FRANKIES FRIED CHICK/ADAM THE CHEF Oh boyyy he’s done it again! I discovered Frankie’s/Adam on Instagram a while back and as someone who is gluten intolerant it was something I had to try, gosh dang it’s insane! Personally I love the maple syrup and waffle option, but I have sampled everything else on the menu (pickles as a side is a must) over the two times I’ve had their food and it is wonderful. A taste that stays and sits perfectly with a gluten free beer that KASK also offer. Seeing the chef pop out and say hello to patrons isn’t something that’s seen as much anymore but that with the vibe and other staff of KASK is great. Good value for money and always good to support local 👌🏼

Frankie’s is the restaurant coeliacs have been waiting for - absolutely everything on the food menu is gluten free (and coeliac safe) so you can just go to town. I’ve eaten at Adam’s pop ups many times over the last couple of years and it’s great he’s found a long term home as his food is fantastic and everyone should be able to try jt!! This time I had the buffalo and blue cheese chicken and waffle, OG cheese million layer potato, frickles (with a side of ranch sauce) and some slaw. All of it was divine! Somehow still had room for the zeppole (kind of like a doughnut but super light and fluffy), which has become one of Adam’s signature dishes. Mine came with coffee and caramel sauces and a nice blob of whipped cream. It wasn’t sickly sweet and finished the meal off nicely. This was all washed down with Fortitude, a gluten free amber ale from Bristol Beer Factory just up the road. Maddie was our main server and she was super attentive and really friendly. All in all the whole experience is one I’ll be repeating regularly! One thing I’ll just add - a couple of reviews have said this is expensive for what you get. It’s true that it’s not cheap but this is a really small business just starting out and doesn’t have the economies of scale of a bigger business. The venue seats maybe 20 people and it’s usually fully booked but as with any hospitality venue they deal with a lot of no-shows. When people just don’t turn up for their booking that means nobody else can have the table unless there’s a walk-in. But staff and bills still have to be paid. Personally I don’t find the food overpriced but as a coeliac I’m used to paying more for nice gluten free food - and I don’t know of anywhere else doing this type of food gluten free. The food is excellent, as is the service and you get what you pay for.

The food, while nicely presented, is very poor value for money. £12.50 is an extortionate amount of money to pay for 2 chicken tenders that tasted like they were done in the air fryer, with a small dollop of sauce. The sides are over priced again, amounting to nothing more than a few slices of potato for £6.50 and the waffle was tiny. Again, everything was nicely presented but this isn't fried chicken and waffles as you might know it from American cuisine, you can do much better elsewhere in the city. The music was too loud. Twice a customer turned it down at the speaker only to have the front of house tut and turn it back up. I couldn't hear a word my partner was saying and, when I mentioned it to our waitress, she just shrugged and walked off. Overall, very overrated and disappointing.

Love love love Kitchen by Kask. Have now been a few times to eat Frankies and it was so good. From the food and drinks, to the environment and music, it was all fab! Growing up in Texas this took me back to my childhood with the chicken and waffles. Yum! Also it’s all gluten free which means you can order literally anything on the menu even if you can’t eat gluten! The drinks as expected are always spot on, both cocktails and wine. Kask always finds the perfect wine to go with the food! Highly recommended and will definitely be back.

We recently visited Frankie’s at Kitchen by Kask and couldn’t recommend it more. As an American living in Bristol, the vibe felt like a real taste of home—classic Americana done right. The drinks menu is great, with plenty of bubbles and whiskey-based cocktails. My 3-year-old was especially thrilled with the house-made chocolate milk! The food is excellent—you’d never guess it’s entirely gluten-free. I also really appreciated the openness to feedback, like adding ranch to the frickles and swapping in dill pickles when possible. The small but well-curated menu makes ordering easy, and the kids’ portion option is a thoughtful touch. Definitely worth a visit for brunch or dinner, whether you eat gluten-free or not!

This review is for Frankie's Since these are pop up kitchens the reviews can get out of date. The food itself is nice enough, no complaints there. Fried nicely. Plated nicely etc however very expensive for what you get. I feel I basically got swindled into paying £13 for 3 chicken tenders that were nothing super special and some buffalo sauce anyway. Same for my partner who had it with maple syrup. Chicken is no better than other chicken. The breading is nice however. The waffle itself was quite nice, and the slaw side was excellent. Million layer potatoes should've veen left longer as they split. Service very nice. It would be better with more variety or even just volume of food, otherwise you can probably make it at home.

I have coeliac disease and was delighted to try Frankies at Kitchen by Kask. Frankies is at kitchen for 2 weeks then off for 2 weeks and only open from Thursday to Sunday (shame!) Well the food was delicious, the frickles were lovely, waffles and fried chicken were great. What also made it a great experience was our server, sorry I didn't get her name (brown hair), she was funny and warm and it felt like she really wanted you to have a nice time, I find this a very rare occurrence when eating out. We will definitely be back!

Nice place, Frankies chicken and waffles were delicious but disappointed by the service. Finished our mains ready to order 2 desserts and another drink, but after waiting 15+ minutes for our plates to be cleared (after waving) we decided to just get the bill and go.

