Can’t recommend this place enough! Amazing l. welcoming staff who were very eager to make sure our time here was the best it could be. Food was fantastic, portion sizes are very filling so worth every Penny and very tasty. Offered us a wide selection of drinks and had colouring in things for the children. Only a short walk away from lots of tourist attractions in the town which makes it ideal. Will definitely be back regularly.

Came with family for lunch it was dirty the food was very bland with little taste, was over charged for the meals we got, not a place I would recommend or return to.

Had a great night last night in this newly reopened South Shields favourite. Served by friendly staff, dj was fab and the place was bouncing. I understand it has recently been taken over by new owners and this showed in the party vibe of the bar! Plenty of offers on the bar, we had plenty of baby guinesses at 3 for £5. Would definitely recommend a visit to Kirkpatricks. We will be back next weekend!!

Looks like a really great pub from the outside. Nice decor on the inside. Great range of lagers but only John smiths on draft. No real ales, no ipa no pale ales. What a let down.

My wife and I visited this pub recently on a trip to South Shields. It was our first time in this pub. Although it could do with a bit of refurbishment it is spacious. Food was cooked to order and was plentiful and tasty. It is situated in a pedestrianised area not far from the market place. Meals are reasonably priced. Staff are friendly and helpful. Please note that the toilets are upstairs. We would visit again.

Visited 3 times First time ( in the day) Had a drink and food, the staff are friendly, the food was good, But tables where dirty.. Second time Went to eat They stop serving food at 18.30 !!! Third time Just popped in for a dink... Again the tables where covered in dirty glasses and plates The floor was covered in food But the staff where to busy chatting and playing on their phones .. It's a shame because the building is fabulous and could be a really good place to visit...

We had a few drinks here when my husband took part in the GNR. The building inside is lovely and very spacious. Plenty deating outside and lots of staff were on hand to deal with how busy it was that day.

We went in for a drink and decided that we would like to eat here for our Christmas meal, we were shown the menu and decided to opt for the Silver Menu, we were met by Andy, where we asked if certain items could be subsituted due to my dierty requirements, and he said yeah no prob, however I would like to point out our other menue which will save you money, so we opted for that one, we cannot praise Andy enough for all that he did to make sure we got a great deal,

It could be amazing but it's not. It's old and dirty but the beers good the food is cheap and the staff are canny. So value for money it's very good.

I have used this pub for drinking but never a meal. popped in with the 2 kids for a quick lunch, was very surprised by the menu and the selection to choose from and great value offers too. 3 drinks and 3 meals which were decent standard less than 20 quid. well worth a visist if your hungry during shopping etc

My friends and I visited thursday while having a girls day out in Shields. They have quite an extensive menu and the prices are great. I had gammon egg and chips with a drink for £4.99, my friends had a large mixed grill with an alcoholic drink for £8.99 and my other friend had a curry with a pint, We all enjoyed our meals and the meal deals are excellent value when a drink is included. Service was pleasant and quick and the bar had plenty of space so could accomodate a lot of people. There were signs up advertising daily deals and I would say this place is definitely worth a visit while in south shields for decent food at a great price

I came here not knowing the area and within minutes the staff had told me the best places to visit, metro times, the best eateries and so much more. I cannot find a fault with this place at all. The food is great tasting and competitively priced. This has been my go to place for a while now as the atmosphere, drink selection and wide ranging members of the public who drink there are all top notch.

Had a pub meal recently. Yes it's not pristine but it's definitely good value for money. The staff were friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the food and drink.

Its looking like a old and tatty pub now, sticky floors, staff not very welcoming, disapointing wont be going back!

During the day this pub seems popular for meals and drinks but on our visit as friends it was nighttime and we were stopping off for one drink. The venue seems to need a revamp or updating, its as if time has stood still for many years since my last visit. There were no drink deals on the cocktails so a gin was over £5 which seems that places are cashing in on the amazing popularity of gin at present. There was little atmosphere to the pub so we didn’t stop long.

Came in with my family and as you can see from the picture the mixed grill was overcooked and dry hence the title. Also had to ask for steak knives when they should come with the meal. Took ages for food to be served and was not worth the money will never be back again.

I came here with my partner and 3 year old daughter for some lunch. The 2 girls who were on were really helpful and gave us a friendly welcome. My partner and I had the pie and a pint for £4.99 deal, I highly recommend the beef and double gloucester pie it was delicious! And great value for money with the drink included. My daughter had a kids chicken goujons and her dessert was included in the price, can't complain with that for £2.49! One of the barmaids even brought her some crayons and a colouring sheet to keep her busy while waiting for our food. We'll definitely be returning, well worth a visit!

