Kirktown Garden Centre Restaurant in Aberdeenshire

Lovely welcome as soon as I walked through the door and shown to the table. Ordered the small breakfast and there wasn’t an element on it that wasn’t cooked spot on.

The same as every other garden centre I have visited in other parts of the country. Sidelines of overpriced gifts and biscuits etc. Bars of soap 7 pounds. I can get the exact same ones in TK Maxx for 2.99. Metal ladybirds and bees for the garden 8 pounds. I have these in my garden from B and M bargains for 1.99 each. Cost of the plants were about 9.99 upwards. All in all very expensive.

Mince, Tatties and Skirlie had absolutely NO flavour. Bland to say the least and diced vegetables mixed through rather than on the side. Skirlie had no onions or fat in it just dry oatmeal !! Served in a pasta dish don't know the reason for that but very odd. We were asked when paying if everything was OK and I said we were disappointed and the reply was "we are normally complimented about our mince and tatties' and that was it !! Probably still okay for snacks but we won't be back for lunch.

I have eaten here a few times and the staff are extremely friendly and excellent at accommodating my nightshade intolerance. The chief even came out to ask me if I like anything so he can add it to the next menu. I always have a really positive experience here and the food is delicious. I highly recommend!

Lovely breakfast served by courteous staff , friendly staff in a pleasant location/atmosphere. Will definitely be back.

Great place to visit, not as a big as some garden centres but seems to have everything in it. The clothing area is good with a nice choice of everything. Cafe is nice too with a good varied menu. Its a shame bus services dont run near it but a taxi was only £5 from railway station. I hope to visit again soon.

Had a great time out for lunch at Kirktown, was welcomed in with a smile and had outstanding service the whole time. Food was delicious and served quick. Coffees and meals served super hot and enjoyed by everyone. Would highly recommend!

We enjoyed another lovely, tasty breakfast this morning at Kirkton. We go there regularly and it is always a joy to be served by Carol Ann. Her friendly, smiling nature always adds to an enjoyable experience..

Popped past here one morning for breakfast. The restaurant was relatively quiet, so there were plenty of tables to choose from. I was met by a very pleasant lady called Carol, who took me to a suitable table and gave me a menu. Plenty of breakfast options on the menu, and I went for a full cooked breakfast. Carol came back shortly and took my order. There was a short wait whilst the breakfast was cooked. The breakfast itself was very nice, cooked by Monika, one of the two chefs on that day. All in a lovely breakfast in a nice relaxed setting.

Lovely fresh food and served with a smile. A visit to the garden centre followed by lunch on a lovely sunny day. Good menu to choose from and something to please everyone!

Had mince and tatties for lunch. Served in a sort of flat soup bowl. Expected beefy mince and vegetables separate. Got bland mince with carrots and peas in mix to bulk out. Visiting on holiday and experienced a lot of eating out in 8 weeks. This was bland and incredibly small for about 10.75 which is disappointing. General shopping area of ornaments and things did not set the heather on fire. Nothing will take me back here again. Describe as 2 star. So many places far far better were you don’t leave hungry.

Lovely spot for a coffee and scone. Lots of people were having a full meal so we will definitely come back as this was our first trip! Great food market and gift shop too! Very good range of plants, trees and gardening equipment

We’d been before for a fly cup which was pleasant and decided on an impromptu lunch stop. There were queues to be seated, although plenty empty tables and staff. Not sure why. On a positive note the staff were pleasant and the food was nicely presented. Can’t help feeling a bit disappointed with the quality of taste. My steak burger tasted like a ‘freezer burger’ and the coleslaw out a big catering tub. It’s maybe unfair of me to expect a ‘local produce’ taste. We’ve been to Threaplands Garden Centre and Castletons and the quality is much superior. There it tastes like local homemade produce. So maybe unfair to call it mediocre, comparing it to ‘market leaders’. The positives were the staff were pleasant and the plate presentations around the dining hall looked good. Maybe burgers were an unlucky choice. In future we’ll stick to fly cups here and give lunch a miss.

Hadn’t been for something to eat at the garden centre since pre Covid. Was the nicest bacon roll I’ve had. Food selection is brilliant, coffee was great, staff friendly and service is quick. Really must go more often and will certainly be back.

We had an amazing lunch here today! The Sunday roast option - chicken with roast potatoes, three veg and a yorkshire pudding - was so well cooked and delicious. I’m sure I read on the blackboard it should have had skirlie too but there was no sign of it on our plates. Our food came promptly. We weren’t asked if everything was okay until after I paid the bill at the till. One waitress was very pleasant and friendly but the others less so. I’m always inclined to think the staff here require more customer service training but today’s chef is certainly fantastic!

We stopped off here on our way to a funeral hoping for a quick refreshment , however the restaurant staff were very unwelcoming and despite there being many empty tables and no customers waiting we were rushed out before we even finished our food. We asked if they had take away cutlery and were just told ‘no’. Do not recommend

Cup of tea £2.50 very expensive. OK if for 1 person but 4 people far too pricy. Will stick to tap water. ‽???????????????????????????

