Traditional cafe, good service, dog friendly, cheap and cheerful food (excellent milkshakes) small indoors but very accommodating for our larger party

The "manager" tore a strip off a poor staff member in front of the whole cafe. Absolutely disgraceful. As a manager myself, there is no way I'd ever speak to my staff like that. The manager even tried to justify her actions when another customer challenged her! I hope the poor girl is OK, I won't ever return.

We were walking past and one of the children had asked for hot chocolate. I popped my head in but there didn’t look as is there was a table available. The owner said don’t worry we will put tables together. The coffees and hot chocolates were lovely and a reasonable price

What a great cafe! We loved it. The service was fantastic and attentive and the food was lovely. The cakes are to die for. Highly recommended.

Went here having been to another establishment in Uppermill where people with allergies were definitely not catered for. The owner of Fika went above and beyond!! One of our family is unable to have dairy or soya due to her 10 month old being intolerant to these ingredients if her mummy has it. We asked about this as there wasn’t anything on the menu about it. The lady explained what was available, how she could cater for her and her little one and that nothing would come into contact with any of the ingredients which affect them. She brought their food out first to ensure that it was kept completely separate. She made up a separate little meal of humour and toast for the little one and checked and double checked ingredients in the pre packed foods she used! Prices also extremely reasonable! We were holidaying in the area but will 100% go back when we are up that way again! Thank you so much.

Poor attitude from the manager/owner. Ordered hot drinks and scones. Given the option of warm or cold scones. We chose warm. After some discussion about whether scones could be warmed due to chips being in the microwave it was decided this was possible. Our drinks arrived but it became increasingly clear that the scones were still waiting for their turn in the microwave. I asked for them to be served cold instead as my drink was going cold. The manager told me I should have asked for drinks to be served with food. I don’t know anybody who orders cake and coffee with the intention of consuming them entirely separately. She clearly felt she had not made her position clear as she came to the table to reiterate that in future I should stipulate that I want my cake at the same time as drinks. I politely informed her that there would not be a return visit. When we asked for the bill she audibly told the waitress she would prepare it but would not bring it over. I was not disappointed by this as another exchange with her was hardly appealing. The environmental is cluttered and as unappealing as the manager.

First time I’ve been here and it won’t be the last. The latte and sausage and bacon muffins are gorgeous. The staff were polite, friendly and attentive. I’d definitely recommend this place.

Had afternoon tea with my daughter, Val the owner could not do enough for us, sandwiches and cakes were excellent, lovely atmosphere, I would definitely recommend a visit and will be returning.

Tried this place numerous times but have witnessed too many instances now of the owner being rude . Under pressure today but no need to speak to the young waitress as she did ,I found myself feeling really uncomfortable . Insists on having the windows and front door open even when it is chilly. We got up a number of times to shut the door . Customers not allowed to sit where they want to sit ...I could go on So in future we will be giving it a miss

My husband and I visited Fika with our 4 year old granddaughter and my sister over from Germany and her partner who has never been to England before. We’ve all had an amazing time until we called in for lunch at Fika on Monday! We were seated and the smaller menu was explained due to the heat which was fine but then I got out the cheese sandwich I’d prepared for our granddaughter as she prefers this to shop food. As we were about to order the manageress said she didn’t allow food from home to be eaten on the premises, I explained she was just 4 years old and we would be ordering for 4 adults, food and drinks. No this wasn’t acceptable and she began to raise her voice and shouted ‘you wouldn’t take your own gin to the pub!’ Oh my goodness we have NEVER come across this before. She was so extremely rude and very loud and said we wouldn’t find anywhere else in Uppermill that would accept a small child eating a homemade sandwich! Well Mrs EXTREMELY RUDE MANAGERESS, you were wrong, we had a full choice of menu and a delightful lunch with exceptionally personable staff who couldn’t do enough for us at The Waggon Inn just down the road. Reading other reviews it’s clear you have no idea how to present yourself to your customers who, like us, were just looking to have a nice lunch in pleasant surroundings. The world and life is tough enough for many right now so a little bit of kindness would go a long way!! This is NOT a place I shall be visiting again.