I ordered fish and chips and the fish was grey in colour with slimy batter on the chips were chip ends and hard I couldn't believe it when I was charged 99p for 1 slice of bread when the young girl came across with the tea pot she tipped it onto the table causing it to spill all over the table and just walked away leaving me to wipe it up all I can say IS TRY SOMEWHERE ELSE

From outside this pub is stunning. Its an older building that has become a pub, thats where the beauty ends. Inside it is filthy, the fabric on the seats were so filthy i didnt want to sit down. We didnt eat here just had one drink and left due to being so disgusted with how dirty it was. Such a waste of a beautiful building. This feels like a bit of a theme in this area, lovely buildings or great views and location but badly cared for. Such a shame.

Went for a few drinks before out hotel check in at 4. Lovely atmosphere, friendly staff, very reasonable prices. Checked the menu for possible food ideas and even planned for going for breakfast on Sunday morning. Went and checked in and got back here for 630 to be told they stopped serving food and they don't open until 12 on a Sunday. Both plans out if the window. There must have been a change of staff too as everyone was miserable, aggressive and completely blanked us twice at the bar when serving everyone else around us who had got to the bar 5 mins after us. Definitely missing a trick not opening on a morning for breakfast - Morrison's cafe next door was heaving!

I went to this pub yesterday to meet with some friends. I ordered the Brunch Burger and one of my friends ordered the Sausage and Mash with Beans instead of the advertised peas. Our order did take quite sometime to come to us despite it being quite quiet and my friend's order came with peas instead of the requested beans. Today I am suffering from Diarrhea showing that either the meat didn't have it's grease properly drained off or the hygiene standards in the kitchen are poor.

The food was excellent,and very cheap, friendly staff,excellent variety of local ales as well as the usual alcoholic ,and soft drinks.Well worth a visit.

Overall good food however our visit was let down by a 10 minute wait on bbq sauce which led me to finish my meal which was a lovely chicken tikka masala before my girlfriend even received the BBQ sauce which was asked for, would come back but would ensure to tell the friendly staff everything before food came

Called in on Saturday 8 July for something to eat at 4-30 and was told it would be at least one hour even tho it was not full and not many eaten so we went elsewhere and so did others as staff did not seem to be bothered definitely worst wetherspoons around

not enough staff. below standard food and the woman in charge is so miserable there was loads of tramps in the beer garden with own food and drink and no one was moving them

Had a Stake dinner and a couple of pints, the stake done just right,and a ok pricethe staff were friendly and approachable , the overall look of the place was nice..

Went in for a meal to treat my wife however the meal was well below standard even for a pub and for the prices paid I would expect more...

I remember when this was still a college, before being a pub. Still some original features to be seen following redecorations. Good range of drinks with reasonable prices and quiet enough mid-afternoon to be able to talk and drink in peace.

We enjoyed our last drink of the night in this quiet pub (10.45 p.m. on a Friday) The bar staff were friendly and knowledagble about the range of drinks as we wanted to chose whiskies from the selection on offer. We were pleased with the recommendations made!

This place was decorated not too long ago with new wallpaper, fixtures and fittings. The car park around the back is also public and they will refund your parking fee if you spend money in the bar. They have started to sell ales in the last year or so although a bit late to catch on. It started this under Cask Marque. I would suggest buying bottles though, as their lines have not always been clean in my experience, especially if you don't drink lager. The drinks here are incredibly cheap, so if you go at the right time it's OK just for one or two. The tables, floors and toilets are not very clean.The food portions are fairly large for the price, but the standards are not high. I once asked for poached eggs on my breakfast and was told they've got fried eggs in stock but not poached eggs. I asked no further questions as this statement was quite revealing about their food preparation and storage methods. It is not really a pleasant place to be at lunch times as the place tends to fill up with rowdy families with no control of their screaming children and no table manners. That isn't necessarily the fault of the business, but there are far more pleasant environments in which to eat nearby. The building was once a Merchant Navy college in many years gone by, which trained thousands of merchant seamen cadets for the British shipping industry when South Shields was at its peak. How might they see this place now I wonder.

This room is much better now it has had a bit of a facelift (desperately needed). Good choice of drinks, and a reasonable menu. Always doing some sort of offer, so look out for 'specials'.

The smell being omitted from their kitchen fans was enough to stop us ordering. Meal deals were average and unimaginative and the overall look and cleanliness turned us away.

