£11 pounds for a regular fish and chips curry sauce i thought was going to be in the same size box but it came in a kids size box and was not worth the price i payed

Chips were slightly undercooked, under seasoned (no black pepper at all in a fish and chip shop... Come on...). Overall, no flavour. Not the worst but honestly pretty bad and I feel mugged. Not tried the fish but if you can't even get chips right what can you do right.

Been a meanwood girl I normally use the meanwood branch but when at work I use Horsforth what a difference Horsforth one are really tight on the chips get a handful that’s about it really disappointing the batter on my fish fell off leaving one side of of thd fish not battered

What's with all the bad reviews here? i've been here a few times, Zero complaints so far. Not the best fish and chips in the world but it's good for what you pay for.

Very poor, fish ok chips not cooked we had to bin and the curry sauce like water!!!! This place was so good once but we won’t be back at those prices

Been using kirbys for 40 + years, we had fish and chips last night ... the worst i've ever tasted.. used to be a great authentic chippy .... no longer the case....so sad ... will have to travel further afield i'm afraid. Must have new owners … tried Kirby’s again recently and what a big improvement … British Fish & Chips at their best. Yummy :)

Appalling, utterly appalling. Went through the till and ordered a fish. 12 minutes later a group of lads entered and ordered. One of the orders was a fish. The 'Cook' then put two fish in the fryer. When asked when I would get what I had paid for I was in formed that the fish had just gone in. It isn't ess ache one tee service - it is no service at all. I left without even asking for my money back. Won't get fooled again.

Good fish and chips with mushy peas and scraps. Large portions so able to shate chips to keep costs down a bit. Only reason not given 5 stars...they have lunchtime special but can't buy them at tea time. No senior citizens reductions either.

I’ve been going to Kirbys since I was a child. Great fish and chips. Recently I ordered through Uber as I was busy at work. Never again! After talking to the owner of Kirby’s everyone should know how much Uber take as a commission… it’s so greedy. So do Kirby’s a favour… shop in store ….🐟

I’ve been going here since the 1960’s and tonight’s meal was the worst ever. Over cooked fish, and not even enough chips to cover the bottom of the tray. Gradually been getting worse since it was taken over. Not worth the money.

I went there recently. If you're in meanwood you have to try this. I ordered a large fish and chips with some vinegar on it. absolutely incredible.

After Bretts and Catch/Fisherman's Wife/Bryan's closed, I asked friends for recommendations for an alternative fish and chip shop and Kirbys name came up several times. I was a bit wary, having seen some lukewarm reviews on Tripadvisor, but my friends were right. The haddock was beautifully cooked with a lovely light, crispy (but not too crispy) batter and the chips were fluffy on the inside and crisp on the outside. The staff were also really friendly and the shop was clean and well designed. Will definitely be back!

Portion size 7/10 Food quality 10/10 Another half scoop of chips would be perfect. However, can’t fault the taste. Great fish, great batter, decent chips. Chinese curry is 👌

Order from here on a Thursday night ordered Large chips. Fish and a jumbo sausage. With scraps. Was very disappointed with the portion size as that wasn’t a large portion of chips but rather a portion of fish and chips which was not asked and when the person read it back they repeated what I said. I ordered a large chips as this usually is enough for me and my girlfriend. Especially when I paid nearly £15!! Even if it was large fish and chips, that wouldn’t have been enough chips for a large. What we had was nice, but disappointed at the portion size. Scraps also weren’t in the bag too.

I know everyone is feeling the financial pinch, but the portion sizes here just aren't value for money. Standard portion of fish n chips way too small to satisfy a grown mans appetite.

Over cooked and dry fish plus full of bones, at these prices they should be premium quality but sadly are not.

I have reviewed Kirby’s before absolutely praising them, but on collecting from there last week for myself and partner, my review this time goes the other way. The size of the fish and a few scraps of chips (18/20) in both portions to add to the £8:50 price each portion I am totally livid. The staff were turning customers away saying at 6:30 pm they had run out of chips, but I had ordered and paid got my order, got home, and felt totally let down from many many visits over the years. I rang them when I got home, and the promise of a call back from the manager the next day was never forthcoming, also calling again leaving a voice message on Monday. Sadly because of this, poor portion and the non call back, there are plenty of other great fish and chip shops to use.

We use Kirby’s regularly. Fish always cooked to order - very tasty and meaty too - chips as well! Friendly and obliging staff - what more to ask. Probably best chippy in North Leeds since being under “newish” management. Kirbys have seen off most competition. Will continue coming back for more.

Out of two visits it’s been terrible both times. First visit, food was shocking. The fish cake had clearly been sat there for a while because it was dry and hard. I don’t live far so retuned for a refund This time it was the Service, too manny people serving one person and no one knows what the other has been told. So the order is not correct - ripped off. Too annoyed to return it. And the lady that fry’s couldn’t be more miserable and unwelcoming if she tried.

