We went here for the first time on a Saturday afternoon. Lucky to have some sun to sit out in and enjoyed watching the barges going by. Football on the TV outside. Brilliant atmosphere, friendly staff and great food. Definitely will take a drive out again to this little gem again.

Amazing place to spend your time, simply beautiful after the refurbishment. Great for watching the football and current sports events with plenty of tv screens literally everywhere, inside and out. I have visit the King's Ransom every week with a group of friends. We have canoe every week from their car park for years before going in for beer, and sometimes we stop for meals. The staff are friendly. The pub meets our needs perfectly in the twenty years plus that we have been going. New comment July 2024 Perfect t place for a summer meal and drink outside. Interesting waterside venue.

Popped in for a drink after getting off the tram. Lovely pub, recently renovated. Bingo music quiz was on and it was great fun to join in.

Never been here before but will be back. Loved everything about it... Great location right on the canal, you can sit and enjoy a drink by the waterside. The outside area is extensive with lots of little nooks and crannies. They also have a few outdoor TV screens. The interior was lovely, I fell in love with some of the amazing art work, loads of it Manchester based, really cool. It was a quiz night when we visited so it was a really busy night and it had a great atmosphere. Will deffo be back on our next visit to Sale

Told by staff that a kids breakfast can only be purchased if we had a child with us, not considering that a pensioner wouldn’t eat a full breakfast. Food finally arrived after a 40 minute wait and was cold and chewy. Will definitely not be returning.

I have just been in the Ransom for the first time since it was refurbished and it looks great. The bar area is well designed and they have kept plenty of space around it, so it should make service pretty easy. Still plenty of seating available with screens making it easy to watch the sport, from pretty much anywhere. The pub has improved so much over the last few years and it is a very decent place, these days. A big shout out to Tracy, the landlady and Chris, the area manager, for turning it around.

Very welcoming, manager is very welcoming and would go out their way to assist. 10/10 recommend a visit.

Re-opened, refurbished and looking much smarter. Pontoon, which floats on the adjacent canal, is now back in service - a definite bonus when the weather is fine. Good range of beers and spirits that can be ordered from your table and which arrive promptly. I have never eaten here, so can't comment on the food.

28/07/2016 Avoid this pub. Staff rude and untrained. No customer service skills. Booked room but were made to feel unwanted and were rushed to leave early into event. Foolishly left my wedding cake with this outfit night before only to find on arriva7l two strangers sat in booked area and our cake sweating and on display probably since opening time. No decorations that where ours bought and paid for on display. Asked for a song request not aloud how surprising, even all that you would think was enough bizzarly a so called manager as went as far to ask my father who so kindly paid for buffet for outstanding money !!!!@@@ when an actual fact it was their mistake they said there was an OFFER on prosecco wine then to find on night ie 3 weeks later it wasn't the list is endless ............BEWARE.......

King's Ransom says it all about the pub ! Great location clearly this is how they justify the prices. £2-29 for the drink £2-49 for the privilege of sitting by the canal ! Think I'll be sticking to Wetherspoons at least they display the price before you order !.....🤨

Lovely location with out side space with heaters, there seems to be something going on such as sports fixtures. Dj or live music

Grans wedding after party held here. Free parking for 4 hours, just register at the end of the bar.

Our first visit to this pub at the weekend 8/6/24. Definitely won't be our last. Outside area is lovely, lots of space. Ordered the small plates which were great value and beautifully cooked! Drinks prices very competitive in comparison with the Northern Quater etc . We moved inside when it got chillier, and inside the decor was so fresh, tastefully decorated. An amazing female duo were singing, lots of people dancing! Biggest positive from us all though goes to the staff, polite, attentive and always checking customers were okay. We felt completely safe here due to the level of management staff and security always being visible. Would definitely recommend and will be visiting again. Good luck to the new landlady and all the team!