Its not a totally dreadful review. The staff are friendly enough the drinks cheap enough, but oh heck what a dump. The toilets should have a health warning. I initially would have rated this lower, however its an ok place to have a quick drink and go somewhere (anywhere) else.

Visited on sunday around lunchtime. Must say the food was mostly microwaved and disappointing.Me and my son shared 5 small dishes. Topped nachos awful, dried jalepenos and fatty bacon. Meatballs were like tinned meatballs. Burger was average, wife didn't particularly enjoy her lasagne. Low prices for a reason. Below par pub food. No wonder the place was dead. The Mile just around the corner is much better.

Called in here for 1st time last weekend and we were disappointed - the food is basic pub food and not particularly appetising. One plus point was that the pub was clean as were the toilets.

Called in after a meal along the road and ordered an Amstel. The pint came as ordered but had that soapy taste that you get when they haven't cleaned the lines.

It looks good inside and out, easy to get to. The food is cheap but good, service is good. The pool table has enough room around it to play.

Thought we'd try the place as never been before and liked the style of the place. We ordered the chilli and scampy. Unfortunately it came with no tartar sauce or sour cream as advertised. The scampy was ok, nothing special. Referring back to some saying the food is like frozen food, yes I would agree. You would get the same quality from a supermarket. The chilli was like the scampy, nothing special but was surprised with the portion, it was child's size almost. I don't have any problem with the service but really think they need to look over their menu and pay more attention to detail. Sorry to say, we won't be back or recommend to anyone unless they revamp the menu and up the quality.

We called here for drinks on our way into Newcastle and really liked it. The staff were all friendly and helpful. The cocktails were on buy one get one free so were great value and the menu had lots of offers on so food was well priced as well.

We visited Kirkpatricks for a late lunch and enjoyed the special burger offer. Burgers were good quality and good portion sizes. The staff were friendly and helpful and the service was great throughout our visit. We would not hesitate in visiting this establishment again in the future..

We went in here mainly so I could have a cocktail, but also to grab some food and kill some time while it was raining.Cocktails were buy one get one free, so that's always a good thing, and the Cheeky V was very good - the Mojito was not so great (and I usually love a mojito).Kids menu is great - good selection of food, great value and the food itself was very good.For the adults we decided on a 3 item pick & mix plate. When I got downstairs to the bar to order, after deliberating for a while on what to have, they only had 1 of the 3 things we'd chosen!! Eventually I decided on 2 of the other things that they did have, and, like with the kids' food, everything tasted very good, was just disappointing that we couldn't have what we actually wanted.

Regular visitor for both food and drinks, always great deals on for cocktails and food. Cant find better value anywhere else really!

Often call in here if I'm in shields, and last Saturday I popped in with my family. Sat outside in the sunshine with the other half, two kids and two dogs.Considering how busy it was the staff were friendly, accomodating, and the service was quick.The food as always was spot on, and the amount served for the low price represents excellent value for money. Many of the surrounding establishments could learn a thing or two from this venue.

Regularly visit Kirkpatricks for both food and drinks, with friends and also with the kids. The food has always been great, with large portions and a variety to choose from at a very reasonable price. The staff are friendly, welcoming and very accommodating, especially with little ones! I would highly recommend it!

Food was acceptable, burger I ordered was chard and bacon on it cold and hard. Service was fast enough, and as far as kids go there is a ramp for pushchair and changing room that clean enough.

I popped in at a lunch time midweek with my wife. When I used the bathroom there were two men snorting cocaine off the sink. Not in a cubicle to hide it, just right infront of me. We left our drinks and won't be back.

Popped in for a meal with my friend and her little girl and my son..before we had gone in we was shopping so we bought some chicken nuggets for our baby's, when we arrived at the pub the chicken nuggets were on top of the pram me and my friend had ordered our meals and the children's meals. Meals arrived and we got told of cos we had brought food in from outside the children never ate any of them inside and he could obviously see we had orders both kids a meal he was extremely rude.Ordered chicken bacon melt for adults food was cold my friends had a hair in it when I told the waitress she took it away and we heard chef asking what colour hair my friend had saying she had put it in there.We ordered chicken peas and chips for our babys and my 11 month old son got given gone of chicken breastfeeding the smell was horrendous and it was yellow as anything. I took it back to counter were all bar staff were standing swearing and everything else. The smug waitress with the long black hair said she asked if I wanted another one brought down I refused and walked out we left all of our meals! Food needs to be shut off pub needs completely new staff with an idea what customer service is !

