service and we will not use them again. I would also advise others not to based on our experience.

We used to use other Indian resturants in Sudbury when a friend recommended the Kohinoor - since that first visit we have returned many times. The food is excellent and the guys are fantastic with the customers - what more could you want ?

One of my favourites in town. Have never had a bad order and is great value for money. Have eaten in and had takeaway. Will be returning in future.

Got a takeaway around 6 months ago which took nearly 3 hours to arrive so have not used again until last night.

The food was excellent again. Had my birthday party here earlier in the year as well. The restaurant was full and the food was excellent again. Come here every year for our scouts Christmas meal and as usual everything was excellent. Can’t fault all the staff on anything so polite and accommendating.

Arrived at 7.15 for my 30th Birthday. At 9.02 am still waiting on our main. No unable to eat them after as taxi and train to get (that staff were aware of). So now am waiting for my food to take away to eat on the train. Will not be returning unless forced to.

I'm sitting here two and a half hours after we arrived, booked a fortnight ago and our meal has just turned up. Ridiculous

Obviously can't cope with more than 3 people at a time waited over 2 1/2 hours for food an absolute joke. No staff and one person in the kitchen and they call themselves a restaurant. I certainly wouldn't recommend if you actually want food.

We thought that we'd try out the Kohinoor as our favourite Indian in Sudbury had a wedding. The restaurant was not busy but we were kept waiting ten minutes whilst they sorted out the table for two. When we were seated we were offered poppodums and chutney which we had. The poppodums arrived but were stale and the chutneys tasted horrible. I had a pint of Kingfisher. When it was clear that we weren't going to eat any more of the stale starter, they eventually came back for the main order. By that time we had been in the restaurant for nearly 3/4 hour. I paid for what we had eaten and left to find somewhere better.

We eat here alot, this has always been our favourite, we have tried many others around but we keep coming back to this one, the food is amazing and huge portions, the menu is incredible and the staff are wonderful, we can never quite get over the price, its so good, the quality of the food is always outstanding, never had a bad experience here, if you don't try it you have missed out big time.

We ordered many dishes for a party, all tasty fresh and good, Order was delivered when they said they would (we pre-ordered) and good value. Excellent, will use again.

Intrinsically speaking this is a very good restaurant and very pleasant people and attentive & informative to the clientele, excellent food, we’ll priced, A very good variety of food on the menu. Stopped for a meal whilst staying nearby, ourselves and another couple were the only ones in on a cold Sunday evening, however the takeaway side seemed to be doing a roaring trade.

Used to be good, food not always as fresh at it could be, cocky front of house young staff, arrogant, delivery drivers sat on their phones with a packet of fags on the table, dirty table cloths etc. shame, was a great place a few years ago.

On advice of locals went here and it's as great. Massive portions and very reasonably priced. Staff very chatty and friendly. Wish it was my local.

First time using this restaurant and looking forward to it only to be disappointed by its non-arrival! Phoned restaurant only to receive a man reading his sorry speech but didn't seem to really care! One & a half hours we was told for delivery but would have been a three hour wait, which wasn't possible as we have young children. Would not recommend!!!!

I’ve been coming here for years usually after the Chappell Beer Festival and it’s always a hoot. The kind of place that some people are dismissive of as it isn’t the poshest looking Indian restaurant in the world but this is well countered by really good food – the starters are cooked fresh not warmed up like a lot of places - very reasonable prices (£60.00 for three with plenty of beer) and nice easy-going service. In Sudbury, the best Indian restaurant. Also, you can park right outside the door at night. If I didn’t live in Bury St Edmunds, where there is nowhere like this available, I would be in here at least once a month.

We travel from Colchester to this wonderful place, amazing food and fantastic service, the smells and tastes in the food are out of this world.

Our family go this resturamt reguarly and love it! The portion sizes are very reasonable and the prices are relatively low for the quality of food. The tandoori chicken especially is a personal favourite of mine. Would recommend going to for special events as the customer service is astounding.