My wife and I visited on 18th July, we had two friends with us from Germany who wanted to go into a real English cafe, and also our granddaughter who is 4 yrs old. We were offered a table for 5 which was a good start, We were given the menu and told that there was a limited menu because of the heatwave, And again that was fine as we wanted cold food anyway, but then it went rapidly downhill from here on……my granddaughter is a bit finicky with her food and will only eat my homemade cheese sandwiches, we explained this but the snotty manageress took great delight in shouting at the top of her voice that we were not allowed to eat our own food , all the customers in the cafe were looking at us, she then added several times that “ you wouldn’t take your own gin to a pub would you” we tried to reason with her but it was like trying to talk to a wild animal. She was shouting so loud that she was spitting and our granddaughter was getting upset, we pointed this out to her but she kept on shouting, so we got up and walked out. We went just down the road to a pub called The Waggon, we asked the staff if it was ok if our granddaughter could eat our sandwiches and were told of course and welcomed with open arms, we had a lovely meal with drinks and it was cheaper than Fika. The manageress of Fika needs to go to anger management classes and it won’t be long before it closes if she treated all her customers like she treated us. Give this place a wide berth.

Wonderful cafe with Vegan options. My son & I were treated superbly and the staff were simply awesome. Highly recommended.

We called here for breakfast today, as we've been several times in the past and have always enjoyed the food and the friendly service. It became quickly apparent that the place has changed hands and the customer service has taken a dive. We were 'greeted' by a miserable manageress who first of all had us waiting a while then informed us we couldn't sit where we wanted, only where she wanted us to sit. We were refused a four seat table, 'as there are only two of you'. The two seater tables are tiny and as we wanted full breakfasts, there wouldn't be enough space, so we left and won't be going back. Incidentally, two doors away from this place we found another cafe 'The Cellar Pot' in the basement of the Post Office. It turned out to be a much nicer place, excellent value for money, superb breakfast and lovely staff. So take my advice and give Fika a swerve in favour of the Cellar Pot.

Absolutely awful. I called in for a takeaway ham salad sandwich the owner asked me if I wanted brown or white bread so I asked what bread it was and she said it was hovis or plain white so I asked can I have it on a muffin to which she opened another drawer and said oh ive found one! She then asked me what flavour crisps do I want? I said I didn't want crisps but she said no it comes with crisps! The poor waitress asked the owner how much to charge to which the owner belittled her and raised her voice saying it is what it is on the menu! She charged me £6.20 so I thought I'd be getting a monster of a sandwich but what a let down it was a wafer thin piece of ham with lettuce cucumber and tomato. No onions or egg just plain and basic! And a packet of walkers cheese and onion. When she handed me my sandwich she said ive put napkins in the bag and il even throw a knife and fork in as its a big sandwich. Im sure she was being sarcastic! I would be embarrassed offering a basic sandwich for that price! What a joke.

We come here regularly now as a family as the service is always nice and bubbly and the food is loved! With 3 kids it’s hard to find a place where they all like to eat but when we come here they are always happy!

Val and the fantastic team at Fika helped me to host my Baby Shower on Saturday and we had a really excellent experience. From my very first enquiry, Val was friendly, kind and helpful... nothing was too much trouble. We had use of the whole room downstairs and had afternoon tea for 25 people which was a lovely setting next to the river. Fika is clean, tidy and very welcoming and they will happily cater for all dietary needs including vegetarians, gluten free and peanut allergy. The attention to detail in this area is particularly outstanding. Afternoon tea was served on pretty vintage cake stands and the portions were very generous for a really reasonable price. You could easily pay £25.00 + per head at other places and get mass-produced food in small portions... so don't bother! Head to Fika for homemade perfection from people who really care. If 6 stars was an option, then that would have been our rating. Thank you very much again. xXx

Picked up lattes and hot panini's after a walk. Lamb kofta panini was well filled and tasty. The beef brisket panini was also full of tender meat, though it was missing the cheese it should have had.