Called in for lunch with the wife, the smoked salmon fish cakes sounded nice so we both ordered them. They looked more like tennis balls with a hard shell. The flavour was only of potato, not a scrap of fish to be found! We complained when the waiter came at he end, but I might have well spoken to the wall for all it did. I told him we were very disappointed and would not return. He shrugged his shoulders and walked off.

Went to Kirkpatricks tonight with friends... As a regular in shields I know how miserable the bounces can be! However the bouncer on tonight in kirkpatricks was outstanding.... Happy, held open doors, made sure everyone was ok and very professional! Thank you kirkpatricks!!!!

Quite a good selection of typical pub grub at really good prices!!! 2 meals for a few quid cant be sniffed and BOGOF deal on deserts (and cocktails) is very good! It does get busy but that can be a bad thing! It is a pub so you sort of do expect to have drunk people there from time to time... Friendly service and a large selection of drinks/food. Definitely worth a visit!!

Prior to taking the ferry across the Tyne to North Shields my wife, nephew and I called here for a bit of lunch. Whilst not a Wetherspoons it is part of another chain of pubs so meals are affordable to all. Whilst my nephew claimed the "fish and chips" weren't as good as those at other establishments, my wife and I both thought our choices were spot on and really good value for money. My wife had the "chicken tikka masala" which came with rice, nana bread and poppadom, whilst I opted for the "steak and ale pie (large for an extra £ 1.50)" which came with chips, peas and gravy. They do a special offer price of two meals for £ 6.99 so with drinks the total bill came to well under £ 20.00.My wife and I both thought this to be great value for what you get.

I popped in for something to eat , and decided to go upstairs because the resident winos , including families with screaming kids occupied the downstairs area. The menu is traditional pub fayre as one would expect. Ordering wasn't a problem, decided to try the gammon. Big mistake. Felt sorry for the poor lad who brought the food, obviously a student earning a bit extra, because it was the worsed of everything you would expect from the freezer, pre frozen chips, peas, and a piece of gammon I assumed had been used to repair a hole in some shoes. I won't be returning soon.

This pub did two meals for £6.99 I chose a vegetarian quiche/pie and hubby had the fish and chips. Hubby also ordered a portion of bread. My meal was very tasty and enough food for me. Hubby said his fish was tasteless plus he only got 1 butter for his 2 slices of bread. The meal filled a hole and it was very cheap so I can't complain about that. Food was well presented and the table/cutlery were nice and clean. Would I go back yes I would but hubby said he would order something else

A afternoon in South Shields after a walk a round the town centre we decided to have a meal in Kirkpatricks the meals were excellent piping hot and plentiful friendly staff , very good

It was out first visit here and was a enjoyable experience, the food was delicious & hot, the double ups on the food are well worth it & the pies are awesome, well worth a visit for lunch.

It's a good meal deal, with 2 meals for £6.99. Good quality food for the price, very happy to go back. Quick service and friend enough staff.

Went today with my family 2 babies and the service was disgusting asked for baby food to be heated to get a reply from a girl holding a hot water bottle to her ear (very professional ) we can't no hot water and carried on talking to her friends (other staff) dun how she managed to fill her hot water bottle with no hot water food was terrible like it had been reheated a million times not 1 member of staff asked if meals were okay should be shut off from food need to sort attitude of staff not welcoming at all if babies hadn't of already taken coats off and been in highchairs I would of left will NEVER RETURN

Called after a visit to the market had lunch time special two meals for 6 99 fish and chips and scampi tasty hot and well served The staff are friendly and welcoming Bar nice and clean Toilets immaculate Glass of wine and a pint refreshing and good value Altogether a no frills service in a lovely old pub which is warm and welcoming Well done to the staff get that coffee machine fixed cos the latte is one of the best tasted and machine was broken

It's been a few years since I visited Kirkpatricks, so decided to give it ago this weekend. We decided to eat from the 2 for £6.99 menu. The food was quite tasty and served quickly. Only marked off 1 mark because it wasn't very warm. Otherwise a reasonable meal out.

When in on a Sunday as just arrived in the area beer is good no food available which wasn't a problem menu looked good but a Sunday it was quite but a nice place

I have be coming here for many years, when it had it's refit last year, I asked when it will be opened, I received a lovely message from the General Manager, inviting me for a meal. The customer service always has been great. Kirkpatrick's has been open a long time, it has survived the decline in pubs. It is one of the best pubs in Shields, that's mainly due to the good management,the it's always busy .They must be doing something right .