This place is the most reasonably priced Indian I have come across in a long time. Very good value for money. The tandoori chicken is to die for. The staff our lovely too. Recommend it highly.

been here a few times with friends and has been consistently good. people seem to bang on about ballingdon valley but this one is much better value and easier to get to . will be coming back.

ive been to this indian a few times now[since 2009] the food never ever disappoints,you get big portions and tastes great,it did take awhile to come,and the staff not too bothered about what you think of the food etc,young staff!!! prices are very good.i would say overall its worth a visit

Went at lunchtime but they were closed, the door was open but I couldn't raise anyone. Went back in the evening and ordered a chicken curry takeaway with naan bread. The chicken was hard and dry, the curry sauce was oily and greasy, the naan bread was soggy! The waiting staff were very young and not particularly bothered about serving me. The takeaway menu states they are open at lunchtime and seven days a week, but they are not open at lunchtime and there is a note sellotaped to the counter stating they are no longer open on Tuesdays. Altogether a disappointing experience.

I was here with my German colleagues who were excited about the Indian food... Menu looked good and we ordered starters... It looked pretty weird... I requested the waiter to cut it in pieces for us... He was so rude and replied 'I think you are old enough to cut it yourself'! After that, chicken and lamb was not at all tender! Hardest thing ever... The food tasted atrocious... On the menu they gave lot of beers, but nothing is available... Trust me guys, this was is not even worth calling food, forget Indian food!

We always have a meal in this restaurant when we are in town. The food is good, the portions are plentiful. Friendly and helpful staff too.

Recently visited kohinoor for a Saturday night meal. First thing I noticed was that all of the front of house staff were no older than 18 (if that). This wouldn't usually have been a problem, however we waited a while to order and they were more interested in socialising rather than the customers. When the food arrived, the Popadoms were burnt and the curries were extremely greasy, to the extent where the curry was unpleasant and ended up giving us upset stomachs! We will not be returning for this reason.

It's a small restaurant and the location is tough for parking, being on the main road. But it's worth it, the food is lovely, being a standard offering of Indian food, however, the intimacy of the restaurant and the friendly service really make it a nice experience. Park in the square and walk round, it takes five minutes and it's good to walk off your dinner on the way back to the car.

Situated behind the high street, came as a recommendation from a local. Do not be put off by its appearance. Food was excellent. Service by the two young lads was very good, they could not stop smiling and being happy. Great customer service. Great meal, reasonably priced.

We were in early in the evening and there didn't seem to be a waiter on hand just some chap who looked like a cleaner. Anyway it got much better and the food was fresh and excellent. Service was attentive and unobtrusive.

Takeaway service is so slow, pretty much 2 hours before the food turned up after constantly being told it was on the way. I'm guessing that it was an authentic Indian takeaway delivered from New Delhi!! Will not be using again!

I have always found the food at Kohinoor to be very good, the service is always excellent and the staff to be very helpful and friendly. If you like Indian Cuisine, I would definitely recommend eat here.

Have used this Indian for 10 years, good food but recently service has hit the flaw. They are completely understaffed, phones ringing constantly, no one to answer, ordered drink whilst waiting for take away but too busy. Time to find an alternative.

We ordered a takeaway to be delivered. Although the delivery took longer than hoped, when it came all elements of the meal were delicious!

Often visit but last Friday all fell apart and meal not served ( long long delay)so had to leave as did some other customers.Too much time on take aways and not diners I think

We get a takeaway from Kohinoor every so often and it's always perfect.The food is lovely, the staff are friendly and the food is always ready to collect when they say it will be.

Best Curry in town. Food is always excellent. I have only eaten in the restaurant once & that was very pleasant. I think from that experience I always order a take away from them and I've never had a bad one yet.

This is the nicest Indian food I have had. We love it there. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. Quality food. Lovely staff.

We use the Kohinoor as a family, regularly, sometimes twice in one week. Over the years the food has been of a good standard but recently we have noticed a marked upswing in the quality of the dishes served. The food is excellent, the staff friendly and competent and the prices are fantastic value. These are the reasons I felt I would write a review, this is a gem in Sudbury that could well be overlooked. Give it a try!

Fantastic food with a fabulous variety of dishes to choose from, if it aint on the menu and you want it then the chef will cook it for you, great service, very polite and very clean.