Had a takeaway mint hot chocolate, which was delicious and my wife agreed. We’d previously sat in for Tuna melts and had takeaway pecan pie with both extremely good. Highly recommended.

Very disappointed.. Tea brought ages before food so we had drunk it all.. We asked for a refill and found when paying the bill we were charged nearly £5 extra for the tea to drink with the afternoon tea... First time I have ever been charged for another cup of tea in these circumstances. Not keen on the triangle crunchy cake things and sandwiches were very basic. Would not go again

Staff were all lovely and the food was extremely tasty and very well presented. The lamb kofta panini although was very nice it could have done with a bit more lamb especially for £7.10.

We have recently moved to the area so we have been looking for a Cafe that we can visit regularly. Utterly disappointed with our experience at Fika; the food wasn't good, a bit tasteless (the soup) and the chicken was dry the chef was (I think she was the owner) speaking to the employees was atrocious. She raised her voice numerous times at them, said things like "she's got two chances, bob hope and no hope", asking the waitresses to keep a record of what they were writing down so she could check them at the end of the day (probably to raise her voice at them again). We spoke to the chef about this and she tried to explain that 'we had no idea the amount of mistakes that were made' and we both said that we understand that mistakes are made but to speak to the employees the way she had was unacceptable. I've worked as a waitress and in the kitchen and I understand how stressful it can be, but thats no excuse to speak to people the way she had. Not only that, but the kitchen was in a state, dirty plates and glasseswere put on the floor. After we raised our concerns, she told us to take our business elsewhere which we absolutely will - we will also be sure to pass our experience onto other people in the area and tell them to avoid!

Food was lovely! Great selection and quick service. Normally a lovely atmosphere and staff are very friendly. However my visit was let down by the way the manager was speaking to the staff. From where I was sat I could clearly hear the rude manner in which she was speaking to the staff. At one point I thought the waitress was going to cry. she also spoke to the young lad who was on work experience in a rude demanding manner. Such a shame as the staff are always friendly and attentive but I just felt very sorry for them as she was being so rude and unkind towards them.

We turned up as regular customers with my wife who is in a wheelchair , all staff made great efforts to get her into the establishment , made sure she had access to all the facilities . Food was excellent a really good choice after sandwiches cakes and assorted pastries , tea and coffee , and goodly selection of wines and Prosecco . I would highly recommend a visit . If you have people with special dietary requirements a quick phone call prior to visiting and all needs will b err catered for

We are regular visitors to this place and can not speak more highly of the food, staff and the owners. I have just however read the “Appalling” review (below) and I have to disagree with it (we were also there!). That large party made our experience completely out of the ordinary. They were loud, disruptive, argumentative and one in particular seemed to be enjoying herself by intimidating the young waitresses who were professional at all times, along with the owner. In the end me and my family asked to be moved upstairs (the atmosphere was becoming more like a pub by this stage!). I can 100% say neither the food nor the staff were ‘Appalling’. Our wait for food that day was explained before we had even sat down (30 mins). Eventually the atmosphere returned to it’s normal enjoyable/relaxing self and our food was delicious as always.

An absolutely beautiful baby shower held in the ground floor area of the restaurant. The afternoon tea was delicious and plentiful! Stunning cake and macaroons. The lady in charge was amazing. Nothing was too much trouble. She made the whole experience relaxing and enjoyable and made sure that everyone had a lovely time. I would highly recommend. Thank you for a fantastic afternoon.

10 people on a Sunday morning which ought to be good business. However the service was appalling and the owner was even worse. She was confrontational and rude and mentioned " ripping the head off the young waitress" who got our order wrong. Even tongue in cheek these comments are completely unacceptable. The grumpy rude owner did point out a 30 minute wait when we sat down. We were scratching our heads to see why as there were only 3 other customers. However after 50 minutes wait only half the party had received food and we decided to leave. At this point the rude lady was not around but none of the 4 staff attempted to rescue the situation! Masters of their own destiny, in time, I predict!

