Kitchen Cafe in Brighton and Hove

Great home cooked food, I have been coming here since 1984 and have never had a bad meal. From a fry up to a roast dinner and dessert, everything is always top notch, the prices are very reasonable, the service is warm and inviting. Top marks to Neil the chef and his great staff.

Excellent choice of fried breakfasts, not too greasy, at affordable prices. Classic yellow Vitrolite wall panelling, a little gem. I shall be returning.

So after years of coming to Brighton at the weekends and not being able to come here, finally I am here during the week and have just been for a bit of breakfast, best scrambled egg on toast ever and the staff re friendly helpful and accommodating, will be going back tomorrow for more. This is a perfect traditional British cafe, where you can get an affordable full English in central Brighton. Quality ingredients and a great price! Staff are lovely and also a great spot for people watching haha.

Lovely place, friendly staff, very good quality food and ingredients. I had an excellent fry up and cup of tea for less than a tenner - unheard of in Brighton. Atmosphere is a proper cafe, not some trendy half a fake (popular in Brighton). Really good place, I was there 90 min, read paper, others were chatting. Only downside - it doesn’t open Sundays.

The breakfasts are good here but the right lunch is something else - the roast potatoes are the best I have ever had and I don't know how they are so good. I love the pies cottage (the best you will ever have), shepherds , sausage and onion, steak and kidney, bacon pudding (I had never had it before), all amazing. Price is great too

We stopped by the cafe looking for a good, proper English cafe breakfast somewhere up in the lanes for a decent price. This cafe was just that, proper home-cooked food and lovely, quick service for amazing value. Food was lovely and the menu had a brilliant variety of set breakfasts, options to have other cafe-style lunches and the option to substitute items out of set breakfast and choose your own. Would recommend to anyone looking for a good cafe breakfast in a heartbeat. Thank you to all at Kitchen Cafe, on behalf of myself and my friends.

The Kitchen Cafe is a favourite of mine. It's somewhere to go when you're looking for a really decent, home cooked type meal. Tasty, traditional English fare prepared with care. Home made Steak and Kidney Pie, Lamb Stew, Roasts etc. and of course a full range of cooked breakfasts. Very friendly, good value and a convenient location. I'm a regular, what more can I say ?

Small, cosy, retro feel decor. Ideal food portion sizes, great value for money. Very friendly staff. I'd recommend this place for a breakfast that's substantial without overdoing it, and that's not swimming in fat.

I came here last week for a breakfast with a friend. We had tea, fresh juice and a full english breakfast. It was amazing value, efficient service and a nice friendly atmosphere.

My husband and I enjoyed a perfect English breakfast here! He is from England but lives in the States, and was craving a full English breakfast. Everything was perfect for him (and I enjoyed mine, too), including the sausage and bacon. This was a perfect place! Please be aware they deal in cash only.

This did exactly what we wanted, a fry up. A number of different options, quality meat. A traditional style cafe no airs and graces at a decent price for the centre of Brighton.

I've been coming to the Kitchen Cafe for years. Eaten here with family,friends,solo etc. Good for fry ups,roast dinner,breakfasts. Full of locals and handily situated at the bottom end of Trafalgar St for North Laine/St Peter's church . Probably won't appeal to uber hipster neo urban vegan,this is a traditional cafe owned by the same family for years.Food freshly cooked to order

This is a great caff - old style. I suggest that you go with number 9. It would be perfect if the breakfast would include a hot drink.

The food was standard cafe food. Really good value and I did enjoy it. Would come here again as the staff were polite.

This is a lovely little cafe, well located in Brighton. There aren’t loads of seats but the atmosphere is nice. They are cash only so bear this in mind.

Nice retro cafe serving hot food. It’s an old fashioned cafe that serves the best of British home style cooking. The only downside is the limited opening hours. However do pay a visit - if you want a traditional dinner. I didn’t eat much for the rest of the day!

It was a great experience here with my friends, we was like at home , great food and great staff, i cannot recommend this place

I was in here three times last week when I was staying at My Brighton hotel. The first day I got the vegetarian breakfast. The veg sausage was lovely and a great sized breakfast. Sets you up for the day.Second day cheese omelette and chips. Third day I had one of the many combinations they offer on the full English breakfast.

Full English breakfast with proper (very tasty) bacon, sausage and eggs. Great way to start the day.

In the age of the endless coffee shop it’s often hard to find traditional breakfast places. The menu is extensive and you are guaranteed to eat well.