I ate here one evening just after they opened in the early evening. They were doing quite a bit of trade on take-aways', with only one or two tables taken in the restaurants itself. The starter was very tasty with enough spice in the lamb and the lamb not over-cooked. Well-done. My main came and it looked good again and there was plenty of it. However, half-way through eating the main there was an issue. The front of kitchen staff dealt with the issue reasonably, but what a great shame. Without going into details one hopes they have addressed this issue at the restaurant??

Went out for what I thought would be a pleasant Saturday evening with my husband, would have been better to stay at home. My poor husband spent the whole time we were there being knocked every time someone went past him as he was on the outside. Please remember owner's son it is not very pleasant to be told that we had not ordered enough food so therefore it did not matter that we were only on a table for two and therefore in a very squashed environment whilst empty tables were available! We were paying restaurant prices whilst sitting in a cafe environment. Never again. The food was ok. The evening horrible. Perhaps you need to think very carefully about the 'restaurant' layout.

I've been using this restaurant for a number of years, in fact I was the first person to review it back in December 2012 (and we'd been using it for a fair while before then). Its where we go as a family for meals that are not a special occasion, our 'everyday' Indian if you like. My 18 year old daughter loves it here, and this was the first time we took her boyfriend (not local) along.The staff here are very friendly, and the menu is not overly long or complicated, and above all (compared to others) affordable.The main reason I'm reviewing the Kohinoor again though is the food. As stated before we are (fairly) regular, and have been here several times but I would go as far to say this was the best meal we've eaten here. I do however appreciate that the night we visited was very quiet so the staff weren't rushing and had time to produce their best. I won't go into details about what everyone had except to say that everything was cooked and spiced superbly.The last time I reviewed here 4 stars, this time 5....Well done!

I have been to this restaurant on several occasions and always really enjoyed the atmosphere and the food, however, on my most recent visit I found the waiting staff to be overly concerned about how my meal was and trying to convince me to have another drink. I was on soft drinks as I was driving but I can imagine it would be very easy to have one too many if alcohol was involved!

A little over priced but still one of the best in Sudbury very polite and quick delivery can't go wrong with this place

Fantastic food, brilliant attentive, friendly service, very clean does not look much from out side think because of location, but food & service certainly makes up for this !! Just put thenone date but we do try to go at least once a month

This restaurant is our destination choice for our area and as such when some very good friends came some distance to visit we booked a table without hesitation. On previous occasions the restaurant has been reassuringly busy. The service was of a consistently high standard and the food,as always, was plentiful and delicious. The issue on this occasion was the decision to admit three large and poorly behaved parties all at the same time. This resulted in our leaving long before our planned time as the noise level was entirely unacceptable. Conversation was impossible. I accept my £75 bill wouldn't come close to the take of the combined parties but we didn't deserve our evening ruined and suffering the embarrassment in front of our guests. Finally the blond waiter that actually kicked my leg on his way past without acknowledging let alone apologising in any way is not typical of the service I'm used to here, and genuinely hope this experience is not the shape of the future.

Friendly staff, lovely food not too expensive! Much more meat in the dishes than you get at bally vally. Recommend if you want your money's worth! Good food

In all honesty this restaurant had nothing bad at all ; it was just averageFood was quite tasty but over cooked in that pre-prepared uninspired indian restaurant way - service was fine, portions were large and prices reasonable

We went as a family - all adults - on Saturday evening. Warm welcome as normal. The food well cooked, good portions. They cooked a special dish we like which is not on the menu, thank you. It was extremely busy with a couple of tables with eight people on each so the staff were extremely busy but still managed to look after us with drinks when required. Well worth a visit for well priced, great food. .

Visited this Indian for the first time this weekend and was shocked by the terrible service. Numerous issues throughout the evening. After telling us they needed to go to the local shop before we could have any drinks we also had a long wait for our food.While clearing our plates away one member of our party had food and cutlery dropped on him, after this we also had the tablecloth taken off whilst we had not yet finished our drinks or paid the bill. The food portions were okay & the price wasn't too bad however my dish had very little taste to it Much better Indians can be found around this area so my advice would be to stay well clear of this establishment.