This pub has an amazing location and looks really great with the refurb but there is something a bit off with it. The staff individually seem lovely and helpful when you speak to them, but it feels a bit disorganised somehow like you are waiting for attention even when it's really not busy. The food is okay if you stick to basics but the Sunday roast felt 'bought in' and the cauliflower cheese was mush. It's perhaps restrictions of the brewery, what the kitchen is free to do 🤷🏻 but there is too much competition for really good food in Sale, you end up walking past unfortunately. If they really sorted the food out I would be in there a lot more. Maybe they rely on the drinkers because it really is a perfect spot by the canal 🤩

It’s about time I wrote you guys a review! Everytime I visit The Ransom the staff are so welcoming and absolutely love my little boy who each and everyone one of them have all looked after him during our visit and had a little cuddle or just wanted to even help me with him to the car.. it’s not always about the actual service and food but how they make you feel like a friend and sometimes family! They help even if that’s carrying his bag or him in the car seat himself when they see me struggling. The boss Tracy is such a star, she will go above and beyond and the staff are very helpful and they are all such a lovely, happy bunch. The food is always amazing, the kitchen staff should be proud of themselves, especially in the heat and they still never have a wait on food! The food is delicious and bar staff are always helpful. The runners never stop and everyone does a brilliant job, everyday! 110% the best pub 🤍🫶🏽

Best pub in Sale by far. Staff are always brilliant and really accommodating no matter the occasion. After the refit it looks stunning inside and out. Were regular visitors at least once a week on a Sunday for a family feed the food is never a let down. Definitely recommended to one and all.

We had a disappointing visit to the King's Ransom yesterday Firstly I was charged over £10 for three soft drinks which thinking back seems expensive? Secondly after deciding on what we would like to eat, I had to return to my party twice because the food we wanted wasn't available. After a good wait one sandwich arrived with two sides of cold fries. Around 5 minutes later the three remaining sandwiches and wraps arrived with the another 2 sides of cold fries. All sides of fries returned to the kitchen to re heat. Surely a basic order of sandwiches/wraps and fries should arrive at the table together? Two of the fries weren't what we ordered also. However three of the sandwiches/wraps were nice. Then we decided to order 2 puddings but after waiting over half an hour we asked for a refund All staff apart from one girl were disengaged and unfriendly. No senior staff or management were visible. We had to clear our plates away as left sat on the table for ages. We left feeling very disappointed. You have done a lovely job doing up this pub but the staff and food do not match this.

My experience at King’s Ransom yesterday was disappointingly underwhelming. I ordered the multigrain salad, but 15 minutes later, I was informed they had run out of grains and offered to substitute with chips, which I accepted. However, what I received resembled items from their 'to discard' pile - wilted rocket, wrinkly peppers, and clearly spoiled avocado. When I mentioned this to the waiter, he explained that they were using up the last of their avocado before changing the menu, but they should have offered a fresher alternative. Additionally, when I requested dressing, I was informed that the sweet chili sauce was the dressing, which was unexpected. Although they eventually brought out fresh rocket, it was puzzling why they didn't initially serve this originally. Overall, it was the worst dining experience I've had at a restaurant in terms of the food. Avoid if you want delicious food - there are plenty of other really good restaurants in Sale. Probably fine for just drinks. Location is decent, and the interior is ok too.

First visit since refurbishment. Was glad to all the little rooms had been retained and had the same friendly atmosphere. Food was excellent value and the gammon steak was the best my wife had ever had. Highly recommended.

They have done such a lovely job of renovating this pub and we love coming here, but I have to say the service at the bar every time we come is SO slow. So much so that I watched someone stand at the empty bar, wait for 10 minutes and then leave, and I myself have to wait for easily 10 minutes to be served, even when the bar is pretty empty. Such a shame as we love this pub but it can’t be only us that thinks it!

This pub is fantastic! The new decor is stunning, creating a welcoming atmosphere. I love the outdoor seating area, perfect for enjoying a drink in the fresh air along the canal. The staff are friendly and attentive. Plus, their beer selection is top-notch. Highly recommend!