Great place , wonderful friendly staff who are very helpful & cheerful. Coffee is up there with the best !

A lovely afternoon tea served on authentic afternoon tea stands with lovely China tea cups and tea tops. Excellent range of cakes served with the afternoon tea and proper clotted cream.

Went with 2 friends, one of them struggling after an illness. They made us feel so welcome and couldn't do enough. We had a lovely afternoon tea with gorgeous fresh sandwiches and bottomless good tea. Lovely.

We visited this gorgeous cafe yesterday for the best tasting breakfast I have had in a long time! The scrambled eggs were amazing and the plate was so well presented. It is in a lovely location and at a very resonable price. We were made to feel very welcome and were able to fit 3 adults and a buggy around a table without getting in the way. The cappuccino was lovely too! Keep up the good work guys.

Tasty and generously filled lamb kofta panini and fabulous warm cherry scone with jam & clotted cream. The only criticism is that the teas arrived promptly but we waited about 20 minutes for the food. It’d have been better if the drinks arrival had been timed nearer the food.

Came a few weeks ago and service was very slow, food came cold and the cakes were very dry. Drinks were ok but what made me decide not to go back was the rude woman (assuming the owner) who was shouting at her staff.

Visit here on quite a regular basis and always get a lovely service. Nothing too much trouble, staff always have welcoming smiles. Toast bacon bagel is always my go to breakfast choice - delicious. Best coffee on the high street.

We have been here once a few weeks ago. The coffee and cake were lovely. The prices were great for Uppermill. There were quite a few lovely young girls waiting on but the owner/manager a middle aged lady seemed really grumpy with them. One of the girls looked terrified. It felt a little awkward because I think she felt nobody could hear her.

We had a baby shower booked downstairs for 25 people. The waiting staff couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble. The afternoon tea was lovely and great quality for the low price. The food and atmosphere was very enjoyable.

Just spent a lovely afternoon in Fika. My first visit but definitely won’t be my last. The afternoon tea was a real treat, lovely, fresh sandwiches & cakes & a proper cup/pot of tea. The staff were so lovely & nothing was too much trouble & the owners took time to chat to us. It’s so lovely when you are not rushed or feel pressured to leave. I highly recommend Fika. Owner treats staff appallingly in front of customers to the point they were in tears! She is a vile woman that is rude to customers and her own staff, the food was atrocious, waited over an hour for a cheese toastie, save your money and DO NOT go here!!!

Called in here for a quick snack and drink while driving from village to village and trying to avoid the rain. Food was good and staff pleasant. Certainly didn't have the same experience as the two previous reviewers. Would call again.

If shop owners had to have morals, this place would not be open. Save your time and money and go elsewhere.

Good selection of tasty breakfast options including veggie choices. We had a table with a lovely view of the river but the most distinctive feature is the excellent and friendly service. My daughter particularly liked the pash'n'shoot smoothie!

I bought a groupon afternoon tea and it was lovely,and such good value. The Resteraunt is really nice and comfortable and there’s plenty of room for diners.

We held my daughter in laws baby shower here, lovely staff and the high tea was delicious, homemade cakes and scones , you can have a glass of prosecco with your high tea if you like. Highly recommended we had a lovely afternoon thank you

I was apprehensive coming here because of the name. We have “Fika” at work, basically a weekly stand up meeting that’s pure, grade A toss. Imagine a pep talk by Alan Partridge with Richard Madeley mixed in. You can see why I hate the idea of Fika.

Will not go again.we waited an hour for our order .when we complained we was called a liar .by a nasty waitress.they then took our order away.we saw 10 other customers come in and got served while we was waiting.but stilled called a liar.wont go there again

Bought a groupon voucher for afternoon tea. Booked through Groupon as that what it tells you to do. On arrival with my elderly mother was told they aren’t redeeming the vouchers. Gave me several different excuses as to why. Told me it wasn’t his problem and sent us packing. Very embarrassing. Won’t be bothering again. Have reported to Groupon.