Coming here with friends on weekly basis, Kitchen Cafe never fails as a late breakfast-brunch spot. Get ready for occasional waiting for table as this place is usually packed for breakfast with locals in peak hours, nothing girls behind the counter can't handle, but patience is the key. Omelette size of a plate with plenty of chips on side and mug of a coffee sorts even the most resistant hangover. Nothing pretentious, you get what you pay for. Well done Kitchen Cafe

By far the BEST place in Brighton for a fabulous breakfast at any time and also a great selection of traditional British lunches from 11am till closing time. You can't beat the BEST OF BRITISH!!!

Usually (very) reasonably priced food means a compromise on quality - well not at The Kitchen Cafe!!! For over two decades I've lived in Brighton and as a lover of The Full English I've eaten in most places around the city, but until last week I'd failed to notice this lovely unassuming eatery. When it comes to unpretentious, value for money, and very tasty food, I have to say The Kitchen Cafe serves up some of the best there is. I'm definitely going back there to try the other English fayre on offer...I also have a soft spot for pies and I hear theirs are outstanding!

We have visited this Brighton institution many times.Now we are doing Atkins and asked for 2 fried eggs 2 bacons and mushrooms....it was so delicious ! We went back the next day......

A wonderful fry up the sausages were top quality and very tasty. So was the bacon. Quick polite service and very clean Highly recommended.

Traditional Cafe - but, unusually, using really good quality ingredients - and cooked excellently - I have eaten here frequently over the last 3 years and have thoroughly enjoyed every single meal - as have many friends I've recommended.

Having travelled high and low in search of a good breakfast, here it is! How many times have I encountered a badly cooked breakfast at extortionate prices in nouveau hipster joints? Many times I've been served rubbery poached eggs, or if they get the consistency right, its tastes far too much of vinegar. But the Kitchen Cafe in Brighton managed to cook two poached eggs perfectly, both tasty and well presented. Hats off to the Kitchen Cafe - next time a full English....

Really good breakfast with lovely sausages. Only a couple of small things, you get quality sausages and bacon but get cheap beans and cheap brown sauce! But I still go every week.

Our children now wake up each Saturday morning and ask if we can have breakfast at the kitchen cafe and who are we mere parents to argue. It's a welcomed great start to the weekend.

My second visit to Kitchen Cafe and I was not disappointed by the wonderful service by the charming lady Sheila who took our order. The cleanliness was outstanding with a contestant flow of people coming and going. There are very few traditional cafes left in Brighton but this is the only one to experience outstanding food, a warm welcome and value that will be hard to beat.

Kitchen Cafe is a really nice place yo have a traditional English breakfast. It is cheap and at the same time is tasty. One of the best in Brighton.

It's difficult to find a place in the North Laine that does a decent value full English breakfast, what with the barista coffee/pastry revolution in full swing, but this place is it! I had a hankering for something a bit more filling and their cooked breakfast was magnificent - well cooked, decent portion and quality produce. It's a bit of a throwback to the old style English cafe (think Eastenders) which is great, it's certainly not Hipster. The staff were really friendly and service was super quick. I sat outside in the sunshine and watched the world go by. All in all its hard to fault this place.

A beautifully cooked breakfast for our extended family....and such a great price too compared to where we usually go! We'll certainly be back again soon....staff are just wonderful too. What a gem of a cafe!

Due to cafes near the station being over priced we came across this little place a 5 minute walk down the road. We were not disappointed one bit. Small place feels very retro, very clean, nice selection of breakfasts and omelettes with daily home made specials on a board. i had a breakfast but will be going back for an omelette as another table had them and they were massive. Lovely staff and top breakfast with real sausages. one of my new favorite breakfast places.

This is an amazing place for food. The choice is brilliant, the staff know the regular customers by name and they are always smiling. The food is all home cooked and piping hot. It is a small cafe, but in this case small is beautiful.

Found this little place after much walking through the Lanes looking for a place for a nice big fry up. Everywhere has 'Veggie' this or 'Vegan' that, so stumbling across the Kitchen Cafe which caters for all was just the perfect hangover cure!

Wow. What a place. Came here as a suggestion from a friend and so glad I did. Amazing little place with a very "homey" feel to it. Kind of has a 70's look to it which I think makes the decor really good and comfortable. The brekkie was outstanding. Everything made fresh and really affordable. The sausages in my opinion were real "butcher's sausages" and not some mass produced rubbish that you get in local supermarkets. They even have bubble and squeak which I didn't unfortunately try, but got a serious thumbs up from my mate. The place is small but that kinda adds to the atmosphere. Would definitely recommend and definitely return.

While staying at Jury's Inn, we skipped the £10 breakfast and headed for the Kitchen Cafe, just a few minutes walk away. What a good decision that was! Brilliant choice of set menu breakfasts, great quality ingredients and very reasonably priced. The staff are very friendly and welcoming to this unpretentious oasis among the trendy coffee shops around the area.