We came in yesterday evening for a few drinks and for the entertainment which was ok. There was 7 of us in attendance in the pub last night and one of the party had austism and he was enjoying himself dancing with other people in the pub we having a good night but then obviously when 1 of the members of the party broke a glass and surprisingly it wasn't the party member with austism was clearly an accident and no harm was done apart from a clean up from bar staff. But then bar staff and landlady wasn't happy and they clearly started to push and push us out of the pub and vitimsied my friend for his autism blaming us for braking a new cutlery set and dancing on the furniture. firstly cutlery set was under the table when we arrived and we actually picked up it and put it on the table and why would we brake a cutlery box we are all adults and have no intention of braking stuff in a pub especially a cutley box anyway let's turn to have a person with austism will be feeling today after how he was treated in your pub I know awful he doesn't know how by having a good time caused all that bother and commotion was uncalled telling us to get out because we accidentally broke a glass this happens in pubs all the time but this wasn't about the glass if was about because he had austism and the embrassment that must of brought on the pub. I think this was a case of trying to keep the reputation of the pub the landlady sat there on the fruit machine drunk barking orders and making comments to her staff and bouncers instead of coming over and just saying look can you leave no we felt threatened by the bouncers trying to get us out but my friend with austism being surrounding by bouncers knowing he had austism they could of been more selected on how they did that this is what caused more of the lssues I spent 15 years djing in sale and never seen anything like that at all this all down to the reputation of the pub not the guests coming in

Took our money for drinks when we first arrived then kicked us out as someone in our party had autism Discriminating staff and manager didn’t want To let the reputation down in the pub there was 7 of us in total all adults out having a good time till we got booted out took our money as they have a 80k refurbishment to pay for Will never come here again. Avoid

I would like to thank the management team and staff , they accommodated me and my family and my dog really well, the staff kept checking to see was all ok , the food was really good we all had different meals I tried a bit of them all and was very happy , I would recommend to all to visit, atmosphere was good and again staff very pleasant and helpful

The food is average frozen food. Similar to spoons but a lot more expensive. I got told to to take my hat off, I asked why and the response was that if I don’t I will have the bouncer to deal with. Won’t be going back

Great pub and amazing manager/landlord helped us out fairly swiftly to find a seat. Looks amazing after the refurb. Food is pub food so only a two star but was served fairly quickly after ordering and staff were also fantastic. All in all a lovely atmosphere. Lots of different sections for different occasion. You can book a private room for a family dinner or sit downstairs in the main area for football or outside for canal views and sun! Great pub. Limited gluten free option!

We had our buffet wedding reception at The King's Ransom in Sale on Saturday 6th April 2024. Everything went great, the buffet food was excellent and good value and the newly refurbished room was lovely. Many thanks to Tracy and her staff for taking care of us so well!

The Kings Ransom - was looking forward to seeing the new décor, having been a customer for many years, but not impressed, this once friendly pub has become a dark and dingey den of misery under new management, a jumped up little man with the fashion sense of Morten Harket in Bernard Manning's body with a personality to match, having consumed a couple of pint's outside I returned my glasses to the bar, like any polite customer would do, and was waiting to be served, when I heard a loud uncouth voice shouting at me from across a crowded pub - "Take your cap off, No cap's in the bar" - I looked at him and did not reply to his unpolite manner and simply removed my cap, payed for my overpriced drinks and returned to sit outside - on leaving I thought I'd have a word with him about etiquette, but as he saw me approach, he made a quick retreat to the kitchen - On my way out I looked for signs indicating a dress code - none to be found - my brother visited the toilets only to find customers were allowed to bring their dogs in with them, I've no problem with pets in pubs, but is it appropriate to allow them in the bogs - seems a little bit of double standards going on in regards to what he thinks his fake artisan boozer is. Maybe he should invest in an MDF hat stand in keeping with the cheap Chinese fittings and fixture representing merry old England. Saturday afternoon and soundtrack blasting out from the new speakers seemed to be the worst of the nineties - Jimmy Nail's "Crocodile Shoe's", Tasmin Archer "Sleeping Satellite", Sinead O'Conner "The crying one", REM "Everybody Hurts", it's enough to make you want to chuck yourself into the canal - I went to drink outside as the weather was fairly nice for a change and to escape the multiple TV's screening football - oh but no, no sooner had we sat down in a quite corner than a large flat tv comes on at the back of our heads - no one was watching and it hadn't been requested, I watched as customers waited for food that seemed to be being served by Wint and Kidd, in a very creepy haphazard way and no sooner had they served it, they where asking if it was ok in unison before customers had chance to take a bite. You can improve the building as much as you want, if the atmosphere, staff and management is terrible, you have a problem. Thankfully there is no shortage of places to go to drink in the area, and be treated politely as a customer, I can wait for another change of management - guessing it won't be long.