I visited Fika with my three daughters. The plan was to have afternoon tea, but two of my daughters decided to have falafel paninis as they liked the sound of them. Another daughter had an Italian panini, which had meatballs in. All paninis came with a large side salad and couscous. The girls made light work of them, as they were delicious.

Never having visited Fika before we were delighted to try afternoon tea as I had received a voucher for my Mother's day treat. We felt thouroughly spoilt, everything was very tasty and served by the smiling staff. Sandwiches, ample cakes and scones with a drink of coffee if this is what you prefer. They insisted we took home the lovely and unusual cakes we had been unable to finish. What a lovely gift this proved to be.

Excellent little café on the High street in Uppermill by the river bridge. Very friendly and helpful service. Ploughman’s sandwich was very good, and you can’t leave here without trying some of the gorgeous cakes. There are gluten free and vegan options as well. This is a very family- friendly café and prices are reasonable too. Will have to return soon to try an Afternoon tea!

Visiting area house hunting and had breakfast at Fika. Food was fantastic and everyone was very friendly. Definitely the place for breakfast.

Nice view from the downstairs window onto the river. Staff very helpful and friendly. Had coffee first then ordered lunch, I had a jacket potato with tuna which came as ordered, no butter on the potato and no dressing on the salad. Busy but still spaces, obviously a popular place, would definitely go back when I'm in the area.

New job in Uppermill so thought I’d look for a cafe. So hard to find as everywhere always looks closed or can’t tell which is a shop and which is a cafe, I’m sure I’ll get the hang of it. I saw Fika as I walked past and noticed chairs outside so I went in. What a lovely place it is, the lady owner was a delight, and was very attentive and greeted me as soon as I came in. I ordered a full breakfast but on seeing what two ladies had just had delivered I wished I’d ordered the afternoon tea, it was massive slices of cakes and substantial sandwiches. I couldn’t stop staring but soon forgot about it when my meal came. Very well presented and hot, all lovely sized portions and was delicious. The latte was lovely and I’m so pleased the lady owner mentioned that I could have one shot or two shots of coffee, I opted for one and a bit and it was just perfect as another place on high street, their coffee is so strong I won’t go back but to be offered a choice of strength was refreshing. Next time I will sit downstairs by the river as I believe you can. It’s not often I’ve experienced service like that so I did give a tip and I will definitely come back for the afternoon tea, I do believe you have to book in advance though. I just wished I’d taken a picture to show you.

I brought my hubby and two children (8 & 14) and received the warmest welcome I've ever had before. The owner invited us in and looked after us like I've never seen before. Usually customers come in, eat, pay and leave but this lady is really Interested in getting things perfect. When my 8 year old complained about the flavour of something she went off and arranged a substitute. Lovely lady, lovely raspberry creme sponge cake, nice surroundings and cosy cafe. Might go again later today!

The premises are in a fabulous location, next to the water if seated downstairs. It has lost all the charm that Kitty's had and previously you struggled to get a seat but there was plenty of seating. Cake was very very dry, I imagine they have been out for a few days and certainly didn't taste home made but cheap shop bought. The girls who work there are polite and lovely. Proper home cooking with good quality home made cakes are needed

Popped in for a tea and cake. Had a slice of banoffee cake with a cup of loose leaf tea with the hubby. Cake was delicious! Would recommend 😊

Popped in whilst waiting for a shop to open. The young couple were very friendly and welcoming. Ordered a flat white coffee and a ginger and orange millionaire’s slice, just gorgeous, the flavours complimented each other perfectly. I ordered a second coffee but resisted another piece of cake. Call in when next in Uppermill.

Such a cosy little place to pop in for afternoon tea after a long winter walk. Particularly love the sandwiches as they always fill them to the brim. Gorgeous selection of hot drinks as well.