The staff at the garden centre could not do enough for me and my family. They went out of their way to find items for us. Our 2 dogs were also welcome which is a bonus. The staff were all friendly and very helpful.

We stopped by for lunch and we’re pleasantly surprised with the delicious lunch. I had a steak burger and my partner had children lettuce and tomato ciabatta, both were fresh, tasty and well cooked. The service was good and surroundings nice. Drinks are a bit overpriced.

VERY disappointed in our visit to our local garden centre. It is very difficult to “support local” when your local garden centre is dirty, the service is slow, the menu is limited and actually falling apart! The salad I received on the side of my soup and panini didn’t look fresh at all. The only positive to this visit was the excellent Christmas display when you first come in. Kirkton sort yourself out it’s an embarrassment

Went in last week for afternoon coffee, one black and the other white, both cups were only 3/4 full and look worm, how difficult is it to get the basics right.

Popped in to view garden furniture and ended up staying for lunch. Covid protocols are rigorously enforced .Our initial experience was rather poor as we waited a fair while to be attended to. However ,once we were assigned a table our order was taken reasonably quickly. We both really enjoyed our steak burger meals which included relish ,coleslaw ,salad and chips. Excellent value for money!!We very much look forward to returning in the near future.

We were at this restaurant for lunch.We were seated at a table in the conservatory beside an open door where there was a wind blowing in.We asked to change tables this was fine.Five minutes later we were asked if we would move tables back to the original one as they were needing to rearrange tables to seat 6 people.We refused.After a wait our order was taken and even after a longer wait our food arrived.I had the lunchtime filler which is a bacon and cheese topped scone.The bacon was more white fat than bacon.The scone didn't taste fresh.My husband had what was meant to be potato and leek soup.It was a khaki coloured puree with no flavour or taste.When we went to pay the assistant wasn't very friendly and didn't ask if everything was ok.We won't be going back

We called in here to look at the plants on way to Dundee and then went in to the restaurant. Good tea and soft drinks and limited cake selection. Good seating but the restaurant is not inspiring overall.

Popped in for a quick lunch the specials board so far away couldn’t read it. Settled for a panini which was average husband had soup which he said was good. Service was ok and received the food shortly after ordering.

Usually when you pop into a garden centre for lunch you can be assured of something fresh and appealing to eat. This is the exception.

Visited Kirktown Garden Centre twice over the last few days. Both times food was excellent and, although busy, you couldn't complain about the service or time taken for the food to be served. Surprised at recent poor reviews as this certainly wasn't our experience there.

Fantastic service from the staff especially our waitress (don't know her name but was wearing glasses). Ordered a cappuccino and a tray bake and my wife ordered an Earl Grey tea with a Gluten free tiffin. We then went for a walk round the lovely garden centre.

Was in today found it shocking service. We were shown to our table and given the menus and told about the specials gave our drinks order and after about ten minutes a waitress comes and tells us that 2 prawn specials were no longer available so we chose 2 fish cakes only to be told they were not available either so settled for baked potato which she then came back to tell us they were also not available and this was just after one o clock so we didn't really fancy going through all that again so drank what was left off our drinks and went to pay only to be met with scowls and rudeness we were not even offered a small discount on the drinks. That's the second time we have been there and won't be back. Recommendations is stay clear

Stopped off with friends for coffee & cake. It was 3-20 but choice was very limited.1 pancake was in the enclosed counter with 4 tray bake choices. I asked the waitress if scones were finished, no she said we have plain, fruit, cheese or pecan. The scones were always on display. Scone size is greatly reduced. Coffee was nice, I did return mine requesting they to fill it to the top. Disappointing visit.

Used to come here frequently and it was great. Not been for about a year, this visit and my last visit i felt the place smelt very greasy. This visit, i put the same coat on that evening to go out and i could smell greasy. There appears to be an issue with the kitchen extraction.

5 adults arrived for lunch only hard wooden seats available do not care much for. Ordered 2 x vegtable broth was all barley thick and tastless also brockly and stilton soup cold and tastless. Fruit scones and tea next. scones small and tastless. All and all glorified cafe. Only thing they got correct was how they can charge high price. Will not be returning.

Love this restaurant. It’s a lovely place to meet up with friends and is child friendly. Extensive menu. Food is delicious & good value for money. Staff are very friendly. Would highly recommend.

Been several times a while back for lunch and raved about the food, mince and tatties, stewed liver and sausage, fish and chips etc. Good portions good quality food.

This is a busy cafeteria which has table service which is good it serves a mixture of food from light bites to mains and also cakes. The service is good and also the food

We visited for a late lunch and after menu review saw the daily special was beef olives with oatmeal stuffing vegetables and potatoes. I’m not a great gravy fan but I’m glad I made an exception full of flavour 2 large beef olives and ample veg with a crisp not over cooked. Superb meal for £3 more than a sandwich.