Fantastic value, top quality food, and very friendly welcome by the young lady upon arrival. All the family left very happy and ready to enjoy the day after a perfect breakfast.

Close to the Falafel cafes and hipster bars of the North Laines is this unreconstructed "Workmans caff" offering numerous variations on the Full English Breakfast plus home-made pies, hotpots ,etc. A truly retro eating experience at yesterdays prices. Friendly service and no waiting around yet the food was all home-made and freshly cooked. There was a time when every town would have had a cafe like this but they were squeezed out by fast food outlets and Costa type coffee shops. You need to be a manual worker to do justice to the portions. Good to know that such places still exist.

A cafe that does what it says in the title. I've eaten breakfast a few times here over the years and it's consistently excellent both in terms of quality and value for money.

This was a cafe we picked on arriving in Brighton as it was both close to the station and close to the Noth Laine. Breakfast was excellent value. Food was great and staff very friendly

The pies are home made but I would never go back because I got an upset tummy after eating a steak and kidney pie. Best to stick to a typical British fry up. I went for lunch but would suggest a full breakfast. Opens early and closes early about 15.00.

When I went to the kitchen cafe, I admit there wasn't much expectation but I was in for a rude awakening. The food is top notch and the price is unbeatable for the surrounding area in the heart of the north laines. On top of all that, the front of House was so bubbly and polite, I just had to give her a tip.

This is a small, lovely, unpretentious cafe that serves good quality English breakfasts. A breath of fresh air in an area overloaded with expensive cafes that are usually style over substance. Love seeing some of Brighton's older folk in there getting their roast dinners and having a good natter with eachother over a cuppa. Quickly becoming one of my favourite places to eat.

Visiting Brighton for the weekend and Popped in after seeing bubble and squeak as a breakfast special in the window, not normally the sort of cafe I would go to but haven't had bubble and squeak probably since I was a kid so it sold me! Lovely little clean traditional cafe , good quick service. And the dish did not disappoint 2 perfect poached eggs and "good" crispy bacon with the bubble for under a fiver bargain. Will return thanks guys.

Have sampled many breakfast within Brighton but this has to be the best! Great quality food and served with a smile. I will be back!

Revisited this charming, little gem, in the heart of the North Laine, with my 70 year old father visiting from up north. this cafe is exactly what a cafe should be, great home made food, so very reasonable and great friendly atmosphere. In a sea of trendy cafe's this is a breathe of fresh air.

No frills no fuss but excellent food six days a week... Wholesome fare, roasts, pies all served with roads potatoes, choice of two vegtables and lashings of piping hot gravy...yummy!!

We do enjoy coming here as we only live round the corner but we do try other similar establishments for a change an none so fa have matched up interns of friendly service value of money an simply GREAT taste.

You could walk past here and completely miss it. I drop in once a week. Really reliable traditional breakfast cooked and served by very friendly mum-son owners. They also do lovely homemade lunches, with pies a speciality. It's also used by builders in the locality for takeaway teas and coffees. Definitely a basic caff - easy to miss among the more trendy looking rivals in the North Laines

I was thrilled to see a vegetarian breakfast option on the menu here. I don't care for eggs, so they gladly substituted with extra mushrooms. My plate was filled with grilled tomato, avocado slices, toast, delicious baked beans, perfectly cooked little mushrooms, and hash browns. With tea and some juice, the bill was still well under £10 and everything was delicious. Service was good as well; the cafe is small but was pretty busy and the waitress was juggling all tables by herself but was still polite and friendly. Highly recommend this little cafe!

This is a superb place if you want a great value breakfast with no fuss, just good food. Staff are very friendly and made us feel very welcome.

I visited this cafe on Saturday morning with my very fussy wife and children and couldn't have had a better experience. The coffee was good and food was freshly prepared with very high quality ingredients and the sausage and black pudding was superb. I've promised my 9 year old that it'll be a regular Saturday morning treat so see you again very soon....

Lovely little cafe with beautiful, welcoming front of house. Have visited a couple of times and every time has been lovely. Excellent proper full English fry-ups at more than reasonable prices. Took my parents here recently after a heavy night out the night before, both are farmers who are known to be particular about their breakfasts and they both thoroughly enjoyed their breakfasts, good quality grub, we all left feeling very satisfied!

I had breakfast at Kitchen Cafe. It was great. The food was freshly cooked and delicious. Reasonable prices. Friendly relaxed atmosphere. The service was fantastic. The lady who served me called Sheila was just lovely. I am definitely going back soon.

We went here yesterday after reading reviews and we really enjoyed it. My husband had a lovely road dinner and I had a breakfast. The whole thing was a great experience and the friendliness was smashing. We will be back the next time we are in Brighton. Oh my husband also had apple crumble with lashing of custard he loved it.