I bought a chip bitty, the chips were cooked to perfection. My friend bought a fishcake butty, the fishcake was homemade, full of flavour. Staff were friendly and attentive

If you want a proper fish and chips, this is the place to go. Clean shop, really friendly staff and lovely white fish with a huge portion of chips. I’ll be making this my Friday regular from now on.

Amazing food from an amazing business and great friendly staff. We passed through on our way back to Harrogate and decided to try the food. We were feeding 2 Adults and 4 Children. The food was tasty & hot and portion size was spot on. We are family who love our fish and chips and we have a new number one place. You wont find anywhere else better!!

Every time I’m come, I never get full order, so you ring up and there like… we’ll give you it next time (who remembers) always no scraps might not seem much but if your having fish n chips your having a fat day so you WANT them . Not like it was back in day

The product is still good but value is poor. Dearest in the area .the prices have increase 3 times in last 10onths.£1-45 cheaper for fish and chips at drakes nearby and just as good.their even cheaper in headingley and Otley road. I've been spending a great of £17 per week here but not any more. Disgusted with prices.

Review Amended: despite poor service/ disappointing chips. I have had a quick response from management hopefully this matter will get resolved. Which shows Kirbys do value their loyal customers. This has significantly improved my overall satisfaction.

Lovely fish & chips. I go once a week and they are always consistently nice. I will say that the portion of chips you get is always consistently small though. You do get a larger portion at most other chippies but overall the quality keeps me coming back for more!

Small fish, odd tasting batter but the chips were OK. Guess they started using veg oil.

Local and the good prices. The fish is cooked on demand so is hot fresh and well cooked. The chips also always taste very good . To conclude it's the ideal local, traditional fish and chips shop.

We tried them last week, thought they were cooked to perfection. They were so good we went back on Saturday for more!! The second visit was as good as the first. Very Poor and NOT fresh chips If you like fresh chips cooked from fresh potatoes then this is NOT the place to go The chips are bought in large plastic bags and refried. This gives a soggy grey chip. Come on Kirbys get a potato peeler and chipper. Use fresh Yorkshire spuds and customers will start leaving great comments and spending hard earned cash

Nice fish and chips think the staff are rude and not very welcoming. And they concentrate on online orders more than customers in the shop.staff playing with there hair before serving.should have hair nets on.

Having purchased Fish and Chips then returned home.. The chips were dark and greasy. I knew they'd been double fried. I rang the shop and told them and the fella confirmed they had been re fried. At nearly £7 for fish n chips you don't expect this Rubbish. They were Distgusting and were thrown in the bin. This used to be a good local fish shop but since it was taken over a several years ago its not as good. I mean who refries their chips?? Sometimes the fish tastes wierd too I'm not sure if they're trying to cut corners by giving a cheaper alternative but I definitely won't be going back in a hurry... Get your act together it's not all about making money. Look after your paying customers!!!

Been using this fish shop for years. It was great before it was taken over a couple of years ago. Bought fish and chips to take home and the chips were greasy and dry. They had been re-cooked. I rang to tell them that they were rubbish and said they'd been double cooked. I was told to my astonishment "that's what we do". A lady came in and asked for 2 battered sausages, as they only had 1 the fella took the 2 cooked u battered ones dropped them in batter and re cooked them! Clearly common practice a double helping of grease! Unfortunately the woman did not see what he was doing. As much as I hate waste I like my food edible especially when your paying over £6 plus for them.. Not good practice. Don't cook so many chips and when they're no good throw them away.. We are PAYING CUSTOMERS !!!

Won't be rushing back to this place. Its gone DOWNHILL! Chips double cooked, they were greasy and disgusting. I was told when I rang to complain "it's what we do". They also added batter to 2 cooked sausages and put them in the fryer but the customer that ordered them didn't see what he did. Its not right if you don't cook too many chips and you've had them too long then throw them away simple as!!! We are PAYING CUSTOMERS

Editted because the GF option has sadly been withdrawn. Hope they bring it back. “I have been eating here recently because of the great gluten free offer - they seem to have really nailed the secret of GF batter. I am coeliac but I haven’t had any issues with the food here on several occasions. Staff have been very understanding.”

Visited the fish shop for the first time. Did not see the people in the fish shop. Woman yelled at me from behind counter that only 4 people allowed. Fish and chips of excellent quality but will not support again due to the fish wife behind the counter.

Superb fish and chips from the best chippy in Leeds.

Very oily chips, fish cooked to perfection but the grease off the chips gives me the dry heaves a bit from this place. They serve it in those white paper containers and at the end there's literally a brown pool of grease in there. I only go here if I'm really hungry and want the grease.

If you could legally say that the Fish & Chips from Kirby's were The Best, then I WOULD Definitely say that they Are the best you will ever get! Beautifully cooked well done white Haddock in crispy batter with NO white sticky stuff that's on all other Fish batter, and chips like I've never seen before thick n chunky and some skin on, absolutely gorgeous! Gave up on Kirbys when they changed owners as the fish and chips went from first class to awful. Our usual fish and chip shop was closed yesterday so decided to give K another try. What a difference! The girl serving was polite and cheerful and the food was possibly even better than the 'old' Kirbys. Wonderful.