Called in for my normal cappuccino after an early morning bike ride. They do porridge-with honey! Who knew. I can recommend it as it was lovely. Ideal on a crisp autumnal morning. The dry cappuccino was great too as always. Thanks Fika.

our daughter bought me a voucher from Groupon for 4 persons we went with our 2 year old grandson we chose a selection sandwiches and the waitress said to choose an additional set so she could box one up !

Our favourite breakfast spot when staying in Uppermill. Great food, pleasant staff, and a lovely view of the river - you can watch dippers and grey wagtails foraging while you eat.

Lovely Homemade soup (Tomato and red pepper) and sandwich (Ploughmans) combo with specials on offer and views of the river.

Just had afternoon tea and it was delicious. We had a Groupon voucher but even if we had paid full price it woud have been excellent value for money. Two of us upgraded to include a glass of prosseco as we were celebrating our birthdays. We had a choice of sandwiches, scone with jam and clotted cream, large slice of cake and 2 small cakes each. My daughter had gluten free sandwich, scone, jam and cream and 2 slices of cake. Our waitress, Anna, was lovely, nothing too much trouble. Can highly recommend

We booked for 3:30pm, but arrived over a hour early, they said there was room and booked us in, even though they were busy.

We made a reservation for an afternoon tea two days ago when we were on the terrace for some drinks in the sun.

My wife and I went to this place for afternoon tea and were not disappointed,The whole place was clean and looked so inviting,the afternoon tea was as good as we have had anywhere and our table overlooked the river which added to a completely enjoyable afternoon.Looking forward to visiting again soon.

Something for everyone! The food was wonderfully presented and tasted fab. Would love to come back for afternoon tea one day!

Went for afternoon tea with my daughter. Firstly the waitress we had was exceptional, very friendly and a delight to be served by her.

Visited Fifa today for my mum in laws birthday. We ordered the afternoon tea option with a glass of prosecco. The sandwiches were fresh, and the homemade scones delightful. The setting was very pleasant indeed. The staff were very attentive and professional. I has a few queries prior to our visit and the prompt replies via Facebook were grateful received, would highly recommend,

visited yesterday with my Mum. Salmon and cream cheese and chicken and stuffing sandwiches were fresh and tasty. Scones tasted homemade and the cakes were soft and fluffy. Loose leaf tea and coffee served with a choice of hot or cold milk. Efficient and friendly service. Can highly recommend.

We had afternoon tea at fika midweek in June.

Visited on Sunday 8th July. It was a lovely sunny day, but as there isn't much outside seating, we sat inside, which was very comfortable considering the heat. We had afternoon tea, and for just £3 each more, had a glass of presecco too. The service was superb and the food fabulous. On a personal note only, I would have preferred a little more savoury food, but not complaining as the cakes served were delightful. We couldn't eat everything, but were given the left overs back in a cake box. for a cost of £10.95 per person, it has to be the best value for money afternoon tea in the area.

We had a wonderful baby shower here for my sister and my oh my what impeccable service ! The girls who helped (13th May) could not do enough to help us set up and fulfill all of our needs ! We had a wonderful time and want to thank you so much ! The afternoon tea was great !

Fix a apparently means coffee in one of the Scandinavian languages, prior to this it was Kitties.

Just had afternoon tea with a friend ,we sat outside in the sunshine ,really good quality food and a great selection of cakes ,we added a glass of prosecco (well why not).The staff were very friendly and could not do enough for us ,we even brought cakes home. We will definitely be visiting again

I tuck my mum and Dad for afternoon tea, for a treat, there love it, staff very friendly and explain the afternoon tea, and what there could when it arrived my dad thought it was for 4, then when the next one came, he was shocked. All the sandwiches was very good I had salmon and cheese, loads of salmon on, 4 slice of cake on each setting, chocolate, cookie dough, slated Carmel, beautiful. Well worth the money will be going again