Went here with my family as we were visiting South Shields, customer service from the start was very negative. Blonde haired girl behind the bar did not have a clue, we asked how long the food would take and her response was I don't know. The carling was flat and so was the cider. Asked for chips instead of rice with the tikka and told it would cost £1.50 to swap ( what a joke ). When meals came chips looked like they had been re fried a dozen times. No one checked back to see if all was ok. I would definitely not recommend anyone eating here. Shame as it is the only place in South Shields town centre that does decent deals. Chefs need to be trained how to cook and bar staff need training in how to be happy instead of miserable.

This is really a drinkers pub that serves food so you are likely to be eating between groups of beer drinkers. Thank god they aren't allowed to smoke inside these days. Lots of cheap dishes which include a drink. My friend's steak and ale pie was OK but small. My 6oz burger tasted more of onions and salt than beef. Even at their prices I don't think this is good value so can't rate it as high as average.

Food here is average pub grub, cheap and cheerful. Small portions but tastes fine, you get what you pay for. Fine for a quick bite and a pint.

Popped in here. Never again. It was an early lunch for us. To our astonishment there was a group of drunk men, not kids either, kept going to the toilets together and then sniffing a lot when they came out. This was just lunch time mid-week. The food was poor but it wouldn't have mattered after that. Avoid this place.

Came in with the family to have some pub grub. Ordered drinks and found the only table that would sit 5 people was full of glasses and used plates. This wasn't a problem as I thought one of the staff would be around soon to clean the table. After about 5 mins, one of the staff removed the plates from the table but never returned to clear the glasses. We waited another 10 minutes and still had a table full of dirty glasses. I suggested we move downstairs and there was a free table, again full of dirty plates and glasses, again assuming we we sitting in view of the bar, I thought this would get cleared up quite quick. How wrong I was, the plates were cleared after about 10 mins, and several looks at the bar staff, but the dirty glass and table were never cleaned, I could of went to the bar and asked for the table to be cleaned, but why should I, this is a pub that serves food so the cleanliness should be attended to without having to ask. We ended up leaving still with the table not having been cleaned. If the staff can't clean mess up that is in front of their eyes, I hate to think what the kitchen is like as we (the public) can't seen it. Very disappointed with our visit, but ended up going somewhere where all the tables were clean and staff were very attentive

my partner and I had 1st date here 23years ago and called this weekend. not much has changed cheap drinks. service is good bar staff very friendly. cleanliness of toilets not fantastic . it is what it is. cheap n cheerful.

Recently had a quick bite to eat before a night out with Friends. We all had bacon cheeseburgers which where tasty and the service was friendly and prompt.My only concern was that there was a guy outside on our leaving who was very intoxicated whom was very aggressive in nature with a young female friend of mine when she had gone for a cigarette. She was very startled and so we decided to move on elsewhere.

I had went to Kirkpatrick's for a mixed grill I was very happy with it and the service most of the time I go to the mile all so very good and good service before the mile I went to the would have all so very good nice surroundings good service but last time I reviewed the wouldhave I had said I was not happy with a meal I had got there at the time but that was only the once out of many time's I had been there to be eat and then there is the ship and royal I have only been in there once to eat I got a lovely Sunday dinner and I spoilt it by putting tartar sauce on my own fault of course hope this review is of help to you and other's

Whilst on holiday in Newcastle we had the opportunity to visit South Shields. So we had that chance to drop in and have a pint from the guest ales, although late morning the custom was building. Enjoyed the selection of ales and ciders available

We visited this place at 5.30 pm to have a meal and a drink. The place was busy and is very much a Wetherspoon type of place. We ordered our drinks two pints and two cokes for the kids, even saying to the bar staff that the kids would like a slice of lemon in their drinks. We pick up some mr yes and went outside to sit in the sunshine and sad,ect our meals. As we were just sitting down another member of the bar staff came up to us and said," you can't stay here no kids allowed after 5.00pm so you'll have to leave. I stated that we had just bought our drinks and told the bar person that we had kids and nothing was said the. He just said e don't allow kids after 5.00pm do you not stay. I wad most put out and stated that I would like a refund on our drinks to which he said justgo to the bar and you will get one. I found the bar man was very rude and stated we should have been told before we paid for the drinks about their ruling on children. We left after our refund was given and found somewhere else to eat. I later checked their website which states that children are welcome anytime up to 9.00pm. I find that the barmans attitude was terrible and condescending and I will never visit this establishment again.