Overall very good.Have been to the restaurant and also used there takeaway delivery service.Have not had a bad meal, its always been good food and good service at a more reasonable price than most. The only reason i am writing this review as on the last take away we had the poppadoms were stale.It was not a big deal and they were still edible but it spoil t the otherwise faultless experience. I would have preferred to drop them an email to inform them of this error but there does not seam to be a web site or email address available to contact them on.would recommend , just watch out for the poppadoms.

Stopped here for dinner on a recent business trip. The interior is fine and I am sure later in the evening, it could even look cosy. The food was OK but not fantastic. This is not to be derogatory, it's just the bog standard Indian/Bangladeshi fare and it hits the spot. The service however seemed very slow despite what looked like only a few take-out customers coming in. Overall, worth a look but not keep your expectations at "curry house" level.

Visited Kohinoor again for the second time with very good friends. We did book as it was a Saturday night and were given a table away from the busy doorway serving takeaway which was a relief. The food was very good, staff attentive and friendly. Plenty to eat from a wide menu choice. Prices very good. I cannot really think of anything that I wasn't happy with! Will definitely be going again.

We had an average meal - it wasn't offensive in the slightest but we've had better. The atmosphere was good with a nice buzz even on a Tuesday night. Staff were friendly and helpful and didn't rush us at all which was nice as we were chatting with friends. Food was ok but the amount of meat in some of the dishes was less than we expected and they were just the normal Indian fare. Nice place though - might go again

We went in early March for a special occasion with relatives who have never been there.The staff were friendly as normal and helpful but we had to wait at least 1 hour plus between courses. Unfortunately people who came in before us had their food and left before we even had our main course. Take outs seem to have priority. I can understand this in some ways as probably during the week they are the main source of income. Also they seem to be short staff. The starters was unfortunate as the table was not prepared to receive the sizzling food, no plates with salad so we had to compromise. Pity as the food was wonderful once we received it. Get some more staff please.

We have eaten here quite a few times, the restaurant is always accommodating, the staff are nice and friendly and there is a nice feel to the restaurant, the food is always good, and served well, we often use it for family do's because it's got a pleasant atmosphere.

A recent visit to this local Indian restaurant was extremely pleasant.Good service with attentive staff and a great indian meal.

Mixed reviews on here which i read before booking. Easy to park and we were seated immediately. The food was excellent, as was the service in terms of courtesy. However, the service was very slow BUT we sat down at 7pm on a Saturday evening and the place was rammed , so maybe we just picked the busiest time. We will definitely go back.

Have had some really good meals here and have also had some really bad experiences too. This time it was very oily and a bit tasteless. Have never been happy about there hygiene rating, but they are no better than most Indian restaurants in the area that even fall short of the 3 the Kohinoor achieved.

Wide selection of Indian and Bangladeshi food served quickly. Pleasant staff and surroundings but our table cloth had ahole in it as big as an orange! However,this did not detract from a delicious and most enjoyable meal.

I went to Kohinoor at the weekend and had a lovely meal. The service was good, the wine and wine selection good and all of this for a very reasonable price. Well done.

Managed to get a table last minute. Asked to be moved from the table by the kitchen, no problem they moved as straight away. Food excellent, hot, fresh herbs, large portions,nothing negative. Reasonably priced, no shocks.. Asked to call a taxi for us, no problem. Waiters friendly but not hovering, so we could talk. Better food than we have had in another Indian in Sudbury. Definitely would go again.

Have been using this restaurant for a while but its one of the few restaurants in Sudbury that hasn't been reviewed so thought I'd be the first.The Kohinoor is not a special occasion kind of restaurant and the menu for an Indian is somewhat limited, though in my opinion, many Indian restaurants tend to have overblown, over complicated menus.What this place acheives is a friendly atmosphere, reasonably good quality food at reasonable prices. Its not the sort of place you'd visit for a special occasion, but if you fancy a curry and don't want to spend a fortune, you could do much worse.Highlights are the starters, especially chicken pakora's to die for....and my 15 year old daughter loves it here!