I phoned in an order for lunch to collect, requesting firstly a baked potato with prawns, seemingly they don't do prawns any more, website has not been updated to reflect this, certainly helps if customers know what they can order. Decided on a panini, which comes with salad and coleslaw, order was collect, and brought back to office, well turned out my panini was in fact a luke warm toastie with no coleslaw. Phoned the restaurant to be told that they were told it was a toastie that was ordered, I corrected that piece of information, was offered to get a panini but would take about another 10 minutes, no use when you only have half an hour for lunch and most of it had been used up, felt the apology was not sincere, and very dismissive

Really disappointed with a visit today to what has become a favourite eating out venue for us.

The restaurant is always good value for money and the service is always excellent. Today we visited for morning coffee and we had really first class malteser cake, cherry scone and a bakewell.

Always a good choice of cakes and scones . Must try Afternoon Tea sometime ....it looks delicious .... Often busy , could do with more staff at weekend , but usually worth the wait .

Visited here with family. The restaurant was very busy and we had to wait a while for our order to be taken and our coffee and cakes to arrive.

We visited this tea room while visiting the garden centre and were very impressed with the fare, although found the prices just a tad steep. That said the garden centre was extremely well stocked with lovely stuff and we purchased quite a few gifts during our visit. It is obviously a very popular attraction as it was extremely busy throughout our visit.

I heard nice things about this cafe and attempted to go a few months ago, sadly the place was heaving and couldn't accommodate us. I managed another visit last week strangely enough the cafe was all but empty. My wife and I were presented with an average plate of food. Neither my wife or I cleared our plates, not because of the quantity, I was surprised how little we got for the price we paid. It was more of a quality issue.

A very nice place to come and have a lovely breakfast or lunch every think is fresh and the staff are very friendly as well as the the lassie you meet when you come in to the garden center all ways speaks to as you enter be fore you go in the cafe fresh cakes to have with your tea or coffee . you can take away aswell lots flowers for sale as well very reasonable

Visited Stonehaven Garden Centre this afternoon with my ninety year old, disabled mother and my cousin for afternoon tea. We have been loyal customers since the cafe opened, but the staff show us no recognition or acknowledgement. Today, we reached an all time low. Two thirds of the restaurant was sectioned off and we were all crushed in the central area with very noisy children and accompanying raucous mums. Our request to sit in a quieter area was refused. We ordered our refreshments and then more customers arrived. They were told to sit where they liked, including the cordoned off areas. We felt we were an inconvenience to the staff and what should have been a treat turned into a test of our patience.

The coffee is weak, tasteless and cold. The scone was hard, dry and crumbly with burnt raisins Awful experience

We went for a quick light lunch and were not disappointed, the staff were very helpful and pleasant. We had a nice bacon and brie panini with lovely fresh salad, nice surroundings very clean, there is plenty to look at on the way in.

We eat here at least twice a month mainly go for breakfast but have also had lunch, the food is always good, staff are very friendly. Would recommend the Kirkton

We ate at Kirktown after visiting Dunnottar. They had authentic Scottish lunch options and a great atmosphere and friendly staff. They also have a great store attached.

Came here for lunch. Good selection of food and decent quality. I had the burger which was very tasty but the rhubarb crumble could have done with a crispier top and be a little warmer.

I’m sorry to say several of my friends and I feel Kirktown Garden Centre Restaurant is very sadly going downhill.

We popped in for a late lunch and checked on trip advisor and noted that they were open til 4.30pm but no food was available even although it was only 3.20pm.

We took our two grandchildren to the garden centre for lunch. The menu looked great and the children enjoyed their meal.

Good wholesome food always on the menu. Always very busy at mealtimes and staff can get a bit harassed at times, but worth the visit.

Went in past for breakfast last week, very poor service again, tables waiting to be cleared, we waited over 5 minutes for the menu to arrive, then another 10 for our order to be taken ad it was not busy, manager seems to be chatting to pals all the time, we watched a couple walk out as they were seated for over 10 min without being served..

This is a very nice place to visit for gifts and garden.Visited for lunch sat down given menus prices aren't expensive they have a specials board never had a savoury cheese scone but was delicious and filling with bacon melted cheese and tomato the staff are courteous and helpful would definitely recommend.

Spoiled by the choice of cakes available. Service was little slow because of the lunch time crowd. Great place to watch the trains go past. Great for the.kids.

Very disappointed with our Empire Biscuits today me and my daughter had them they were the worst I have ever tasted and my daughter wasn't going to eat it , she said it was disgusting. The scones apparently were very good and Tea was Hot....

This is a popular and busy restaurant but the food is good enough to be able to put up with the crowd. Nice home bakes and the main meals we saw going out looked good. Be prepared for a wait if you arrive at lunchtime.

Great friendly atmosphere, ample seating with views to garden centre, Choice of soups, and specials, and always cooked fresh ! We visited for coffee and cake recently. Service was friendly. Having been here on a number of previous occasions it was surprising that the coffee was a little below par this time but the cakes are always tasty and varied.