We used Kitchen by KASK for a private hire work-party. Charlie was SO lovely and accomodating, even had made personalised menus for our guests. He was so happy to talk us through the wine selections and give us all the insights and advice. The space was perfect for our group, with great lighting and music! Highly recommend for a private hire. Need to go back and experience it as the Kitchen itself! Thank you KASK team :)

Just ate at BAYT at Kitchen by Kask having met Melissa the chef who said she could cope with my Paleo-Keto diet. She wasn’t wrong! I ate beautiful scallops, skate wing and hispi cabbage, all cooked in duck fat and lashed in spiced vegan butter. Such a treat to eat out nicely on a ketogenic diet. Thank you Melissa and team!

The kitchen was happy to accommodate the dietary requirements of the group and everyone was raving about the food all weekend. This is a real local gem run by people who care about food, hospitality and wine!

Absolutely delicious food, great atmosphere and lovely team working behind the bar and in the kitchen. Our experience was made even more special by having chef Melissa come out and tell us about the food. My mum and I shared all the vegan options and loved every bite - exactly what we love to eat. Crunchy cabbage and carrots cooked to perfection. The katsu sauce on the cauliflower was divine! 10/10 recommend

The wine and cheese bar (Kask) is a firm favourite of ours and we were excited to try the Sunday roast. We were disappointed to find no vegetarian option on the rotating menu. A starter was given at a discounted rate as an alternate. The plates were on our table on arrival and really need to be swapped for a warm plate as the roast is served on a platter and cooled ever so quickly. It was disappointing for the price point. I think the selection of wines are brilliant and the service was good however there are far better Sunday Lunch options in the city to choose from.

Ok so I’m a local and really disappointed to leave a mediocre review. We went to the Ollie ravioli. The pasta was cold and the sauce/bisque was runny and bland. The staff were friendly and nice and I didn’t feel like I could complain at the time. Hopefully next time it will be better!

We are Kask regulars and we were lucky enough to be squeezed in because of a no show so thank you to the staff!! Kitchen by Kask has the same high quality and service as Kask. We went at a time when Basement 17 were in residence and I will be honest and say as a vegetarian I wasn't expecting much. However, the food was amazing, very well priced and the staff were so kind and helpful as always.

Great place, highly recommend! I have attended Kitchen by Kask 3 times since opening and have not been disappointed once!! Firstly I came for Kuku, delicious Persian food, which we had with the beer pairing, each beer explained to us and why they chose it to be paired with the food by their lovely staff. Then I visited twice for Basement 17 Tacos, I already knew the food would be amazing as I’ve had their food before, and it still managed to be 10x better than I remember! Had a very yummy espresso martini when I came for lunch then me and my partner shared a beer flight and a wine flight, both were very nice and really good prices! All the staff here are so friendly and make you feel very welcome, it’s a great small, community restaurant and I will definitely be coming at least once a month to try the ever changing cuisines. A great concept, executed perfectly ❤️

Love love love this place. A massively brilliant addition to the neighbourhood. Kask (the wine bar) has been a game changer for this underrated part of Bristol but Kitchen by Kask takes things to the next level. Give these guys the keys to the city!!! Love Kask, was unfortunately disappointed by the Kitchen. We were put on the bar, which I think should definitely be an option (nothing was mentioned on the booking) The whole experience was a little awkward and we didn't receive the extra which we asked for when ordering. Drinks were the best part - think I'll just be going to Kask in the near future.

We were really excited about the new Kask start up, the original Kask is so great. This Kitchen by Kask however, was really disappointing. The food was mediocre, you couldn’t talk due to the music being way too loud (it was closer to being in a bar after 10pm than some place to eat) and although the wine was good - you had no idea what you were drinking! The wine Kask select is great no doubt - but the options were just a stab in the dark ‘a flight of wine’ one white, orange and red. When the wine was explained all we could hear was ‘it’s from Turkey’ we got nothing else and really liked two of the wines, enough to buy it… If only we were told what it was!? We were sat in the middle and it certainly felt like we were forgotten, our order taken about 20 mins after we arrived with others arriving after us being served drinks almost immediately. The food we selected was ok, nothing to write home about and certainly there are better offerings on North Street at a similar price point (Yafo, Souk etc) - given the variety of small plates it would seem that the paring of the wine didn’t actually really fit when you are given a flight and little (or perhaps we couldn’t hear) explanation of what would go well with what. The concept is great one, pair Kask’s brilliant wine with local and more substantial food than the original wine bar - it could be so so good but it seems confused. Is it a place for good food and wine!? or a loud pre night out bar that sells good wine and some food to get you through the evening!? We so want it to be good and this is the reason for the review - honest albeit critical feedback. We will try it again once it’s more established however, we will stick with Kask wine bar for the foreseeable and hope that this new linked enterprise doesn’t ruin its great reputation.

I really wanted to like this popup restaurant. But unfortunately the food was very plain, service was slow and inaccurate (our drinks did not arrive) and unforgivably the chicken was undercooked and still pink. I will update this review if we get sick in the next few days. Although the clientele were interesting and cool and the location was good, I cannot recommend this iteration of the popup

It has been a much appreciated and loved stable establishment at St Michael's Hill. Can I please request that you start accepting card payments, without asking for an extra charge (£1) in line with most businesses circa 2025.