The recent refurbishment in March 2024 is really good. The canalside views make both the indoor, and outdoor seating very attractive. The staff have always been helpful and friendly, particularly Lynne, who is clearly very proud of the new development. I like the Greene King pub menu. The seniors menu is extremely good value and good quality. I have used the Kings Ransom weekly since it was built in the 1990's. My kayaking group and a paddle boarding group meet weekly, then enjoy the food and drinks in the pub.

Great to have the kings ransom reopened and the refurb looks amazing! We had a warm welcome from Tracy and the rest of the team over the weekend, and look forward to our next visit soon!

lovely experience great service

Very nice environment with tables and seating arrangements right next to the canal. Food and menu are the normal 'Greene King' stuffs, but the venue is nice with both indoor and outdoor seatings. Great to spend a sunny afternoon here on a weekend with friends and family. The small plates are good, and we usually order five to enjoy the best price.

Missing this place during refurbishment, can't wait for it to re-open!!

We made an unplanned visit to The Kings Ransom last Saturday. The staff were so welcoming and the landlord is excellent he is so on the ball and knew everything that was going on. He was making sure people found seats and had what they needed. The atmosphere was cosy and although my little boy only had a bowl of chips the other food coming out looked lovely. We will Definitely be back soon.

Staff were friendly & welcoming. My friend had Bacon & Cheese beef burger with fries thoroughly enjoyed it. I had fish & chips with mushy peas. The fish was ok. Mushy peas were hard. We had wine & beer 🍺 The pub is old style, not a lot of people however it was Tuesday afternoon. Very roomy It's not for me really

Great pub situated in the centre of Sale and in a good location by the canal. Nice menu, lovely food and always a friendly service. A good pub to visit with friends and family, it feels safe with a nice mixed crowd.

Went in for a lovely late lunch and was greeted by a very welcoming Cassie, severed us drinks that was very nice and had a great conversation. She also gave me some great drink options and what from her experience was the best. Very appreciative for Cassie very very nice young lady

Busy night with football and other quiz on lots in.

I had the Sunday roast with beef and turkey - a fantastic pub dinner! Great amount of gravy too, which normally places cheap on. This with a pint of Coke was about £18, do book ahead xx

Thank god for the doorman and the staff here as we had our debit card stolen whilst at the bar. The doorman saw what was happening and ejected the thieves and we were able to cancel our cards, so no harm done but it could have been worse. All credit to the staff who were vigilant and on the ball. Nobody could pre empt these circumstances but that staff were excellent

Food wasn't really prepared to the standards expected for the price paid, but all in all very friendly service and lovely atmosphere all round.

Beautiful pub, great place for families andbget togethers.

Ordered Burgers & Chips with onion rings as well as scampi and chips. All the chips and onion rings can lukewarm and the burger was partially burnt. The bar was not busy so not sure why the kitchen can’t get a simple order like that right! Staff asked about food and got us a plate of hot chips, shame it hadn’t all arrive like that on the first place.

We came at end of November for early Christmas celebrations. Outside area was serving a Christmas Bap, and it was pretty darn good and very reasonable priced It's a great venue, with lovely outdoor space on the canal

Glasses not clean as usual...curse of lipstick, continentals probably don't wear lipstick as when we went to Belgium all the beer glasses matched the beer and not a lipstick smear in sight !! Why can't the Brits running pubs clean their glasses !!! Wine average taste, high price you'd be better off drinking in the Moorfield as £2.00 per glass of wine cheaper. Place looks tired and I think the only upside is the seating outside on a sunny day. Even the outside needs a clean up...overall very average pub. Update... Visited a couple of times this week, glasses were clean, service was quick, and considering it was a couple of weeks before Chtistmas it was quite quiet and the atmosphere was good. My wife and I will visit again certainly.
